Guest Reviews
- Jon (8/5): -
- Mary (10/5): - I loved how convenient it was to town & the breakfast.
- Gale (9/5): Loved staying at Ellery. Good breakfast, comfy beds and bedding, nice strong shower. - I love the way you can park outside your room like a motel but the quality of the bedding and bathroom amenities are like an upscale hotel. Also the breakfast offerings are excellent plus you can use the kitchen any time to prepare a snack or even heat up dinner. The plateware is real china, tho there's disposables if you need that. Very welcoming common room for the evenings and good email communications before hand. Fridge in the room and top quality coffee all day long. I wish the floors weren't hard wood and were carpeted but that's the only thing I can think of.
- Jan (10/5): - Comfortable, good location. We stayed for one night and it met both its purpose and our expectations.
- Matthew (9/5): -
- Shanna (8/5): Lovely place to stay while visiting Smith! - It could have been a little cleaner and there was no bedside table on one side of the bed which was inconvenient.
- Sandra (8/5): - Friendly staff and beautiful building AC unit is hard to use and noise from hallway very loud
- Lindsey (9/5): -
- Marise (10/5): Can't wait to come back! - Quality ingredients in the continental breakfast. Delicious coffee. Cookie at arrival. Super friendly guest services staff. Comfortable beds. There wasn't a working fan in the bathroom, but all the amenities were great.
- Donna (9/5): -
- Darcy (8/5): A wonderful, comfortable place to stay with may (included) breakfast options. - The location for a Northampton visit is perfect. The rooms and public spaces were clean and inviting. If you are a light sleeper, it may be best to stay on the second floor.
- Stephanie (6/5): -
- fiodhnao (10/5): Great experience - Great location. Staff easy friendly and super helpful. Decor tasteful like an inn, no stock photos. Nice touches through like lending umbrellas. Beds pillows lines towels in abundance and crispy clean. Breakfast continental self service sooo much better than most. Lots of condiments for oatmeal or cereals. Many breads, fresh fruit coffee cookies 24/7. I’ll come back.

- X3547OQelizabethc (10/5): Visit to Smith - The Ellery is the perfect place to stay while visiting Smith. It has been renovated in a lovely and clean style. The beds and pillows are comfortable, and it was wonderfully quiet. We slept well! Breakfast and coffee in the morning were lovely. There were many toppings for the oatmeal, delicious yogurt, and a variety of teas and coffee. It all tasted fresh and delicious, much better than your typical included breakfast. We will definitely hope to return!
- susan (9/5): Perfect clean & charming stay near Smith, with helpful self-serve treats. - Nicely updated, great location, the rooms were very clean and spacious. The free breakfast was very helpful, as were the serve yourself snacks and drinks. There should be more small hotels/inns like this. The upstairs hallways could have some carpet to cushion the noise of those walking to their rooms. Bathrooms are cute but not fancy.
- Dinara (6/5): Good but the value for money is not competitive compared to chain brands. - Breakfast was nice and the whole decor and feel is nice and cozy. Too much noise outside the room
- sarahsT6206WR (8/5): Great overnight getaway - The location was perfect for a trip to Northampton, a friendly atmosphere. The room was rather plain but it was clean and well maintained. We were pleasantly surprised with the options for breakfast thinking it would be just cereal but they even had gluten free bread and muffins available. We were on the first floor and could hear people moving about above us but didn’t impact sleep, being right by the parking lot you could hear people moving about outside but again not a huge disturbance. There was plenty of privacy. Great value for the money!
- 982dayanaram (10/5): Nicest stay - The hotel is lovely, the staff amazing and super helpful. A lovely stay all around, doesn’t hurt that they upgraded me to a king suite. I will be coming back
- deborahl114 (10/5): Awesome place to stay - Friendly folks, very nice room, great coffee and breakfast choices were very good.

- Connector04613456412 (10/5): Home Vibes - The Ellery is a great location for families who wish to be close the colleges, especially Smith and the town. We were supposed to stay for only one night, but the Northeastern had different plans for us. To beat the storm, we added a pre-day to our original reservation and for safe travels, we added an additional post-day to our reservation. The staff was welcoming and worked very hard to accommodate the guests who had to alter their plans because of the storm. The rooms were clean and the value for the stay was within reason.
Due to the storm, many nearby restaurants were closed, but the staff offered to make snacks available throughout the day, etc. We met Christina, Tunda, Ted and they were great host. Ted offered to give rides to folks who didn't have cars or felt uncomfortable driving their car in the heavy snow to get additional snacks items outside of what was available at the hotel. Tunda and Christina shared stories about the hotel and its origin. The staff maintained the fireplace as the coldness of the northeastern was unprecedented.
Board games were available, including a community puzzle, which a few us enjoyed working together to complete it. There was no tv in the main lobby, which was a plus for those who just wanted to sit near a beautiful fireplace to read or just chat. All rooms had TVs with roku and programmable heating.
In spite of the weather, we had a wonderful time at the Ellery and I would definitely recommend it as a home away from home.
- Andri (9/5): - Complementary breakfast, Communal room with games and a fire. Rooms are kind of small.
- judithlT1502EL (10/5): Snowy visit - I was an accidental guest, caught by the snowstorm that cancelled flights. The Ellery was wonderful! The room was delightful! The staff welcoming and generous! The other guests lovely as we collectively navigated the weather! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
- Cindy (9/5): Friendly and comfortable stay at The Ellery. - Friendly staff, comfortable room and bed. Tasty breakfast. Wish it was walking distance to town center.
- Helen J (7/5): -
- jessicahI332JM (10/5): Amazing road trip stop - I booked the Ellory for a one night stay on my road trip and I wish I could have stayed longer. After corporate boxes of previous stops, the colonial building and style was a welcome change while updated to feel neat and clean. I wanted to spend much more time than I had by the amazing fireplace in the common area and it was a great space to have the awesome breakfast. The staff was friendly and helpful

- Terri (9/5): Lovely hotel, affordable, with excellent options for breakfast - Great location near downtown Northampton. Easy to walk there, close to a park. Excellent parking. It’s a bit noisy because it’s cold, the doors are not well sealed so you can hear people in the hallway pretty easily as well as some noise in the rooms next-door, we also had a room right on the street so it was a bit noisy at night
- Mary Ann (9/5): Highly recommend - Clean, slept very well. Bed very comfy breakfast was easy and good 0
- Jack (9/5): -
- Antonio (10/5): -
- Robert (10/5): -
- Maryann (9/5): Nice and cozy stay in Northampton - The room is spacious and had all the amenities. Breakfast was very good. The sitting area with a fireplace is very cozy and welcoming. There is no overhead light in the room and the light was on the dim side. There is no elevator and not suitable for anyone who has trouble with stairs.
- John (9/5): -
- Julie (8/5): -
- Halima (7/5): Quaint hotel in a safe neighborhood. - Location was excellent and the rooms were very spacious. Breakfast was very minimal with limited options. The rooms have very minimal light, it’s very dark in the rooms. Prices were very high because it was a busy weekend in the area. Probably would not have paid that much if there was a closer hotel that had availability.
- Megghan (10/5): - I was there for work and it was awesome. Bed was comfortable. Room was clean. Staff was friendly, and I got moved into the main building, apparently that was an upgrade, which is lovely! Either way, as a woman traveling alone, I believe the property was very safe.
- Sam (10/5): -
- Fearless525451 (10/5): Great place and close to downtown. - The staff person that checked us in was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also very good. We were able to walk to downtown and enjoy the New Year’s festivities and fireworks!!

- J9577FSks (10/5): A delightful, quiet week full of charm & warmth - I had a great stay in a queen suite at The Ellery. Room is tasteful, spacious, quiet, clean. Lovely linens and comfortable bed. The Ellery breakfast is beyond standard hotel. Fresh food, china plates, ceramic mugs and tasteful preparation. Simple, but healthy oatmeal or avo toast with all the trimmings. The common area is without par: no tv blaring, and space enough to relax alone or with friend reading, playing games, or puzzling. A full library of interesting books relating to surrounding history, etc..Staff is exceedingly friendly. A reasonable walk to Smith and downtown Northampton so I was able to visit with no car.
- Lister (9/5): as above - clan, centrally located. friendly. v gd breakfasts
- Paul (10/5): -
- Daniel (8/5): -
- vickimah0ney (10/5): Nice experience and would recommend - Very pleasant stay. Staff were nice. Room was clean and comfortable. Price for the room was reasonable. Close to the center of town.
- Passenger571524 (10/5): Wonderful stay and bringing our pooch was such a plus - We had a fabulous stay at the Ellery - along with our puppy - great location. Breakfast buffet was a plus. Highly recommend
- Shani (8/5): -
- Betsy (10/5): -
- mitrad666 (10/5): Definitely staying here again! - Y stay at the Ellery was a verypositive experience. My room was Clean, spacious and comfortable. The hotel staff were friendly and corteous. Very convenient to walk to the town of Northampton and visit my Smithi!
- JeffreyD1083 (10/5): Stay in the small, vibrant city of Northampton, Massachusetts. - Clean and spacious room and a free, healthy, self-serve breakfast that greatly exceeds any complimentary breakfast that I have had before. The hotel is across from beautiful Smith College and is only a 10 minute walk from downtown Northampton. The staff is friendly and attentive.
- 674nancys (10/5): An affordable gracious hotel. - The Ellery is a very comfortable place to stay in Northampton. It’s walking distance to the downtown area and to Smith College. The accommodations are comfortable and spacious. The breakfast is full of choices and the dining room is well maintained. The staff is very helpful and there’s plenty of parking. We look forward to returning.
- Timothy (10/5): Highly recommended -
- Chris (9/5): Really pleasant and clean. Great stay. - The complimentary breakfast was nice and the breakfast room was so clean and cozy with nice furniture and lighting. It felt upscale and very pleasant. Location is great. Very pleasant staff. Room was very clean and comfortable. Pet friendly and easy to get to pet relief areas. The climate control is one of those wall units which was loud coming on and off and the room got so so dry. Wished I had brought a travel humidifier. No microwave in the rooms (but there is access to one in the main lobby area.)
- Wolf (9/5): Great stay close to Smith - The contentental breakfast was the BEST one I have ever had at a hotel! The food is very good, and lots of GF and special diet options. Hot tea and coffee all day! The upstairs hallways smelled like mildew.
- Molly (9/5): -
- Akiniyi Caroline (7/5): -
- debbiebE765YM (10/5): Great retreat for R&R - My husband and I had a lovely stay at The ELLERY. Such a wonderful relaxed, peaceful atmosphere; ideal for the unwinding that we needed so much. Spotless room, convenient parking, inspired seasonal flavored water and cookies and a simple delicious breakfast.
- denisepZ1241YJ (10/5): My trip to visit family - In the past 12 days, I stayed there two different times. Both in two different rooms. And both rooms were extremely clean and very comfortable. They have a breakfast buffet that they always change up and don’t forget the coffee. It is great. They are a little less than a mile away from downtown Northampton And Smith College. I noticed that they do have locations for dogs, which is a very good thing. The staff is fabulous and always willing to help with any questions you may have. Go and please enjoy.
- Libby (9/5): - location, clean rooms, great breakfast furniture was uncomfortable and sterile, living room could have had more personality
- Linda (8/5): -
- Hetty (10/5): -
- susanlovesvermont (8/5): a really great get away - quaint spot w super comfy and very pretry beds, gracious hosts (even called to tell me they found something I left) and a good healthy breakfast in a nice dining area. Almost five stars except that the bathrooms were dated and there should always be a mirror in the room in addition to the bathroom. would totally stay again.
- Sean (10/5): Simple but surprising gem - convenient, clean, spacious and efficient lodging, with nice amenities. - Breakfast and location were excellent. Breakfast and common area were surprisingly nice. We expected some cereal and maybe toast, but they had avocado with diced red onions, boiled eggs, yogurt, another egg-cheese dish, as well as cranberry and tomato juice, teas, coffee, basic bagels/croissants/wheat and white bread, etc. It was all surprisingly nice, including diced fruits and other toppings for the oatmeal (also cereal, granola, etc). Basic drinks and some food (yogurt, string cheese, coffee/tea, chocolate chip cookies, chips, etc) were accessible 24/7, something not promised in the advertising. Common room was also a nice place to work if needed - very comfortable, cozy and clean, with all you need to work all day if needed.
King-size bed was comfortable and truly huge. Room was simple but spacious and clean, and hot water was swift and abundant (a problem sometimes even at expensive hotels). Staff were friendly and efficient. Room doors were not completely soundproof from the hallway, but the guests here seemed to be extremely considerate, so this was not an issue at all. Seating in the common area was a bit sparse at busiest time (8:30-9:15 am), so some had to sit and eat on couches rather than at the tables around the perimeter. No biggie.
- Linn (10/5): - Delightful little hotel! The bed was amazingly comfortable, and the breakfast bar each morning had great choices - egg bites, fresh oatmeal and avocado toast, amongst others. The hotel was just a mile walk to shops and restaurants in town. Would definitely stay again.
- Ann (10/5): - It looks like a no frills motel on the outside but the rooms are surprisingly nice -- almost B&B style -- and the buffet breakfast has fresh food as well as the more typical fare.
- Peter (10/5): - Great place and affordable - walking to NoHamptom and access to bike trail and UMass
- Laura (2/5): - We were in one of the downstairs outside entrance rooms, which was very reminiscent of an old motor inn. if you like being able to park right outside your door, that’s a big bonus however, the walls and the design of the hotel offered no sound protection, and we heard people going upstairs & up stairs neighbors constantly. The inn is old room was slightly updated, some mold in the bathroom, but overall pretty clean — upgraded bath products. If you are short or have mobility problems, the beds are higher than average, typical of old New England. They also have a wide sideboard so they’re not particularly easy to get in and out of. We have stayed at The Ellery before and the upstairs rooms were actually worse.
Most of the staff was very pleasant. I arrived early in the day because I drove all night to take a relative to the hospital. When I ask for a noon check in, I was told that would be an extra $50 because I booked through Expedia, but I only use Expedia because I booked the evening before. There is absolutely NO ONE the front desk from 8 PM to 8 AM, let alone somebody there to help with a reservation.
Stubborn, I refuse to pay $50 to check in 2 hours early when the room was sitting there empty, so my sick relative & I slept in the car in the parking lot. #classy. Having worked in hotels, early check-in are a pita, but they really don’t cost the hotel any extra and do a lot toward guest service. I was only there bc of the location. Marriott in Hadley is my preference.
- Heather (9/5): Excellent location, great room and staff. Beautifully decorated and maintained. - The location is great with loads of free parking and you can load your luggage from your car easily. Its about 20mins walk to the main street which is fine and it means your accommodation is quiet and peaceful. We did have one full day of cycling, so decided to Uber to the restaurant in town – it was very reasonable price and easy, the driver could just pull up at the parking lot off the street.
The walk to town is quiet, its around where college students live – mostly women, so it feels safe and we didn't experience any anti-social behaviour. In fact, we were surprised at how well behaved and staid it was for a Saturday night!
Our room was excellent, really big and having two armchairs with the side table was ideal for us as keen readers and often after a long day of sightseeing you just want to sit down, not use the bed.
Everything was spotless and the breakfast was very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful, making sure the area was tidy and clean throughout the morning rush. A minor thing, but the breakfast room gets quite busy so you have to sit on the sofas until a chair/table becomes available. The turnaround is usually quick but you become aware that others are waiting so don't tend to sit for longer than required.
- Amanda Jean (4/5): - The location was great and although we did not travel with a pet- the pet friendly option and fee was very fair!
Staff was also very friendly and accommodating and communication was easy. Unfortunately our stay was not comfortable.
Our shower did not have shampoo available, but rather two body washes and a conditioner. Additionally the room next to us was extremely loud and their whole conversation could be heard late into the evening. The noises started again in the hallway as it sounded like a loud party was taking place near our room.
Unfortunately, we will not be staying again.

- I3513NCkarenc (10/5): Family Wedding - It was a great experience. Rooms were veer nice and plenty of room. Definitely would recommend and would go back again for another stay.
- Wende (10/5): Beautiful room and public space, excellent breakfast, staff were very helpful and nice - Upon my check-in I was given an upgrade to C1 which was a huge room with a patio. What a nice surprise for my 5 day stay. The breakfast choices were outstanding. For the price I paid it was more than I expected. A beautiful room and the pubic living room. Even chocolate cookies at the reception desk to take when ones sweet tooth was acting up.
- VincenzaSF (10/5): Wonderful hotel with heavenly beds - Wonderful hotel in Northampton. Very clean and comfortable. Excellent beds and pillows. The breakfast buffet has many options, including avocado toast. Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Laurie (9/5): - Fabulous beds and pillows, very clean, great breakfast.
- Gayle (10/5): - Beautiful and quaint, clean, affordable, great breakfast buffet
- Jessica (10/5): - Second time staying here, friendly staff, very clean, nicely decorated, comfy beds with crisp white linens, very pretty main sitting area, nice breakfast item assortment, recommend staying on the second floor, wouldn’t recommend it for loud groups-the upstairs is like a library and the walls are thin!
- steve (10/5): - Cute little hotel, good rates
- BARBARA (10/5): - This was one of the pleasant overnight experiences we've had. The staff was professional and helpful, the Deluxe King room on the lower level was clean and comfortable and the breakfast-varied, ample and just lovely.
- Mobile12303748563 (10/5): The Ellery - friendly, comfortable hotel - When possible, I always stay at the Ellery. My daughter is a student at Smith, and the Ellery is a great spot to stay when visiting Northampton. The people are friendly, the rooms are large, clean and comfortable. The breakfast spread is varied and good.
- GuineaPigsRule1 (10/5): Very nice stay - Very nicely updated, lovely atmosphere and helpful staff. Location is right next to the Smith Campus and a short (10 min) walk to restaurants and amenities.
- Joanna (10/5): - Room was clean and comfortable. I was there for the horse show, so breakfast wasn't out when I was leaving.
- Cheryl (10/5): Stay at The Ellery - you won’t regret a minute of it - The accommodations were amazing; clean, spacious, comfortable . The friendliness of the staff particularly at the reception desk was memorable All was wonderful- nothing negative to say
- Eugene (9/5): -
- Robert (10/5): - Dining area and room was great. Way more than expected!!!??
- Andrew (10/5): - Great stay
- pamela (8/5): Thumbs up - Great coffee great water nice breakfast. Friendly staff. All around really nice
- Brian (10/5): - Great!
- Sarah (8/5): Overall a wonderful location - The staff was extremely professional and courteous. The amenities in the kitchen and dining area, in addition to nice cozy place to gather made it feel welcoming like home. Having AC/heat in the bedroom was fantastic. The mattress was excellent, sheets and pillows of a high quality.
My only complaint was that the sheets of the bed felt always just a bit damp. There is clearly some humidity in the rooms. Having a dehumidifier in the room would probably make a big difference.
- Michael (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay, convenient to a number of leisure activities. Clean and comfortable, would stay here again.
- Angelica (8/5): - Very convenient for our purposes. Easy to find. Comfortable bed. Our only negative-inadequate lighting in the room. Difficult to read in bed.
- Dale (10/5): - The Ellery is a comfortable lodging experience. For the most part the layout of the room assists with reducing noise but overhead rooms are a little noisy. The staff are very hospitable and accommodating which helped us when we needed to check in after 8PM. The television viewing options were very plentiful which is a plus over many other lodging places. The continental breakfast was very tasty with fresh breads, bagels, and baked items. By definition, the food and beverage offerings are what a real "continental breakfast" consists of. The distance from the main street made for less traffic noise which was very welcome. All in all this was a very pleasant stay and we may look forward to returning in the future.

- davidbG3950JC (10/5): Ellery Northampton, MA - Great stay for 2 nights. Lovely room - clean clean clean! Bed was perfectly comfortable. Professional staff. Excellent breakfast. Highly recommend! The town and area have much to offer visitors . The hotel is on Snith College campus and easy walk into town.
