Guest Reviews
- Angel Ho (2/5): - Dame bad and dirty, only two bts of water and shower gel, dirty towel
- Satinder Singh (10/5): - Very near to transport hub (KOMTAR) which made it very convenient to go everywhere. The only downside is that the checkin desk is at their sister property about a five minute walk. Also did not notice any elevator. The above two points were not an issue for me but may be a concern for people with mobility issues. The property is well maintained and very clean. Checkin and checkout was very smooth. I enjoyed my stay of four nights and would use them again if need be.
- MOHD ISMI ASWALY (4/5): - I have experience staying in self-check in hotels before this, but this one was terrible. Despite having to make 3 rounds in jammed traffic just to find a car park, I also been told to get my room key at the other 118 hotel right once I arrived at the reception counter. Although the uncle who worked at the counter wanted to help me riding his bike, that 118 hotel staff refused and still asked me to get it for myself. Finally I got my room key after having a debate to allow that uncle to ride his bike to do his job.
- Kim Chi (8/5): - Clean hotel. Bath towels, hand towels and bath mat. Soap dispenser in shower. Soap bar also provided. Air conditioner, fan, hot water and wifi work well. Don’t forget to flick the switch outside the bathroom to activate the air conditioner and hot water. Water bottles provided. Also water dispenser (cold and hot) near reception with coffee and mugs. Saw umbrellas also. Good movies on TV. Tan (reception lady) very nice and polite. Do try Kuantan rd morning market, Cecil st food court, Friday night market van praagh and Ais Tingkap. Free CAT bus from Komtar around Georgetown, last stop at ferry. Then it starts again at the ferry to Komtar in a slightly different direction due to one war streets. Chowrasta market also has hawker stalls in the alley in the morning. Do not go to New Lane hawker food - overpriced and not the best in flavour. You will not be able to sit unless you buy a drink.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The only thing I didn’t like was that there were no windows in the room. The staff were fantastic and we even stayed an extra night. It was so convenient to everything in downtown Penang.
- Winnie (10/5): - Nice staff, enjoyed our stay, thanks. No bottle of water but a water dispenser at the front
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Still okay. Room very small. No hair dryer in the room
- SULIANA (10/5): penginapan yang baik - penginapan yang baik.pekerja hotel yang ramah, service baik
- ong (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff are very pleasant helpful and friendly. Its close to all amenities. Good value
- Bridgette (8/5): Nice and economic hotel - The staff are friendly and helpful. Hotel condition is good and clean. Worth the price. Good for short stay.
- Yenie (6/5): Nice hotel, clean room - This hotel only 50 meter to shop at department store which we love its all reasonable price
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location - Hotel is close to most of the famous eateries. Most are just walking distance from the hotel.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not a comfortable stay. Bed is not clean. No parking
- alang (8/5): gud stay - gud stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Sean (6/5): My one night stay - Came here due to its location as it is near time square. However, the room is really tiny and towels were not clean (spotted black stain and with holes). Hotel room is warm as we can't keep the air-conditioner on when we are out.
- Stephen (8/5): - The hotel was good, very clean and comfortable and located in an area that is well serviced by supermarkets, transport, a variety of food stalls and small cafes, and a laundry across the road. The room was bigger than I expected. Communications were a bit of an issue - I couldn't get any hotel wifi reception on my iPad or mobile phone reception in my room, admittedly not major problems but annoying.
I wasn't all that impressed at getting hit with a further 8 ringgit "government tax" on top of what I had already paid with my reservation through Hotels.com. It's only 8 ringgit and perhaps a state tax in Penang (??) but no other hotel I stayed at in Malaysia found it necessary to pull that stunt.
All said, it was a good hotel, clean, comfortable and safe and offers great value for money.
- Kah (10/5): Holiday with husband and in-laws - Good value for money. Stayed 3 nights, was on holiday with husband and in-laws. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hot and cold water dispenser in the lobby. Hot shower, air conditioning, TV, good size room. Walking distance to the small local market (Kuantan Market), eateries (on New Lane), shopping malls (M Mall and Penang Times Square) . Easy to get around.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice clean room. Very small space and area to put bags on floor.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nearby most places - Its a convenient location to be staying on your trip to Penang.
- mehmet cagri (6/5): So so 118 - Very small room. No where to put luggages. Complementary coffee at the entrance but only with sugar. Location is central. Wifi was ok but not super.
- Mike (8/5): Budget hotel close to the bus terminal... - My room had no windows and there was no breakfast included; but the hotel and room were both clean and the price was right. There were at least two 118 hotels in town. This one was close to the main bus terminal. So it was easy to get to Batu Ferringhi beach and to/from the airport. Everywhere else in Georgetown I walked to...
- Sarosh (6/5): Budget and clean hotel. - Nice budget hotel for a short stay with great location near KOMTAR and friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): comfortable hotel - Cean room and good location.Near Perangin Mall and First Avenue
- Tan (6/5): Convenient and reasonably clean hotel. - Tea making facility is missing.
Pillows stink.
Toilet seat need to be fixed.
Towels not replaced after roon serviced.
- Kam Fai (10/5): Business visit - Nice, close distance to destination Komtar
- Verified traveler (8/5): Close to City. Walking Distance. - Only thing is no parking. Need to park at road side.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very good location.Excellent staff - Hotel near Komtar.Easy to go anywhere in Penang.Good and clean room.Excellent staff.I would like to thank you Mr.Boon ,hotel staff for very kindly service.
- muhammad saifuddin (8/5): recommended hotel - value for money. the only issue is parking...
- Verified traveler (6/5): Just location and friendly staff - To stay in without window room is terrible.
But location is very nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good value - Room small, but clean staff helpful.
- M (8/5): new hotel - The place is still new. It is very clean and spacious.
- How Kiat (8/5): - Hotel was clean and nice, located just a traffic from the main bus interchange (Komtar). Only thing that could have been better was the room size. Got a double room at the end, was really small, saw other rooms which are slightly larger. Nevertheless, still a good choice for budget travellers
- meizing (8/5): Nice & clean place to stay - The room is nice and clean ..feel comfort when staying with my husband.
- TIONG BENG (6/5): Holiday @ Penang - The hotel was in central location within 5 minutes walking distance to KOMTAR, Avenue 1 Mall, Pragin Mall, Gama Mall & nearby eateries. The 3 bad things about this hotel is that the common hallway was not ventilated (no airon nor fan), no refrigerator in room & lots of mosquitos in the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good service and location is central. We booked the hotel located at jalan dato keramat but they upgraded us to the newer hotel at new lane as they had a power shutdown the day we check in. The upgrade is a pleasant surprise :)
- ELICIA (10/5): Good , comfortable , good for value - The hotel services are good and we have a pleasant stay. However, during our 1st night of stay, the opposite room was noisy by speaking very loud and the wall was not a noisy protected wall. The area for improvement is the pillow. The pillow was super soft and the heater was not enough hot especially when after the 1st person shower. The place are near will 3 shopping mall, food lane.
- Adam (8/5): Good stay. - I stayed for 3 nights. Very good staff, welcoming, friendly and helpful. Good location, close to shopping mall, local restaurants and free bus that takes you into Georgetown. Decent price, good value. Shame there was no window in the room I was in, however, overall I was very happy with 118 and I would recommend it... and I would stay there again.
- Samuel (10/5): great place for a short holiday - Rooms were clean and neat. only that finding a parking is hard
- airayaya (8/5): Far from the heart of georgetown - The staff was friendly and nice. You can ask them about directions around Georgetown. Our room do not have window. Don't repeat our mistake by walking from jetty to the hotel! Ride the CAT bus (free shuttle!) from jetty and hop off at Komtar. The hotel is not too far from Komtar, look out for GAMA, the hotel is just along that mall.
- You Mao (10/5): Penang 3 days trip - Friendly and helpful staffs make me like home...Good for family trip
- Xavier (10/5): Excellence no frills hotel, great location! - Excellent no frills hotel in a great location near to Komtar (5 mins walk), GAMA shopping centre (1 min walk), 1st Avenue (7 mins walk), street foods (one is nearby at Sunway Hotel), Kaki Kaki foot massage (10 mins walk, need to pass Times Square), near to take free bus (CAT) at Komtar to move around inside George Town, nearby bus stop 7 for Hop On-Hop Off Tourist bus. Very friendly and helpful staff. Do note that if the hotel with window faces the road it could be noisy for a light sleeper. Dark curtains, few ASTRO TV channels, no fridge, no safe, no tooth brushes, just a few things to take note if staying. Water heater with good water pressure and a shower gel attached. Clean room, clean sheets and clean towels. Value-for-money no frills hotel. Great stay!
- Lily (10/5): - Very convenient to city center.& easy access to bus terminal & eateries.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Thumb up - Great location, so near to shopping complex and also easy to find good food nearby.
- Sor Peng (8/5): - I am Sandra, and I had a pleasent stay in 118. It is very convenient to go to the place i wanted to go. The hospitality was awesome. Room was clean, new..very rare to have the choices of 'cooling'..wall fan and aircond. Overall..it was really nice. I would love to stay there again next time:)
- Michael (2/5): Bad experience. - The room is small, water drainage in the bathroom cubicle is slow (most probably clog slightly) and the aircon is noisy when in use. There are mosquitos in the room. Climbing up the stairs with the luggage is not helpful at all. Moved out after the first night even the 2nd night was paid for.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Short 3 days stay - It was a pleasant stay at 118 hotel. The hotel staffs were friendly and helpful. The room was just nice for three persons but it was comfy. Nice private bathroom. Occasionally some loud noise from the corridor otherwise quiet most of the time.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Relatively good location with excellent service - The reception is of extremely good service, since he proactively gave us travel information on where to eat, what to see in the region. The room is clean overall, however, there are quite a no. of mosquitoes inside the room when we first checked in. Besides, the double bed room is really small and it is hardly able to put a suitcase on the floor. U may need to spend 10 min walk to lower part of Penang Road, and it is better for you to go to Komtar directly from the hotel (7 min walk) and take the free of charge bus to go to other parts of the heritage town or airport or other parts of Penang, otherwise, you may need to take at least 20 min walk to reach most of the attractions in the heritage town. Therefore, depending on what you wish to see, the location of the hotel is not bad indeed -- because of its proximity to Komtar. One last recommendation is that you can try to watch a movie at Komtar during your stay, as it only costs you USD 3 to watch the latest movie in the cinema! It's really good value!
- Koh (8/5): Clean and comfort. :) - It's a pleasant stay at 118. With the price, the hotel has fulfilled all our expectation. Clean, quiet (although) it's along the street, friendly staff who advice us on how we should go around in Georgetown. My cousin went back to the hotel again last week.
- Shafira (10/5): - Overall our stay was enjoyable. We would like to come and visit again soon.
- Verified traveler (10/5): New hotel. Good location. - Close to where free shuttle bus station to Georgetown old area was. The hotel opened for about half an year only so facilities were clean and functionable. TV was available. Fox movies could be watched.
Clean and tidy. (except the tiny cockroach) Nice staff who offer useful tourist information.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cheap and clean family fun hotel; value for money - Stayed between for 3 nights in March 2015. It is a converted shop house run by a mum + dad + son team. The dad and mum speak decent English, however the son is less proficient and was hard to communicate with when I required something. All 3 of them are very friendly however and will happily recommend spots and places of interest and where the good places to eat are.
Rooms were clean, if a little basic. The option to have an additional pillow would have been welcome. Service was top notch however: the soap dispenser was broken when I entered, however it was replaced virtually immediately after I brought it to their attention.
The hotel does require a RM50 deposit at check-in, which they can also perform a hold on a credit card for. The hold on my credit card was lifted after 2 days, unlike other hotels I have stayed where it can take weeks for the hold to be lifted.
The room uses some energy saving function that detects if the room card is in the slot, so the old trick of putting paper to keep the air-conditioning running does not work. The air-conditioning does cool the room reasonably timely enough, and it is understandable that they would want to keep electricity costs down; however after a hot and sweaty day out in Penang coming back to a cool room would be nice.
Free internet via wifi is available in the place. Speeds can be quite variable.
At the price it was hard to complain, and would definitely stay here again when I'm next in Penang.
- Lee (10/5): good budget hotel - very good
- Ming Lok (6/5): ok for the price - overall clean and nice bathroom except shower can be hotter, decent bedroom size and cleanliness satisfying. noisy in the morning both staffs and other guests, meaning poor sound proofing. staff service alright. location is close to Komtar mall where theres main bus routes. is ok for the price.
- jean (10/5): Separate shower with door nvery clean and good - Both of us enjoy the stay there, is really affordable and worth to pay. Staff are very helpful giving us advise. Thanks to the lady at the reception. Only thing is can hear the door close and open from those family with two or more room. These people must learn to be considerate as is a small hotel. Thump up to 118 hotel. If I will to go again to Penang will book again.
- cheng huat (6/5): Near Bus interchange , but..... - Near the Bus interchange , hotel rate are reasonable , however, the hotel does not have lift as it is only two story , plus i saw some mosquito inside the room .
- Po Ming (8/5): Value for money - We enjoyed the stay in the hotel very much because the staff (Edwin & Ms Yeung) are very helpful. They can arrange to collect the laundry on our behalf even the hotel doesn't have any laundry facility. Walking distance (5 min) to night hawker center. Ease to catch the bus to george town.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Eeverything is ok - Near city central, many food area
many shopping center.
- Verified traveler (8/5): No-frills but clean hotel - Small and clean no-frills hotel. Near alot of eating places as well as shopping malls (1st Avenue, Prangin Mall and Komtar)
- Verified traveler (8/5): overall nice to stay especially near to town - I booked 2 rooms via expedia.com then i sent mail to hotel to request the arrangement of the rooms are beside each others thank you so much to the perfect arrangement.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Enjoy the stay - The Hotel is fairly new, room is clean and good customer service. Overall not bad. :)
- Verified traveler (6/5): hotel near city - new hotel
limited parking space
no line for maxis and digi
poor sound proof, could hear chit chat sound from front desk even i stay at 5th room from the front desk
- Verified traveler (8/5): Centralize and convenience location. - Overall, this hotel is value for money. The rooms are clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Easy and comfort place - easy to locate the place(Hotel 118)is next to Gama department store and Komtar, from hotel 118 is easy to get local transport
- Verified traveler (8/5): Modern budget hotel near historic George Town. - Hotel is clean and modern. Rooms are no frills, but have everything the budget traveller needs. About a 3km walk to historic part of town.
- abdullah (8/5): Fantastic service ad great location - The 118 hotel is consider cheap and worthy and front desk reception very nice and friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice, clean, no-frills hotel - This is a brand-new (2 months) nice, clean, no-frills hotel in the city centre. It is just beside KOMTAR. The is truly no-frills. All you get is a clean room with comfortable beds, clean washroom and shower with hot water, air-conditioning, TV with few local channels, CNBC and Fox movies. Hair dryer, ironing table and other accessories are available on request. There is no restaurant on premise. However, there are many restaurants, including 24-hr McDonalds, within 2 minutes walk. I stayed with my wife and two children. Since we were busy all day exploring the city and returned to the hotel only to take a hot shower and sleep, we were happy with what we got.
The staff were always nice and smiling. Gave us tips on exploring the city, helped us with city parking cards. I was happy.
- Yvonne (10/5): Fantastic Hotel & Service - We were finding a reasonable yet clean hotel in georgetown and this was the perfect choice for us! Not only is the hotel rooms are clean, hotel staffs were very helpful, very accomodating to all our requests and assist in our itinerary in penang! Definitely worth every cent!
- Mr. & Mrs. Wong (10/5): Real pearl in Georgetown - We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel near to the Georgetown heritage site and we found 118 Hotel. The Manager told us it was only opened two months ago and naturally, we found all the facilities in the room very new and tidy. One of the important facilities we always hoped for in a hotel room is to have a home-styled split unit air-con in which the temperature, fan-speed and air-swing could be well adjusted for our comfort, and this hotel has it. The TV channels available are much better than many other big hotels. Even the towels are fragranted.
Mr. Koay, the person in-charge was very helpful for lending us his personal laptop in the middle of the nite when we had to make an emergency flight booking. Wonderful experience overall.
- terry to (10/5): Great hotel and locations - Very very clean and convenient to places to eat and shop
