- Raiwet (6/5): Not as expected, great location but nothing more - Location Picture misrepresented hotel , this is basically a pub with a few rooms above the pub, anyone with any mobility issues or are aging , could not use this hotel. Had to climb and haul luggage 3 flights of tight stares. Staff was not helpful when ordering drinks/food in garden lounge ,asked staff if they served this area, they replied that they did not. So I climbed 2 sets of stairs to get a drink and order food. Only to find out latter they in deed do service the area I asked about!
Servizio ottimo.

- Joe (10/5): Great rooms. - Location is great N/a
- Kathleen (10/5): York is a wonderful city to visit and the Fat Badger is a great place to stay - Beautiful location steps from the Uork Minster and Bootham Bar. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. The rooms were a little tight due to historic nature of the building, but everything was pretty and very clean.
- Charles (8/5): -
- Mark (4/5): Room dimmly lit small and smelt of smoked fish every evening from the restaurant bar toilet seat us - Nothing All
- Debra (7/5): Enjoyable - Sunday roast was delicious. Very noisy yearly in the morning
- Franca (8/5): - location was excellent, secret garden was lovely
- Deborah (10/5): Great stay in York we regularly stay at the fat badger previous lamb and lion,it speaks for itself - Central location, amazing beer garden, lovely food Loved it all
- Kim (7/5): NICE STAY AT Fat Badger - Had a lovely attic room which felt very private. Also lovely decor. Comfy bed. Although i loved the room the stairs up and down were difficult being very narrow and steep. The temp gauge (to raise or lower the temp) fell off the radiator.

- Neall (9/5): Perfect location - The location was excellent, right up against Bootham Gate and an easy stroll to the cathedral. Room was charming, if a little small for two people. Staff was friendly and helpful. We had lunch in the garden and it was very nice.
- Mary (10/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful.
- mandyd703 (2/5): Terrible staff attitude - I am sadly sat in the bar on my own enjoying a drink, there is a very loud chap at the bar effing and jeffing and actually very demeaning to the bar people. It seems he knows them, in fact I confirmed that he does work here but “not on shift” it’s very uncomfortable for all around to have to listen to this. Maybe have a word re not being such a male chauvinist and actually to keep his volume down, in fact stop being such a ….. head
- Simon (9/5): -
- Foster (7/5): - Breakfast was great, location was perfect, staff where helpful Bed was uncomfortable and decoration needed some attention throughout the hotel
- Pollyannapuppy19 (10/5): A lovely stay - We booked Fat Badger after friends had stayed and recommended it. We booked the Superior room and were given Room 9 at the top overlooking the garden. Just a 10 minute walk to the station, we arrived early and the staff were so friendly and took our luggage to our room and also brought it down again when we left.
Having booked for our Anniversary and this mentioned on our booking it was a tad disappointing that there wasnt a little touch to recognise this. We had breakfast each morning at Fat Badger and also booked a dinner too on our first night and ordered drinks in the Secret Garden all of which were superb and we couldn't have been looked after any better. Room serviced to perfection and everyone we encountered was so friendly
My only negative is that the room is a bit dark and could do with a central light or another lamp, and perhaps chocolates instead of the sweets would be more to our taste.
Ideally located for all the sights. We had a lovely stay and beautiful weather too

- yvonnesD2059WT (10/5): Great atmosphere - Lovely bar, a welcoming atmosphere, the staff were kind and the food was really good.
- Robert (9/5): Going back in time…. - Location proximity to the theatre
Quirkiness No view due to all the scaffolding outside.
- stevendK7366WQ (8/5): Birthday at Fat Badger - I loved my birthday burger here. We ate in the snug and loved the pub. Service was quick despite it being really busy. Defo recommend.

- Valerie (10/5): -
- Laura (8/5): Very comfortable stay and great location near York Minster - Beds and pillows were really comfortable and breakfast was lovely. I couldnt get tv to come on at night but it wasnt an issue as i was checking out following morning anyway.

- James (10/5): - The location was very central and the hotel was super cozy, I really liked it!
- screenprinta (6/5): Not bad bit overpriced - Nice old pub with rooms. Our room quite small and dark, bathroom cramped. Room painted very dark and no decent reading lights. Bed small but comfortable, place seemed to be staffed entirely by teenagers. Woken at 5 by the bin men then at 7 by a beer delivery. Breakfast ok, my wife had eggs benedict and the eggs were solid. When asked if everything was ok she pointed this out and the response was 'Oh sorry.'
- Michael (7/5): -
- Nicola (10/5): - Staff lovely, room so comfortable and exceptionally clean, breakfast was beautiful Nothing
- Stuart (7/5): - Restaurant in house, food quality and variety, bar in house, outdoor garden with table service, walking distance to most attractions, Finding it was difficult, there is no parking and the voucher for paid parking was withdrawn. All rooms were accessed by stairs (lots) but staff were very helpful with luggage.
- LiseW5 (10/5): A Fab Sunay Roast - We only ate here, booked our table first and glad we did, was a busy place. Food was amazing, I had sunday roast, was perfect.
- Stephen (7/5): Was ok probably would stay elsewhere in future - Nice location & nice outside seating area Was a bit tatty in places I repaired holes in the stairway walls, shower was a bit small
- Tracey (10/5): - It was our 10th Wedding Anniversary and we got upgraded in our room with a Four Poster Bed, superb.
All the staff were lovely, very helpful. The tv didnt work fully, the sound was on but no picture and my husband was looking forward to watching the boxing when we got back but couldn't watch it as only sound. We did report it but when we got back it still wasn't working.
The only other thing the toilet seat completely fell off but my husband managed to get it back on.
Minors things though other that that great stay.
- Lucy (7/5): Birthday trip - Very comfy beds
Excellent location.
Lovely beer garden to the rear. Quite noisy, and rooms could do with a little TLC
- Kelly (9/5): -
- Suzie (10/5): Last minute and perfect - Location was brilliant, decor gorgeous, room comfortable, beautiful and unique, staff lovely, food delicious Nothing
- Helen (8/5): A good place for shopping and visiting the Minster handy for the train too - Quirky near a tower and close to Minster The decor was interesting artwork quirky
- Yohan (8/5): -
- Carolann (10/5): - The location was amazing, the room was beautifully decorated and the staff were lovely. Nothing.
- angeladR6931BJ (10/5): The Fat Badger - While staying at the Clementine Hitel York we went to the Fat Badger restaurant so amazing , so friendly and food is amazing , and if you stay at the Clementine Hotel you get £10 off the bill at the Fat Badger .
- Hens (7/5): -
- Jill (9/5): -
- Danielle (10/5): -
- Lorna (9/5): Lovely stay. Lived up to expectations -
- Louise (10/5): -
- Janet (8/5): Nuzzled in the centre of ancient York. - I guess the centre of York is expensive but it was a small room for£175 without breakfast in my opinion. Love the very old pub atmosphere but there was scaffolding at our window which can't be helped I suppose. It was warm and atmospheric. The bed was small for a double and mattress quite saggy.
Shower very difficult to turn so my husband had to do it and I nearly scalded myself.
- Rebekah (10/5): 50th birthday weekend celebration - Perfect location and lovely hotel and staff. Breakfast was a bit pricey but would definitely go there again and have been recommending to everyone. There was nothing I didnt like, everyone was so helpful.
- Marnie (10/5): -
- Mhoira (8/5): The Fat Badger took care of me very well but I wouldn’t stay in room 10 again - The situation is perfect for exploring York on foot Unfortunately I had all the kitchen vents outside my bedroom window and I do value fresh air.. and I would also have to suggest guests set the water temp to low before turning on the flow as the water is scaldingly hot. … but the room was clean, the staff were all friendly and the food was delicious when I had dinner there…. Pea ravioli and apple and rhubarb crumble.
- adele (8/5): Great hotel, I would recommend - Central, friendly staff Food ok but not as tasty as some and portions a bit large
- Christine (9/5): - Brilliant location.
- Roberto (4/5): - POSIZIONE LA FINESTRA DELLLA CAMERE ERA ACCANTO ALLA CANNA FUMARIA DELLA CUCINA: RUMORE E PUZZO DI CIBO IN CAMERA
- Gilbert_Chesterton (8/5): Good - Food and drinks were excellent, everything we ordered was fresh, well-prepared, and really enjoyable. The secret garden is a real treat too, such a lovely space to relax and makes the whole experience feel a bit special.
They actively encourage ordering via QR code, which I didn’t have a problem with in itself, it’s quick and convenient. However, I wasn’t impressed with the tipping process. After being asked to leave a tip and selecting “no,” one was still automatically added. That felt a bit misleading and left a sour note on an otherwise great visit.
- Lottie (7/5): Lovely. - Decor, staff Scaffolding we couldn’t see the view of the gate, some of the pub needed maintenance, cracks in the wall in the hall way.
- Emma (9/5): Great staff as always - Lovely room, great comfy bed and pillows, lovely staff and atmosphere, tasty breakfast Nothing
- Lisa (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Love the location, quirkiness and everything about this place. Amazing friendly staff and lovely food. There isn’t anything I didn’t like.
- Jason (9/5): - Couldn’t be more central and a stones throw from the Minster
- pattykins1926 (10/5): Fabulous - Just stayed for 2nights for our anniversary with our son and daughter in law. Had a great time . Very central. A small boutique hotel. Rooms very nice . Breakfast wonderful, quality ingredients big portions. Staff very nice but the highlight was a waitress called Debbie. She has to be the best we have ever had , A wonderful sense of humour and very witty She was hilarious , we couldn’t stop laughing 😂 would fully recommend 👏🏻
- Andrew (10/5): Excellent location and the staff were lovely - The location, the staff, the breakfasts! It was a little pricey
- Charlene Smalley (8/5): -
- Susan (6/5): Nice location. - Breakfast and location The bed was very creaky and uncomfortable, felt like it may be broken? The shower head had a broken coller and tray was chipped and when turned on although warm water came out the shower head on the wall, a steady steam of cold poured through a crack in the ceiling over head.
- ian (10/5): staff great food great stay great - central all ok
- Laura (8/5): -
- William (10/5): Fabulous place to stay and visit York - Centrally located. Stunning building.
Rooms were really great. Huge comfy beds. Decor is so lovely. Food was excellent. Staff were all so welcoming and attentive.
Loved it. Not a thing
- Tim (10/5): Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning👍 - Staff were excellent, especially the lady who served us breakfast 👍 N/A
- bparkercars (6/5): Overpriced. - The Fat Badger, previously The Lamb and Lion Inn. Disappointed on this visit, first since the name change. Whilst we enjoy the interior and the service was very good, we did not appreciate the drinks price. £20+ for our usual round that cost an average of £12 elsewhere within the York city walls, including other venues within 70 yards.
- Lynne Alexandra (7/5): Pleasant stay with some room for improvement - The staff were very polite and helpful. The location was superb. The breakfast was lovely. Bed was comfortable. Rooms too warm and floor could do with a rug of some kind as it felt uncomfortable under foot after a while. Flushing the toilet made the pipes very noisy afterwards. Tables could be closer to the bed as nowhere to put phone/glasses.
- Barbara (10/5): - It was a great location,staff very helpful,really good food
- Elaine Rae (10/5): Perfection - We loved everything. Our room was beautiful, stylish and cosy. The bed was exceptionally comfy. The building is full of character, the staff welcoming and professional. The location was unbeatable; in the heart of York, seconds away from the Minster. Loved everything!
- udy (9/5): -
- Hart (6/5): very nice, bed comfortable - The bedroom was lovely and location brilliant It was just too hot! I’m not sure if it was because we were above the bar but we kept the radiator turned off in the bedroom but the bathroom one wouldn’t turn off and was just too hot even with the window open

- Seaside392622 (8/5): A local disappointed GF diner - I visited the Fat Badger with my husband and two close friends for Sunday Lunch (we all live in York)
As I am gluten free the menu gave me the option for Sunday lunch as well as the a la carte menu too.
My husband and friends all chose Sunday lunch (2x Beef. 1x Pork at £ 22.95 & £20.95 respectively) who were all very pleased with their meals. I however chose the 8oz Braised Featherblade of Beef, Truffle & Parmesan Mash, Red wine Jus, Tenderstem broccoli (GF) £26.50.
My meal came with a chunk of meat (very tender) with a large piece of 'jelly like fat'! 6 x very large plain boiled potatoes which nearly filled the bowl and as if they had forgotten to mash them. Not the lovely mash I was expecting and 3 pieces of Tenderstem broccoli. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. As gluten free you always feel like you are getting second best of a meal and that also doesn't justify the price.
- John (4/5): Blah - Location Didn’t get booked in properly , which caused hassle to sort it out , building covered in scaffold , could get into the bar area for over 40 mins even though we were residents , just very average all round for money
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Eric (8/5): - Brilliant location in the centre next to minster. I would of liked fridge in room for drinks it got very warm at night so drinks got warm.
- Kim (10/5): Fab weekend in York! - Great staff lovely place really good breakfast. Very central which was ideal! York is a beautiful city Everything was great!
- Susan Jane (10/5): - Fanastic
- Philippa (9/5): We would love to go back. -
- Sheena (10/5): Stayed one night the room was lovely the breakfast was amazing excellent location staff very nice and berry helpful woul - Well maintained very unique Just the noise of cars and bin men
- Emma (8/5): Great stay - Location fantastic, bed comfy and clean Heating in room not working and had a blow heater that was very loud
- Katy (10/5): Anniversary Trip - Everything was great about this little hotel. It’s beautifully decorated, staff are lovely and chatty. Location is great and breakfast was yummy. Nothing, we would stay here again.
- Daayve (4/5): Poor experience - Booked for a party of 10 in September for early December, so well in advance. On the evening 3 of the main dishes on the menu were not available, so obviously they had not planned ahead. From the limited choice, basically we were left with fish and chips a vegetarian and one other main, a couple were served cold or small portions and needed to be returned. Although they did handle this well and the service was efficient and friendly. It’s expensive for the quality. I’ve eaten at fat badger before on Harrogate and was very good. It’s now become a chain and like many that do they overstretch themselves and lose their uniqueness
- Pedro (10/5): -
- Clare (8/5): -
- David (10/5): Loved york and the Fat Badger was friendly. Definitely stay again - Great little room although the climb up the attic stairs was a challenge lol. Breakfast was fabulous Climb to the room was a little steep
- Dorinda (8/5): Had an amazing day I would recommend it and I would definitely go back - It was so close to everything easy walking distance great location The property had great character. The rooms were quirky.
- Mark (7/5): -
- Julia80 (10/5): - Very considerate of my perfume allergy
- Kelly (8/5): We had a lovely stay, which made our weekend away. Room was lovely spacious and clean and the breakfast was great - Unique & clean very close to everything The noise of the room next door
- Peter (10/5): Christmas Market Night Away - The Location was amazing for the price so central and the room was very warm and welcoming. After being out at the Christmas market and a meal we went back for a drink before bed and couldn't get a seat due to the bar area being so small so we had to sit outside but I do understand it's an old lovely building so can't really complain as all the pros out outweighed it.
- Sarah (7/5): Feedback from stay. - The location was excellent and the food (particularly dinner) was of a high standard. Our room offered little privacy as we were on the same level as the beer garden. Even though there was a lace curtain in the bedroom, we still felt somewhat exposed. In order to have privacy in the en suite, the blind needed to be down as the garden was very busy and you could see straight in! The decor was very dark and gloomy too. If we were to stay again, we would preferred a different room.
In addition, the parking in York is atrocious and we ended up with 2 parking fines, which as it happened, turned out cheaper than paying for the actual parking!
- Leanne (9/5): Beautiful ,quirky building - The location was fabulous very central. The staff were lovely and helpful and I loved the decor and quirkiness of the hotel. Everything was clean and tidy and the room was ready early which was great as we had travelled by train although the hotel staff did say they would look after our bags if it wasn't. Being an old building it is very creaky and you can hear everything outside. Ear plugs are provided which is good for people who are light sleepers.
- lynnegX9764UG (10/5): Perfect hotel in a perfect location - Stayed here at the Fat Badger for three nights. We stayed in room 9. There was a lot of stairs to climb but it was absolutely worth it for the beautiful room we had.,The bed was comfortable, the room was immaculate with everything you could possibly need available. The staff are really friendly, helpful and professional. The breakfast was outstanding, fresh and cooked perfectly. We come to York a couple of times a year and have stayed in numerous hotels, this has been our favourite by far. There is a bar in the hotel which had really good music and the staff, again, were excellent, so friendly. We will definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to everyone.
- Stewart (8/5): - Great location
- Samantha (8/5): - Great location lovely quirky hotel Some small cosmetic issues in room broken wardrobe and light ,room was very hot
