Guest Reviews
- Misty (10/5): - Loved staying here. Definitely recommend 👌 G59
- Stephen (8/5): - Small room with a comfortable bed. No problem using the shared washroom.
- Rumyana (10/5): - I liked it has a terrace with great view on the skyline
- Philip (8/5): - This is a budget hotel so don't expect too much. That said, my stay was fine and the big positive is the location. It is absolutely perfect as a base to see everything worth seeing and doing without the need for loads of Ubers and other transportation.
Communication was good and check in was no problem.
As I say, I'd you're after luxury this isn't for you but if you just need a place to rest in-between exploring, this is perfect.
I would liken it to student digs in the UK.
Better than a hostel as you're alone and have you're own bathroom but not as comfortable as mid budget hotel.
I was perfectly happy with the room.
- Steven (10/5): - The room and building is clean. Basic accommodation but exactly what I needed and was looking for. Excellent location for exploring Kensington market area and downtown. No car needed.
- Nathalie (6/5): - Clean room but air conditioning didn’t work well. Very well situated Dow town Toronto. Fridge and microwave in the room were useful.
- Jaana (6/5): - Location was good, quiet neighbourhood, good access to public transportation.
Hotel also was quiet, bathroom was ok.
Overall, it was ok.
- Marc-Antoine (6/5): - Nothing good, nothing special. Just a bed to sleep in that was not dirty. In Chinatown, in the middle of everything. But do not expect anything but basic amenities.
- Nic (8/5): - No ac in the room but the rest of the stay was great. Good value.
- KAHUGI (6/5): - good
- Zach (6/5): - If you’re just looking for a place to sleep while you explore the city, this place is decent. The areas a little sketchy, but not the worst. And the room is VERY basic, but they do provide a microwave and mini fridge. The beds are nothing luxurious but comfortable enough. The location is great though. Right next to Dundas, and about a 20 min walk to Yonge and Dundas square, the aquarium, CN tower, Harbour, etc. you get what you pay for, but if you don’t plan on spending much time there beyond resting and showering, it’s perfectly acceptable. Would recommend earplugs though for sleeping
- Lorne (10/5): - Nice clean room, excellent shower
- Connor (10/5): - Very clean and central
- Julius (8/5): Clean, Affordable, Great Location - Great stay. The room was clean and spacious and just what I needed for my stay. This is an affordable downtown hotel perfect for travelers, tourists or students looking for something clean and comfortable. It's not fancy but that was not what I was looking for. Loved it.
- Ramiro (8/5): Ideal for the low maintenence type - The location of the property is in a very convenient spot. One block away in one direction is Chinatown, another way a nice park, and just a couple blocks south, you're in a very busy shopping area.
This was one room, with 2 beds (very firm), 2 folding steel chairs, a table and a mini fridge. The bathroom was really nice and clean, though, the toilet seat could be fixed.
This place is perfect for the 1 to 2 night trip as a place to rest and wash up. Ideally for the low maintenence visitor.
Check-in was relatively simple. You alert the owner, they leave you a key with instructions, they take a photo of your ID and that's it.
Check out, just leave the key in a box.
Overall, I had a very good experience with this place, but I can see this not being everyone's cup of tea. But for the price and location, I'll gladly come back.
- VISWANATH (8/5): - A quiet and peaceful place. Room was compact and comfortable. Daily housekeeping was absent. Kitchen needed better maintenance. Full of cockroaches. Hygiene was lacking. The hall too was dumped with goods.
Since it was shared apartment visits to inspect the cleanliness especially of kitchen and overall maintenance would have been a great help.
Overall it turned out good experience. Would return if suggestions are implemented.
- Sebastien (2/5): Mice in building - Mice-infested building. Do not go there. Very unpleasant.
- Olivier (10/5): - I had a double occupation room with private bathroom. Very good location, old building, but the rooms are renovated. In the room there was just a bed, a plastic small table, a plastic chair and a full bathroom with a renovated shower. SUPER CLEAN. Beds and sheets were super clean, smelled fresh. Same goes for the towells. I only found a hair in the shower and on a bathroom’s wall. Upon arrival, we were met by the employee, she gave us an extra bed as an upgrade, she said. She gave us our key, the code to enter the facility and the wifi password, who actually works great. The public transit is very a infant around the hostel, downtonw is just few stops away.
Overall, very good experience, I recommend and will certainly will book again.
- Dalton (10/5): - Good location, easy check in and check out. Functional for exploring local area
- Remi (6/5): - Nice stay
- Shubham (4/5): - No parking and staff. Noisy
- Dan (4/5): - The property was in a very convenient location for attending the Toronto International Film Festival, and that's about the only good thing I can say. The room was as bare bones as it gets, saggy futon mattress, folding table for a desk, no cooking utensils for the kitchen. I expected basic, but it just felt sad. At first the room appeared clean, but after a few days I noticed mouse droppings. The noise was really bothersome even with earplugs, with almost no sound insulation between rooms. The price is right, but you get what you pay for.
- Amber (8/5): - Overall we had a great experience! Will definitely stay here again.
- Brian (8/5): - Basic, no frills accommodations. Clean room, good location to walk (15 minutes) to downtown. Close to public transit.
- Charlotte (4/5): -
The property was scary looking. It was just a twin bed in a basement closet
- Diana Louise (10/5): - Dont judge a book by its cover.
Though not pretty on the outside, inside was very well maintained.
If you have any issue with your room, someone is always available 24 hours a day.
Had an issue with our sink and it was fixed immediately the next day.
Geeat service.
The room over all was perfect to accomodate me and my guest.
Clean sheets, clean towels.
The only issue is that the walls are very thin. But it is what it is.
It was close to the Film Festival.
I would definitely stay here again.
- Dylan (10/5): - Stayed here multiple times, clean and easy to deal with as always. Great if you’re just looking for a place to rest at the end of the day.
- Charo (2/5): - The process of checking in was confusing, different from the instruction they message. Guests are coming in the midnight banging the wall and door (maybe trying to check in) when we felt warm, we opened the window but smell joint coming in to the room.
- Jesse (2/5): - Kicked me out a day early cause i was distracted by a concert. Gave my room away but didnt steal anything out of my bag when they moved my stuff. Kind of a flophouse but when your strapped for cash and wanna be close to downtown is not a bad choice. Still kinda pissed about kicking me out a day early. Would not recommend.
- Fern (8/5): - The property is a 20-minute walk from Rogers Center and about 30-minute walk from the Train Station and a five-minute walk to Kensington Market. The streetcar runs along Dundas which is one block away. Options for food and entertainment are abundant within a 10-minute walk. The area has a quiet, safe, residential area feel. I would definitely stay there again. The property is not fancy but is both clean and affordable. The room looks like the pictures; our room was recently renovated with a beautiful, tiled walk in shower.
- Christopher (10/5): - Good price
- Jose (6/5): - Overall, decent stay for a solo traveler.
- Susan (2/5): - Cheap and had beds a shower and a fridge. It’s like a youth hostel no frills near the streetcar/public transportation. There is no parking on site. That’s a lie. We didn’t stay where we originally booked. They moved us a few houses over. You get what you pay for. Infestation of yellowjackets coming in through the window that faces the alley when we took showers and bathroom got steamy. It’s cheap.
- Dalcia (8/5): - Please install a kitchen 🙏 and if there is one, put up a sign.
- Jan (6/5): - You get what you pay for. It was very basic, but it was clean, safe, and in an excellent location within easy walking distance of all the major sights in Toronto. You could hear other guests coming into their rooms and having a shower, and I was also not sure why the manager did not allow me to check in when I arrived an hour earlier than I should have, but I suppose she was within her right not to; I would also have preferred a full duvet cover rather than a simple sheet. But ultimately I only needed a comfortable bed and a clean bathroom and shower, and to be in convenient location in central Toronto, and that is precisely what I got, so I cannot complain.
- Lisa (4/5): - This was not for us. More like a hostel. Okay for short stay or travelling solo.
- Andre (6/5): - Mats for the bed much too hard
- Paul (6/5): Solo in Toronto for 3 nights - Very basic accommodations. On the edge of Chinatown, it offers a wide range of dining options and nightlife, and is in walking distance to nearly everything in Toronto, in addition to being a block from the Dundas trolly line. Property consists of 3 (I think) brownstone type buildings. I stayed in #33, which seems to have been recently renovated. It was very clean, and the room was spacious for one person. The room did not have any glasses, but did have a small fridge and a microwave. Not many flat surface areas to put things, no bedtable, etc. But still, the value was absolutely there given the price of hotels in Toronto. There is no parking on site, but plenty of lots nearby.
I would absolutely stay here again.
- Priya (2/5): - The place was soo loud and also initially we were given a random building when that is not what we booked
- Laurie (6/5): - It was a convenient location for us. Stayed with my husband and daughter Very clean in the unit. Just a bit shady from the outside. No frills to this place but had everything we needed for a one night stay. Just a fair warning…the beds in our unit were VERY, VERY, VERY firm. Also air conditioning was not very efficient. They do have a large fan in the room that helped.
- Becca (10/5): - Convenient parking, air conditioning and very clean! Would have appreciated knowing our room was in the basement as it was a little dark and a very small window.
- Annette (6/5): - The stay was good. The room was clean. Had to wait longer than expected to check in.
- dominik (10/5): - Clean and safe
- Robert (10/5): - Liked the proximity to the Toronto core.
- Dayna (10/5): - Nothing fancy but close to downtown and clean.
- Verified traveler (10/5): 4 days 3 nights - If you just need a place to sleep near downtown in chinatown with walking distance to grocery and restaurants also convenient public transportation, this is it. For its price in the area, I’d prefer to stay here again than other hotels.. bed, bathroom, microwave and fridge is all i need.. the neighbours noise can be tolerated and no elevator so if you’re bringing a 20kg luggage, you’d have to carry that on a 10-15 steps stairs that is quite tight.. room size is decent for solo travellers, very thankful for the electric fan in the room and i must mention how staff was very helpful and friendly on check-in. It was pretty late too and i was accompanied to my room. I’ll definitely stay here again next time~
- Rosa Beatriz (10/5): - From the outside place looks not so great, but inside was awesome, really clean and room was nice. Within minutes you have good restaurants and grocery stores; is you want a place to stay in Toronto, with frugality, this is the place!!
- Samantha (8/5): - The room was nice and clean, loved the area, very close and walkable to lots of places. Safe and quiet street with a nice park close by. Staff didn’t give us more towels for 4 days when said they would. Wifi didn’t work half the days, mini fridge couldn’t be used because it smelled bad. No parking on street, has to park a block away in public underground parking. Other than that was a nice stay there and would probably stay again.
- YUTE (10/5): - Stay for one night , not bad and convenient, room is small but clean with everything you need
- Rebekah (10/5): - We were looking for a reasonable, clean and conveniently located place to stay for a concert downtown. This was ideal. Very pleased with the choice!
- tony (6/5): - Humble dwelling but clearness
- Klaus-J.
- Charlotte (6/5): - The location is very nice. We saw the comments about extra fees so we were really carefull. For the cleaning par they could have vaccumed more however it was smelling good in the building.
- Heather (8/5): - I come here often as it’s convenient to the ballpark for the Jays. Easy walking distance to bus and train stations. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Location, location, location!!
- Mark (8/5): - It was inexpensive in comparison, so we got what we paid for. A good night sleep. Essentially a rooming house, but clean and had what we needed for one night. Outside deck left a lot to be desired as there was debris. Air conditioning was loud, but worked. Was supposed to be a double and two twins, but ending up being two doubles. Overall, was what we needed for the one night and in good proximity to the activities we wanted to do in toronto.
- Jadia (10/5): - Perfect place to stay that’s in a convenient location.
- Jnyananjoy (6/5): - Location is walkable distance from downtown
- Erin (6/5): - Basic accommodation but clean. The check in process was a little confusing with conflicting information sent before vs the instructions at the property. Could hear people in hallways and other rooms very easily but it was on a quiet street.
- David (10/5): - If you’re looking for an inexpensive yet clean and comfortable place to stay this is your place. Nothing fancy and the room is small but does have a microwave and mini fridge. Just around the corner from unlimited food options and walking distance to area attraction's.
- Katerina (10/5): - Check-in and checkout processes are quick and simple, room was sparkling clean, staff were lovely. Will be returning.
- Judith (10/5): - Quiet accommodations with minimal frills. Great for a short stay, especially for backpackers and solo travellers.
- Kara (2/5): - Was overbooked and brought us to a completely unacceptable "alternative" which was so bad and unsafe we left hours later. We told the property who won't issue a refund stating the stay is "non-refundable". Avoid if you don't want to be left homeless in Toronto.
- Jim (8/5): - Good
- Adriana (6/5): - Good location
- Lauris (2/5): - Wasn't told my room was in the basement until arrival. My room had no fridge or microwave which I was told it would have had. The A/C was so cold that I developed a bit of a cough. Noticed a centepede crawling around in the morning. I opted to forego my second night and just left. This is more like a hostel than a hotel!
- Mohammed (10/5): - Clean, and central!
- Zachary (8/5): Small and cosy. Location is excellent. - For a solo traveller, this place is not too bad. The location is excellent as it’s only a 10 min walk into the downtown area. Parking a vehicle behind the accomodation was adequate for $15 a night. The size of the room is quite small including the private bathroom. It’s good for just putting your luggage down and go exploring the city by foot, bus and train.
If you’re not fussy on the size of your room, this place is worth it due to its location.
- Winfred (10/5): - This isn't your conventional lodging. I gave this property 5 stars because I got everything I needed, but let me explain what you're in for.
I got one of the cheapest rooms, which was essentially a closet with a bed, chair, and table. The shared bathroom was a few feet away.
Depending on the room you rent, you'll be getting the bare basics, so just be aware of that. Soap and a towel is provided.
The Chinatown Traveller's Home is in a quiet, convenient location. There's a park nearby that always has people exercising or relaxing, and if you cut through it, you're just a few blocks from CN Tower.
The location is excellent.
There is no room service and the bathrooms will be restocked at least once a week.
The staff IS available at all times, so if you arrive late at night, they'll still be able to help you out.
TLDR: this place is great if you need a bed to sleep in and won't spend a lot of time in your room. The only thing you might have to worry about is the people you share the bathroom with.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Foldable beds - be advised - For the price we paid, we expected at least proper beds instead of foldable ones. Unfortunately, they were quite uncomfortable, which really affected our stay.
The plumbing also left a lot to be desired—it seemed poorly done and was very noticeable.
The place was very clean, which we appreciated.
- Dalvir (2/5): - Bro the room was so tiny they don’t give no water or nothing not even soap or towel and someone scratched my car outside the hotel and they say they don’t have no cameras n it costed me extra 500$ to repair
- Monica Mary (10/5): - Our room was basic but very clean, and we sppreciated having a fridge and air conditioning during our stay.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Proposition indigne d'Hotels.com - Such an expérience never again
No food
No comfort
Difficult access
Hi cost for extremely bad quality
- Dimari (6/5): Chinatown stay - It was good for the price, but you had to pay extra per night for parking it’s not included. There were also stains on the sheets and no one would answer for check in for about 10 min. Overall it was good right by nice places though. ALSO housekeeping does not knock so be prepared for that.
- Dominique (10/5): - This is an awesome place if you're looking to stay somewhere on a budget and aren't planning to spend a lot of time in your room. It's clean, and convenient - close to lots of amenities. The rooms are basic but clean and we slept great! If you need parking- ask in advance as it gets filled dup fast and there's not a lot of parking around.I'll definitely come back!
- Stephen (10/5): Just a bed - Just needed a bed so I got a room which was quiet and comfortable. The shared bathroom is clean and in good working order.
- James (8/5): - Great value money.
- Richard (8/5): - This is a fair price and a great location.Rooms are confortable but not fancy .Parking if you drive a car is somewhat inconvenient but is only a short walk from underground parking in China town at the corner of grange and Spadina where you can park all night .
- James (8/5): - The property is expanding. I stayed at a new building. Its
very close to a number of VIETNAMSE restaurants.
- Mark (6/5): - Basic accommodation in good location close to China town.
- Stephen (10/5): - This room is on the top floor and has a balcony with a nice view. A good place to relax.
- Anamika (6/5): - Affordable, just affordable in
heart of city.
- Celine (10/5): Tres jolie chambre - La chambre est propre, avec tout el confort nécessaire. Le lit peut paraitre tres dur mais pas du tout on a super bien dormi . La localisation est parfaite.
- Stephen (10/5): Downtown destination - A comfortable room with a desk, microwave, refrigerator and bathroom. The renovated shower is marvelous ! A great place in downtown Toronto.
- Stephen (8/5): - A great deal in downtown Toronto. Rooms with a double bed and batjr
- catherine (8/5): - I felt very safe and the room and location may all of my needs! I would stay here again next time I'm in Toronto.
- francois (8/5): Excellent emplacement mais rudimentaire - Excellent prix pour la localisation de l'hébergement
- Doug (8/5): - Great location clean
- Helen (2/5): This place should not be listed. - This property should NOT be listed on hotels.com, it is so substandard. I have been an avid and usually low- to moderate budget traveler for decades and this only time I have had to leave a hotel because of terrible conditions.
I expected it to be simple and very basic, and the previous reviews gave no indication of problems. They were so brief that in retrospect I wonder if they were real.
Upon arrival, ar a house that looked worse than the photo, the owner brought us to a room several houses down the block. There were at least six garbage cans piled under our window and a smell of sewage in general. The room was clean but the furniture starting to fall apart and there was no space even to put a small suitcase. We had to take turns opening ours.
The bed was hard and the room very cold at night with no ability to adjust the thermostat. The blankets were very thin and towel racks were missing. There were no common areas. At best, this can be described as a low-end workers hostel, not a “guesthouse,” and frankly, I have stayed in plenty of hostels that were better than this. The two or three times we texted the owners with questions, there was no response. The only positive thing I can say about the room was that it was clean.
We had paid for six nights, spent one night and requested hotels.com to request a refund from the owners. The owners refused.
- Suzanne (8/5): Good Budget Simple Stay - This place is really good for those on a budget. The rooms are simple as are the bathrooms but everything was clean and secure. Great for students or others looking for affordable accommodation right in downtown TO.
- Marlies (8/5): - room was ok for the price and the location we needed.
- Suhail (6/5): - Basic and good for a short stay. There was no tea kettle, no deadbolt or chain to lock door from inside and only one light bulb for whole room. The area was also not the safest at night but fine during the day and plenty of local shops and Tim Hortons, MacD nearby.
- Charlene (10/5): - Great location - Walkable to many city spots. This is a bare minimal place, but cannot be beat for the price - if you are looking for a simple bed and shower and don’t plan on spending much time in the room. This is the place.
- Francois (8/5): It’s just to sleep and wash - Overall, it’s fine. It’s just they tried to maximize the space and make rooms where there shouldn’t be.. it’s OK for the price you’re 12 minutes of walk from the CN Tower. It was extremely clean. I might see a lot of little negative things but in the end if you’re just looking for a place to sleep and wash quiet and you’re able to take a little bit of discomfort on some things, you’ll get an amazing weekend for a very cheap downtown Toronto. And I would be the first one to return to that place if I go back downtown Toronto.
- Mahajabin (6/5): - The room and the bathroom were clean. The property was Air conditioned. There were a microwave and a refrigerator. But the outside of the property was dirty and had to wait 10 mins outside for the owner to come and let us in. Overall if anyone wants to have a room to just spend the night I would recommend.
- Apurv (2/5): - The worst service, I have had ever. The air conditioner was not working properly, since I complained and asked for fan. Then even though, they did not provide. Please don’t book this hotel for your future trip in Totonto.
- Ian (8/5): - Overall, it was exactly what we were looking for. Cheap, small, relatively clean, good air conditioning, quiet, polite staff. If you're expecting a beautiful, roomy place to stay, this obviously isn't it, but if you just want a cheap and convenient place to sleep and hang out downtown, I think this place delivers that exactly.
- James (10/5): - A budget hotel/hostel in an awesome ,location. So many
different dining options.
- Jen (10/5): - Great location
- James (10/5): - The awesome location. Within walking distance of both Queen St and Dundas Street. Its also about a five minute walk from Sonic Boom Records, Dark Horse Cafe and
Ocho bar & restaurant.
- d (8/5): - i had to spend 2 hrs on this yesterday, and have to redo it today. it's incredibly annoying, i can't believe i'm bothering. and there's minimal room for me to go into detail.
so, the major point is that i thought it was fine, & a decent enough room overall. a smaller room in a gentrified, kinda downtrodden area of the city. (i'm not used to downtown renovations, so kinda echh) the room was furnished spartanly, but that's ok. i'm there for a day or 2, who cares. it was clean and the bathroom had very modern fixtures that worked pretty well. and a minifridge. the rate, relatively inexpensive, that's the main thing. i paid extra for a private bath.
hidden fee, they charge extra for parking, plus taxes.
it's in chinatown, obviously, near downtown. near yonge street and spadina.
it was close to various stuff i was doing, including less than a mile from the main venue. had i been less lazy and more familiar, and it hadn't rained, i coulda walked to some stuff, and saved exorbitant downtown parking fees.
the directions for checking in were a bit confusing and on site it was difficult to get the people there to assist. thankfully, i think, a bunch of people showed up right after me, so we got their attention. english, not great.
then, we had to go around the block to the back to park the car, off an alley behind the building, the area was weedy and a bit unkept. bit of an insect problem, too. spiders, flies. the alley to the front and the side exterior of the building also. enjoy
