Guest Reviews
- Bronwen (8/5): - Was a quick but comfortable accommodation with all necessities available.
- Laremy (10/5): Surprised - Was very surprised with this 1star hotel Brand new room and good breakfast 500% better than their counterpart at Cape town Airport
- David (8/5): - So convenient! But st the end of a dark deserted road so felt i could not walk there after dark.
- dereksA2991MA (2/5): Worst ever experience!!! - I have been staying at your facility since 2008. I have never felt so humiliated as today. I went down to your restaurant facility at 20:30. I waited for 20 minutes while people coming in after me were served. I eventually left. This was my last visit. Regards. PS, I am leaving a day earlier than my booking.
- Jan (8/5): - Inside was brand new.
Some noisy guests on my floor. Som group or conference
- Verified traveler (10/5): A good nights stay - Comfy, Clean, Modern, overall a good budget hotel with nice amenities.
- Percy (8/5): - Very good
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really loved this experience low cost GREAT service.
- Khalaletso (8/5): - Good
- Seaside06429412571 (6/5): Simply not worth staying at Road Logde - N1 City (Cape Town), 2nd time to try offer redemption but never again!! - Brand new renovated place with non-working air conditioner, works for a short bit and shuts off with an error.
No toilet brush in the room so hygiene and cleanliness is problematic.
Person in the room over the passage smoking marijuana, I reported it immediately and managent just spoke politely to the people to not do that and that's it. I was offered a breakfast and room change just in case it happens again, opposed to enforcing the non-smoking policy, let along smoking marijuana in the rooms. Poor management of that situation.
Security guard is your only way in and out, when he is available, he does an OK job, but when he goes for a walk, you will be left sitting outside or locked inside until he returns. Rather frustrating to get in and out.
- Roelene (2/5): - The noise levels until 3am in the morning was horrific ! When I approached the Manager the next day I was told the security was outside. Unacceptable ! That was my 1st and last stay at The road lodge. You lost a client who spread the word to other possible clients who.
- Maria (10/5): Coming back - The hotel was amazing. Receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Shopping cemtte fik the vicinity with everything you may need.
Rooms are good size, very clean with amzong confortable bed's amd and linen.
Parking his harder towards late evening however they always try to park yoir car
- Verified traveler (6/5): Road Lodge shocker - Chaotic reception
- Cheryl (10/5): - Great
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The upgrade to the property looks aesthetically pleasing but is functionally lacking
- Vincent (8/5): - Ok
- Kennedy (8/5): - Proximity to the airport and shopping mall
- Adele (4/5): N1 City Lodge - I’ve stayed there numerous times but this time the receptionist (namely Olga) was unfriendly and just complained the whole time about going home.
I arrived early at 13:30, and she was on the phone for quite a while. She then said check in is at 2 and no rooms are ready, so I happily waited in the dining area, understanding that I had arrived early. After 2pm she said there were still no rooms available. The next shift arrived at 2pm, and Chloe took over after hand over. There was immediately a room available and I then checked in around ten past. Chloe was friendly and efficient.
The hotel is under renovation and noisy during the day but that’s not an issue at all for me. Other than that, the room was perfectly clean and my stay was enjoyable, and I will stay there again.
- Gary (8/5): Good price Good location - Location suits us and very affordable
- Derrick (6/5): - Having to book online and have to wait 2 hours until out booking will be received by the hotel is ridiculous on top of that the receptionist did not try hwr outmost best to assist but rather tell us we need to wait for 2 hours to gwt booked in. We had to chat to expedia to assist and even with that it was a mission
- Brian (8/5): - The staff was great especially Chloe. Always prepaid to help and advise. I stayed for 11 days and have met most of the staff including cleaners and they were all excellent. Maybe a small bar needs to be added for guest to socialise and chat more
- 763tessad (10/5): Great stay, good value for money. - Helpful, friendly staff, clean room, good breakfast, quieter than expected being so conveniently close to CT airport. Arrived exhausted from UK,leaving the next morning refreshed. Thank you to all staff for a great stay! Will be back next time.
- Letanie (10/5): Wonderful - It was a wonderful stay , the staff was exceptional, and the food was yummy, the room was comfy,I will be back!
- Verified traveler (6/5): old travel-lodge style - We stayed out of necessity for 1 night due to flight issues. Room was clean but AC does not work. No elevator, making it difficult carrying luggage up 2 flights of stairs. It was OK overall for a very short night stay. Remindd us of the old outdated travel lodges. We wouldn't stay for a holiday.
- Vincent (8/5): - For the price point, it is fairly good.
- Zamokuhle (8/5): - The road lodge met my expectations which were budget friendly, clean and convenient location. What could be improved up is the check-in time frame we waited for quite sometime and the door to my room was a little faulty so with every push attempt it looked like i was doing something i wasnt supposed to be doing.
- Coenraad (8/5): - Clean, friendly, breakfast spread ample and of good quality. Checking in was quick
- Viola (4/5): - All I didn't like was the cigarette smell came through the Walls or the toilet. It was unpleasant being next to a room where people are smoking. I booked a non smoking room and that's what I got so disappointing.
- Kim (10/5): Superb Accommodation! - Amazing stay. Clean, convenient, friendly, great location, friendly and helpful staff. Would easily stay here again!
- Mluleki (8/5): - My stay is always perfect there.
- Mishkaah (8/5): - Awesome 👏
- Jan018 (4/5): Stink of smoke - Affordable, decent, amenities ok. Stinking of smoke though. Lobby, stairs, smokefree room. Everything. Gross. Wife in hospital next door, quite a bit of trauma, so don't have the energy to try and do something about it.
- Janine (4/5): - Not amazing at all. Too small and too compact. No bar fridge which really make it very inconvenient. Too pricy for what it offers. Very deceiving No utencils??
- Shaun (6/5): - Both my partner and I both picked up a stomach bug. Did not dine, but when we checked in they said they were ‘deep cleaning’ the rooms, so I can only imagine that this has something to do with it. May have missed our room.
- mewjelanemccann (8/5): Cheese and wine surprise on Valentine's day 2023 - Dear Road Lodge N1 City Management and Staff
My husband and I had a very delightful evening last night, at your establishment. Thank you for giving us the best treat we never dreamt of(picture attached). You are one the most amazing staff contingent we have ever met!
Thank you for your time and gracious hospitality. It was such a fantastic place for us. Thanks again for doing everything you could to make us feel at home. We will definitely recommend you to all our friends and acquaintances.
Yours sincerely,
Ricardo and Nicolene Marcus
- Vivienne (2/5): - The place was dreadful. It stank so badly that I had to wash even our bags when we got home because the smell had impregnated everything. The toilet floor was sticky. There were pigeon feathers on the floor. The double sleeper couch was a pile of stained cushions. The other guests on our floor were noisy till late.
This was Not the hotel I asked to be booked into. I was under the impression that I had been booked into the Airport lodge. I was not the only guest lied to and turned away from the airport lodge. I suspect that some VIPs or some such were pushed in when we were pushed out. The service I have received from Hotels. Com and the city lodge group is disgusting and I will never use them again.
- annaliend2016 (8/5): Conveniently located and affordable. - I visited this hotel twice during January 2023. It is centrally located near a big mall, close to the airport, and close to Grand West casino. Don't expect anything luxurious. Just good service and convenience. Staff is friendly and helpful.
- Timothy (10/5): Timothy Adonis Family - It was pleasant and comfortable. Staff was amazing and always friendly and helpful day or night.
We were treated like family. From the front desk staff, cleaners and security.
- Ellis (8/5): Pretty good for the price. - Shower needed a good cleaning of the grouting , joints and corners.
I was surprised by the fact that pitching up and requesting a room was priced at 19.2% higher than booking from the car park, 5 minutes later. And they still have to pay the booking company comission.
- Dumisani (10/5): - It was great , hassle free
We enjoyed our stay
- Dreamer62360141691 (10/5): The easiest Nd most efficient booking service - The service from front desk has been the best I've received from a establishment in a very long time. The staff is second to none. I will always recommend this place to my family and friends from now onwards
- IAN (10/5): - the stay was excellent, staff attentive and friendly and helpful. just had an issue at one of the nights where one of the security guards wanted to scan my drivers licence disc where no one else asked for that over our whole stay. he tried to get the reception lady to explain things to me and i told both of them that he has no right wanting to scan my drivers licence as he does not have the authorty to do that
- Siziwe (2/5): Unhappy client - I have a bad experience with the lodge,it’s administrative work,I’ve tried to call them several times,so that i can change my booking dates to the following week end, because of work and nobody responded, tried to leave email msg but to no reply or response,I’m not happy at all,as a result i won’t book again,it’s the nearest lodge and it was not for the first time for me to book there, but i didn’t expect what happened,my money went down the drain,i would have been booked for another day,so i don’t know if i book again and something happens again,i was not asking for refund but to shift the days,so I’m disappointed and very unhappy
- Mary-Jane (8/5): Value for money - Clean room, comfortable bedding and helpful staff.
- Constantine (8/5): - The team was a bit slow on responding to the orders and breakfast I couldn’t get my hot tea though a mild one came much later
Otherwise it was a decent stay and place
- Martin (8/5): - One Small soap for 2 guests, not enough
- Casey (8/5): - Was pleasant. Friendly staff at reception desk.
- Sandra Anne (10/5): Good service, well priced - As we just needed a place to sleep this lovely hidden gem was perfect. Close to shops, restaurants and within airport an Cape Town . Very comfortable, clean and the staff are helpful and friendly. Good service all round will definitely be staying there again.
- Thuso26580 (2/5): Worst experience ever - We were book 3 nights and hotel presented us one menu for 4 days the food was not appetizing (we had not option as they were forcing us to eat same thing everyday , lunch ,dinner was same thing , staff is very rude . As you enter the main entrance theres bad smell , we had to remind house keeping to make-up our rooms .
- annaliend2016 (10/5): Clean and good value for money. - Value for money. Very clean. Friendly staff. Ask for a room not facing the hi way. Delicious breakfast. Staff walk the extra mile for guests. Centrally located near the mall. Close to Grand West casino. Very good security. I will definitely stay here in future. Highly recommended. Very strict Covid protocols in place.
- L (10/5): Service 100% - Amazing
- Zachary (10/5): Just Great!!! - Everything was great , people , place and environment.
- Lulama (10/5): - Excellent
- Isabel Lorraine (10/5): Awesome - Very good, all staff including the security very friendly and helpful.
- Sibusiso (10/5): Perfect - My stay was Super
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Thanks for a very pleasant stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Do we blame Covid - Did not have much interaction with staff except at reception. People has maybe just become unfriendly due to Covid
- Hilda (8/5): Amazing - It was amazing and front desk staff professional and efficient since my booking didn't pull through fro. The third party yet
- Roberta (8/5): I see why they’re a 1 Star. - It was a good stay. As a result of renovation work at our home we moved in for about a week. The day staff were very pleasant but there was one lady in the evening that rarely smiled, told us that we had a 3 sachet maximum for sugar per person( friends came to check on us and we needed more for tea), asked why we needed extra TP ( my daughter had a fever and was vomiting most of the night) which gave us the idea the hotel was struggling. Not quite something I want to feel bad about. Other than that other staff were often not at the front desk, didn’t complete check in processes and could be heard gossiping in the room off the reception quite loudly ( often about guests). It’s a great hotel for REALLY short stays but longer stays show problems in the place. A pity, since it has great potential to be great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): It works - An ok place for travelers
- Verified traveler (10/5): What you see... - A great mid point hotel
- Karin (8/5): Clean and Comfortable - Not bad for a road lodge
- 1WorldExplorerx2 (4/5): Not what I booked! - I booked and paid at the Town Lodge in Bellville and 3 days later received a call to inform me that the Town lodge is closed. Nice finding that out after the fact. Had I known I would not have booked them at all.
I needed to be in the Northern Suburbs for business and the alternatives the City Lodge Group gave me was either of the City Lodges at Grand West or Cape Town or the Road Lodge at the N1 Mall. I opted for the road lodge since it was closer to where I needed to be for business.
Not a great hotel for the amount of money they took from me. It certainly deserves the 1Star rating it has. Staff is only doing the bare minimum with no additional info provided in check-in. Rooms are tired and needs maintenance. Furniture with marks etc. Linen so old that you can see straight through it. Hot breakfast was terrible to the point that I sent it back on the first morning and opted out for the second morning.
Very disappointed with City Lodge Hotels in this instance. Stayed in Port Elizabeth the week before and it was the complete opposite experience.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The security was interfere in my business
- toii (10/5): - Have stayed there a couple of times, will defnitely go back agsin. Will recommend to my friends as well.
- Refilwe (8/5): - It was ok. Could be nice if you could have a restaurant on site and not have to go to the mall for food
- MJ (6/5): - Not so great the issue of mini bar fridge and microwave in today's age its a basic need. Even cheap bead and breakfast offer those two.
- C. (10/5): - Lovely stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff friendly and efficient. Corridors etc in need of refurbishment. No lift to 3rd floor.
- Antoinette (8/5): - My favourite spot for anytime
- mtho (10/5): happy first time in CT - very comfortable and convenient
- Cedric P (10/5): Road Lodge N1 stay - Good overall, happy wirh our stay.
- Jannie (6/5): - The staff was very friendly and helpfull.
The guests was load and busy the whole night long. The Hotel can't help this.
The rooms are small, but clean.
The Hotel is located next to the N1 and a railway line. Noisy.
- eikulfrans (8/5): Toiletries - Good for one person but can give more like shampoo etc, coffee and tea in rooms and vending machines that are stocked and working and maybe basic room service for midnite snackers or alike. Thank you very much
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The breakfast on offer is so I'm appetising, hot breakfast was some scrambled egg that tasted gross and some chakalaka. It's neat and clean ,but not appetising at all.
- Fabian (10/5): Wonderful experience at N1 city Lodge - It was a great experience and wouldn't mind doing it again.
- Brandon (8/5): - Pleasant stay with very friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Needed a separate bathroom from the bedroom and having to stand at the gate for 10 mins to be let in, needs a buzzer or intercom. Very well located for shops etc.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - convenient for overnight stay as we were leaving on a tour early in the morning
- Christopher (6/5): Crime - The night of our stay they broke into my vehicle and stole about R2000.00 worth of items. This aftet the security endured us that the vehicle and belongings are safe.
- Elsabé (10/5): Very comfy stay - Fantastic service, very clean and comfy, super friendly staff
- LieslB53 (8/5): Value for money - Clean rooms. Very friendly staff, great for quick stay over if you are just looking for a place to sleep. Not recommended for holiday or long stays. Easy access to shops and N1 highway. No dinner, only breakfast served.
- normanvanwyk7604 (6/5): Lunch with family - After birthday shopping we were extremely hungry and this was the perfect spot to choose. With a low budget after shopping the price was perfect, but to my surprise the food was nice and the service excellent. The food court provides an array of different restaurants in the area and I would most definitely recommend this restaurant for good food, nice service and clean restaurant
- Verified traveler (8/5): - More specific directions (street number?) are needed. We have great difficulty locating the hotel.
- Andrew_Durban460 (10/5): No frills BUT value for money - will return - My Company booked me in at RL N1 for the evening of 25 March 2019. After a long hard day, all I wanted was an easy check-in and a neat clean room to sleep in. Ronell, the receptionist, is clearly an asset to this Lodge. She was friendly, understanding and smiling, all of this during the late evening. Breakfast had enough variety and the coffee machine easy to use. Lots of parking and safe. Right on the N1. Desk in room to work from with free wi-fi.
- Busani (8/5): Best Night - It was short and sweet.
- Dyanne (10/5): We LOVED our stay ! - Most enjoyable, we felt so at home. No false airs and graces, the staff were fantastic and extremely helpful, effortlessly going of their way for us on more than one occasion. The rooms were well maintained, clean and neat, showing personnel that take pride in their work.
All in all, we loved it and felt safe and cared for as a guest. GREAT Value for money.!
The breakfasts always looked and smelled good, unfortunately, we were too pressed for time and were unable to spoil ourselves.
- Siphokazi (8/5): It’s good - Walls are paper thin but you get to sleep. Next to a railway so it does get a bit rowdy at times
- 323haha (10/5): Starting point on our trip to South Africa - After a full day travelling and a late arrival in Cape Town the Road Lodge hotel was perfect . So close to both the airport and the car hire companies it couldn't have been situated any better . Clean with very helpful and cheerful staff I would recomend this hotel for either stating or finishing your adventure in South Africa .
Take advantage of the excellent breakfast they have on offer .
- glenn (10/5): Perfect for my simple needs - Great breakfast buffet , very helpful staff. No complaints at all.
- Elna (6/5): - I find it very strange that there's a kettle, but no coffee? I could book in at 2, but the room was not ready at 5 when I got there?
- Verified traveler (8/5): Overall my stay wasn't too bad. - Overall the stay was good, had the basics needed to be comfortable. The positives were free WIFI, friendly staff at reception, enough parking for all cars.
The one big negative is that my room was close to reception, so some of the staff in the corridor (right outside my room) and in the reception area would shout to each other on the other side of the room/corridor. This happened constantly through the day and it started early in the morning.
Overall the stay was good.
- Jason (2/5): N1 Lodge Daylight Robbery - Did online payment for room and used wrong name, manager contacted hotels. Com and did not advise me that i could change name via hotels. Com. I was refused stay at venue and told me i cannot be refunded. I have both confirmation number and email booking receipt and the manager took an hour of checks until he finally tells us to leave and denies us stay even when i instructed him to deduct payment again as we were tired and desperate to rest.
- Shameela (2/5): Disgusted - Extremely disappointing. Staff absolutely rude and not helpful. Arrogant!!! Will never stay or recommend the Hotel.
- DNAriese (8/5): Value for money - Clean and tidy hotel. Great value for money. No frills. Would suggest staying here if you are on a budget. The room is perfect for a couple. The only complaint we had was very noisey guests in the early hours of the morning.
- Thandeka (10/5): Best place when travelling as a group - It was good
- Brandon (6/5): - The room smelt of strong cleaning chemicals. Killed my sinus
- Edgar (8/5): Good - Amazing
- Krishnan (10/5): - amazing
- DaisyL04 (8/5): Nice overnight stop - The lodge is clean and friendly helpful staff.
Fresh water and muffins to welcome you.
Coffee machine and something warm also available.
Room were clean and a little view also.
You can book for breakfast also.
