Erin (5/5): Great - Really great location with a good ambience Booked a deluxe double room but the room we were given was barely big enough 1 person nevermind 2. Bed was comfy but didn’t feel great value for money considering the size.

Well I booked a certain room of booking.com an when I got there they give me a box room an the view was full of scaffolding an builders that they dont bother telling you about. I payed £220 i was completely ripped off would of been better an cheaper staying in the malmasion hotel. They didnt even offer me a reduction in price or sorry about the room. If you are going to book check you can see the view an make sure you get the room you booked before turning up.

karin (8/5): We would go there again but bed only! - It was old world charm and the location couldn’t be better, just a short walk and you’re standing looking at the Minster. We had a room with a huge comfortable bed and a lovely big bath so we were happy. 😊 Mostly happy but we couldn’t get WiFi in our room so no tv either but that wasn’t too terrible. A comment about breakfast, I had Eggs royale for a treat but it was disappointing. The sauce wasn’t right and overpowered the taste of everything else and the coffee was pretty awful.

Clearly hadn't been cleaned in months hence the water wasn't draining. OK once I cleaned it myself.. Very noisy atm at about 8am onwards. Renovations ongoing at the church opposite.

Sophie (7/5): Charming hotel, small improvements - The hotel is in an ideal location, just a stone’s throw from the cathedral and in the heart of York. Friendly staff too. The bar and pub garden is charming with some delicious food. The room we stayed in was very dark and had incredibly low ceilings which was difficult for my partner who’s 6ft 2. It was a beautiful and rustic room, but didn’t have a lot of facilities that you’d expect for the price, ie conditioner or working WiFi across the space

I didn't like that I was asked if I'd like to upgrade to a minster view 2weeks b4 our stay, I decided this would be lovely as we were staying for 2 nights for my husbands 70th birthday, so paid an extra almost £100 for this. When we arrived we were greeted with restoration to the small church beside the minster, covered in scaffolding & totally covered up, so no view at all (they were totally aware of this when we were offered an upgrade as i did find out it had been going on since early 2025 & it will be going on for a good while longer) plus we didn't get the room I had booked & paid for! There was supposed to be a seating area in the room, jst that little bit extra, however it was jst a smallish sized double room, we were reluctantly offered a move which we did accept but it was tucked into the back of the beer garden with no view except looking from our bedroom onto tables directly outside the small window, we were so looking forward to staying in the Guy Fawkes Inn, but unfortunately disappointed. Do NOT pay for a minster view at the moment as there isn't one!

Andrew (6/5): Great hotel, great food and lovely staff. but - Hotel is full of character with lovely staff and fantastic food. It is in a great central location for all the sights of York. On arrival we were told we had been upgraded which sounded great. However we had been originally at the back of the hotel and were now at the front. We only slept for a couple of hours due to the noise from people going past until 2am, then traders with pallet trucks going past at 4am as the road was shut, then the builders opposite at 6.30am. We suspect the upgrade was due to someone complaining about the noise and were given our room at the rear of the hotel. We only stayed one of our two nights as we could not do another sleepless night.

IGOR (2/5): - The hotel is centrally located. It's incredibly noisy. Why put guests in a room next to an open barricade where locals drink beer and yell until 2 a.m.? Room 10 is the worst. There's no way to relax. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

The quality of these items was extremely good and im very happy about this. The location was perfect and right next to the minster which was perfect The check in process was very long winded despite completing a pre check in the night before. The reception desk was in the middle of an extremely small and very busy corridor. This became quite irritating with the drawn out check in process. Although the breakfast was very enjoyable, the breakfast host was very miserable, not helpful and not present

Our room (room 12) was directly next to the kitchen and there was a loud fan which I assume was an extractor fan vibrating loudly through the wall which disturbed sleep. Shower was either boiling or cold with no middle ground and bathroom was very tired.

Rebecca (5/5): Condensation problem, great location but wouldn’t stay again. - The location was great as it was very central. The room was next to a beer garden, which is fine but was quite noisy. The room was really damp, to the point the bedsheets felt a bit wet if we’d been out all day. There was a dehumidifier in the room, which didn’t work properly so it was really stuffy and there was condensation all around the room. There was a cracked tile in the bathroom underneath a rug (I moved this as I didn’t want to get the rug wet when getting out the shower). The hot water was temperamental and would run either cold or really hot. You could tell it needed some TLC in the room as it was quite weathered. I understand it’s an old building, but the decor felt tired and unfinished. The real issues though was the condensation/damp in the room and the cracked tile in the bathroom, as this could have been dangerous. I didn’t complain as we were only there for 2 nights and were out most of the time, but it wasn’t great overall.

It didn’t mention, when I booked a room with Minster view, that there was scaffolding directly opposite and no view! However, the room was beautiful so didn’t spoil our enjoyment. StephenKelly88 (10/5): Historic Inn In The Heart Of York. - One of the best cities you'll ever visit in the UK for historic pubs is York and on our four day trip to this amazing city we visited lot's of historic pub's and inn's and one we went to was called the Guy Fawkes Inn. It's housed in a grade-II listed building that date's from the 14th century and this place is the birthplace of Guy Fawkes who was a member the infamous gunpowder plot.Guy Fawkes was born in this historic building in 1570 and was baptised in York Minster. This building oozes old world charm and is a pub that offer's accommodation.It has a brilliant old world look and feel with lot's of interesting fixtures and features relating to Guy Fawkes (Guido Fawkes) throughout it's historic multi-roomed interior.With amazing seating option's and as befits a building of this age its apparently haunted and as this building is so old its understandable why it may be haunted. We go to this historic pub/inn whenever me and my twin brother are in York and it's still a superb pub/inn to relax and unwind and have a few beer's.They have a good range of cask ales in here and when we visited in the afternoon it was packed.We only had a few cask ales in here which where from the Black Sheep brewery which were served in perfect condition and were well priced for this historic area of York. One of the most historic places in York and a pub/inn thats well worth visiting and its a place we will most definitely go to again on our next trip to this amazing city.(This is my second review of the Guy Fawkes Inn). Opening Hours. Monday-Sunday-Don't Know.

Our room was fabulous, very clean and plenty of tea and coffee It has a courtyard and two other garden areas which were great if you wanted to be outside and all fully heated We really enjoyed our stay and I would happily return in the future

kathrine (4/5): Due to its location in central York the stay was enjoyable, outside of the room! - It was very old and full of character The view from our room - advertised as a 4 poster bedroom with a Minster view - but there was absolutely NO VIEW due to extensive scaffolding and materials surrounding it! Terrible! I was reliably informed it’s been like this for approx the past 12 months too! I assumed I was expected to pay for this view - I’ll be taking it up with Booking.com as i was not made aware of this and no discount was offered in advance. The staff were helpful and enquired about whether a discount could be agreed upon but was told I needed to speak with the booking agency directly. So I had to pay a total of £477 room only 😓😳
Richard (7/5): Very nice hotel right in the centre of York - Atmosphere of the property was good during my stay. The staff were all excellent. The breakfast was excellent, but the evenings offered a limited menu, which was not to my liking. However, the deserts were excellent. The room was lovely, it was faultlessly clean and very comfortable. Central location was great for sight seeing. I didn't like having to walk up and down thirty seven steps in order to access the room. The staff did help by taking the luggage up and down stairs. It's a very old building.

Debra (9/5): Fab location , quirky and fun ,great roof tops, comfiest bed. - Loved the location , quirkiness, and history ..nicely decorated , good balance between modern and period style. The bed was so so comfy ...we stayed on top floor ..which was fine for us , but people with mobility issues , frail ..would struggle to navigate stairs with luggage .overall amazing place for price and location . Nothing really, The pics of guy fawkes staring at you in bed are interesting
Gilbert_Chesterton (10/5): Lovely Meal - The Guy Fawkes Inn was a much improved experience from our last visit, and it really shows how much care has gone into getting things right. The service was genuinely friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The courtyard remains a highlight, such a lovely, relaxed space to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. The food was delicious and clearly well thought out, and paired with a great wine selection, it made for a thoroughly enjoyable visit. A big step up and somewhere we’d happily return to.
Irene (10/5): A great Guy. - We enjoyed the dinner and breakfast and the room was lovely. We stayed here for 2 nights- couple - in March 2026. Nothing.

Angela (8/5): Very enjoyable - The location was fab, and the room was beautiful, we stayed in room 3, very clean and comfortable, comfy bed, and the the breakfast was outstanding x We were woken at 2.45 by other guests or staff (not sure) talking very loudly at the bottom of the stairs, then the drayman thudding on the door at 6 but it's a pub so we expected that , but wow what a knock he had 😂

L5299YZlaurap (2/5): No sleep and disappointing room. - We’ve visited guy fawkes inn in the past for a drink so thought a stay in the hotel would be nice. Because of already visiting we didn’t read reviews before booking which was a mistake! I paid nearly £600 for a Friday and Saturday night in a four poster bedroom so was looking forward to a little bit of luxury. We arrived early and they let us store our luggage, both me and my partner had tried asking if they did this beforehand but got no communication back. Check in was easy and we were given a brief explanation of how to get to our room which was fine but we are used to being shown to our room when checking into a hotel. As soon as we walked into our room I realised it was not at all like the photos I’d seen on the website and we had definitely drawn the short straw!! It was absolute tiny and no where near big enough for the four poster bed (which was held together with unsightly metal) It got pretty stressful trying to shimmy round each other when trying to get to the other side of the room or use the wardrobe/dressing table. The bathroom was also tiny with a very small shower cubicle and it was in need of an upgrade! The lighting in the bedroom was really poor, there was also only 2 lightbulbs out of 4 working and it was difficult to see and get ready. The biggest disappointment was the view!! The view of the scaffolding! This is not the hotels fault but there should have been a disclosure when booking and a heavy discount as £600 even in York for that view and that room is criminal. We noticed that the window was open on arrival so decided to leave it as the room was very hot! We got in bed around midnight and suddenly realised that it was going to be noisy! We had groups walking past chanting and shouting, we had people stood outside the pub door and you could hear their conversations word for word, we had what sounded like bin lorry’s at 4am, I didn’t sleep at all and was nearly ready for packing and going home Saturday but we decided to persist and closed the bedroom window before bed. This made absolutely no difference to the noise and I spent all night awake again dripping in sweat as it was so hot and listening to the chants of people passing by and then the bin waggons at the crack of dawn. Breakfast was the best part and was cooked really well. Unfortunately the guy serving who I think might be in charge was way too miserable to be working in a hospitality role and I found him quite rude. I couldn’t wait to get home and into my own bed, I certainly wouldn’t recommend guy fawkes inn for an overnight stay unless you’re a heavy sleeper.

westcoastcol (10/5): Steak Pie - I'm drooling thinking about it - This will be one of the shortest reviews I have ever written, Steak Pie and mash, it is the best I have tasted and serves plenty choices of real ale, go and give your taste buds a treat.
Glynis (10/5): Very memorable once again. Have stayed there several times! - The location, friendly staff, cleanliness and the history/quirkiness of the building are all brilliant factors to stay at the Guy Fawkes Inn! All good!
Stephanie (6/5): Lots of character but not the most comfortable. - Great location. Very full of character and ambiance. Can see the Minster right out the windows. We had the suite on the top floor, room 14. There was a VERY musty smell to the place. They should seriously consider scented diffusers. The towel warmer didn't work. Unable to get the radiator heat to work. Portable, electric heater was broken. The shower leaked and soaked the floor. Very limited supply of hot water. The toilet ran. Many low ceiling areas; hit our heads a few times.
Tracey (8/5): Excellent, loved the central location, the room was comfy and very atmospheric, as is the Inn itself - atmospheric room, excellent breakfast, good service better wifi - radiator wasn't working however there were two additional heaters which kept the room nice and toasty
