Guest Reviews
- Jardinier (7/5): -
- Dreamer14055728880 (10/5): Hidden gem - Mahogany Hall was an absolute dream — serene and peaceful, perfectly nestled on a beautiful tropical river that was ideal for swimming and relaxing. The natural surroundings created such a calm, rejuvenating atmosphere.
The food blew us away every single meal — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. One of the most memorable luxuries was the bathtub overlooking the lush jungle, offering a unique and indulgent way to unwind.
The staff were wonderfully accommodating and attentive, making us feel truly cared for throughout our stay.
Without a doubt, Mahogany Hall is our favorite hotel experience ever, and we can’t wait to return!
- amypZ1697WU (10/5): Mahogony Hall - Wonderful Stay! - I honestly can't say enough good things about this resort. First of all, it was just stunning. The restaurant/bar area, the room, the river...all of it. We rented the double family suite which was amazing for our family of 5. It was a bedroom on the main floor with 1 Q bed and then upstairs was a loft with 2 additional Q beds (and a full bathroom in each.) The resort is small so we were able to chat and get to know some of the other guests, which was fun. The staff was also amazing. There were two days where we had early excursions and we were able to message them our breakfast order the night before so it was ready for us the next morning - couldn't have worked better. I was wondering if the location would be an issue - it absolutely was not. It was refreshing to get out of town each evening, but it wasn't a long drive (10 min maybe) - I do think you would want a car though if you stayed here. All in all, we couldn't have been happier and were sad to leave. Would 100% recommend this resort to anyone!
- V3380PGsuzannej (10/5): Unique property that felt like "home" - Off the beaten path but AMAZING STAFF and incredible river views. Very comfortable stay. I was suspect about the bed and pillows (a little bit squishy) but we slept like a dream after a dip in the pool and a homecooked (by the staff) meal. The AC was top notch and large bathroom. Thank you for providing in room water. I should have taken better notes as the staff was amazing and took impecable care of us -we LOVED the food - some of the best meals we had in Belize. Thank you for allowing us to take a 2 hour breakfast. I believe Jose took care of us the first night and Jadee in the morning. You couldn't have made us feel more welcome or comfortable! This was like staying in a private home with family.
- Martha (4/5): I was disappointed, I fell cheated out of my money and I mention this to hotel via what's app and verbally. - The staff were really nice. The room was spacious. Big tub. The pictures of the property are misleading. What you see is not what you get. I got sick the first night because I don't eat pork and if you cross use utensil then I will know it. I ended have to eat at restaurants and going out when I didn't always want to. The hotel is way over priced for its location. And there are no amenities except the pool.
- lcount (6/5): Beautiful but… - This property is very small and charming. Situated on the river it’s so calming and lovely. We ate dinner and breakfast and the food was wonderful. The people were great and service top notch. The room was sweltering on the top floor with vaulted ceilings. There was air conditioning but it wasn’t turned on ahead of time in anticipation of guests. It took many hours for the room to become comfortable. It was sweltering outside and the room was hotter. I’m sure there were other rooms that could fit 3 adults that wouldn’t have been so hot or at least turn on the AC ahead of time. Finally, although there were very few guests the manager didn’t greet us upon arrival, departure, or anytime. As beautiful as it was, I wouldn’t stay here again.
- corrieo644 (10/5): Worth the drive!! - Mahogany Hall was one of the best parts of our entire 16-day trip to Belize!! The rooms we booked were very comfortable and clean with some Beautiful Welcoming touches and Spa like Zen, they included everything we needed.
It was great to open the windows and hear the animals/birds on one side and the sounds of the river on the other side, it was so calming and peaceful (no issues with bugs/mosquitos). Being on the Mopan River made for Amazing Ambience [whether that was enjoying the balconies, exploring the grounds/area, enjoying wonderful meals in the open-air cafe/dining area (all the meals were great, but the breakfasts were excellent), enjoying beverages/snacks at the bar, on the deck, in the hammocks or by the pool].
Even though there is a pool, we really enjoyed swimming and cooling off in the clear refreshing waters of the Mopan. It was a special treat to swim with, meet, get to know and hear about hidden gems from the friendly locals/families who frequent the river area on weekends/holidays (It is public access along waterways in Belize. If the public access is a concern, it shouldn't be as it quiets right down at dusk)!
This is a Boutique hotel with a very small number of rooms where you can be as social as you choose with the other guests (we met some amazing people from all over the world sharing stories of adventures, travel tips/tricks and even sharing rides and meals in San Ignacio).
Marsha and her Team were Amazing and went out of their way to make sure our trip was Amazing!! They were available in person and on WhatsApp to guide/help us, they booked taxi's, shuttles and excursions (with local long-term people/companies they are comfortable with) and even checked in on us and making sure we made it safely to our next destination and enjoyed the rest of our trip.
We loved getting to know Marsha and her entire Team and left Mahogany Halls feeling like Family!!
We will definitely be back!!
- Mckenna (10/5): Amazing resort! - This resort was stunning. It was all open air in the lounge area. You pre select all your meals which makes it so convenient! The bartender that was on site was so friendly. The pool and dining area over look the river which was so fun to go down and swim in! The rooms are so pretty with tons of windows to open up and see the view. Obsessed with this place!
- Jodie (8/5): - Nice small resort on the river. It has a restaurant & bar offering breakfast, lunch & dinner (dinner options limited). They can arrange tours, we did 1 thru them & it was good. It's not in town but within 10-15 minutes, so if you want to go to dinner in town you'll need a car. We had an issue with air conditioner that they fixed right away even though it was Good Friday, had to jiggle with toilet a few times to get it to work & 1 entry door would only partly open. There weren't many bugs, but with no screens on the windows we couldn't even leave them open a crack to listen to the sounds of the river & jungle.
- easternw2025 (10/5): The Easy Button for this region of belize. - This place is top notch. We rented the whole place for a two night family trip. Everyone is super friendly. The food was some of the best I ate our entire time in Belize. The pool and the river access are unbeatable. Mahogany Hall set us up with a great guide who picked us up from the airport, shuttled us around both days, and gave us an amazing tour of the Xunantunich ruins and a cave float. Mahogany Hall was really the Easy Button for visiting this part of the country, they took care of everything. Finally, Marsha, who runs the front desk and the person I corresponded with in planning the trip, was very responsive and super friendly. Stay Here!
- tomsL2092JY (10/5): Warm and welcoming - Small, quiet, homey place that feels genuine and welcoming. We stayed in a suite that had plenty of space for my wife, myself, and our kids, ages 14 and 11. Marsha and her team are attentive and thoughtful. The food was consistently excellent—we had three dinners and three breakfasts, and all were delicious and filling. Jose makes a top-notch rum-and-coke. The Mopan River borders the property and provides a great place to swim as well as some natural background noise. This place isn’t new and shiny, but it has tons of ambience and delivers a great experience. Would highly recommend. And ask for Edwin if you’re looking to book tours of the area!
- Z8526VScindyb (10/5): Beautiful!!!! - Can’t say enough good about this treasure in the jungle! Hand made beautiful furnishings, fresh tropical flowers in each room. Flower petals on the bed. Delicious breakfasts! Marsha and staff were the icing on the cake❤️ So warm and friendly and sincere. Felt very safe. Sad to wave good bye.
- Stacy (8/5): - Very beautiful view and setting. Service was excellent. The whole hotel was always very clean.
The only thing that we didn’t enjoy was the bed. It was a little soft for us but we like firm mattresses.
- Erin (10/5): - Beautiful property. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Quiet, out of the way hotel.
- terrynP2081VE (2/5): Horrrrrible guest service - We showed up from a recommendation of a local, we walked in at 1:30 PM. The bartender said they had no food so we said we would like to order a drink. He said OK and walked away and helped somebody else for 20 minutes. We still sat there he looked at us occasionally but never asked for our order.. So we had enough. We know how to be treated because we own restaurants this GUY and the whole staff were horrible. The place looked like it had a lot of potential but the service and congeniality was the worst I have ever experienced!!!! For one they need to get their act together.
The bartender and whatever else he did needs to be fired!! There was a beautiful lawn by the river not one chair or lounge chair or anything down there! It was like it was the off-season for them, but it was the end of February 2025 that’s peak season!! I will never go back there!
- ThemaGDV (4/5): Amazing view of the river but some bad points if you unfortunate and end in room number 3! - Probably just got an unlucky room. Lodge is really pretty on the river and with a beautiful view. People that work there are nice and really welcoming. Lodge is far away from San Ignacio city center so you need a car or a taxi to move around. There is nothing around so only options will be to eat there if don’t have a car or take a taxi. Price are a bit high for the food but good quality. Why two stars? My room, number 3, was really really small. AC was super loud so you couldn’t keep on in the night. WiFi was super bad. I couldn’t stream or take a work call. Finally the mattress was completely probably broken and making sounds every movement.
- Michael (8/5): - The staff was excellent and the property was beautiful.
- Henri (10/5): - This is a beautiful property by the river. The classic mahogany decor was wonderful and the location a place to explore. It was a little far from town, which might suit many people. We had only one night there, I wish it were more.
- Katharine (10/5): - Kindof expensive, but beautiful location and rooms, amazing food. Marsha is amazing! She hooked us up with a local guide for solo tours and she mailed our shoes back to us that my husband left in the room! 10/10 would recommend. Jadie served breakfast every day and was super sweet and helpful too.
- Amartinezac (10/5): Exceptional -
- nicole (6/5): - It was a beautiful location, rooms were big and beautiful, staff super friendly.
The wi-fi did not work well, horrible water pressure, very loud ac in rooms, and very limited dinner choices.
- VISHWAS (10/5): - Property is well maintained. Very safe area to live but has limited options for vegetarian meals. Staff is very kind and treats every guest as their family member. Please do not use bar service for only kid’s juice as they charge the service fee of belezian $12 per order (just came to know after check-out). Provide daily turn over service
- Jason van den (6/5): - The staff was very attentive and helpful. The location could be better. It had nice open air dining area but diesel exhaust from the traffic while eating was not enjoyable.
- Nick (8/5): Nice place, not good location, some trash on property out side around building. Need transportation - NA
- M. (3/5): Poor -
- Edith (10/5): Wish I could go back! - The location was amazing, peaceful and beautiful views from balcony. The staff were great, especially Jose…he made our stay very special and was fun to talk to when we were relaxing at the bar! Nothing
- Eileen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christina (10/5): Memorable. - location, slightly off the beaten path, small and personal, attentive staff and view of the Mopan river at first the reservation for eating but once I got used to their operation loved it and appreciated that being a small operation away from the hustle and bustle you can’t have all American comfort and thats okay.
- Kristen (10/5): Exceptional - Service I didn't like how they try to over charge you
- Coker (9/5): Enjoyed this serene and peaceful property with great staff. Just what we needed. - Staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable and peaceful. There was an issue with our original room and they happily upgraded us at no cost to make sure we were happy. Appreciate the customer service! Nothing.
- Gina53 (6/5): Pleasant - As with all hotels there are pro's and con's. The hotel was located in a peaceful location on the river. The restaurant was overlooking the river. The outside grounds were well maintained. The pool was small but clean. My husband enjoyed riding the inner tubes down the rapids. The staff were friendly and accomadating. Good breakfasat menu. River views from the shared balcony. The hotel is located aproximately 15 minutes from San Ignacio. Going into town was a 15 min taxi ride. THe hotel required making a reservation for Breakfast and Dinner otherwise the wait was lengthy. This was inconvienent esp when doing tours The dinner menu was limited and expensive. We stayed in a Queen delux room. The room would benefit from some updates such as new towels, shower curtain, window curtains to make it more cheereful. The air conditioner was a wall mounted unit. Unfortunately it was loud and did not consistently cool well. Staff were informed however AC unit continued to provide minimal cooling during our four day stay.
- pinnacle-project (10/5): Personal attention in a beautiful setting - Mahogany Hall is a small facility with only eight rooms. Because of the small size, the staff is able to give personal attention to every guest. We talked to Marsha, Jose, and Amelie every day. We knew each other by name and over the week we were there, they learned our preferences. This would never happen at a mega resort.
When we were first planning this vacation, we considered staying in Belize City and then booking tours from there. When learned of San Ignacio, we decided it would be a better "home base" for our vacation. This was an excellent decision.
While we thought of this location as San Ignacio, Mahogany Hall is actually a couple miles away in the small village of Bullet Tree Falls. We found the village charming and the residents to be very friendly. One day, we walked over to a nearby football pitch and watched the kids practice their skills. Initially, the kids did not know what to make of these two strangers watching their practice but they quickly got used to us and they too were very friendly.
To help simplify our trip, Marsha (Mahogany Hall manager) booked all of our tours for us through Edwin's Belize Tours. Most of the tours were private tours and fully customizable. The ATM tour cannot be a private tour due to government restrictions. We were okay with that because we like to meet new people.
We had breakfast and dinner at Mahogany Hall every day. We loved their food. There are also good options in San Ignacio which is a short taxi ride away.
I would highly recommend Mahogany Hall to anyone traveling to Belize. The staff is fantastic and there are plenty of activities to keep you busy. If you prefer to relax, the sound of the river is addicting.
- Beverly (10/5): Gorgeous hotel with excellent service - We felt so welcome and pampered at this gorgeous resort. We were greeted and helped with our luggage, the Staff took care of our meal orders , grabbed extra towels for our excursion, made beautiful drinks. The rooms had a lovely view of the river and the sound lulled us to sleep. Gorgeous spot!
- Jan (8/5): very nice place to explore the surroundings - Great location on the river
close to at least 3 Mayan temple complexes
tubing and swimming in the river in front of the hotel
large room
great food and service the restaurant had a limited menu
you would need a car to get around
- Tinnecha (10/5): Exceptional - The location, the viewsthe service and value of my stay was exceptional amazing for my birthday trip the best hotel! Imagine waking up every morning with the view and sounds of the river
- Q25EXkellys (10/5): Romantic spot. - My husband and I loved the place and had dinner every night during our stay. The location is remote and you will need a taxi every time to go to the city (12 minutes away) $20 belizian. Pool is cold and refreshing and service is great. Very romantic spot. The room has a strong wood smell.
Would come back.
- Théo (5/5): Too expensive for what it is, this hotel needs renovation - Plus: Nice building by the river, the hotel has a lot of potential. Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Good breakfast with many options. Cons: Nice old building, but the hotel needs renovation. Our room was dark and very basic, the mattress was not comfortable, we were expecting a higher standard for the price. Also, there were only two options for dinner (no vegetarian option) at an expensive price ($25 and $50 USD per person for a main dish). Finally, the hotel is located at the end of a dusty road, which was not an issue for us but worth mentioning.
- Jernigan (9/5): Terrific find! - Wonderful location on the river, lovely staff! The hotel was so helpful to arrange great tours and rides for us. We loved watching the animals on the property and really enjoyed the food there! Highly recommended!
- Lucia (5/5): Beautiful old building and friendly staff, but needs renovation and is too expensive - The hotel has a lot of potential, as it's in a beautiful old building, right by the river, with a beautiful (despite small) garden. All rooms have a view of the garden and river from the veranda outside the room. The staff tried their best to make the room and duvet tables look nice by decorating it with flowers. Staff was friendly and helpful. The Pol was small but nice for a plunge. The whole hotel needs renovation. The rooms are very dark and small (we stayed in the standard double). For the price, I was expecting a lot more. Dinners were really expensive (25 US dollars per person) for what we got: one course. Food was gone made and good but super simple for that price.
- Shelia (8/5): One and Done! - The room was clean and comfortable. The beautiful, decorated towels on the bed and in the bathroom were really a nice touch. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. It was nice to have a restaurant and a small gift shop right down stairs in the lobby. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and definitely, the only reason I would stay there again. I also liked that it wasn't to far away from the Mayan ruins. I was very disappointed with the location. It was smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Most of the main attractions of the country were about 2 hours away from the hotel. The rough rugged road to get to the hotel was horrendous. Parking was a little up the road. So, you had to walk down the very rocky road through the dust to get to the hotel. The car was very dirty because of the dust that was produced by driving down the road.
- Dan (9/5): Superb -
- sixmcgaheys (10/5): Such beauty - We loved our stay at Mahogany Halls. The landscape and the river are prettier in person than in the pictures. The sound of the rushing river is so relaxing. The service is fantastic. It is calm and peaceful and a great place to retreat to after a full day of adventure. Our room was kept very clean every morning after we left for the day. We ate dinner there one night and it was good. The only negative things I found was that it was expensive to eat and drink there and the rooms do not have refrigerators. We had no way to keep drinks or food cold while we were there. But that doesn't really take away from how wonderful the place is. I highly recommend it.
- Mcclendon (10/5): Quaint and comfortable. The mahogany furniture and architectural accents make this hotel a jewel. - The wonderful restaurant and Bar serves fabulous fare. The weather could have been better but even with the river rising it was still a wonderful experience.
- cassandraaR9653DG (10/5): Amazing! - This was my favorite place we stayed so far! Jose was very friendly, kind and a pleasure to talk with. Amelie was very intentive and always made sure we were prepared for our day. Rooms were clean and fresh sheets/towels daily. Food was delicious as well and we had an awesome view.
- cassrenz (10/5): Charming - We stayed at the Suite@Mahogany Hall, which is run by Vacasa. We were able to book a private, guided tour of Tikal, through their concierge service, which was great! The large suite was clean, beautiful and the canopy bed, very comfy. The staff was attentive and very welcoming. The restaurant/bar was nice and we appreciated having an early breakfast ready for us, before our 7am departure for Tikal. We had only booked a couple of days and wished we had booked a few more, to take advantage of the charming Inn and river tubing. We enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again in the near future!
- Marie-Alexandra (8/5): - Un havre de paix bien au calme en bord de rivière proche de san Ignacio
- A7271SAlaurences (10/5): Charming place - After our stay in Ambergris Caye we headed to Western Belize and we are thrilled to have chosen Mahogany Hall near San Ignacio. It was a unique and beautiful place with a back drop of the pretty Mopan river. Service was outstanding in every way.
- karlyew2023 (10/5): Beautiful surroundings, tranquil sound of the river, well kept hotel - Beautiful little boutique hotel set along the river. Staff do a an excellent job of maintaining property, from the gorgeous grounds to clean rooms and comfortable beds and linens. Would definitely stay here again if I return to the area.
- Quest777701 (10/5): Great spot in San Ignacio - Thanks to Jose, Amelia, and all the staff, for making our stay at this beautiful spot even more special! We spent 4 nights here, and had breakfast and three of our 4 dinners here, as well. The food was delicious and the service was always kind and friendly. Just sitting in the pool or on the deck, looking out over the Mopan River, was a delight. We were visited by both Toucans and Kinkajoo. What a lovely visit.
- Daizedoc (10/5): Beautiful riverside hotel - We were very well taken care of at Mahogany Hall.
It is a small hotel, with maybe seven rooms, so careful attention is paid to every guest. I received several messages before arriving from the concierge in order to plan any excursions we might be interested in. We did indeed: a trip to Tikal planned and paid for before we even landed; so easy! We loved our breakfast and coffee made to order every morning.
The other guests were very friendly and shared some stories of their own travels in the beautiful country of Belize. The food was delicious, the drinks well made and the beds and pillows were comfortable. We most definitely recommend this property and if we return to this area again, we will stay here.
- Erica (10/5): - The Staff was absolutely Amazing! They made the BEST food, were extremely accomodating for helping to set up activities, and allowing us to have breakfast whenever we needed to start our day. Area was very peaceful, and pool was very refreshing.
- Andrew (7/5): Nice enough hotel and clean - Breakfast was ok but choices for main meals in the evening were limited Location wasn't great as it's 3 - 4 miles out of town. It's approx $10 - 15 US in a taxi to get to / from town. Swimming pool didn't appear to be clean.
- NickA949 (10/5): Mahogany Hall Hotel - A Great Place to Relax and Explore Mayan Ruins - We arrived mid-afternoon to be greeted by Jose who took us to the bar and while filling in the paperwork we enjoyed a welcome cocktail. The hotel sits on the Mopan river and all rooms have a 180 degree view. We opened the door to our room to find “Welcome to MH” in flower petals on the bed - what a lovely surprise. Similarly at dinner, Jose writes messages in petals on the tables. While dinner was one of two options, we were never disappointed. We could have taken a $10 taxi into St Ignacio, but we enjoyed the food so much - including seeing kinkajous in the trees at night, we could not get motivated to leave and night after night we saw the same guests so we were not alone.
Marsha is the manager and runs the place with complete calm efficiency, including organizing our trips with Edwin’s Belize Adventures (see related review). We were thankful the MH survived COVID and while it is fair to say that some of the furniture could be updated, Jose, Marsha and the other staff were the stars.
- Shammah (2/5): - Absolutely gutted on our last night of a 2 week tour i simply wanted to treat the love of my life to an amazing stay, no greeting as we walked around looking for the front desk, AC in room was not working and the "technician" would be back ... requested to upgrade and the best room they had got flooded above our orignal room which would be why the smell of waterlogged wood was extremely present. Staff really honestly didnt give 2 f**** which isn't even up to expedias standards.
- Blair (10/5): - Great place, sound of the mopan river, al fresco dinning, beautiful
- Edlin (10/5): great location amazing staff - location is great 15 min from town.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful hotel and drinks were awesome. It was a very peaceful hotel. My complaints were the cleanliness of the pool and the bed was uncomfortable.
- savannah (10/5): - 10/10 would highly recommend! Beautiful
- Rose (10/5): Mahogany hall - Excellent retreat out of the way. The bed was a bit hard, staff was great. Food was good, the only thing i could say needed upgrade was the wifi. Only in the common bar area and not very good.
- Melissa (10/5): - Very nice boutique hotel. Remarkable views, unique architecture, clean, and very friendly staff. Loved the firepit, seating along the river, and the pool with a view. Great breakfast options.
- Linda (8/5): great location! - We only had 2 nights but the location on the river is wonderful, the room was very nice and clean with very comfortable bed. We didn't eat there.Very quiet.
- Richard (10/5): A gem for relaxing and enjoying Belize - What a gem! We were a little concerned initially with the location being somewhat on its own down a dirt road (not near other hotels). However, it was a nice location, very relaxing and peaceful. The staff was amazingly helpful, taking care of anything and everything. They also made all the arrangements for our excursions. And getting a car to take us into San Ignacio for dinner at other restaurants was easy too.
This really was a special place to stay.
- Emma (10/5): 10 out 10! - The people who run this hotel are top notch. The food was was wonderful. The setting is insane. We swam in the river every day. We watched movies on lawn chairs under the stars. The beds were cozy and always clean. For just a little more Marsha was able to upgrade our room and Jose was very helpful too.
I can’t say enough about the natural environment. We felt safe and at peace the whole time. We spent half our honeymoon here and loved it. This was the best location to see ATM and go cave tubing. The hotel staff booked us a new fun adventure each day. They found us the best guides. Yes it is a little outside San Ignacio (10 min drive) but why not be some place pretty and see toucans in the morning! What a lovely and perfect way to see this part of the world. We hope to be back soon.
- Nicole (10/5): Stay here!!! - This place is a little off the beaten path, but it is a total GEM!!! It is gorgeous! The staff was amazing. Jose is the inn keeper and he is totally fabulous. You are welcomed with a cocktail and it is delicious. They have this cute little bar area where you can enjoy cocktails (or mocktails). A beautiful deck where you can have a candle lit dinner every night (which is delicious). This is the best place to stay hands down. We didn’t have a car but if you book any excursions through Maya walk they will do a courtesy pick up, or you can take a taxi pretty easily I’m sure. We will be staying here anytime we are in San Ignacio. You should stay here because won’t be disappointed. I love mahogany hall!!
- emmtee (10/5): - best staff on the planet! gorgeous view of Bullet Falls River, excellent facilities, comfy bed.
Da findet man kaum Nachtruhe. Die Matratzen sind leider etwas zu weich. Das war etwas unbequem. Sehr ruhige Lage. Etwas schwierig zu finden, aber sehr hübsche und romantische Lage am Mopan Fluss. Sehr nette Bedienung. Vor allem Jose an der Bar. Essen gibt es immer üppig.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a nice and comfortable stay. The view of the river was amazing
- Adriana (10/5): Pure magic - I can’t beieve how gorgeous this place was. I felt like it was rather magical. Unexpectedly in a middle of a residential neighborhood, right on the banks of the Mopan river. I went down by the river to sit with my welcome drink and there were fireflies !! The service was impeccable, the staff was very kind and attentive. The attention to detail was really superb. We had a lobster dinner and it was also impeccable .
- Michael (10/5): Secluded river-side getaway - Lovely resort along the Mopan River just outside San Ignacio in Bullet Tree. Excellent food and coffee on site, and very comfortable, air-conditioned rooms. The road leading to the resort is unpaved, so make sure you have the right kind of transportation, but this is a nice spot to get outside the main downtown area for a lovely escape.
- Nerisusan (10/5): - It was a over all a lovely place to stay and conveniently located to most excursion such as the one for Tikal. The ambiance of the place was classic and romantic. Truly loved being so closed to the river and secluded enough to be at peace.
- Pamela (2/5): Don’t Trust this hotel or its Owner!! - We had confirmed prepaid in full reservations for this hotel Easter weekend. The hotel called me the day of Check-In and told me we no longer had a room because the hotel owner decided to stay at the resort. This was after we paid for transportation to the hotel. We had to get transportation back 45 min to another area and scramble to find a last minute place to stay. We ended up paying substantially more for the second hotel. Neither Expedia nor this hotel offered to help. In fact I’m on the phone having to fight to get back my original payment for the room they cancelled. Disguisting behavior by this hotel any time but especially Easter weekend. We ended up having to change hotel rooms because we could not find a single room replacement accommodation. Would never recommend Mahagony Hall.
- hannah (10/5): - Great spot, delicious food, fun excursions and wonderful staff!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Mahogany Hall Boutique Resort - Very beautiful place to relax and being away from the city . The only thing I didn't like was the internet is not so great. But everything else was fabulous.
- Amy (10/5): - Mahogany Hall is a real gem, tucked away down a dirt road away from town on the banks of the Mopan River. If you want seclusion and a place to relax from the busy city life, this is your place. The rooms are very spacious and well appointed. The 4 rating on room comfort was only because the air conditioning unit was not working during our stay, but with the windows open and ceiling fans running we had plenty of breeze and could hear the roar of the Mopan River, which put us right to sleep. The staff are amazing - very friendly, gracious and attentive; they all go out of their way to make your stay that much more enjoyable. Marcia spent time with us every morning at breakfast and in the evening when we came back from our adventures. Jose was the best bartender and server. Josef and Maria cooked us fabulous meals. We had great conversations with all of them and left the hotel feeling like family. We will definitely be back.
- louis (10/5): - Nice quite place next to the river
- megan (10/5): San Ignacio home base - Beautiful, relaxing, secluded hotel with excellent service!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a really great experience at the Mohagany Hall. Had a little bit of a hard time finding it but we were driving in a lot of rain and after dark. The staff and food was outstanding. Best coconut pie I had in Belize! Wish the weather had been a little nicer so we could have enjoyed the river a little more. Great place to stay and highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Peaceful retreat - Mahogany Hall is a great place to escape and enjoy the sounds of the Mopan River.
- Paul (10/5): - This is a small boutique hotel with very friendly staff willing to help at every turn. The location is beautiful along the Mopan River (which is great for tubing by the way). The hotel is a bit from San Ignacio, but you generally aren't there to go to San Ignacio anyway - you are in the area to see the amazing tourist spots that are in the general area. We had breakfast at the hotel which was solid went out on a tour for the day and then returned for rest and a great dinner made by the staff each night. The room wasn't huge, but we didn't need it to be and everything was of great quality, in great condition, and very clean.
- Normajean (8/5): Call before you go. - The real problem we had was that we were informed as be boarded the airlines to heard to Belize that there was a wedding reception going on the first night. ..we had flown for 3 houses then drove 2 hours to walk into a reception of at least 200 locals...there are only 8 rooms so it's a little hotel. We where told there was no food available so after all of our travels we had to jump in to a taxi, pay 20.00 us and drive into town to eat...when we got back we had to lock ourselves into the upstairs and listen to music as loud as any club in New York City till midnight there time...our time was 2 am. So I really think they should have blocked the rooms, gotten us a room somewhere else the first night. That's just smart business. The rest of our time was fine but you have to either have a car or plan on spending money every time you want to go somewhere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place. Only issue is that it's far from town. Must call a taxi for everything.
- robert (8/5): Charming small hotel nicely situated on the river. - Staff was great, helpful, friendly, worked hard to make it a good experience. Food was excellent.
Loved the setting on the river. Somewhat hard to find, out of the way. Down an unpaved, very bumpy road. Have to take a taxi to town. Would stay there again if going back to the area.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice bed and breakfast in the San Ignacio area. Served as a great basecamp for the inland excursions we began our Belize trip with. It's only a 10 min, $10 cab ride to town which probably gives it a leg up over the other accommodations in the area. Be ready for a bed and breakfast experience though, this is not a resort.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Very uncomfortable experience - When researching this hotel it seemed to be filled and people staying there. We had adjusted our trip to be able to get a room here as this place seemed in "high demand." Little did we know when we got there we were the only guest for 3 days. It was kind of creepy. We were put in the smallest room they had (next to a suit which was unlocked) maybe an upgrade could have been offered since we were the only guest for 3 days. There was a strong chemical smell in our room. We were assured their cleaners were all organic. We asked for that not to be used. Sure enough the next two days it was. Also, the hotel advertises a "restaraunt" but you can only order what the chef is cooking that day. No lunch options or if you want an appitizer throughout the day. There was a full breakfast menu. The directions to get there are well... No where, had to stop 3 different times and ask locals, of which who never heard of the hotel. Only the area...we ended up checking out a day early of which they would not refund our last night. Also when we got back in the States we were overchsrged $100 on our final bill which is my fault for paying. We were charged $430/BZ and I was charged $330 US on my bank account. The money ratio is 1 US to 2 BZ. I have attempted to get this back and have got no response from the hotel. One of the owners/chef seemed to linger around during meals and uncomfortable conversation. Luxury is not how I would describe this place. Stay in the Cayes or Placencia.
- Nam (8/5): Fantastic Resort near the river - Our small group was looking for a nice resort to hang out and relax inland in Belize for a few days and Mahogany Hall did not disappoint. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful, giving us tips on things to do, booking transportation and tours, and telling us great stories about Belize.
The river about 20 steps from the hotel. I recommend bringing water shoes and spend the day drifting along the river in an inner-tube with a beer.
- kaitlyn (10/5): Relaxing escape - Mahogany Hall was a beautiful small hotel located on the Mopan River outside of San Igancio. The food was amazing! We ate breakfast and dinner at Mahogany every night during our stay. All food was cooked to order with each individual guest's tastes in mind. It certainly lived up to the rating of #1 romantic resort. They even set up romantic tables along the river with messages written in fresh flower petals on the table. The staff was helpful in arranging transportation and excursions, including our amazing trip to the ATM Cave. They also dropped us off up the river with tubes and Belikins so that we could float back to the hotel. I highly recommend Mahogany Hall to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.
- Daniel (10/5): Beautiful river setting - Extremely pleasant location on the river, about 3 miles from downtown San Ignacio. Mahagony Hall is for people who want easy access to town but do not want the noise and activity of staying in town. The hotel is very service-oriented.
- Rob, Wife and Friends (10/5): MH is a destination, not just a hotel. Relax here. - Prepare to be pampered on a beautiful river bank of clean, clear rushing water (or spots of tranquil if you please). The staff was outstanding and thought of everything. The location a bit remote, but facilities clean, well done, and outstanding. Food was over the top as was service. Ask for plantain-crusted fish or anything you want (in advance). Cook knows his stuff! Relax in the pool or river. No mosquitoes in Bullet Falls. See my review on Trip Adviser.
