Guest Reviews
- Ian (8/5): Good value for a short stay - Located in the centre of a pretty village. Our room overlooked the castle entrance and moat. The room was comfortable, clean and the shower was very efficient. As we expected the house was old and dark, so very atmospheric but the bedroom needed a little more electric light. What there was hardly made any difference.
- Vanderpump (3/5): Would not recommend it to others - The bed was comfortable and it was quiet Scaffolding outside window, misleading photo on booking.com, the front door was immediately on a busy road, the first B&B which I have stayed at which doesn’t serve breakfast, bin in bathroom not emptied from previous guest, used tissue under the bed, tired decor. Staircase was dangerously steep.

- Gail (8/5): -
- Richard (8/5): Very comfortable. Would definitely stay again. -
- Keith (8/5): A great place for a pleasant overnight stay. - Location was excellent for the fair we had attended. The cottage has a great outlook as it faces( and our room) Whittington castle. The cottage shares the car park with the pub next door which also provides breakfast from 8.00. There is another pub which also does meals a very short walk up the road. My wife wasn't keen on the stairs.
- RICHARD (8/5): - Was perfect for my needs Would use again Many thanks
- Jean (10/5): Great weekend break - Good location owner very friendly and helpful.
- Jonathan (9/5): Comfortable and welcoming - Easy to find, good parking, friendly proprietor, generous sized room, comfortable bed, great view of castle, good value. Road noise (ear plugs provided).
- Ian (10/5): - Perfect for my needs - a quiet place to stay when volunteering nearby
- Tom (9/5): Great accomodation and view of the Castle. - I got informed we were right next to a restaurant. Cats.
- Diane (8/5): Excellent xxx - We had a lovely stay hospitality very good Debbi’s was loverly thank you xx
- Maria (10/5): -
- Anne Marie (10/5): Lovely Hosts, Debbie & Janette. Spotless x Homely x - Location is situated on a main road, but it’s not a busy road, in a village. Opposite a castle and moat, with ducks and beautiful scenery.
The old Boote pub, is across the car park on the same side, and serves delicious food, and great staff serving. N/A
- Teri (10/5): Excellent location and immaculate property. - We liked the ambience, with its quaint cottage vibes and proximity to locations of historical importance. Aqueducts, castles, ironworks to name a few. The only thing of note to us is that we personally found the mattress too soft for our preference.
But this to others would not be noticed.
- Claire (8/5): Very comfortable, + very helpful host. - Looking out on the castle + water. The stairs up to the attic bedroom.
- Diana (8/5): -
- Robert (7/5): Good -
- Steven (8/5): Very good - Lovely spot opposite the castlte and next door to a country pub. Traffic noise
- Jones (5/5): Sadly...not suitable for oldies with mobility issues. - No breakfast offered but the Olde Boote Inn next door does a magnificent breakfast at a very reasonable price.
The location is stunning. Historic building full of character. Plenty of hot water and good shower. Host very pleasant. We love cats and have two of our own. Unfortunately the resident cat at Fitzwarine House was not trained. It was disappointing to find it perched on the dining tables and the smell of cat wee whilst in bed was quite off putting.
Whilst the building was absolutely charming and full of delightful olde worlds quirks we found the steep, narrow stairs difficult . It was a hands and knees job for me sometimes! The crooked old beams made us laugh. Anything we placed on the dressing table slid off. The floor was so creaky and uneven we felt like we'd gone for a cruise on an ancient schooner. Definitely not suitable for those with mobility issues!
- Kate (7/5): Good -
- Walter (9/5): If on the area again, would stay at Fitzwarine House Again. - Fitzwarinw House did not do breakfasts but the proprietor recommended Ye Old Boote inn which was next door for a breakfast which on my opinion was good value for money.
- Moyosore (9/5): Superb -
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Debbie (8/5): Excellent location overlooking the castle and easily accessible on public transport - Lovely views of the castle from the bedroom. Very comfortable bed
- Nick (9/5): Superb -
- Danny (7/5): Nice welcome, very comfortable bed - Very nice, lots of character Very creaky floors .. but that’s just being picky !
My room had a great view of the castle
- Billy (10/5): Amazing would definately come back - Property is very well looked after views are stunning and host very friendly
- Sally-ann (7/5): Short stay for a parkrun tourism. - Great location for what we needed. Comfortable.
- Daniel (8/5): Very good -
- Jane-louise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanne (7/5): Suited our needs. - Host was lovely. A bit dark inside. Beds were comfy and it was nice to see a bath, as most places only have showers. Towels were a bit musty. Would have been nice to have had a full English breakfast.
- Johnson (9/5): Try it you'll be rewarded - The position opposite the castle was delightful. Able to watch the birds messing about on the water.. The room was cosy and nicely furnished and very clean. Host helpful and kind. Stairs could be a bit of a problem to some travellers
- Jones (6/5): Convenient location for my stay as visiting family. Different experience from staying in large hote. - Breakfast was basic but satisfactory. Owner was welcoming and accommodating. The stairs were difficult and very narrow but manageable, especially with luggage to carry.
- Vicky (10/5): A Complete Gem 💎 - Spotlessly clean! Great warm welcome from Debbie. Amazing property, full of character and great to see these qualities in a building today. A home from home. Thank you 😊
- Nikki (9/5): Superb -
- Stephen (8/5): Very good - Location No breakfast
- Wayne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Iz (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (8/5): Weekend stay - Nice welcome from owner. Stairs are steep and irregular. We stayed on second floor. My metal frame bed was noisy and soft mattress. Room clean and tidy. Breakfast extra but go to pub next door for more choices/value. Unsuitable for those with access problems. Car park adjacent in corner of pub car park. My corner shower had high step in and was snug...
- Marilyn (3/5): Disappointing base for a short break. - No breakfast offered No WiFi in my room. Lounge shabby. I was taking a short break and was looking forward to down time at the B&B but lounge was shabby. No access to garden which it looked like from advert. No WiFi in my room.
- Danni (9/5): Superb - Location beautiful & peaceful. Phone signal poor in the Village.
Could mention when booking.
- Richard (6/5): Too out of the way. Weather not good. - Close to two pubs Steep narrow steps. Very creaky floorboards.
- Aaron (9/5): Very pleasant stay with a warm atmosphere and beautiful room - Very clean and cute little to with everything we needed. Nothing comes to mind
- Colin (7/5): Good -
- Paul (8/5): Very good - The area and view Too close too road noisy.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - the view from the room looking over the castle ruins and village duck pond was picture perfect.
- Richard (8/5): Overall it suited us well - No cooked breakfast suited us, good choice of cereals and fruit. Plenty of toast, including gluten free as requested pre arranged. Lovely view from room over castle and watching ducks. R and B Some traffic noise if the window was open.
- Shaun (8/5): Worked out great for my purpose. - Comfortable bed and very clean room. Nothing really.
- Lindsay (10/5): Very nice and near a couple of very nice pubs. - Lovely. Very pleased and had a lovely stay.
- Regina (8/5): Very good -
- Patricia (10/5): Excellent B & B - Landlady welcoming friendly nothing too much trouble. Very relaxing. Room excellent clean.
Ideal location for visiting attractions in area. Nothing everything 5 star.
Not like chain hotels personal touch.
- Stuart (8/5): Very good -
- Sheila (7/5): Very pleasant stay. - Breakfast was fine for us, though not a great deal of choice. We already knew there would be no cooked food.
The location was lovely, opposite the castle with swans and ducks in the moat.
Although an old property, the en-suite facilities were excellent.
Our hostess was welcoming and helpful. The property used to be 2 cottages (an interesting building). Although we managed fine, I think the stairs might be an issue for some people.
- Austin (8/5): Very good -
- Yasmine (8/5): HONEST REVIEW 😉 - The house is a very lovely old building. It has nice features and old features which does show but still makes it look nice. The lady who owned the property was very nice and easy going, quite helpful if you need anything. I stayed in room 5, which was cosy and warm. Breakfast is available on request which was told to me when I arrived. If you want breakfast you need to let the lady know so she can prepare it for the morning, don't just expect breakfast if you have not requested it, which makes reasonable sense. However I did not request any as I was out most days from early. There are not many places to eat around the area, apart from two pubs which are extremely expensive and you don't get much for your money. Other than that the house is very clean, the cats stay out of your way. I had a good stay. Quiet in the evenings. The WiFi does connect in the property, and I had no issues with it. The part that I did not like about the property is that the bed was very squeaky, which made me paranoid as I kept thinking I was waking the person up below me, when I moved in the bed.
- Hughes (6/5): Pleasant - Area beautiful and the pub next door which was handy and the parking Price it cost for 2 people was a bit much for one night even though we didn't turn up till afternoon and no breakfast on offer in the morning when it's is called a bnb. House is strange but OK for one night. But great location for walking round
- Regina (9/5): Superb -
- Jennifer (7/5): Nice owner but wouldn’t stay again due to nil internet service - Great location Terrible internet service… actually didn’t work really. Bed old and very sqeaky…
- Roy (8/5): All round good stay for the night - Home from home and Debbie the owner was very pleasant.
- Pauline (9/5): I would certainly stay there again. - My room had a beautiful view opposite a church with a lovely little pond. My room was warm and cozy and am glad I didn't book into a commercial hotel.
Debs the owner was very friendly and helpful and the cats were no bother at all. They kept themselves to themselves and were not the slightest intrusive.
There are also 2 pubs that serve food within walking distance so you can leave the car behind and be entertained. There was nothing to dislike. I did not require breakfast so it didn't matter that there was none served.
- Martin (9/5): Good value for money - Clean and tidy Nothing to dislike
- George (9/5): It was quiet and convenient. - the cats. nothing
- Farhan (7/5): Good -
- Pauline (10/5): Exceptional - Room clean comfy bed Noisy floor boards but is an old building
- Ian (10/5): Perfect stay in Shropshire. - This is a perfect Shropshire hide away with a superb location just a few minutes away from Oswestry. I loved being directly opposite Whittington castle. Such a beautiful place to be.
There is also a great fish and chip shop and two really nice pubs that serve great beer and food only a very short walk away. Perfect sized rooms and bathroom. Highly recommended. 5 star.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tina (10/5): We loved it, so relaxed, gutted I missed all the cays❤️ - Location Nothing❤️
- Gillian (9/5): Superb -
- George (8/5): quite and serene and nice cats.. - very nice cats. Nothing.
- Philippa (9/5): Great location and friendly. - Excellent location - my room overlooked the castle. Parking was easy in the pub next door and all information was given before arrival. All good
- Loredana (1/5): Bad -
- Whitney (8/5): Ideal for a short break - Breakfast was cereal, fruit, yoghurt and toast which was fine Suited us for a short stay
- Marilyn (8/5): Good place to stay before hospital appointments. - Easy to find, convenient to pubs. Hostess very accommodating. Also 5 minutes away from hospital where surgery was scheduled. Traffic noise, but it wasn’t a big problem during night. Earplugs were even provided!
- Martin (6/5): Disappointed - Quint Noisy No Internet in our Room 3
Asked for receipt of payment Debbie owner failed to send me it as promised
She seems tired doing Business
- Jeffrey (4/5): Disappointing - Cereals breakfast was quite reasonable Located on a busy main road, right outside the room. Plus very creaky floor boards above.
- Bumpo269 (8/5): Very good -
- George (10/5): As a package this is brilliant. - A real hidden jem in a small village with lots of facilities. Opposite the Castle and duck pond. Not far to lots of tourist hotspots and when you get back plenty of free parking.
Its an old building with creaking floorboards but that odds to the charm.
- Kerry (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful quirky little B&B. Fab location and room over looking the castle.
- Colin (8/5): Very good -
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jane (9/5): A warm welcome, and nice room. Very clean. - A stunn8ng location opposite to the castle
- Grace (10/5): Relaxing , the room was so pretty and bed was so comfortable I asked Debbie if I could take it home - The Host Debbie was so friendly and helpful,
I Didn’t have breakfast as I had an early Hospital appointment Nothing to fault , Debbie was so helpful and friendly
- Donal (10/5): Exceptional - The location was perfect. Didn't have the breakfast . Left for work early Nothing
- Justin (9/5): Superb -
- Christy (9/5): Superb -
- Keenlyside (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ian (6/5): Pleasant few days with good nearby pubs for food and refreshment - Overlooking the village pond/moat and castle. Next door to a very good pub with another down the road. Bed comfy. This was a pleasant stay in a quirky old house.
- Peter (8/5): Greatly helpful in my difficult circumstances. - No breakfast. Service was kind and professional. No issues.
- Sterry G (10/5): - Property had many original features, ensuite facilities very helpful and light breakfast good value. Host very hospitable
- Darren (9/5): Perfectly fine. - Lovely old house with old features.
- Robin (10/5): Exceptional - A very nice place to stay. See
- Irene (8/5): Very good -
- Mr (7/5): Good -
- Rodger (7/5): Good -
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (8/5): Very good -
- Annette (9/5): I stayed for one night and was able to go home refreshed the next morning. - The location was excellent as Fitzwarine House is opposite Whittington Castle and my room had a really good view. The room was comfortable and had all the facilities I needed.
- Louise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roger (10/5): welcoming, beautiful setting, snug and clean - With a full view of a classic British castle and moat, including a range of water birds Very snug and compact with winding passageways, so perhaps less good for those with mobility challenges
