Simon (6/5): - Disappointed with the stay. Room was very basic and not particularly clean. The room was on the ground floor, facing the parking area and windows were opaque glass, so certainly not the 'garden view' we booked and expected. Quite noisy through the night and then strong cooking smells from very early in the morning. There is a sensor in the room which emits a very bright white flashing light every few seconds. Bedsheets thin and towels threadbare. Staff were efficient and very pleasant, and the facilities seemed excellent. Plenty of parking spots and the place is very secure. Breakfast was ok, although the choice of juice OR coffee seemed strange. Hopefully other rooms are nicer, I would certainly avoid the ground floor rooms if possible.

Shawn (8/5): - A great hotel to stay at that’s near the national stadium for a concert (Paul McCartney!!!). The interior is a little dated but safe and clean with a friendly, helpful staff. You also get access to the amenities of the Tennis Club; 2 pools and indoor and outdoor tennis courts! A great deal in a great location!

Larry (8/5): Roaches!! - Never a good experience when a huge roach wakes u up at 3:30 am crawling on your back while u sleeping. Saw several others about so they must not clean well and was a lot of small flying bugs tgat cami inside from the rocky “patio” area. Carpet hasent been replaced in years but it was a secure and a place to rest up if u don’t mind lil critters.

julioh274 (4/5): Worst night at a hotel ever - The club itself is OK, The personal was very kind and professional,breakfast meh!...but the hotel is terrible, old rooms, the entrance rug looked like it has seen one too many decades and it smells. Room: Old, poorly lighted, bathroom was ok and it looked like it has been remodeled not long ago, but... we were on the first floor, right above us was the family room (room 23), exactly at 2am they were talking loud and moving furniture (not hotels fault I know), so I woke and went looking for the front desk guy (no show), then at 5am train, at 6am train, 7am train... paper thin walls, I can literally hear next room guy snoring, worst night I have spent at a hotel. Management should invest a little on fixing the hotel part a little, or just change management completely or just shut the hotel part. It has great location and potencial, but it was just terrible.

Israel (8/5): Hotel de paso - Utilizamos el hospedaje pues mi hija tenía una cita muy temprano en a mañana en SJ. En general no es malo, pero las instalaciones son un poco viejas. Las puertas del balcón no cierran, así que pasamos la noche con algo de viento y frío. El restaurante cierra muy temprano, a las 5pm.

ANGELA (10/5): - The staff was amazing. Great sports center. I have never stayed anywhere that they have an all sports complex. They have soccer, tennis racquet ball, fitness center, spinning, swimming, hand ball and much more. It is dated you can clearly see it is an older facility but they really take great care of the place. Constantly cleaning. I mean really great care. The people are so nice. The restaurants are wonderful as well.
AlbaF270 (2/5): Very bad management won’t stay again don’t get impressed with the pictures rooms are terrible - Rooms are terrible Poor lighting food is bad and the service is pathetic they don’t speak English and coming for a international tennis tournament you would think at least have one person who can translate for the players ? No nothing of that besides the restaurant opens at 8 am and the matches start at 8 am so imagine what poor thinking and planning by the management

hugswims (10/5): Athletes’ Paradise in the Heart of San Jose - I spent three nights at the Costa Rica Tennis Club Hotel and hated to leave. Based on some of the reviews, I was hesitant to book but because it has a 25m pool I decided to give it a chance, and booked for one night. The staff was friendly, the room was updated, and clean, and the sports facilities were fantastic so I booked for two more nights. I am a swimmer and loved having an 8 lane competition pool available for daily training. I also used the gym which had a great variety of machines and weights. There were courts for every type of racquet sport, a basketball court, pong ponf, a bowling alley, a second pool, steam room and sauna, massage therapists, a pro shop; and more! There also is a nice sports bar where the complimentary breakfast is served. If b be you take it out in the patio you can watch folks running. Online skating,cycling and horseback riding. To top it off, the price was under $60 per night. I would think a day pass to a club like this would be around $30+ so this is a great deal. If/when I return to San Jose I definitely will plan on seating here.

nabeab (8/5): Great 25mts lap pool! - We were invited by a member and because we seim we went only for the pool which was excellent maintained. Great Temperature for swimmers, very cold! But we had a great early swim🏊🏻‍♂️🏊🏻‍♀️ The tennis courts looked very good, the restaurant is big and you can have a good early breakfast too

The hotel is still working with obsolete techonoloy such as keys and air conditioner, the lamps and accesses and all in general . WI fi did not work , Too expensive comparing price and services received . Staff in the restaurant very rude .
Scott (10/5): Best Hotel Amenities - Choose from 5 indoor or 5 outdoor tennis courts, basketball, 2 pools, weights, aerobic equipment, bowling and squash, all included. Onsite bar and restaurant. Staff is very friendly, rooms are a little "tired". Massage costs a little extra ($30/hr), but it is well worth the money.
Dave (8/5): Secure Hotel with Amazing Sports Amenities - The hotel covers what seems to be an entire block, with 2 pools, many indoor and outdoor tennis courts, table tennis, racketball, fitness center, soccer, and bowling. The restaurant is excellent. The rooms are fine as they have air conditioning, which is not always the case in the area. The water pressure is pretty low, which is not a feature. The staff is very helpful. I've stayed here twice while getting dental work done, and would certainly recommend it to my friends.
Mike (10/5): Nice hotel not far from downtown San Jose - Good service and friendly staff. Continental breakfast very good. On my last day one of the staff forgot to give my clothes to the laundry service the morning before my departure, and I almost had to go home with more dirty clothes than I wanted. But the man on duty when I went to check on the laundry in the evening, Carlos, was able to get another staff member to stay late and do my laundry so that my clothes would be clean. So I want to commend Carlos for his superior effort. He was even willing to take my clothes home with him that evening and wash them at his house so that I would have them back clean the next morning before checking out. Carlos is an excellent staff member and his customer service skills are extraordinary.
Verified traveler (10/5): tennis anyone - This is a great place if you want to play tennis. Its not the greatest hotel, but the tennis club facilities are top notch. The hotel is English friendly, but the rest of the facility and area will be much easier navigated in Spanish.
Michael (2/5): Really Bad Hotel - The photos are not at all as they seem. The hotel management are very rude and not helpful at all. This is not a 4 star hotel; this is more like a 2 star, the price isn't great either considering the hotel is in bad conditions.
Douglas (8/5): Old vintage style rooms.. - This place has been around for decades....it has the feel of a time travel in the rooms. They are clean comfortable and pretty big. The facilities are amazing even a bowling alley is available. Excellent gym, spa, and plenty of activiies to keep you busy through out the day. Staff overall are very friendly and helpful. I would definitely make my next stay much longer when you are getting the kind of attention you can't get anywhere else.

Easy walking distance. unfortunately The entrance was under construction so my walk was3 long blocks farther than I expected
travelgirl1313_7 (2/5): Don't even try it - This was the worst attempt at a 3.5 star hotel I've ever seen. There is no way to find it first of all. It is in a terrible neighborhood. There is no sign. The parking lot is clean when you finally find it and it does have security and barb wire around it. The room was awful and dirty. It had bugs that immediately started biting us. We were only there 5 minutes and it was enough to know we didn't want to stay there. Even though it was 12:30am and we had been driving for 6 hours we left.
gperezs28 (8/5): OK place to stay if you wanna go cheap.. but you will be woken up at 5AM - The place is OK.. not amazing or anything. Is just a hotel inside a tennis club basically. I have to say it was clean and they were very helpful with arranging some tours for me. Breakfast is no good, very poor breakfast and the service is really slow. The rooms were a bit old and outdated but they were clean. The hotel is located close to the main road so you will hear all the cars go by and there is a railroad close to it too so you will hear the train go by in the morning at 5AM.
Jan (6/5): Location convenient but terribly noisy. - We arrived around 4 pm to find that our booked superior room with 2 king sized beds was not available. On offer was a room next to the main road with 1 double and 2 singles ! Noise is a problem at this hotel. I complained and was told hotel was full but the did have a room which had never been used which had 1 king bed and at the other end of the hotel (less noisy). We accepted abd this was fine. This was good as I would not have stayed in the original room on offer. Expedia should explain to hotels that they should honour the booking.
Mike S (2/5): Horrible hotel at a Nice Tennis Facility - My family and I booked a nite at this property 10 days in Advance, when we arrived we attempted to reserve a tennis court, no courts available on our day of arrival nor the following day... After check-in we headed to our 2nd floor room, no assistance with luggage or valet and no elevator. Room had stained carpets, out dated everything! Room was less than 40 feet from the busy train tracks and a 4 lane road was 15 feet from the bedroom, Loud road noise all night long! NO Sleep!!!!!!! We were given vouchers for the Breakfast Buffet, except they failed to mention that it did not include the fruit, yogurt, cereal or omelets as these items would incur an additional charge, only food permitted were either scrambled eggs or two fried eggs plus rice and beans...
ESPERANZA (4/5): Old and cheap quality for the price - No elevator, noisy! Train near by, starts at 5:00 am! Old build ing! In the past they had breakfast buffet, now they ask: Juice or Coffee... I ask for Coffee and it was horrible! That was interesting because the day before I purch a Coffee and it was good! But the one in the breakfast included is awful... No fruits! The breakfast was rice and beans with fried eggs... I like scramble but I had no choice. I you can pay this Price, book in o the hotel!

289johncs (2/5): 5am alarm wakening when train goes by shakes whole building and sounds horn continues for two hours - rooms terrible,WiFi barely works; claims to offer free breakfast cold eggs and cold rice, very poor lighting in rooms, very noisy location,if you like to be rudely awakened every morning and eat a terrible free breakfast I highly recommend is out dated noisy and smelly hotel. If you want a conformable quiet hotel try the crowne plazza
Tica1956 (4/5): Need to upgrade the food! - Got invited for lunch on a weekday -so no excuse that it was full- & it was a big disappointment! Service was slow but... had nice company so we were not in a hurry, eventually we had our mains, I order a Taco Suizo which being in CR had never been a mistake until this time... horrible, cheese was so cooked could not eat it, the meat was tough & honestly I did not retuned the order as We were invited & did not wanted to make a scene, but will recommend to seriously check the quality that comes out of the kitchen; my husband's order was supposed to be a grilled fish but was cooked in aluminum foil which is definitely not grilled!

The bathroom is not fancy at all. The bed was ok and clean. No fridge/minibar available. Good TV. The club itself is alright, it has sauna, pools, ping pong tables and several tennis courts. The breakfast in the restaurant was very good but basic.

They were serving a buffet, but my guest and I didn't get a serving. They served a couple of eggs, rice and beans. No choice of fruit, because that was extra. Never felt as undervalued customer in my life. Problem with low Costa Rican business quality standards.
herib2014 (2/5): Don't go there - Have been in that hotel forever. During the last 10 years at least 2-4 times per year, normally 1-2 weeks per stay. The ONLY reason I stayed at the hotel was to play tenis with my friends. Some weeks ago the hotel changed the policy - now a guest can only invite a guest once a month. The rooms are poorest quality. About 2 years ago they remodeled one room as an example how the new rooms will look like, but have never done the others. The personnel at the hotel is great, and the restaurant is very nice and inexpensive. Tennis courts, pools etc. Great. ... But don't go there for the really bad hotel rooms.
SilviJM (2/5): Poor - awful customer service - The customer service is terrible, for a saturday night they closed the kitchen restaurant in our faces at 21:08. The employees has no manners. Good location, old hotel, never coming back, not worth it.
ochassot (8/5): A great alternative in San Jose - The Costa Rica Tennis Club was funded a hundred years ago and now features a nice hotel with rooms that may accommodate up to six guests. The hotel offers many sports activities on site, such as tennis of course, but also squash, basketball, and swimming. This is a perfect place if you travel with teenagers. The Sabana (San Jose's central and largest park) is just across the road and allow for walking, running, skating and other leisure activities.
raquelb938 (2/5): Urgent need of remodel - This hotel looks like it hasn't been remodeled since the 70's. The carpet was stained and the walls need to be painted. The shower floor looked dirty maybe stained. To top it off, when we got to the room, the bed hadn't been made, the floor was full of carpet cleaner and I wasn't even early. I asked if they had another room, but they didn't, so I had to wait for it to be cleaned.
gregory (6/5): Awesome sports club - Don't choose this hotel if you are looking for luxurious accommodations. But if access to a great sports club works for you, this place rocks. In truth the hotel kinda sucks. It is outdated. The beds are not comfortable. There is a train that passes by frequently beginning about 5:30am. But the sports club is awesome. Great facilities. It takes a little work to access, but all is available to hotel guests. The hotel management is more helpful than the staff. The restaurant is good. Because of the club, I loved my stay and would return. If they'd improve the rooms, I'd never leave!
17matildal (4/5): Outdated and loud bar upstairs - Our 2nd floor room was clean and tidy, but it was quite dated and really in need or remodeling. The room felt like it was straight out of the early 1980s. Was also disappointed to discover our room faced the busy street and was directly underneath a bar. We had the pleasure of hearing the lyrics to AC/DC's Hell's Bells and loud (likely drunk) patrons while trying to fall asleep. All the amenities to the tennis club were also closing shortly after we arrived, so we couldn't bowl or play ping pong. The front desk and restaurant staff were very friendly, and the food was good. When we return to San Jose for another night, we'll look to stay somewhere else.
Joe83127 (8/5): Family trip - It was great we stayed at the beginning and end of our trip. Gabreal at the front desk was amazing helping my family go to dinner and eat there also ordered pizza for us what a great help hotel was so clean and easy in and out for activities. Superior room had 4 double beds for family's. Would stay again breakfast was really good also.

Verified traveler (6/5): Tennis hotel for non-tennis players - I selected this hotel at the recommendation of Expedia staff because I had to change hotels. The hotel was okay but not really set up for tourists. It caters more towards members. All in all, it was just okay. The biggest negatives were the traffic noise all night long and the other was location. There was not much within walking distance.

fabriziobU1805YH (6/5): Comfy Club - The club is good and you'll find some great entertainment if you are into sports. The restaurant is pretty healthy and prices are awesome. Its not the most sophisticated, but it is comfortable and you'll have a great time here.

Pablo (8/5): Close to downtown - Nice for the price. Great Breakfast, Internet quality was low, and the king size bed, is not a king size, they put together 2 single beds, so when you sleep, you can feel the divition, the hotel is clean, safe, is an old bulding.
David (8/5): No kitchenettes, otherwise a really great place - The CRTC affords a guest a unique opportunity to experience what living in Costa Rica, among the club set, means. The buildings are older, the Club was founded in 1911. However, the facilities are extensive and the restaurant is a great example of a social/family gathering place for Ticos of some means. This is a different experience than a US-centric hotel chain; just request a remodeled room. (The service is really good too.)
Verified traveler (6/5): Noise from traffic, but helpful staff - The hotel building is next to a very busy road. There was loud traffic noise all night long. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great with good selection.
15_ssam (2/5): Not worth the stay - My family and I stayed here in 2007 and again this year. Rooms have not changed at all. We had two rooms for 5 of us one of the rooms had comforters that smelled as if they were peed on and never changed we took the comforters off to find blood and yellow stains on the sheets. The shower in the other room did not work at all. They seemed to care less and did not refund us anything nor did they attempt to fix the shower. Breakfast is the same everyday not much variety. Some of the staff members were nice others not so much, overall my family and I will not be staying here again and I would never recommended this place. With the price of the rooms you would think they were nicer but they are old and as I said they haven't changed one bit within 8 years.
RobertKmen (8/5): Perfect for athletes - If you are a tennis enthusiast, squash player, swimmer, basketball player, bowler, or want a well-equipped gymnasium, this is an excellent choice in San Jose. The hotel itself is modest but clean. The front desk staff are cheerful, helpful, and speak English well. The rooms facing the street can be noisy, but the interior rooms are peaceful. The included breakfast is ample and prepared-to-order. The Tennis Club is tobacco free, so smokers might feel more comfortable elsewhere. There is ample free parking, and there is a bus stop right outside the hotel for those who want to use public transport to go downtown. In sum, the athletic facilities are the principle attraction of this hotel.
Jay (10/5): Great Place and Excellent Staff - Stayed at the hotel again. The Staff is great from housekeeping to the front desk Ulysess. Stayed 11 days and you never run out of things to do.
Jay (8/5): Central and Great Sport Facilities - Very central 1 hour from the beach, or 40 minutes from Cartago. Great Staff very Friendly, facilities are nice. Only draw back is the noise from the train close by. Rooms are clean even though they are bit old.

Connie (8/5): - The facilities of the Costa Rica Tennis Club are wonderful. The room could use an update but the bed was very comfortable. The one major drawback is that it is just across from the rail line which is quite noisy. Also, possibly I misread the listing but things like iron and board and refrigerator were not in the room.
