Guest Reviews
- Dana (9/5): You have to do it!!! - Spectacular, on top of the world, great staff & lots to do & see. Pressure to book very expensive meals without clear understanding of various value options.
- Bryce (10/5): Excellent place to stay! - The location was fantastic. Staff were very nice. Be prepared that the food is expensive ($34 for breakfast buffet per person). Overall the experience is great and it’s fun to stay in a unique place. The bed was a little soft, and the toilets sounded like an F-16 on takeoff.
- Konstantinos (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptionally charming and well thought through, the level of architectural detail is mind blowing. The views breathtaking and I can keep on going for ever!
- Belko (7/5): Good -
- James (10/5): Fantastic Experience - This is a historic building with wrought iron everywhere, the timber is old. The details of the building and the fact that it's an all round ski lodge is amazing. The same thing I like is the same thing that's not great for a hotel. This is a very old timber building made in the early days. You can expect the room to be small and with only very basic amenities. You can hear everything going on. The hotel signs say quite time is from 11pm but the pool parties will last a lot longer; take ear plugs.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Views and local walks
- Krystal (8/5): We loved the property the mountain the atmosphere. - Nostalgia. Architecture. During our dinner, we clearly could see people that had went outside the walk path boundary.
Unfortunately, they did this directly outside of the dining room window. So this had to be our during dinner view. In pointing this out to our waitress, she did not take charge to do anything about it.
- Maureen (10/5): Totally enjoyable. - Beautiful location and historic building. The architectural details are wonderful. Our room was across from the elevator, so a bit noisy at times.
- Mick (8/5): Very good - Setting, of course, is phenomenal. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Check-in was easy. There was a lot of staff training going on. Unfortunately, this resulted in long waits for food service at all our meals and in less than quality situations that appeared overlooked (burnt toast, cold food, coffee, etc.) for expensive items.
- Brian (9/5): Superb -
- Rajesh (9/5): Breathtaking panorama of snow-capped peaks - Great view from room and snow all around.
- Gladis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ingo (9/5): great - room was simple and clean The long line at the front desk
- Julie (8/5): Very good - The overall atmosphere and look of the hotel was lovely and the location was spectacular. The bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable. Room was very small.
- Dawn (3/5): Disappointing - Up Mount Hood, surrounded by amazing scenery, historical building, wonderful back story. Room was tiny, considering the price, bed was weirdly soft yet hard to get in and out of!
- Youngmi (6/5): Pleasant - Just okay
- Karen (7/5): Awesome place, but service issues - The Lodge has a fantastically historic ambience. We have always loved going there whether it be for lunch while in the area, or for skiing and/or hiking. Our stay this time included a comfortable bed and good food. For this visit, sadly, I must knock off a few review stars, one for each reason below:
1. The service in the dining room was good, but that in the bar was not. Inattentiveness.
2. We had two separate charge issues. One was at dinner, when they charged us anyway for a dessert that was supposed to be complimentary. A minor issue that they fixed. But the room charge: We paid half up front at time of booking almost a year ago. My husband used a different card at check-in for a mandatory $3.00 check-in charge. Prior to check-out, they put the second half of our room charge pending on BOTH cards. Not cool. They tried to explain it away and one would be dismissed, but that is not the way it should have been done, and I'm glad we (not they) caught it. So word of warning: Double-check all your transactions at Timberline Lodge.
- Janice (9/5): Timberline Lodge is iconic - We love timberline lodge, been going the last 5 years at the same time for a birthday weekend Happens to fall on one of the busiest weekends so it’s very crowded/ can get loud. We were given a small queen room near the pool stairs and our other party was on a separate floor.. bathroom had a drippy faucet
- Tara (9/5): Superb -
- Frank (8/5): Great experience but bring lots of $$. - It is a real historic treasure. Food and Bev is very expensive. Two for the breakfast buffet was 80 dollars.
- Karynmarie (10/5): Too..small..;( - The lunch Room too small- bathroom wayyyy too small
- Bruns (4/5): Probably wouldn’t stay here again. Staff was wonderful. - The views are beautiful and the lodge was comfortable to lounge around at. The price is pretty high for the room we had and also all the food was so overly priced for what it tasted like. I had food floating in every glass of water I received while eating and my utensils were dirty too.
- Bruce (3/5): Micro sized room, with stuffy air, hot on the top bunk and freezing on the bottom bunk. - Good coffee in the morning, once they were able to supply the cups. Our booking promised a room with 4 bunk beds, so each of us could have a bottom bunk. However, we were given a tiny room with only one set of bunk beds. The room was extremely small and stuffy, so we had to open the window for air. The bottom bunk was cold, and the bedding was inadequate, leaving me shivering, while the top bunk was uncomfortably hot. At 3 AM, my son had to move his mattress to the floor due to the excessive heat, leaving little space to move. Overall, it was a terrible night’s sleep, especially for a price nearing $300 after taxes.
- Jeff (8/5): With nature’s stunning beauty all around us, this cozy lodge provided a great location for our two night vacation stay. - Views, location and service. Immediate access to hiking trails. Lack of AC. To be fair, we should have noticed that when we were booking the property I guess. It didn’t help that temps were so much more above average than normal during our stay.
- Dana (4/5): Disappointing -
- Laura (8/5): Very good -
- Gee (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (8/5): Very good - Great staff, beautiful location and scenery Uncomfortable beds. Restaurant was poor and would avoid at all costs
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Perry (8/5): Very good -
- Edoardo (9/5): Superb - great historic lodge, the heat swimming pool is amazing. the right wing of the hotel is close to the furnace and could be noisy sometimes
- Florian (6/5): Fab location and views, but service and comfort is underwhelming - Location and views Room was small and had a very unpleasant cold ventilation that can’t be changed. Restaurant staff has a stuffy attitude. Food is good but not that great.
- Josephine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janine (8/5): Very good -
- Louise-annette (9/5): I 💖 Timberline - The pool, the food, the bed, views, the dogs. High altitudes.
- Janet (8/5): Very good - The history Very hot in room
- Anna (10/5): Perfect stay with true shining vibe - Perfect location, amazing interiors. If you’re a fan of Shining - you’ll love this place -
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (10/5): We absolutely loved Timberline Lodge. A very special experience for us. - Breakfast. Limited menu.restaurant Manager was
rigid about not accommodating our request for a la carte items (eggs, bacon, potatoes) service was slow. I think we had an inexperienced server. She did one thing at a time, not scanning her section to see what is needed before returning to kitchen. They would benefit by table-side credit card processors. Restaurant service kind, but inefficient
- Dustin (9/5): Superb - Piece of history No ac
- Sheri (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stanley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charles (8/5): Breathtaking location, cramped room - Check-in went relatively smoothly. Meals in Cascade Dining Room were delicious. Staff was very polite and helpful. Room fan was damaged and rattled/didn't oscillate correctly. Cord was too short to place in front of window where cool night air could be drawn in. Room seemed especially cramped, even compared to previous stays at Timberline Lodge. Room could be more space-efficient, allowing for places to keep unused towels, etc. Loved early morning coffee in the Raven's Nest.
- Uk (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location, helpful staff especially in the dining room.
- Victor (9/5): A bucket-list experience that did not disappoint. - I’ve walked by the lodge about 50 times over the years on my way to the chairlift and every time I thought about how incredible it would be to stay there. It’s practically a museum where you can have a beer with the other guests you meet. Rooms are well-maintained, but lack a little in just being an old design.
- Sheryl (6/5): Pleasant - The food quality and variety was appalling.
- Duggan (10/5): Beautiful hotel and location but slightly let down by some staff and restaurants - History, facilities and location unrivalled Staff okay bur food choice just okay and poor value for money.
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marilyn (10/5): Exceptional - All the stay. Unfortunately booking through you we had no reservation. Fortunately they had a room available for us.
- Phillips (7/5): It’s a meaningful place to visit so each year I return. I wish there were more quality touches since it is a significant - Historic, interesting, beautiful setting , improved pool area. Upkeep isn’t outstanding. Repairs aren’t top notch. Few added touches. Lamp wobbly in room and didn’t function to turn off at no get above sink. Not restful. Communal bathrooms not highly scrubbed. Towels mediocre.
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb - Beautiful property, amazing location, very comfortable beds, beautiful pool & hot tub, definitely recommend
- Darren (9/5): Fun and successful - Staff and location Food very costly
- Mark (8/5): Great experience, loved the property but too expensive for what you get - love the vibe and style of this CCC hotel- fabulous public areas and cute almost cabin like rooms not really a complaint but sounds travel from room to room floor to floor etc and it’s really rather overpriced in general but you’re on mt Hood in a famous building
- Harbaugh (9/5): Such a cool, interesting, and relaxing experience! - Historic, cozy, peaceful Rooms were too warm
- Julie (8/5): Impressed our Australian friends, however, management seems to have changed…restrictive. - Location and the facility Too many rules…
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cannon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sylvia (7/5): The location at timberline makes up for what it lacks in amenities - Timberline is a outstanding property with regards to location. Easy access from Portland and great roads that get you there safely. The view is unbeatable, and the architecture is so unique. I feel like the property is starting to show age and needs a bit of TLC. The sofas are showing where and the staff seems to lag and getting things tidied up around the great rooms where the fireplaces are located. The sink in my bathroom did not drain and my phone was missing a mouthpiece so when I tried calling the desk to get some assistance, they could not hear me speak
- Scott (7/5): Good -
- Evan (5/5): Amazing place, but NOT worth the price of an overnight stay - Wonderful location, beautiful setting, and steeped in history. A place I’ve visited on day trips countless times but finally stayed overnight. Always enjoy seeing FDR’s chair and the other historic displays, plus the amazing craftsmanship of depression-era WPA workers who built the lodge.
Best part was hanging out by the massive, multi-story, super cool three-sided fireplace in the evening after the day crowds departed. I know it’s a remote, old/historic hotel with high operating and maintenance costs, but a super basic room with a creaky bed is NOT worth $400/night -- during the week, that is! Costs even more on weekends.
We were also jarred awake around 4am to the backup beeping of a snowplow/tractor outside, which continued nonstop all morning clearing the parking lot. I know that’s a necessity, but still obnoxious.
Lastly, the main dining room’s breakfast buffet is extremely disappointing - $29.50 per person for barely a step above what you’d get free/included at a Holiday Inn express.
- Laurie (8/5): Very good -
- Tim (7/5): You don’t stay here for the luxury you stay here for the album - This is an historic lodge and very old. The space is wonderful, but the staff was hit or miss. You stay here for the skiing not for the service. Some of the staff was amazing so not so.. it’s expensive but it’s the only place on the mountain. :) Checkin was made more difficult by poor training of the staff. Getting reservations to the restaurant was very hard. It’s noisy and the beds are creaky and you can hear everything in the hallways in the room next to you room above you.
- Jeremy (7/5): Good -
- Breana (5/5): Good we will come again, but will be looking elsewhere to stay. - Timberline is always a nice place to be We love the mountain & timberline, but the one night stay wasn't worth the price & the dinning took a while, apparently they were short staffed.
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zadow (6/5): Pleasant - Dinner in the main restaurant. Ambiance of the Lodge. Friendly and helpful staff. The bed in our room. Lack of attention to details of the Christmas decorations and chipped glassware.
- Rolando (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (10/5): Wonderful, can’t wait to go back! - We loved being at Timberline Lodge for our 1-night stay! It looked great and tidy, as usual. Our meal in the lobby bar was very good ( salmon, squash soup, beef stew) and the expensive breakfast was worth the $30.00. Really yummy including a great latte. Our room, 105, was really nice. Nice front desk staff ( actually they could have been a little more excited in their greeting skills…). The cake for the St. Bernard’s birthday celebration ( Heidi) was fantastic but it could have been more festive if a big sign had been made (e.g. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEIDI!) and maybe a few balloons put out. The event was slated for 1:00-2:00. By 2:30 there was no cake left, no dog and no sign there had been an event except used dishes and a water dispenser ( which was nice).
- Charles-hubert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mahoney (10/5): Historic lodge. - Location was the key for us. We loved the proximity to Mt Hood. The service staff were not on top of their game in the restaurant.
- Timothy (10/5): It was our 30th anniversary and out of 30 years of them, this was our favorite! - We liked everything! We give the staff, the room, the food, and the location an absolute 10+
- Parsons (8/5): Very good - The lodge is beautiful. Room was cramped and there wasn't really a view from our window.
- Jones (10/5): Mt Hood is challenging in bad weather which we had. Once we got inside, all was perfect. - Perfect in all regards. Truly a special place...actually there are no words to describe the incredible lodge.
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Everything thing was beyond expectations was one of my best experiences of my life! Nothing!!!
- Paul (7/5): Disappointing, time to modernize the experience - The history and remote setting Limited amenities in the rooms, a small computer screen for a tv? No coffee maker, and I didn’t understand war plugs being issued until the room above me flushed the toilet. I get that it’s an old historic hotel, but for what they are charging they need to do way better. The breakfast buffet was disappointing to say the least, for $30 I would have expected food not to be cold, and empty items to be replenished.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeannette (6/5): Pleasant - Beautiful, historical lodge in stunning natural surroundings. Perfectly situated to start or end your Timberline Trail thru-hike. So noisy. It's an old, historic building, so that's understandable, but fellow guests were incredibly thoughtless, yakking it up in the halls and adjacent rooms all night. Make sure you ask NOT to be placed in Chalet 4, which is adjacent to the gym; staff does not enforce quiet hours there, and the equipment is super-loud.
- Cclangg (10/5): Amazing time at Timberline. Unique and special. - Incredible design and history.
Especially love the great hall morning coffee in the fire and the walk along the Pacific Crest trail
- Barbara (10/5): Wonderful food and atmosphere - Dinner in the Cascade dining room. Service.
- Linda (9/5): Nice stay. - Easy check in, room well appointed, and clean. Large shower with plenty of hot water. Nice staff. Bathroom doesn't have much storage, but was expected, given the age of the hotel. Our room did get fairly hot, but we also knew it didn't have A/C.
- Neil (8/5): Great location, great building, but expensive - Location and history Rooms small, beds uncomfortable. Building work being undertaken at property.
- Signe (8/5): welcomed night respite off the PCT - The lodge construction is beautiful and views Top bunk bed needs a ladder, not just the thin structural boards. Wait staff at Rams Head seemed burnt/fatigued (understandable).
- Graham (4/5): Iconic location, but food in main restaurant was poor quality and overpriced but guests do not have a choice. - Location and building are excellent Beds are too high and the hotel is extremely noisy overnight due to air conditioning. Building work started at 7am.
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matt (6/5): Great bones, but it needs a refresh. - cool old facility, with a lot of character needs freshening up. looking tired - restaurant options were polarized. the main restaurant was too expensive for the quality, and the base restaurant was uninspiring. Rooms need a better way to cool down. it was too hot to sleep. The exterior construction really impacted the ability to enjoy the outside of the property. In the end, the rate was not a good value.
- Leslie (9/5): Perfect old time feel of rustic luxury - The food was amazing!
- Lev (7/5): Good - Spectacular location with views of Mt Hood; unique historical interior Has not been updated since the 1930's; missing basic amenities and comforts considering the high price
- Nimesh (3/5): Don’t stay here, just come and enjoy the facilities -
- John (8/5): Glad we stayed there. - Location, great coffee, great beds, towels and sheets Trails need to be better marked around the lodge. Food prices are very high, so we ate elsewhere. Floors seemed dirty. Better lighting is needed for reading in bed.
- John (10/5): The history and charm of the lodge were well-matched with the attentive and friendly staff. - History and craftsmanship. There was nothing not to like.
- David (7/5): Historic! - Lovely setting; historic and charming building, helpful staff. No AC and poor ventilation is a little tough on a hot summer's night. Walls are very thin... could easily hear the guy snoring next door.
- Sandra (2/5): Very poor - Old dirty carpet, dirty shower tiles, feathers sticking you as they are used to cover the mattress
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Paola (8/5): Very good - Historic site. Location. Old rooms kept in decor of the time. Excellent if pricey breakfast buffet. Good value for money. Helpful staff. Soft beds. Cafe and restaurant food was uninspired.
- Casey (8/5): Very good - A beautiful location, loved the history of the building. The building itself was incredible 🙌 We were woken up at 0600 to the sounds of hammers and drills. The building is under reconstruction.
- Daniel (9/5): Superb - Very atmospheric hotel, wonderful view A bit pricy for a quite basic room
- Colleen (7/5): Good - Historic landmark well maintained. Proximity to hiking. Quiet hours 10pm-9am. Magnificent views. Small queen bed room with no chairs, no horizontal desk surface (vintage foldout desk not flat). Tiny BR sink - your feet and floor get splashed. Front desk charged extra $50 check-in-early at 1pm fee even though we declined it when initially booking online and arrived after 2:30. At checkout, this was discovered to be a hotel clerical error and was corrected. Always check printed receipt before leaving.
