Guest Reviews
- Kithalex (2/5): Worst place I have ever stayed - no exaggeration! - Last weekend me and my girlfriend booked these apartments on a last minute decision. Other places were full so we were happy to find this place. We figured out afterwards why this was the only one available. We went into the lobby around 7pm only to find the receptionist listening to music on his iPhone and earphones plugged to his ears. He wasn't native Cypriot so we spoke to him in English, which he barely knew either. He gave us the keys to the apartments after we were told to pre-pay. We left our things in our flat and went for dinner, not giving any attention to anything inside the room. After we came back we noticed that the bedsheets and the towels were all used/dirty, the curtains which were right next to the beds were also dirty. The toilet and bathtub seemed to be not cleaned for the past month and there were used contact lenses left out under the sink mirror, from the previous people staying there. The room was cold and the a/c was not working. The was not strong enough to reach the 3rd floor that we were staying. When we told the receptionist all this, he came to change the bedsheets and the towels, telling us that probably the cleaner did not pay much attention. That was his excuse! He also said that apparently the a/c does not work in this specific room and the WIFI only works in the lobby.
This was our worst ever stay and I recommend that no one ever stays there again. Just a heads up.
- Eleni (10/5): - Excellent location! Very friendly staff.
- George (6/5): - Uncomfortable beds and noisy area
- JeffC1348 (2/5): A must read if staying at the Valana Hotel Apts - My partner and I stayed at the Valana from 5th September 2017 for 2 weeks. We had stayed here before about 7 years ago and loved it. We was looking so forward to it. On our Arrival first impressions were good ,reception looked clean and well looked after. We was lead by one of the brother who owned the hotel, to a Block called "Block A". This was where we knew we had made a mistake booking this hotel, the grounds out side Block A looked in disrepair, we was shown to our room were on entering we was very disappointed, as the first thing we saw was there was knobs missing off cupboards, on further inspection, the kitchen sink was grimy and the taps looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months. The fridge had dirty finger marks on the outside and needed a clean on the inside. The utensils in the draws looked used and unclean and the floor hadn't been swept. Entering the bathroom was the most shocking. The shower cubicle was broken and had no door on it, the shower unit it's self looked ancient, again the taps were grimy. In the living area were two settees, both had holes in them. The television was very old and you could only get 4 channels that you couldn't tune in properly, though they do advertise cable channels. Our apartment was a one bedroom. On entering the bedroom was just jaw dropping. Once again the Cupboards had Knobs missing, the air-conditioner unit was half hanging off the wall. The bed sheets had holes in them and the pillows looked liked someone had been slobbering all over them. With in 20 minutes of walking around the apartment we decided to complain to management. At reception a young lady told us there would be no other room available till the next day and she assured us we would be able to move rooms. We stayed over night in the room and was woken at 7am by work men working opposite our bedroom window on a building site. On their website it says all rooms have black out curtains and sound proof rooms which our curtains and rooms certainty was not. In the morning we returned to reception and was told by one of the brothers "a room will be available after 4pm that day and to come back any time after 4pm". We returned again round 5pm to reception only to be told by the father who is the owner, that we were to late and that the cleaners had all gone home. After a discussion the owner gave in and abruptly gave me a key to another apartment. We entered our new apartment and was pleased. It had a nice size living area with air-con. A two seater settee/sofa bed. Another old Tv, this one had 10 channel with only 1 English channel. In the kitchen, though we was bed & Breakfast was very disappointing. In the cupboard was 2 cups, 2 saucers and 2 small glasses. In another cupboard was just the one plate. The knives and forks were clean but the draw they sat in was badly stained. Two of the wardrobes in the bedroom had broken handles, but the safe inside the wardrobe was very good and a nice size. Maid service, there wasn't one except when they bought us towels that looked liked they had been already used. The room was never swept and there was popcorn and other bits on the floor that was there for the whole two weeks we stayed. We had to keep asking for toilet roll and at one point we had to empty our own bin and ask for a new bin liner. In the hallway, where we placed our bin bag in hopes the cleaner would take, was a a settee that people had to pass to get to the lift, which would cause a health and safety hazard if there ever was to be a fire. There was a so called wheelchair ramp made out of wood and was badly in disrepair, which had nails protruding out and looked very unstable. The pool area was the worst I have ever seen, the pool was a green colour and you couldn't see the bottom in the deep end. Some of the sunbeds were disgusting. The ones with blue cushions on had dirty Staines and bird poo on them that was never cleaned. There was a girl who came out every morning to move the sunbeds back in to position, but not once did she clean them and she just turned cushions over that had bird poo on them. Stray cats were all round the pool area and were always using the bushes behind sunbeds as there toilet and causing a lot of flies around the area that kept buzzing and landing on you The only times we saw people cleaning the pool was when we found out to our surprise that there was a wedding arranged that we had no knowledge of on a Saturday night. The wedding started at 6pm and went on till 1am. The music was so loud we could hear it clearly in the room with all windows and doors closed. The following Saturday we got up and sat on the balcony for our early morning tea when vans started showing up. We watched as they started to set up a stage in the pool. Once (AGAIN) there was another wedding that we had no knowledge of. We asked the owner what was going on and he told us it was his daughters wedding and that the pool area would not be in use for the day. The music started at 2pm and went on again till 1am. So if you see the pool being cleaned expect a wedding. We will never be returning to the Valana again, which a shame as it use to be a lovely hotel which has now gone in to ruin since new ownership.

- susano239 (2/5): Approach with caution - We booked last minute and were looking forward to a nice relaxing holiday. We double checked the room had air con at reception and were told yes. We were shown to the lift at the bottom of the block and left to find our room from there. The room was large and spacious with a good sized kitchen. We dropped our suitcases off and went out for the day. When we came back we checked the room out fully and can only describe it as a filthy pit. The mattress and bedding was stained, the floor hadn't been swept in quite a while and the bathroom was in a poor state of repair and hygiene. The cooker didn't look like it had ever been cleaned and the kitchen consisted of 1 saucepan, a couple of plates and half a cutlery set. First thing the next morning I went down to complain about the state of the room and question the air conditioning that was blowing out hot air. I was told the room would be cleaned and the air conditioning would be checked. When I came back later that day the room hasn't been cleaned but they did collect the dirty under wear found under the bed. The air conditioning was working exactly the same. During the stay someone opposite decided to bring a dog into their room which bark most of the night. Couple this with the urine smell that we couldn't source or get rid of and needless to say, we will never stay here again!
- MarTee959 (6/5): Reasonably clean, decent location, but..... - Cons:
1. Location is understaffed in evenings. The hotel is quite large, and there is one man working the front desk, assisting with check-ins, dealing with guest complaints, and the like.
2. Our first night we had no air conditioning (a must in summer!) We changed rooms and the 2nd room also had no AC. No other rooms were available to change a 3rd time. We had a nice breeze at least. Happily, our complaint was noted and repairman came early next day.
3. Housekeeping is limited. We booked through Expedia and it was advertised as daily housekeeping. Not true. Housekeeping comes once every 3 days.
4. Beds are uncomfortable. Our poor backs!
5. Lighting is very poor around exterior and corridors. There are switches to turn on lights temporarily, but this is annoying.
6. Rooms are a bit beat up and worn, but reasonably clean.
7. Wifi is available in the room but very slow. Best to use wifi in reception and bar area.
Pros:
1. The cost. Extremely affordable.
2. Large rooms. We had a 2 room suite, with a kitchenette, and balcony. (Note that AC is only free in bedroom. To request AC in sitting area/living room, it costs extra.)
3. Good location. Easy walk to dining options to include American fast food as well as local bites, as well as nightlife options.
4. Free parking. We did have a car to explore outside of the area.
5. Quiet.
- ArturE34 (2/5): Worst Hotel in Cyprus - Bad service, dirty rooms,no cleaning service at all during whole week.No working wifi in building 3.I think pool was only one good thing in this hotel but most of the time it was occupied by local cyprus people because of the law, they can use all open pools in whole city. Never come back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel - The hotel was clean and very good. The location was good for me.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Low priced & functional hotel close to the center - Nicely located hotel/pension in Limassol. The condition of the hotel isn't the best (for example the pool doesn't welcome you for a swim and the showers by the pool are broke) but it's low priced and functional.
- Seeni (4/5): Never Again - The room was dirty. The fridge disgusting and the bathroom unbelievablly revolting. Bath had mold all around it and the shower curtain was covered in black mold. Outside on the balcony just dirt all over.
- ReecesMum (2/5): Cheap & nasty - Having booked this hotel as the majority of trip advisor reviews were ok, I feel I should post my own recent experience. I arrived at this hotel last week with my husband and 5 year old son. First impressions on entrance were good, reception area looked clean. We were shown to our room with no info on breakfast, room service, general rules etc.
There were 2 rooms, one living and kitchen area and one twin. A bathroom was attached to the twin room and a balcony lead off from the living area. The third bed was a bed settee in the living area. The kitchen consisted of a fridge, 2 ring hob and basic cutlery and dishes. The living area initially looked clean however on further inspection it was far from it. The bed settees were both stained (and later on in to the stay I found a flea on one), the seals of the fridge were covered in black mould. The curtains had been half eaten by something so there were holes in the black out lining. The bedroom windows were filthy and the frames were caked in dust and mould. The bathroom ceiling was covered in black mould, as was the shower curtain. The shower head was covered in scale and biofilm. The toilet seat was broken and there was dirt round the base of the toilet, the toilet brush was completely unusable (I can't even describe what it was covered in).
Our first couple of days the weather was bad which meant there was no hot water (water heated by the sun). When the shower did work (I cleaned it myself before using), it leaked all over the bathroom floor which meant we had to use the towels to dry it. It turned out room service was only every 4 days so we had to wait till then to get new towels!
The 2 single beds were ok. The bed settee was terrible. My husband and myself had to share sleeping in it so we both got a good nights sleep. It was one that you just fold down the back and because it was worn, the seat part was lower and softer than the back bit so the bed was on 2 different levels, neither of which was wide enough to fit a person on.
The swimming pool was filthy. On the 4th day they cleaned and refilled the main pool (but not the baby pool) however the following day a floating scum appeared round the edge of the pool. On the 6th day they appeared to put some chlorine in the pool as I assume they were getting ready for the new season (we were visiting out of season). We found an immaculate pool just over the road at a place called Tycoons. They charge €3.
We only paid approx €25 a night for our hotel however I know that the prices shoot up during the holiday season. Personally, if I were a family, I would not touch this hotel with a barge pole however for a group of young lads who don't care about cleanliness and just need a place to crash this place would be ideal.
- Irina (2/5): - For almost the same money you can find x 10 better place. this one has 2 buildings - one is mega old, the oldest and poorest i ever stayed in. the other one has no wifi at all and has no available rooms. So i moved to another hotel and paid twice. The reception guise was very good people, but it couldn't change the fact this place is a bad bed place. Old, dirty for years furniture, poorest blanket ever, 1 charge point in another room, no bed side light, no TV, cold water, bad bed.
- Brian (8/5): Fair value, close to beach - I stayed here for a week. I found the apartment to be worth the money for the most part, being that it is just down the street from the beach.
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK apartment - The hotel is locate close to the main avenue (and the sea) where you can take a bus to go to the city centre.
The apartment is old but quite spacious and it had a nice balcony overlooking the garden swimming pool. On the negative aspect, cleaning was the most negative aspect of it with the duvet having big stains on it. Also the pots and kettle seem quite old with scale/sediments on them, so I didn't use them
- Marios (8/5): Convenient Location - The apartment block is located in a quiet neighbourhood at the back of the tourist area of Limassol. There is ample parking space and lovely garden views from the balcony.
- ramd2013 (6/5): very good location, friendly staff - This hotel is good, in the best area of limassol. few minutes walking to the main street where there is the bus station and the beach. the WiFi signal is very good at the restaurant and the reception but average in the rooms. the food (breakfast) was normal. the room is big with everything you need in it, AC working so good. The pool is OK, not that big but nice. the only thing to be taken was the house keeping was not as expected; changing the towel, tiding and cleaning the room was not on a daily basis (i mean it was done but not every day). the staff there were so friendly and helpful.
- Evangelos (10/5): We enjoy the accomodation - We had a great stay in the hotel.
- T3417MCjohng (10/5): amazig place for a holiday - room is quit good as a 3 stars or more hotel
location perfect @ the middle of the tourist area
very nice stuff , family run business
private parking variety of room types
3 swimming pools
quite good area
- J552GQgeorgek (2/5): worst experience ever. - been to the hotel for a night-stay and been through hell. no hot water, filthy bathroom no running water, tv not working and freezing temperatures. all these for the special price of 80€ per night for a double room!!! I wonder how they have license to work.
ps: a gift in our bed drawer.
- 760mikei (8/5): Value for money - Good location for your weddings celebrations for parties and other events.Enough space next to the swimming pool for more than 1000 seats.Prices are reasonable.
Recommended for people visiting Limassol for a few days for fun or business.
Close to the shops and the sea
- TUDOR (8/5): Valana self catering apartment - Stayed for 10 days in self catering apartment. Facilities were basis but acceptable.
manager and his son were very helpful.
excellent large swimming pool
I would return
- DemetraAdams (4/5): Helpfull staff very bad rooms - The room was in a very bad condition. Lack of sockets. They never changes the sheets the 4 days we were there. We were on a school trip and i wouldn't reccomend it for a such trip. In other rooms we found coackroaches, a broken sofa, windows and doors you could not lock, dirty sheets and other bad things. But the staff was very pleasant to fulfill our expectations and the view was good. Renovation is needed.
- Phil and Jeff (6/5): Good location for food drink and bus - We wanted cheap, clean, safe accommodation and this is what we got. The apartment was cleaned 5 days out of 7 - no service Sunday and the Monday. We asked for more pillows, blankets, table for the balcony and mugs on our first day - it all arrived the same day.
Wardrobe space and drawers were severely limited. It was just about adequate for us, but quite difficult.
- petrosk76 (4/5): Wouldn't suggest it - Not many things to say. The only good thing was the swimming pool with exception the filthy sunbeds. The room was very poorly maintained with holes on the bedsheets, which in the 5days of staying were never changed, the electricity plugs were broken with plastic tape to prevent from using, the water faucet was filed with water salts and there was nearly no flow. Looked like since it was built in the 80s, never anybody did something to maintain it in good shape.
- CYVoyager (6/5): Very poor despite good location - The apartments are convinietly located a few hundred meters from the main tourist searoad. However this is not good enough to offset the cockroaches, non-flushing toilet, door handles falling apart and century-old bedsheets. Our friends stayed in the newer building across the street, which was a bit better but pool there wasn't clean.
- RoverB (6/5): Good helpful staff shame about the rooms - We went to stay for the weekend while we attended a christening nearby. So given that we would spend little time in our rooms a budget hotel seemed to fit the bill. All in all for the money it was only just acceptable. The public areas, pool and bar were fine and the staff particularly helpful. However the bedrooms are barely adequate. Although reasonably spacious and air conditioned, they are in urgent need of refurbishment. The shower and bath were old and did not look too clean. The furniture was also tatty and in need of replacement. It is all in the detail and the standard is just not good enough in these competitive times, even at a budget price.
- RavenPlatty (8/5): Bargain hotel, easy access to main routes and beautiful Island!! - Let's get straight to the point, this isn't the "best" hotel you will ever stay in, however, it is fantastic value for money, and the location is perfect to be able to get out and about and see the rest of the beautiful island.
Most people who have been to Cyprus, travelling from the uk, will know, Cyprus tends to come under the higher price bracket!! We got the Valana at a great price, and were even happier that it was half board.
Valana is located just off the Limassol main high street, with fantastic links to the local motorways. It was run by a family who were very friendly and helpful and always happy to help! The hotel itself was a 3* however, had most of the amenities that you need from a hotel. The Valana was in need of a re-vamp, which could be mistaken as dirty, but if you look closely, everything was clean and tidy and our room was HUGE! The room had a large living area/kitchen, bathroom, double bedroom & small balcony over looking the pool. We have friends & Family who live in neighbouring towns to Limassol who regularly came to visit us and stayed on the sofa's which converted into beds. So as you can see it had ample room. We had hired a car too, which we were able to park in the hotels car park. The pool was large and contained, with a bar & restaurant on hand. The hotel has very little night life, but this was fine for us as we were happy to go out. This just made the hotel quiet and peaceful at night.
Prior to going, we had read some negative reviews, where some had complained about the locals using the pool area during the hours after 2. This is true, and the pool area does fill up, but we rarely found this a problem as there were always loungers available or the beach a small walk away.
Being half board was ideal for as you could go and eat up until 8.30pm. You were able to have breakfast & a main meal in the evening, but if you missed breakfast and asked nicely, sometimes the owner would allow you 2 switch this for a mid day snack. The great thing with the food was it wasn't in a buffet style, there was a menu. This meant you could pick exactly what you wanted and not worry it had been sitting on the hot plate all evening! This food was no where near 5* standards, however, it was more than edible, tasty and in fairness, similar to the things you eat at home, so I don't understand sometimes why people just moan when the food was fine!
Having never been to Cyprus before, we were open to where we stayed, but would prob say we wouldn't want to stay in Limassol again. Limassol, despite being located right on the coast, is still a City, so was a little pricey in the bars and restaurants and usually rammed with locals which can be a little intimidating. However, if you shop around you can find some great deals! As a rule of thumb, if you shop like a tourist you will pay tourist prices. Think like a local and you will search out some real hide aways and treats! (Big Ben's on main strip, just passed Nando's has great food, with a huge menu and is only 16 euro's for a 3 course meal and a glass of local wine! BARGAIN!)
We hired a car for the duration of our holiday and would recommend everyone does this! We were really able to explore the island and find some beautiful deserted beach's and spots to sunbath!! Along with this, we were also able to see some of the hot spots in Limassol, all of these I would recommend a look at - Ayia Napa for it's crystal clear waters and sandy beach's & for the lively it's great night life - Coral Bay for its sandy beach, although it does get a little packed!) - Aphrodities rock - Amphitheatre - Chris Blue & Lady mile beach - Ship wreck off Ackrotiri base - Limassol old town for it's traditional shopping - Nicosia town centre, be it very warm - Famagusta ghost town view point.
- Betty-Spaghetti-Rob (6/5): Mixed Feelings - but more good than bad - I am starting the review saying what type of person I am on holiday as I think this will help the review. I go on holiday to relax but also to do the odd sight seeing and also try the local food and traditions. I also dont mind what the accomodation is like as long as it is clean in a good location & has a pool & balcony. I also like a holiday that makes me feel that i am abroad not in england. Therefore out of what I like on holiday the Valana has a lot going for it.
It is in an excellent location. In the middle of the tourist area but a few minutes walk to the main road so therefore is a nice quiet area. It has a lovely big pool with a bar which also serves food. Food was really nice & an average price for Cyprus. I would say an average of 6 to 7 euros a meal (snack meal ie burger chips, ommlette & chips). Local larger which is Keo or carlsberg 2.50 a small one 4 a large one (euros & large was not quite a pint but I did hear someone say if you order the large one inside the hotel you did get a full pint) I think frappe's were about 3.50 (euros). People are correct in saying others & locals use the pool but this did not bother me as you always got a bed & they didnt arrive until after 1 in the afternoon (why go on holiday if you dont want to be with the locals!!!) The sunbeds were mostly white plastic ones with a nice blue cushion on them and there was plenty of umberellas, tables, seats if you wanted them. There was also a nice shaded area next to the pool bar.
Moving onto the next bit - the room - this is where I have mixed feelings. The rooms are really big especially if there is only 2 of you. The living area is large with 2 settees (where if there is more than 2 the others would sleep), you have a table with 4 chairs & a kitchen area with a 2 ring cooker, a fridge, a toaster & a kettle. We dont ever cook anything on holiday so the fact the rings & kitchen appliances were dirty didnt really bother me (ie i would not of used the toaster as quite bad) The fridge was ok it did freeze a lot of our drinks if you put them near the top of the fridge but this was good as if you took a bottle of the water to the pool it stayed cool all day (as well as getting drinks at the pool we also drank our own water & even though signs said you couldnt have your own food & drink nothing was said to us about our water). Also in the living room you had 2 big patio doors which led onto the balcony which was quite big. We really liked the balcony as it overlooked the pool & was nice to sit out on a night & have a few drinks before we went out. The only bad thing was it was never swept by the cleaners so by the 2nd week of our holiday it was covered with dead flies and ants etc.
In the bedroom there was a few ants when we 1st arrived they were around the patio door area, after i bought some ant spray it was ok & no more appeared. Also in the bedroom there was 2 single beds next to each other - they were clean & clean sheets were changed quite regular - some cleaners fitted the top sheet some didnt - the pillows were soft which I like. Towels I thought were basic but were clean & once we realised you had to put them on the floor to get them chnged they were changed whenever they were put on the floor (we did have some days where no cleaners came to the room though) The wardrobe was really big but it did have broken handles. It also had the safety deposit box in here. There was also a dressing table with a chair in the bedroom which was also great to use & get ready (also a mirror & a single plug socket)
The bathroom was the worst bit of the room & this is where i have mixed feelings - I think all the fixtures are probably from when the hotel was built which i would say was quite a while ago - it is very 70's but I cant say when it actually was built am just guessing. The good thing was it did actually have a bath but the bad thing was it was filthy & the same for the toilet & sink. The toilet was so bad it had fur in it & I had to go & buy a bottle of bleach to sort it (as did people in the 2 next rooms). The bath was beyond getting clean I think - as was a glass shelf above the sink. The sink also took ages to drain away and because of this you had to be careful when brushing your teeth. The shower was in the bath with a lovely 70's shower curtain - the curtain was very clean though. You did get used to the bathroom however but I could not of used the toilet until I bleached it as it was really bad. This makes me wonder how it was so bad as I cant believe anyone else would use it like this!!!!
So overall for the room I would say it was a really good size but It is the cleaners who are bringing the hotel down & do not pull their weight - ie why dont they clean the toilets/ bath/sink? why dont they sweep the floors in the room/balcony?
The air conditioniing was a must when we were there as it was over 100 degrees every day. We got air conditioning for 2 weeks at 70 euros & the safety deposit box for 20 euros. The air conditioning had 2 units - one in the living room & one in the bedroom. They were really cold & the best we have had anywhere. What was really good too was when you left your room they stayed on so for the 2 full weeks we had non stop air conditioning so we definately got our moneys worth.
I have definately stayed in worse 2 star hotel/apartments & to me the only thing wrong with the valana is the bathroom & floor cleanliness (and the odd ants). other people may also say the kitchen stuff but I go on holiday to have a holiday and eat out (however the prices in cyprus now may mean you will need/have to use the kitchen)
We found the owners & their sons really nice & friendly & we had no complaints there. The man who worked on the reception on a night was also very nice & friendly.
Some info on around the hotel. I cant say limassol is lovely - we made the most of it & did have a good time but its not pretty and to me it didnt have a holiday feel about it. The beaches arnt nice, you have no nice view as the resort runs through a dual carriageway with building on both sides of the road so you dont even see the sea. I would say it is the dual carriageway what spoils limassol as it takes away the holiday feel away as there is loads of traffic and lots of people who like to drive very fast on it. There is cheap bars ie 2 euro a pint/cocktails but for me they were too english. The nice trendy bars as i would call them were nice but on average 8 euros a drink. (even 4 for a basic coffee) There was quite a few coffee bars too which seemed to be where all the teenages went - these were also expensive but always full.
Food in Limassol is on average £13 euros a meal, there was set meal places too which were about £15 euros for 3 courses. We didnt ever go for one as the size of the meals were so big we could only eat 1 course. I actually would of prefered smaller size meals at a lower price (i then would of probably also had a started ot desert). The best meals we had were at a place called The Thatch house. What was lovely about this place was it was set in a sort of garden style surroundings & it did actually make you feel like you were on holiday (limassol itself made me feel like i was in a city not a relaxed holiday village) The food was really good examples of prices were about 10 euro for mousakka & 18 euro for a steak, also 10 euro for a kebab or a meze plate for 1. To find here you come out of the hotel go left then 1st left again the restaurant is about 100 yards on the left side of the road (its actually on the back of the valana pool bar if this helps - not attached but behind it)
Supermarkets were close to the hotel one just opposite the above restaurant - they wernt cheap though - 2.60 euros for a large pop or tonic etc and about 3.50 for 6 large waters. I was also quite amused that there was a bitish legion club opposite the hotel and the hotel also had a line dancing night on a mon & thurs for english people who lived in limassol.
The old town is also worth a visit this did make me feel again like i was more on holiday. There was some lovely restaurants nad they were also a bit cheaper (apart from the fish one we went to where we picked a fish from the fridge - didnt realise until we got the bill but the fish itslef cost us 60 euros - we learnt our lesson there). The bus to the old town is 1 euro 50 and the last bus back is 10pm. The 1st taxi we got back was 17euro so again we learnt a lesson and always asked for a price before getting in. After that we paid 10 to 12 euros for one. The bus stop is on the main road turn left - cross over the dual carriage way & it is outside a large hotel - you wont miss it as its a bus shelter with seats. Bus's were about ever 10 to 15 mins.
Other things that may help are trips are loads cheaper doing them yourself - ie the troodos mountains was 75.00 euros each with the rep - doind it ourselves 10 euros each. You get a bus 9.15 outside the tourist information every day (turn right on main road & is opposite bar called malibu - about 10/15 min walk from the hotel) You come back 3.30pm. (we wished we got off the bus at the 1st village though as troodos there is not much there)
I hope this review helps as i would like to think i have done it fair. (also we did only pay 400 each for 2 weeks away)
Would i go back to Limassol - no but i dont think i would go back to Cyprus either - it is very expensive now & also too commercialised for me. As before though we did have a good time so dont panic if you haved booked here unless you are a very fussy person.
- belfastlauren (8/5): Great for the price! - My freind and i are just home from the Valana Apartments. Limassol is gorgeous and there is so much to do. We loved our apartments, the living room and kitchen area was really big, the apartment was basic but really clean. The only bad thing i would say about the apartment was that the toilet seat was broken and the toilet didnt look very clean. However, that was just our apartment, in other apartments the toilet was fine!
The pool was massive and very clean, people came from other apartments to use the pool because it was the best in the area. The family that own the apartments are lovely, they are so helpful and made sure that we were having a great stay. the reception and bar was open 24 hours, this made the apartments feel really safe.
- AndyTraceyW (4/5): ok if you don't mind cleaning your room . - This Hotel could be very good .. the rooms are a good size and have all you need , however we stayed from the sat to sat and didn't have any clean towels till the thursday and the one's we got I wouldn't have dryed the dog with ! more holes then towel .. then there was the bathroom that looked like it hadn't seen a clean in years , now I'm not one to write in the review each time I go on holiday but I think this needed the be said to all you that have booked this hotel .. I know its only a 2** + but come on Valana do you think we go on holiday to clean ??
- SP46 (8/5): What nice people run this hotel - We would really like to reiterate everything said by the last reviewer. We also travelled with Olympic/Eurocypriot and found the service from them very helpful - Stephanie was just as described, regularly there and took an interest in what we were up to and was able to provide advice when needed. Booked a car through her for 4 days and were able to travel around and see some wonderful sites - good location for travelling around just a few minutes from the Motorway.
We were also advised of the No.30 bus which ran regularly along the main road into Limassol Old Town and beyond for a standard fare, whatever the distance, of 1.50 Euros.
What we found particulary nice was the friendliness of the hosts - it is a family concern, husband, wife, 3 sons and 2 daughters + cleaners, waiting and night staff - all were extremely helpful and quite chatty, especially dad and the 2 eldest boys - this served to make us feel very at home.
Despite the regular rush of locals to the pool we always managed to find a suitable spot with sunbeds and umbrellas at the poolside and the pool is great. Mr Demetriou said that if people didn't like the pool when it got busy they were welcome to walk up to the newest block which has a smaller pool but is only for residents.
- Liss246 (8/5): It really isn't that bad at all.. - First off, i can tell you that this is going to be long. So i apologise for the length. But i want to say that I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED my holiday. There were things that irritated me, but i would definately go there on holiday again.
Also, Yes..the Valana is a 2 Star hotel - many people I spoke to over there claimed they didn't know this, but if you actually look at your holiday details it does tell you this. If you want a 4 or 5 Star hotel, then go and make sure you've booked for one and pay the price for one. (Sorry, Rant over..back to the review)
I stayed here at the beginning of July for 2 weeks, a package holiday with Olympic Holidays and Eurocypria Airlines.
Upon arrival, we checked in and went to our room. (Number 131 - 3rd Floor) We did have slight trouble opening the door but realised we were making it much more complicated than it was. After this, I had a good look around after reading previous reviews and my only complaint is that I think they need to check the cutlery as one of the forks was bent and you couldn't use it but it wasn't really a big deal if i'm honest. Apart from that, the rooms were fine - some people moaned about their showers being slow etc. but ours was fine. In my opinion, an additional piece of kitchen equipment would be handy as there is only a 2 ring electric cooker, but we ate in mostly for 2 weeks and managed absolutely fine. (One family we spoke to also had a toaster but it didn't work) Also, the rooms are slightly dated but we just laughed it off. (I refer you to the photo of the shower curtain!) The air conditioning is 5 euros per day. We thought this was a bit steep so we managed without it, but only just as the weather is absolutely boiling. The Safety deposit boxes are in the wardrobe and are 10 euros a week. Please look at the pictures when i have put them up regarding the rooms and message me if you want to know anything else :)
The pool area was relatively normal, plenty of sunbeds and umbrella's, then there is a baby pool and a main pool with a shallow and deep end. Something i didn't like is towards the end of the day the locals are allowed to come into the pool so on weekends, it can get pretty busy at the pool area so if your planning on doing any excursions, weekends would be the best time. You don't have to pay for the beds or the umbrella's either and the pool area is open from 10am - 7pm.
The Valana Restaurant is nice. Nothing special, (2 star hotel remember!) they have a range of things on the menu varying between 5 - 8 euros. I had a Jacket potato with cheese and ham (bloody huge potato!) for 5.50, you can get a cheese and bacon toasted sandwich and chips for 6 euros, and a cheeseburger and chips for 7 euros. They had more things but we ate in mostly although the breakfast and dinner that we did have there was lovely.
This is probably the one thing that i really didn't like - the prices in the Valana itself..very expensive. A normal glass of coke was 3 euros. Yes - 3 euros. If you go out to restaurants etc it was about 1.80, 1.90. The ice-creams in the Valana were also 3 euros, however if you go out of the Valana and turn left and walk straight down the road as if you were going to the main road, on the right is a supermarket and they have a huge selection of well known ice-creams (Magnum, Cornetto's, Ben and Jerrys) at much better prices than the Valana. (We paid 6 euro's for 2 plain Boss ice-creams at the Valana but only 4 euro's for 2 double caramel Magnums in this supermarket.) Crisps at the Valana were 1.50 but they were slightly larger than normal packets of Walkers/Lays so this isn't really expensive.
As we were self-catering, had to go shopping, if you have a car - go to Carrefour, about a 10 minute drive away or Orphanides about 15 minutes away. If not (like us) then don't go to the supermarket around the corner, it is quite expensive compared to if you go further along. You can get a 6 pack of 2 litre bottles of water (from the same place as the ice-creams) for 3 euros. Bottles of pop ranged from 2.20 euros to 2.80 euros, depending how far you go. As in the way of food goes, dont go to the closest place, because that is where it is most expensive go for a further 2 or 3 supermarkets, theres absolutely loads around just go to the main road, turn left and look up each street. This way you get a feeling for the prices and what is good value and what is not. If you like your english brands then we got these: Smash mash - 1.40, Hellmans Mayonnaise - 1.80, Flora Butter - 1.45, but in the shop around the corner it is 1.65. (I know you may think that 20 cents isn't a lot, but if you think like that for everything it soon mounts up. If your worreid about the cost of food, shop around dont just stick to one place) Piz Buin suncream - 9.50.
Last of all, I have read here that Olympic Holidays are awful, this is not true. My experience is that they were brillant, we saw our rep everyday (Stephanie) she was well informed of local knowledge and was happy to help with any problems or concerns. Olympic Holidays were ready and waiting for us at the airport, the Welcome meeting was great, as i said during the holiday our rep was always there, and then on the way home there were reps everywhere at the airport. No complaints about them either, am actually thinking of going with them again next year.
I think thats all, i would like to say there are THREE Valana apartment buildings, each one is slightly newer than the other because you can see they have expanded through the years but you definately do not need to walk past ''building sites'' You get dropped off at the original Valana apartments, which is also the Pagoda Restaurant (Im not sure if they use these apartments, i think they just use the two newer blocks) and you walk through a small CAR PARK which holds about 7 cars to the Valana..no building sites at all?
Honestly, i don't mean to offend anyone, but i really do not see what people are on about. This hotel is good, yes it might be basic but it is 2 star.
I think thats enough, take a look at the pictures once they go up and please feel free to message me about anything else :) Hope this helps!
