Guest Reviews
- Eurielle (8/5): - Good price, shared bathroom but private room
- Behzad (6/5): - Room was very small
- Kimberly (6/5): - This hostile is really a university where the rooms are rented out during the summer while kids are on break. The check-in was seamless and the staff was incredibly pleasant to deal with. There is laundry available you have to get a laundry card from the front desk or have university App..The rooms are incredibly hot even with the windows open and the fan they provide. The dorms are not soundproof so you hear every door open and slam. There is a kitchen availble if yiu have your own food. Aivwralk a good stay for a night maybe two.
- marie (8/5): - There was a problem with the phone system - I had called several times before I arrived to ask about certain conditions. That was the only glitch.
- nadine (10/5): - Great quality for the Price and very quiet
- Alexandre (10/5): Good for sleeping!! - Everything was clean but on hotels.com it was advertised as we were having our own fridge but its a common fridge and stove in the building appartments. It was a little hot to sleep but they did gave us a small fan for each room so that was a nice gesture. Overall good and clean for one night sleep.
- Sylvia (10/5): - For a university setting it was great
- Sage (10/5): - This property is a great affordable option for a stay in Nanaimo! Check in was easy, finding the door was a bit annoying because there’s 3 doors in the check in building but 2 of them are unlocked (really not a big deal). Laundry is on site which you have to pay for minimum $10 but they also have laundry detergent to provide you. There was no elevator in the building so we had to carry our luggage up 2 flights of stairs.
10/10 we would stay again!
- Clark (8/5): - Central, clean and comfortable
- Peter (2/5): - Very Disappointed. DEFINITELY not the place to stay for Seniors trying to Enjoy a Vacation
and save some Money .Under Described in the in listing. We were Stunned to see NO ELEVATOR or Fridge only a Community Kitchen on the Ground Floor. We Lost several Food Items because of this situation. Also that we had to Share a Bathroom. We had to Carry our Luggage up 2 Flights of Stairs .The Front Desk Staff were Pleasant but Neglected to give us any Direction as to which Building we were in.They handed us 2 Keys and a Fob. We had to go Back to the Office twice to get Directions. We were Booked for 2 Nights but we only Survived One. A Very Disappointed Start of our Visit to Nanaimo. Peter Rainone
- Nicolette (6/5): - The residence is a budget friendly stay but it is not like a typical hotel stay. Do not expect clean towels daily or your bed made. The residence is also not in a great part of town which was a huge drawback for me as I was hoping to explore by foot.
- Marek (6/5): - The price was good.
- King Lok (10/5): - Great low-cost option
- Cez (10/5): - It’s very clean we appreciate the 4 rooms in 1 apartment good for group visits. We will definitely come back.
- Stephen (4/5): - It's at a campus. Not near many amenities.
- Xinxin (8/5): - Love the spacious kitchen !
- JP (8/5): - Good spot, it’s not extravagant but it’s very good for the price point. Plenty of room to cook in common areas, bathroom shared with one other room, decently comfy bunk beds. Thanks VIU!
- Celia (8/5): - This was a very affordable dorm for the charming tourist town of Nanaimo. It was quiet and convenient. The shared kitchen had two nice microwaves. The washers and dryer’s looked newer. We enjoyed our one night stay. Was a little surprised by the security deposit of around $200, but perhaps this is a general university dorm policy.
- Brian (10/5): - Value for money
- Kris (10/5): - Great affordable stay and very clean. Kitchen area also available plus tv room.
- Sophie (10/5): - Best affordable overnight stay in Nanaimo
- Danielle (10/5): - Everything was excellent
- Chad (10/5): - We liked how clean it was
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very good for my first time.
- Faune (10/5): - Gorgeous site!
- JIAN ZHE (10/5): - Stayed for a week with family. The stay is overall very positive and the shared kitchen is quite big and not many people cook. The bunker bed is clean and comfortable. If one thing I would see improvement is we need some kind of stopper for the upper bed to prevent kid falling
- Susan (8/5): - Comfortable and inexpensive.
- Vincent (8/5): - Nice and clean, wish you had breakfast.
- Zoe (10/5): - My husband travels for work in Nanaimo during the summer and it is always such a pain finding somewhere for him to stay during tourist season. We love that the university offers this option for him! He has enjoyed every stay! It is clean, comfortable and affordable. 10/10
- Monika (8/5): - Good value
- Aimee (8/5): - The only drawback was the lack of A/C in the room
Upon arrival the room was overly warm and stuffy, easily remedied by opening the windows and a fan
- Matthew (10/5): This is a Review - Pretty barebones, but comfortable and clean. Staff is polite.
- Walter (10/5): - This was my second stay…… I stayed there last year. Your facility is very clean, comfortable and has all the amenities you need. The facility has beautiful surroundings, quiet and even have rabbits great you on arrival. The staff are friendly, very pleasant and helpful. Private bathroom and a double bed would be a plus…..my wife could stay there as well, comfortable. Thank you!!
- DAVID (10/5): - Very efficient, clean and cost effective way to stay for me, a single person. Only had a neighbor to share the bathroom with for one night and as long as they know the rules, it goes alright. The 'rules' should be boldly posted in the bathroom, how to lock and unlock doors, other courtesies to extend to your neighbor (noise, etc). Kitchen was all equipped and very clean when I was there.
- Stephen (10/5): - Don’t tell your friends or this great little secret will become too popular!
- Cole (8/5): - It was all good. We enjoyed.
- Daniel (8/5): - Clean and quiet. Great budget choice.
- Dennis (10/5): - room was fine.no problems.good value.
- Darryl (8/5): - Nice stay, only stayed to sleep so didnt see much
- Jill (10/5): - This is a great, economical option during the summer, as long as you know what to expect. Generally, there are very few people around. The walls are paper thin, though, if you do get a neighbour, and be warned that two rooms share a bathroom between (co-ed). I find the XL twin bed very comfortable but the pillow inadequate. WiFi is great. Many rooms have a view over the city to the water.
- Andrew (10/5): - Clean and comfortable beds.
- Neil (6/5): - Good cheap alternative
- Mei (8/5): - One of the upper bunk bed had a lot of hair. Seem it was used by someone but no linen changed after use.
- Ben (10/5): - A good facility at a good price. Well run with onsite help at hand most of the time. Nanaimo is well located as a basefor exploring Vancouver Island.
- Harriet (10/5): - I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff are lovely and very helpful. The area feels very safe and is quiet at night. It is a little out of the way but well connected by bus. And there are bunnies everywhere, it's adorable!
- Ivan (8/5): - Good location, quiet setting. Great place to stay in Nanaimo.
- Don (8/5): - Easy to book, very reasonable price, quick checkin, excellent internet service, free parking. Large kitchen provided downstairs if needed. Overall very good stay.
- Elise (10/5): - Excellent value for price - staff were great and accommodating, bed was reasonably comfortable and facilities were clean. The only complaint I have was that the room smelled like feet. Became nose blind to it eventually but would recommend bringing air freshener.
- Jaideep (2/5): - No helping staff terrible
- Diane (10/5): - The suite I stayed in was clean and the bed was comfortable. Bathroom were clean and lots of towels and toiletries to use. I asked for a room on the 1st floor adjoining my friend that I travelled with. No stairs and close to the front door. Common room was clean and convenient to my room. I had use of the fridge and freezer. Staff were friendly and helpful. Enjoyed my stay.
- Michael (10/5): - Really excellent value for the money if you are just looking for a simple and cost effective night's sleep. The property was very clean, including the shared bathroom. Renting out University residence rooms during the summer holiday is brilliant!! Well done!
- Debora (8/5): - Fine
- Christine (10/5): - Excellent accommodations! Convenient with such flexible check in. Very clean and comfortable. Will be coming back!
- Samantha (10/5): - This stay was amazing. Rob at the front desk was helpful and positive, also very accommodating when we asked to be in an ocean-facing room as it was our first time in Tofino. The rooms were clean and comfortable, all towels and toiletries were provided as well. My only complaint would be that there are no area to fill water bottles - but when we called Rob at the front desk he was brilliant and filled our bottles from their staff water tower at the front desk.
- Georgina (10/5): - Excellent value for money. Quiet and had everything I needed.
- Ashwin (8/5): - It's a clean and comfortable rooms. Ample space.keep in mind of stackable hostel kind of beds, if at all it's a issue.
- Jay (2/5): - Horrible experience
- Steve (8/5): - Easy, decent place to crash
- Guilherme (10/5): - Very clean, good location, affordable price!
- Trang (10/5): - The staff were pleasant and helpful. We weren't expecting much, but we were pleasantly surprised with the amenities provided. The room was affordable, comfortable, and exactly what we needed.
- Tuyen (8/5): - Look like students staff is not eager to communicate
- June (10/5): - Staff was made up of students. They were fun and helpful.
The buildings were residents. The environment was nature with trails with beautiful view of mountains and the ocean.
Wonderful to be there. The university is also close to Nanaimo.
- julia-anne (8/5): - 3 pod was a Nice clean suite and great communal kitchen to boot
- Carmen (8/5): - Recommend, just no ac
- Joanna (8/5): - It was a convenient option as a place to sleep. Equivalent to motel-style accommodations and amenities. It suited us just perfectly.
- Norma (10/5): - Staff were AWESOME. Was grest we had a kitchen to cook in, refrigerator & freezer we could use, place was very clean & quiet. Definitely enjoyed staying five nights. Hope to return here. Will definitely recommend. THANK YOU VIU.
- Beth (8/5): - Enjoyed the room, good for a solo traveller
- Mike and Annie (10/5): - Oerdext for what i needed will sray again. Staff super friendly!
- Francisco (10/5): - Good for a short trip
- Sherry (8/5): No frills but comfy enough - Would have loved some AC. Warm days and a warm room. Shared bathroom 1 of the two nights.
- Michelle (6/5): - Too loud at 11pm
- cody (10/5): - Price and proximity to the ferry. Also the ability to check in at anytime.
- Jinjia (8/5): - Good uni accommendation, will stay again.
- Xin (10/5): - Nice and good price.
- Sherry (8/5): Good but no frills - Simple stay with no frills. Stayed 2 nights and 1st night shared a bathroom. It was quiet. Room was warm as there is no AC. Fan available though. Ok when nothing else was available during holiday weekend. Just glad to find something.
- Trent (10/5): - In a safe area of the city; and quiet too! Lots of wildlife like bunnies and deer and I even saw an owl!
If you’re a single traveller wanting to explore the island, these hotel rooms will work for you. The communal kitchen area is an excellent place to cook your own meals and safe money eating out. Some might find shared bathrooms a little different; but you get used to it pretty fast.
I’ll be back next year!
- Raul (10/5): - Wonderful place!
- Annie (6/5): - Good value for stay in Nanaimo. Kitchen is super good. Customer service is superior. Only the bed is too soft.
- Bryan (10/5): - Very friendly staff. The room was great, quiet and confortable. Would definately stay here again.
- chiu-hung (8/5): - It is quiet and easy parking. Staff are friendly. There are some stains on carpet and sofa.
There are many Rabbit's po outside of the building make the entrance smell not good.
- Ainsley (10/5): - It is a great location, super quiet, loved the bunnies (i know they are all over). I booked it because i was on my own while my kids were camping with family elsewhere on the island and i still had to work. The room and bathroom was clean, as was the stocked kitchen. The living area was comfortable and quiet for me to get work done. I fully recommend staying here as a solo traveler as a great budget option.
- Bernard (10/5): - .
- Rebecca (8/5): - Front desk staff were delightful and super helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The washroom is shared with only another room. If you can, choose 1st or 2nd floor room, otherwise 3rd floor runs the risk of hearing the HVAC constantly hum.
- Preet (10/5): - Staff was amazing!! Quick check-in very helpful.
- Darrin (8/5): - Great
- Ben (8/5): - Very basic room with shared bathroom and common area. Quiet and clean. Super friendly staff. Good price for Nanaimo in the summer.
- Syed (10/5): - Very friendly staff. Overall this was my best experience
- Jeffrey (8/5): - Check-in was painless, even in the late evening. Staff were all very pleasant and courteous. The room was clean and brightly lit. Overall a wonderful dorm accommodation.
- M. (6/5): - No signs to find the reception area
- Dorrit (10/5): - Size was brilliant for our family of 8! Needs air conditioning or more fans though
- Alexander (10/5): - This is a university renting dorm rooms for summer; Wi-Fi and laundry is available, front desk person was the best, and the local wild rabbit gang were there to greet me.
- Adrian (10/5): Hit all the right notes for a good value stay! - Great value, location and service. Friendly, helpful, staff made stay super-simple. Room and adjoining washroom clean-as-can-be. All mod cons and big, open, kitchen, communal area. All-in-all, just what was needed for a visit to the city and keeping within budget.
- Guilherme (10/5): - Very clean, nice location for a good price
- Alexandra (10/5): - The 4-room dorm was perfect for our team event. Anything we were missing from the apartment was quickly brought to us when asked. Younger group members felt safe walking the area, as did all members and our belongings were secure both in our suite and vehicles.
The 8-bed apartments could have a larger sitting area and eating area, as not all members could dine at the same time, but it was very comfortable!
- Francesca (8/5): Keep in mind it's not a hotel and it'll be great! - It is exactly what it says on the tin! We really just needed to crash for a night, and this was one of the best deals. We knew it was a college dorm. It was a college dorm lol. No AC, uncomfy XL twin bunk bed spring mattresses, shared bathroom with privacy locks on both sides. I did really love the sink and vanity in the rooms rather than the bathrooms though. If I had to stay longer, I'd bring a sleeping mat to put on the bed. Check in was very easy, and the woman who checked us in was SO INCREDIBLY GRACEFUL when an entitled man got mad at her for having to pay the pre-auth refundable fee.
- seoyong (10/5): - Very good so happy
- Michael (8/5): - Clean and convenient.
- Teodora (10/5): - Lots of availability
- COURAGE (10/5): - Excellent 👍
