Guest Reviews
- biak (10/5): - Good service
- Tahmawi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Edward (8/5): Nothing fancy but comfortable enough - A good spot when in town before traveling to the interior. It was a short walk to the bus station to Taman Negara.
- Mohamad (8/5): Very good -
- Aroon (5/5): Passable - Only the location and working AC 24/7. No cleaning, dirty washrooms.
- Sugath (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fiona (4/5): I would give 2 stars to this guesthouse for the ratings. - The location is strategic in terms of food & transport.
The bunk bed was stable, not shaky. 1) Unisex Shared toilet - dirty
2) The counter clerk ( morning shift )- unfriendly , impatient, not helpful.
3) room - cockroaches big & small
4) female dorm ...on the 3rd floor- no lift - need to carry big luggage up ourselves - nobody there to help.
5) No curtains to cover the lower & upper bunks , no privacy.
- Esteban (5/5): Passable -

- Chris (6/5): Great location. Everything else is only ok - LOCATION
Super easy walking distance to the downtown sites (Central Market, Masjid Jemek, Chinatown, etc) as well as the metro station.
ROOM
Clean and comfortable.
Good AC.
No window, so the room is dark at night.
BATHROOM
Clean enough.
Hot water in the shower
STAFF/LOBBY
Don't let the fancy looking lobby fool you. The rest of the place is pretty warn down.
WIFI
Mostly fine ROOM
Bottom bunks don't have good access to an outlet. My bunk had an outlet that was so high I had to stack up my backpacks so my phone wasn't dangling.
Bunks do not have a privacy curtain or shelf.
No widow, so the room is dark in the daytime.
STAFF/LOBBY
Front desk staff send fairly disinterested wherever I had to interact with them.
KITCHEN/MEALS
No water refill
NOISE
Nearby mosques so the Adhan is nice and loud.
WIFI
Doesn't work well up on the rooftop
OTHER
The rooftop could be nice but only two chairs and the wifi doesn't work well.
- Khairol_ (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kumaresh (7/5): Good - parking lot far from location
- Odaly (8/5): Just fine - Great location, friendly staff. It was very very very basic. Maybe getting rid of that refrigerator and instead adding a table could do. Or, replacing that refrigerator, it looks sooo old that you just don't want to look at it. Replacing that enourmous wardrobe that just occupies space and also looks so old for something smaller, lighter and simpler. These simple changes could make the room much more comfortable.
- Mohammed (6/5): Pleasant -
- Erwin (1/5): Bad -
- Syazwani (9/5): Worth it - Location walkable to LRT/MRT. Stairs.
- Nathan (7/5): Value for money - Excellent customer service
- Imran (6/5): Pleasant -
- Joshua (3/5): Poor - Not much honestly. The staff were mostly friendly Bathrooms were very dirty, none of lockers were working even when I was provided. Cockroaches in room. Other guests sharing the dormitory were not respectful and very noisy, probably more or less expected for the price paid
- Fizzy (9/5): Good Value - Perfect location close by to metro station, Chinatown, lots of food area to explore, nice peoples, and worth what you pay for.
- Matheus (2/5): Good for a couple of nights if you don't mind not getting much sleep. - The shower was good, the location is brilliant and there are really nice people staying there. Room was terrible to sleep in, a bit crammed, with very loud people coming in and out all the time throughout the night and it was just 3 of us in there. Bedding was dirty, room wasn't cleaned enough and there is no ventilation at all.
- Stanyzone (2/5): It was bad - It's at a walkable distance from Pasar Seni station. Right next to the Chinatown. The AC was really good. The bathrooms and the toilets weren't that clean. They don't provide towels if you don't ask. Even if you ask, they are almost always Okyy if fresh towels. And they insist that the guests have to be present at the property when the towels are available. No lift, no room service. You are expected to carry your luggage to the third floor. The pictures shown on this site are old.
I'm giving it two stars. One star for it existence, and the second star is for its AC unit.
- Asri (8/5): Very good -
- Amirul (7/5): Good -
- Saurav (5/5): it was quite disappointing - Stayed at The Explorers Guesthouse, and honestly, it was quite disappointing. The staff was rude and unhelpful, which made the experience even less pleasant. There’s no lift, so if you have heavy luggage, be prepared for a struggle carrying it up the stairs. The place is very basic—nothing fancy at all.
On the plus side, the location is decent, with plenty of shops and eateries nearby, which is convenient. But overall, you get what you pay for. If you're on a very tight budget and just need a place to crash, it might work. Otherwise, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Just OK, but would not stay again - This was an OK stay, as it was a good location and did the job for me to sleep and store my things, but I will not be back again. The first room I was assigned to smelled very musty and my bed wasn’t cleaned with new sheets, so I had to go to the reception to get a new room assignment.
They don’t give you a top sheet for the bed, but the fitted sheet to cover the mattress had stuff on it — a small rubber piece, fuzz and hairs. They give just a thin blanket which I questioned its cleanliness since there were also hairs on it.
The bathroom stalls were tiny so hard to move around in, and there was no hand soap at the sink to wash your hands. The soap pump in the shower was broken so it was difficult to get soap out but I eventually got it after many attempts.
The lockers in the hostel room were broken so I had to leave my things in the lockers outside of the room.
There are no elevators so if you’re on the top floor like I was, it made it difficult to carry your bags up and down — especially since the receptionist doesn’t show you your room and help you bring your bags up like many other hostels do.
However, the location was good with the Central Market and Chinatown right in the area, and close walking distance to Merdeka Square.
- György (10/5): Exceptional - Very good location, very safe and clean area.
The staff is helpful and flexible. <3
- Patrick (4/5): Basic dorm room in Chinatown - Room was quiet and dark at night. Staff wasn't very friendly, bathrooms are not cleaned often enough. No windows in room so it smelled bad. Loud lobby area with people constantly on speaker phone.
- Monika (6/5): Pleasant - Location. Close to the grocery shop and plenty of places to eat. We could check-in earlier.
Hot water in the shower.
Drinking water available (including hot water). The glory days of this property are already gone.
It's quite dark everywhere. Some rooms are really noisy because of the street. Kitchen and bathrooms might need some cleaning.
We saw 2 rats in the common area (kitchen, ground floor).
- Akoparinito (5/5): Passable -
- Hrvoje (5/5): Passable - Spacious lounge to hang out at. Room and bed clothes were clean. Good location near main attractions in city center. Staff was kind and helpful. This is a hostel for foreign workers. I've only seen a few travelers there, all the rest were workers or people who came there to look for work. It would be really good if the hostel had a dormitory reserved just for travelers.
- James (7/5): It was a fine place and the staff are really nice. The room itself was good and I always like it when I get a lower bunk - It is in a pretty good location to get around the city. It’s right by central train station and also where metro and skytrain meet. The hostel room is on the top floor after three fights of stairs, lol. I guess I could use the exercise.
- Xin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Xin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hanan (5/5): Budget hostel - The location is very good and the people who work there are very friendly. There was some terrible smell in the room.
- Patrick (7/5): Good - Good location
- Srinovelmi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abdul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ahmed (10/5): Thank you & see you again - Good location. Good service this price you can not expect more then this. We are happy to stay Location 👌🏻
- Basheer (3/5): Disappointing Stay - A bit of the location which is nearby some attractive places. The experience was below expectations:
Poor lighting in rooms and reception area.
Lack of attention to guests.
Showers and taps were in terrible condition.
Beds had bed bugs and were unstable.
Bedsheets and towels were in unacceptable condition.
The A/C was noisy and barely functional.
You can find better accommodations nearby for the same or even lower price.
- Jabbar (4/5): Disappointing -
- Mizi (4/5): Disappointing -
- Sangay (5/5): Passable -
- Norfadhilah (1/5): Bad -
- Shehab (10/5): Exceptional - We feel like we were in home 🏡❤️
- Muhammad (10/5): Good value of money - Silence and quiet rooms, prime location NA
- Md (9/5): Need more washroom - Good
- Risheetharan (9/5): Superb -
- Prithviraj (10/5): Exceptional -
- Imran (5/5): Passable -
- Dimitris (5/5): Lots of unrealized potential - The location, the air con in the room, the warm water in the shower. Got bitten by bedbugs, which is never… welcome. Bites-aside, the place felt… neglected. The lobby area looked... sad, nothing like in the photos. Rooftop, even worse. All in all, the place left me with the impression that it receives no love from the owner and the people who run it. It has great potential, but potential alone, without real will by anyone to realize it, means nothing.
- Zheng (10/5): Good location - Good location, near to lrt pasar seni Toilet can be quite dirty, only has two for the whole level
Please clean it every hour so it feels comfortable to use.
- Diana (5/5): Cheap price and good location, that's all - Location is amazing- close to central market and Petaling street market, cafes, eateries, sights, such as Independence square, etc.
Price, clean bedding, good A/C in the room. Overall vibe for a solo female traveler- mostly men stay there, and there are no separate toilets or showers. Only two showers (and only one with hot water) and two toilets for the whole floor, so often I ended up having to shower in cold water. Toilet paper always finishes by the end of the day until the next day cleaning and refilling.
Staff in the morning smoking in the lobby, almost next to the "no smoking" sign. Also smoking is allowed in the third floor terrace, however the door to the floor is constantly open, so all the smoke comes inside the corridor.
None of the lockers in the room would lock.
I wouldn't recommend the place for non-smokers and solo women travelers.
- Wangzijie1981 (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. Literally a stones throw from petaling street. Also very close to the LRT No window.
- Camila (7/5): Good -
- Vivin (8/5): Very good -
- Hadizz (3/5): Ok for not so fussy people - Location and price offer Cleanliness and facilities
- Noor (8/5): Very good -
- Samuel (1/5): Not recommended - Location and staff It was extremely dirty, I saw cockroaches near my bed and there were also bed bugs in my pillow which was dark yellow
- Ting (9/5): Superb -
- Fred (10/5): Exceptional -
- Solaiman (3/5): Poor -
- Sir (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (4/5): Run down and noisy. Location good - Only the location was good - although it was in a dirty, rough area with people sleeping on the streets! We had a superior Queen room with a window and private bathroom. Unfortunately with the window we were awoken daily at 5.45am by a very loud, Muslim 'Call to prayer'. Next to shared bathroom for dorms - can hear loudly people vomitting, etc. The shower was a joke being a unit on the wall next to the toilet with no door or curtains. Everything got wet and the floor flooded. Couldn't shower properly, only wash down. Everything was old, run down and needed painting, replacing ( holes in carpet) or repairing... No toiletries despite description and my requests.
- Kenneth (1/5): Bad -
- Reto (7/5): Good - Only one powerstation in the room, also outside on the floor nothing. You have to go down to the looby to charge your things.
- Krishnamurthy (4/5): Disappointing - No smail on face
- Dani (6/5): Pleasant -
- Chun (10/5): Exceptional - 👌🏻
- Loréna (10/5): Exceptional - See you again next time thank you 😍
- Farhana (10/5): Exceptional - Good location. Very good cleaning.
- Dialga (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amir (10/5): Exceptional - Everything good

- Krishna (10/5): Exceptional - Good location & nice hostel
- Gurpreet (9/5): Superb - Nice nd clean comfortable etc
- Fernando (5/5): Passable - the location was in the heart of the china town. The reception was 24/7, and the personal was nice! the cleanliness, i think they can improve the clean in the room, and also maybe do a paint inside the building or do a twist in the design.
- Amirul (10/5): Good location - Clean and good improved.

- Nouh (1/5): Bad stuff, especially the Bangladesh guy in the reception. - Location Stuff very bad treating guests, they are not even answer you. They are ignoring guests request. I made booking with price but when i arrived at checking i paid higher price. They are not clean toilets. I stayed there for 1 week bad experience. I rate 3 of 10 because of location is good.
- Babar (2/5): Very poor. - The property location is very good.all tourist attractions are nearby. Washrooms was not clean, there were no toilet paper,no soap, stinking everything.staff was not coperative at all whatever you ask them they dont give you helping hand,i asked for bit guidence regarding buses and transport and no cooperation at all.lobby fans were not on in heat.after spending 3 days in the property the staff member told me the place where water dispenser is available fpr drinking water.very poor and uncoperative staff.blankets in the room were too small.
