Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The besa place to stay you feel at home . I miss you all . Kisses luz . I am looking forward to seeing you.
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- MICHELE (10/5): - Très bon rapport qualité prix. Grande chambre confortable calme impeccable. Petit déjeuner super
- Verified traveler (6/5): Well located but not recommended - I booked an airport transfer with the hotel and they didn’t show up. My flight number changed but I arrived and waited for the transfer. There is only one flight per day, so it is not hard to imagine that I could arrive.
I took a taxi and they wanted to charge me the transfer anyway.. with the excuse that the driver was waiting for me at the wrong terminal (there is only one international terminal at Yangon airport, where could he be? At departure area?)
The hotel is old, decadent decoration, smells bad around the elevator area, needs an urgent renovation.
The telephone and fridge dont work.. breakfast is very simple.
However it is well located, close to main attractions of the city, that why I chose the hotel but I don’t recommend.
- Kulduo (8/5): Food & communication - Breakfast was of local taste , quality of coffee poor & mostly not hot enough.
Language problem with with the hotel restaurant staff , language skills of check in staff were acceptable.
- ROBIN (6/5): Dated building but OK except for awful breakfast - Breakfast was awful
- pauline (8/5): Friendly and warmth - Nice friendly staff, requested check out an hour later and was given. Location accessible, helped with taxi. Everything was nice and professional.
- Jyrki (8/5): Siisti hotelli lähellä rautatieasemaa. - Neljä yötä lomamatkalla, Siisti hotelli, aamiainen 14. kerroksessa, vastaanotossa puhutaan hyvää englantia, siisti hotelli. Kaikki toimi niin kuin pitääkin. Aamiainen aasialaishotellien tapaan hieman vaatimattomampi, mutta riittävä.
- doreen (10/5): Relaxing atmosphere - Great location , very nice staff. Would recommend to all. Great views over city from 14th floor breakfast with a view.
- Ricky (6/5): Convenient location - Hotel is old, decaying and needs renovation. Noise from speaker at the market at the back of hotel is quite disturbing. Water leaks from toilet bowl. Tiles around shower bath tub are cracked. Shower towels are old and thin. Room are clean.
Complimentary breakfasts are cheap and cold everyday. Price is expensive comparing to its status. You can find cheaper and better new hotels around it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel - Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): The Hotel is in great location .. - The room that I stayed in the view was good but the Hotel room was a bit run down.
- Mr X (6/5): Great view of the Pagoda and surrounding building - This is my third stay at the Asian Plaza Hotel, in the last four years and each time I have found it to be a pleasant stay. There is no doubt the hotel and the rooms are dated, however, it has a certain ambience about it and there is an excellent view from the 14th floor where the restaurant is located.
Without a doubt, this hotel's greatest asset is their staff from the security man outside, the bellboy's, front desk Staff and the maids. They all try very hard to please and are pleasant to deal with notwithstanding the slight language barrier.
I have always stayed in the old section of the hotel being the front part which allows you a much better view. The rooms are large, fairly basic and do the job quite well. There is television, air-conditioning and excellent Wi-Fi, in fact, the Wi-Fi is so good it is better than my Optus cable broadband Wi-Fi in Sydney Australia. When I first came to Burma in 2012 stayed at this hotel the Wi-Fi was almost non-existent and it was dial-up speed, my how things can change so quickly, which is definitely what is happening in Burma.
Do yourself a favour and get to Burma as quick as you can as changes happening at a rapid pace and I will briefly explain on the negative side. Unfortunately, the Western influence is creeping into Burma, with advertising everywhere on their trains and platforms. KFC if you like it is now there are also think Pizza Hut may be there. There is also a large Lamborghini dealership, unbelievable! Go there soon!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5): Asia plaza - Business trip, location wasn't that bad. service was ok.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Asia Plaza - While the hotel is in a central location, the front rooms could definitely benefit from a planned maintenance program and some updating of the bathrooms.
Breakfast was also disappointing, particularly if they are attempting to cater for an international market. I did enjoy the variety of Asian style breakfast options, however the alternatives were not particularly good.
- Gregory (8/5): Perfect place for preparation for an organised tou - My stay was in preparation for an organised tour. I have stayed at this hotel before and the breakfast has improved. It is situated near the Ruby Mart, which is a good Supermarket to purchase items that you would need on tour e.g. toiletries, coffee, snacks etc. The staff are very attentive and helpful.
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Octavius (6/5): - The hotel location was great, very friendly staff, unfortunately my room the carpet need replacing,Wi Fi very slow and took ages to connect.
- alain (6/5): Short time in Yangon - Tres bon sejour a Yangon , hotel qui a eu ses jours de gloire mais necessite une reelle remise a niveau . Personnel tres serviable et professionnel
- Paul (8/5): Excellent in centre of town - I had to find a replacement hotel at short notice and landed in this one. Previous one was miles out and filthy. I got here and the whole situation changed for the better
Reception staff good though their English was limited when trying to book one of the tours advertised in the room. I had an amusing half hour trying to do this and involving all four staff. One of the female staff kept me amused by teaching me how to say thank you in the Burmese language, she had a good sense of humour and was charming, She quite made my day!
I enjoyed my stay and the staff were always helpful, even advising the best place to change money (Not the hotel)
I will be going back to Yangdon and look forward to using this hotel again
- Christopher Peter (6/5): a bit tired...like a lot of Yangon. - The room itself was OK, and the main lobby ..... but the rest of the building was really tired and needed renovation and upgrade. Only stayed there because my Intrepid tour was starting there. Room was comfortable and clean and quite large. Have a room safe that was erratic. Ditto, the WiFi. Lift doors crunched a few people. Don't go late for brekkie because nothing much will be left. OK but there are better in Yangon for the price.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice location for transportation. I can see Pagoda from my room.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good Place - Rainy Season is not good time to travel to the city. Reasonably OK. You can find comfortable restaurants/bar and book shop easily. Medium Size Supermarket is near. Generally convenient place.
- luce (6/5): New and old - Accommodation in new section was excellent....but accommodation was not pleasant and yet the price was the same. There was no window in room, the bed was huge ( not necessary) the room very austere....not a nice welcome at 1 am.......
- Hit (8/5): Located downtown - Good hotel clean and friendly, a little expensive.
Good breakfasts
- John (6/5): A few days in Yangon - Reasonable hotel in reasonable location just opposite main railway station. Room was good size but very sparse. Staff helpful but had maintenance problem that never got fixed.
- Seiichiro (6/5): Not so bad not so good..... - Hotel is located in the downtown. It's convinient. Facilities are not new and just normal. Breakfast is not special. Door lock is old system.
- Thorbjorn (8/5): My first time in Myanmar - Very smiling and helpful staf. Exept for the kitchen my stay was perfekt, the kitchen was not good at all, if they had what the menu said you were Lucky.
- David (8/5): Central Location - Hotel is very close to the Ruby Mart supermarket, also easy walking to Sule Pagoda and the Bogyoke Aung San market. Felt the hotel was a bit overpriced (but everything seems overpriced in Myanmar), but it was comfortable.Wifi was free, but not totally reliable. Liked the restaurant on the 14th floor with superb views of downtown Yangon. Staff was very helpful, especially the doormen.
One problem we had was with the safe in the room, it was locked when we arrived, and the hotel, rather than open the safe (which was well secured to the closet), they brought a new safe, which wasn't secured to anything. We didn't use the safe, kinda defeats the object of it all, when you put all your valuables in a safe that any would-be robber can just take the safe.
- Victor (6/5): Mega-priced Myanmar accommodation - Overall I'm satisfied as hotels in Yangon are all overpriced as well as overated. This hotel's greatest plus is its close proximity to the city's tourist attractions.
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Dominic (6/5): Myanmar hotels are not very good - Good location downtown. Horrible breakfast. Some rooms dirty, others ok. Big rooms, but the lighting is terrible - feels institutional. Expensive for the standard of the place.
- SNK (6/5): YMMV: Decent hotel, great location - "Your mileage may vary" as this hotel has a new section and an old section. I was booked in the old section and it is 1970's old. In fact, you pass through the more contemporary and busy front lobby, past some doors to a vacant and empty lobby that is dim, dingy and occupied by a couple of sitting security folk and into an old elevator. My floor was eerily empty and reminded me of The Shining. Room was spacious and had all the essentials but all the tables, bathroom fixtures and windows were well worn like a Motel 6 room. I expect that people who luck out and get a room in the new section had a different experience.
This being Myanmar, however, a country new to tourism (year 3 since they've opened up), there is a severe lack of hotels and the quality of their hotels shouldn't be held to Western standards yet. The location is in a great spot with lots of old and new restaurants and street vendors just outside.
I also had an odd experience where the hotel was running a special where the exchange rate was so bad that they recommended changing money elsewhere (it was about 20% below what other money changers did). Extraordinary service as a staff walked me about 5 blocks away at 9pm at night to an ATM machine. Was great to experience that and get reminded that this city hasn't changed much yet with tourism.
