It’s clearly a very, v - Completely unique, beautiful property with so many delightful details. I want to try all of the rooms! I would’ve loved having coffee available in the room, but I appreciate that it was available by the check-in.

The owners and staff are kind and accommodating.

- Elaine (9/5): We are grateful for all that we experienced at Les Artistes in March 2026 and over the past 30 years. We look forward to - The owners and staff are welcoming, honest, and forthright. Morning coffee. Iconic design with a different theme based on the work of classic, international master artists; the enthusiastic architect who designed this charming inn was on-site to show us details and the meaning of her work in DelMar. Beauty and art meet practical function, a short walk to the beach and to shops, cafes, and restaurants in Del Mar. One of a kind, original concept executed successfully to endure through time. Bathroom needs updating.
- shirley (6/5): Fully enjoyable - Staying here is an experience, not just a hotel stay. The inn keeper was welcoming and friendly in a way one would find in a European inn. Other guests are friendly, and there were some fun dogs to interact with. Our room was ordinary, but we were shown several other rooms that were beautifully designed, with mosaics and unique designs everywhere. Very artistic and not at all commercial. The "lobby" was the main entry way, and was small and conducive to guests interacting. It had a table and chairs, and a few upholstered chairs and sofa, with a fireplace. Coffee was available there, made by the innkeeper, and was exceptional. I hope this reveiw gives a feel for this inn. It is not for a traveler who wants a comfortable, short hotel stay. It is not luxurious, but it is artistic and lovely, and meant for a traveler who has time to relax in the vibe there. This is an informal place! Communication with guests could improve. We did not know there was coffee until we explored a bit, and guests should be encouraged to explore to fully appreciate the treasures throughout.

Would stay again!
- Erica (10/5): This was a beautiful stay in the Georgia O’Keefe room with a phenomenal owner! She’s brilliant! - There are so many details and personal touches here. Come open minded and sense what it is you are meant to discover here!
- Kevin (7/5): -
- Sai (10/5): -
- Marcia (9/5): - Me agradou muito a localização o acolhimento da Sra dona do local , me mostrou todas as artes feita por ela no piso , paredes !
Lugar muito aconchegante! Mesmo que li nos outros comentário !
- Brenda (6/5): A once-charming hotel that needs updating. - The location was excellent-walking distance to shops and restaurants in Del Mar. I loved the balcony opening to the court yard. The artist-themed rooms is a great idea, and was probably charming years ago when the hotel was new. Though adequately clean, the walls were dingy. The decor hadn’t been dusted in a long time. The bathroom, well…black and unappealing. The place needs updating.
- Lisa (10/5): -
- Marcella (10/5): I know the room that has the best ocean view, love staying here. - My room was funky with a clawfoot tub next to the bed. LOL But the view from the tiny balcony was wonderful. The moon was becoming full and at about 5am it looks like it drops into the ocean. The tile work of the place is beautiful, thanks to owner John, with the sparkling blue eyes. You can walk to everywhere in DelMar but beware that most of the sidewalks have been removed by the uber rich who have torn down so many of the the cottages from 1930-50s to build their ugly mansions. I live here in the 1970s and it was a different world than it is today. Way too many people. Yes this place is a little dusty but it was clean otherwise.
- lou (9/5): -
- Nathanael (5/5): Rustic, ocean cabin feel. - Nice location in Del Mar. A few blocks away from the bluffs overlooking the ocean. Quaint and rustic. Room lacked glassware for water. A few parts of the room were a bit worn. Some lights in the room did not function.
- kathleen (10/5): - The artistic details are amazing. A very unique property that is completely charming and very convenient to all of the shops and restaurants in downtown Del Mar.
- shirel (6/5): Ok - Location was good and the place has character. The soak tub was a nice addition. Early morning noise from all the rooms so was awake from 6:30, the place could use touch up and the bed is too soft
- Jeff (10/5): -
- claude (10/5): -
- jeff (9/5): - The people who own the place are super super sweet and very, very nice, the room I booked ended up being on a second floor and I can't climb stairs. So they gave us the most expensive room. They have and they, you did give us a discount. But it was still more than you really wanted to spend and it would have be helpful if not just them but other hotels also told you what floor the room you're booking is on
The ambience is amazing There isn't anything to dislike
- Malory (9/5): -
- Tad (7/5): - I loved the theme, the decor, and the quaint character. The people were very nice. The place was a bit run down, surprisingly. At least the room I was in was. They're lacking attention to detail. I improve and restore buildings for a living so I may be a harsh critic. They are welcome to call me if they want feedback, suggestions or improvements.
- michael (8/5): - The theme of each room was unique and were thoughtfully laid out and included artful details. Solanna(?sp) was the artist in residence and was so interesting to talk with. Manager was a little brusque with us about check out time (11AM), having knocked on the door (11-02 AM) and saying "I thought you were out! showing his thumb behind his head. We were checking any missed items.
- Luanne (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): An oasis in the city. - Bananas, apples and oranges. And as a treat, a warmed cinnamon bun. All the sunshine through the skylights.
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Sharon (10/5): -
- Estella (10/5): Loved the very unique design - The hotel is the most unique hotel I have ever stayed at. Very artistic. Great location
- alyson (8/5): - Nice room and really liked the patio and view In the Bookings.com reservation it seemed like the room slept 3 people and that there was a separate bed, which is why I booked it. There was no separate bed so ended up having to share a king bed.
- Koppel (9/5): -
- Barton (10/5): -
- Sharon (8/5): - Pleasant, quickly, artsy inn. Great location!! Beds were hard
- Rita (10/5): Beautiful room and grounds - The facility was BEAUTIFUL. Loved all the artistic details! Our room was wonderful. The bed was super comfortable. The japanese bath was awesome. We loved the view from our balcony. Really appreciated the free coffee and fruit in the morning. The place was also very quiet. It was very well located within walking distance from the cliffs and restaurants. The grounds could use a little dusting and sweeping, but super lovely.
- Anthony (9/5): - N/A
- Qian (10/5): A great experience -
- Collin (9/5): Worth it and we will be back :) - Location was perfect. We walked to everything we wanted to do in Del Mar. Quick drive to La Jolla as well. Overall cool vibe. Don’t expect modern, sterile, spotless rooms. They have character and you can tell the building is older.. overall felt clean enough and comfortable!
- Greg (10/5): Amazing - Beautiful aesthetic, so unique and artsy Low toiletry supplies
- Barnes (10/5): Comfortable, cozy night, falling to sleep to the the sound of fountains in this artistic retreat. - I work one block away but my regular lodging was not available for one night. I've always admired how Les Artistes looked from the outside and was intrigued to know more. "Funky", historic, artistic, unique - delightful! The owner/operators were warm and welcoming. I would love to see and know more about the other rooms in this facility as well as the other one they operate in Del Mar - will save up to treat my daughter and grandchildren to a very special stay! Nothing was wrong or needed to be disliked.
- Nancy (10/5): Unique hotel that’s worth staying at in Del Mar! - I loved the entire place. Very close to the water. Easy on-site parking. Great location. The room was very comfortable and quiet. Loved the water feature outside and how it was decorated. Loved everything.
- Michele (10/5): -
- Craig (10/5): -
- Matthew (8/5): One of a kind and artistic. Could use a bit more TLC, but still may appeal to romantic couples and artistic solo travele - This hotel is unique! It represents a much higher degree of artistic vision in the use of thematic rooms centered on distant artists from around the world. It was nothing like today’s sterile box hotels. I ended up staying up late reading diary entries from past guests that were in a few notebooks. Personal retreats. Romantic escapes. Grief recovery. It was fascinating and I wondered how their lives have turned out. Clearly these rooms carry a history. As a creative person I enjoyed that. My room had a Japanese theme and some beautiful artistic flooring and wood shelving. One could hear the surf far down the hill. It was a kind tide week. While the artistic touches are everywhere, there was also much wear and tear (and dusty knick knacks) present in the room. Sheets felt worn.
- Diana (10/5): Wounderfu and affordable thank you - Awesome place Everything
- Crawford (8/5): -
- Emma (10/5): -
- Richard (10/5): -
- Guest (9/5): -
- Emberley (8/5): - Very cute, artsy, great views, ambiance. An absolutely perfect and wonderful stay if interesting, pretty, boutique, and quiet are your priorities, and you understand it is not a shiny new chain hotel. Not the most up to date facilities
- Silvia (7/5): - The location Expensive
- Fisher (9/5): -
- Liz (10/5): -
- Katrina (10/5): -
- elisabeth (6/5): Great location, better for leisure than business - Friendly and accommodating management. Great location. Ocean view. Not optimal for business traveler. Didn't have modern amenities needed for business traveller. A bit run down.
- Melissa (9/5): - Great location. Friendly staff. Very welcoming. Homey. Could be decluttered a bit. Take everything down…wipe it and put things back in new places. Easy refresh.
- CharanneM (8/5): Very nice and relaxing. - I don't think there was a breakfast. And the man who checked me in didn't inform me of coffee being available in the morning. I should have stayed longer so I could have used my balcony I was hoping for a bathtub.
- Maryann (7/5): Cosy but close to restaurants in Del Mar - Good location and close to restaurants and Del Mar coast. Parking included and the bed was comfortable. Very small room. Had to climb over the bed to get into king size bed as the bed is pushed up against the wall due to the tight space.
- CasSandra (10/5): - The unique setting
- Jacobson (10/5): Great stay, will come back - View from the room, and the architecture
- Merjel (5/5): - Cute little boutique hotel with very nice caretakers. Walkable location to restaurants, the beach, and nightlife in Del Mar. Wasn’t told about the ant problem that devoured food we left on the counter and the ceiling fan was covered in dust. Now we know why there are no trash bins in the room.
- Emilio (8/5): - We were so busy that we did not spend a lot of time on the property & leverage the amenities.
- Carol (10/5): -
- Miriam (9/5): -
- Ipek (10/5): One of the bests in SoCal Coast - The feeling is like a Japanese garden, relaxing & calm. By the ocean, in a very loved locations in north county San Diego. I was solo, had a meeting in downtown & had to prepare some paper work. In addition to location, it provided me a work space in the room, which was wonderful. Internet works amazing, my whole set-up smoothly worked till the dusk. The room is spacey too. It will always be special for me due to my meeting. Even there are small things that might catch your eye, overall it is a wonderful place with nice owners. So, those small things do not even bother you, you keep enjoying the vibes. However, I would be appreciated if there were more shelves in the bathroom.
- Kendrick (10/5): -
- Kain (9/5): - I loved this property, I will be back for sure. The room listed the bed as a king! But when
I arrived it was actually a queen.
- Lori (10/5): - Beautiful room!!
