- Verified traveler (8/5): It's not in Colchester Town. - As the hotel location information (map and local access info) was about the King's Arms in Colchester town on the Hotels.com website, I initially went there where I was told that I was at a wrong King's Arms and that they did not have any rooms. The King's Arms I had booked turned out to be the one 40-minute bus ride away from Colchester town. The correct King's Arms was a nice place to stay offering great food. My room was fine in size and very clean but adjusting the shower was a little tricky and there was nowhere to hang/put my clothes. And the pub guests talked just outside my room occasionally during the night--was not too bad as the pub closes at 10pm.

Food very good. (Dinner and breakfast) staff very friendly and all pleasant.

The Pub is nice and the service for breakfast, lunch and dinner was very nice. Everyone was super friendly.

- Hayley (2/5): AWFUL! Do not stay here - My stay at this hotel was awful. I stayed here on business and had many problems. I stay in 70/80 hotels per year and have never had to complain like this. I was aware just before arrival that they weren’t offering Breakfast or any Evening Meals which was less than ideal in the location. However I had several other issues but to name a few: No milk available for tea or coffee on request Room freezing, no radiators in room and wall unit not on before arrival so I spent 4 hrs having to wear my coat in my room. I left the heater on over night on 28 degrees to get it warm. Exit/Fire Safety lights in room. Large green lights that lit up the room all night so I was unable to sleep. I have never seen this before in any hotel so this needs to be corrected. On checkout the lady I spoke to couldn’t have cared less and didn’t take any of my feedback on board. Hotels.com shouldn’t currently be advertising this hotel as it is not fit for purpose with all the renovations taking place.

The rooms have recently been refurbished so they were beautiful and the bed was very comfy. I had an amazing sleep and beautiful food as I chose to eat in the Kings Arms that evening. - Greg (10/5): Completely refurbished rooms. - Wedding anniversary trip. Could not have been better. Visited Colchester and Flatford Mill first day. Southend Pier and South Essex second day. Rooms are brand new and have big showers in bathroom and 4 to 5 feet of space either side of the bed. Smart TV which I connected to my phone for YouTube and Netflix. Air conditioning and vaulted ceilings. Rooms are soundproofed. The window looks not at the road but out to a cornfield which when we stayed had haystacks in it. Staff were marvellous. Best 2 day getaway I have had in ages.

- David (10/5): A little gem - I chose this property instead of the usual chains i stay in for work a wasn't dissapointed. The rooms look like their brand new, carpets are soft and springly, aircon works really well and beds are very comfy plus virtually no road noise. Free wifi also works well but can sign you out from time to time but no major hassle. Cooked breakfast is well done, cooked to order and you can have whatever you want. Only challenge is when you leave your pulling onto a busy fast road so takes a while to get the gap tou need but thats not the pubs fault. All in all a lovely place and ill definately be staying there again.

- Lorraine (6/5): Welcoming pub - but traffic noise very loud - Really friendly hosts but even ear plugs could not drown out the noise of lorries thundering down the A120. One bedside light for twin beds and no door on the bedroom. Shame as the pub has a very welcome feel, wood burner in the bar. Rooms at the back are being refurbished - would say don’t stay in the front if you want a good nights sleep.
- Michael (8/5): The Kings Arms on the a120 - My rooms was a good size with a desk and chair for doing some work in the evenings. The bed was comfortable, the room clean and plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits. The menu was a little restricted but the food good and enough choice to have something different each evening for my four night stay. There is some building work going on currently, which will turn this place from a good place to stay, to a great place to stay. One thing to note, if your a light sleeper, some earplugs might be worth taking as the a120 does get noisy fairly early.

Our room was clean and well stocked with towels, beds were also very comfy. Despite the road noise we both slept quite well. One highlight of the stay had to be the breakfast, very tasty indeed! The staff were all helpful and friendly when we interacted. Please remember that this IS on the main A120. You WILL get road noise throughout the night. I was rather amazed how many trucks went past at irregular intervals all night. I'm sure on a longer stay you'd get used to it, but a couple of nights wasn't really enough. I don't know if it was worse because I was outside of the pub itself, but bear this in mind.

- Verified traveler (8/5): The Biggest Friendliest Welcome - Stayed here for one night as I was going to a wedding around the corner. I received the warmest welcome with the friendliest of staff who were all family. The room was comfortable and for an old building still had everything I needed. The breakfast was delicious and generous.

- Mark (8/5): Excellent old fashioned small country pub. - Enjoyable one night stay. The only downside is the very busy A120 on which the pub is located. I am a light sleeper and had difficulty getting off due to constant traffic noise all through the night. However I was aware of this from reading other reviews so I am not making a big issue of it. Staff were very pleasant. Breakfast excellent.
