Guest Reviews
- Britta (6/5): -
- Mackenzie (7/5): Good for a stop over - Hot shower, clean and comfortable Could work on reception.
While checking in with one staff member another staff was talking away at that person causing some distraction.
Typical of small ontario motels now .
Alot to learn regarding customer service.
- Wayne (6/5): This is an 1960’s style roadside motel that is clean and but showing its age. Fine for stopover - Motel is definitely older but very clean. Beds and pillows were comfortable. Pink bathroom was a fun throwback but needs to have some storage space added to put personal items on. The attached restaurant wasn’t open while we were there but like the rest of the property was showing its age and could use some updating.

- Terry (5/5): - Property was well situated for my purposes (hunting in the area) The room I initially booked became unavailable the evening before my arrival
Was contacted about 2weeks prior by the owner to ask if i would cancel my booking and rebook with their site for a $5 a night reduction which I declined
Seems suspicious to me that when I didn’t have time to look elsewhere that the room I had booked was suddenly unavailable
One could assume that this was to avoid Booking.Com’s commission
- Rainer (8/5): You got to checkout this Motel for its retro decor - I liked the comfort of the bed, I liked the Roku TV and I liked the retro decor Restaurant was closed
- david (7/5): - it is a highway motel, clean and was quiet
- Eric (6/5): - Close to the highway. Reasonable rates. The restaurant attached was not open when I arrived, leaving only one close restaurant. The restaurant is open from 8am to 10am, not conducive for people who want to leave early.
- Daune (10/5): - This is a cute little motel. Convenient at the side of the highway, though not too noisy - and clean. Lovely people checking me in.
- Colleen (6/5): - Pretty good
- Kerstin (8/5): - Quiet, comfortable, cute
- Robert (8/5): - This is a small hotel in a small town. Heck in was delayed as we had to call a number and had to leave a voicemail. It took about 15 minutes to receive a response before we could check in.
- Ronn (8/5): - Pleasant staff, very friendly
- Maria Paz (2/5): - Booked the room for the price of one queen size bed. I get there he said he will charge me for two beds!! I said No! I got a confirmation for one queen size bed for the price. He said what are you going to do about it? Really?? How rude!! I said we will go somewhere else! Changed his tune, he said ok. I was too stunned and just gave my credit card. He gave me the key and said don't use the other bed! Really?? We got in the room it had two double beds. We only used one of the double bed since I didn't want to go back and say something. My husband said he wished he went in with me when checking in and not paid for the room, ( which we didn't book), he would have taken me somewhere else. Also don't miss the notes saying the price is for one person, additional $10 for another occupant.
Never going back!!

- Heather (10/5): - Great place right off the highway. Easy to get to that welcomes pets. Wonderful staff & clean appearance of property. I love drive up motels and the nostalgic vibes. This little gem didn't disappoint.
- Steve (6/5): - Old hotel with few upgrades but room was comfortable.
- Ted (7/5): -
- Gaetan (9/5): -
- Sian (5/5): We would not choose to stop at this facility on future road trips. - The location of the inn was perfect for our road trip. The staff did not seem at all interested in welcoming the clients. We had driven for seven hours and arrived hungry and tired. The restaurant claimed to be open but the front door was locked. Entry from the front desk was possible. The staff tried to redirect us across the road to get dinner. We insisted on staying as the inn restaurant claimed to be open to 8:00. We did get food that was satisfying despite not feeling welcome there.
The Inn is extremely dated and could use some simple upgrades.
- Jason (10/5): - Near little snapshot in time. Clean and cozy
- bridge (3/5): - Paid extra for pet
First they said they didn’t want pets even though they advertised as pet friendly
Decor very dated
- Ryan (8/5): - Clean and priced right for what it is. Nothing fancy but perfect for the area and cost
- Marthe (6/5): -
- Lionel (5/5): Great for motorcycle tour. - Room was perfect for what we needed. Had a sitting area. Close to highway. Beds were comfortable. Outdated.
- shirley (6/5): -
- Lucile (4/5): Vieux - C'était tres vieillot et il y avait une forte odeur de vieux. La climatisation laissait aussi a désirer, tres vieille et bruyante
- Warren (8/5): Cozy motel - Family of 4 stayed in the suite with two bedroom for one night. It’s an older motel, but clean and well kept. My only issue was the AC is in the window of the living room, so the bedrooms were a little hot. Other than that, I would stay again.
- Michael (8/5): - Very good value for money.
- Nadia (6/5): - Overall, the stay was okay and the room met basic expectations. However, there were some issues with cleanliness and maintenance, specifically, I noticed spiders and mosquitoes in the room, which made the stay less comfortable. If pest control were improved, it would make a big difference. Otherwise, the place was decent for a short stay.
- John (10/5): - It was nice.
- Cory (8/5): - There was a good restaurant across the street too.
- Melissa (10/5): - Very nice stay
- Fred (7/5): Good value and location... - It was a clean, comfortable place to stay on my journey. The location was just what I needed. It was a good value.
- Stefan (8/5): - It was convenient
- AnnieMI (5/5): - It had a bed The window is a piece of glass, the blanket had stains. The walls are paper thin, you can hear literally everything. The pillow was hard like a stone. It's very expensive for what it is.
- Kim (9/5): I would definitely stay again - Great location friendly kind staff restaurant on site room not fancy but was clean and the beds were comfortable
- Randy (10/5): - The owners/operators were cordial and accommodating. The room was neat and clean. I chose this property because the reviews were very nice and the property lived up to the reviews. Nice job!
- Free (1/5): Not going back - The location Concern - food wasn't great. No smoke detector in the room - this is a big concern
- Roger (8/5): - Pleasant staff & service!
- Alex (10/5): - The staff here is amazing - kind and welcoming! Really grateful to them. And the food at the onsite restaurant was wonderful
- Linda (8/5): Very good - This is an old motel and in need of some tlc. It was clean and comfortable and it has a restaurant which is open till 8pm and the food was good.
- Samuel (7/5): Good -
- Elizabeth (6/5): - It was not the cleanest but it was affordable and convenient, and they let my dogs stay so that gets them a pass. They need nicer bedding, so bring your own and you’ll be happy.
- Stacey (8/5): - This place is obviously taken care of with a whole lot of pride. The room was spotless, and there were no maintenance issues.
Thank you.
The only thing is that the decor is dated, and the floor was damp. Not sure why that was.
- Smith (7/5): It met my needs for the evening. - If you are traveling through this part of Canada, there are few places to stay and no Comfort, Hampton or Holiday Inns. All I saw were motel type facilities like Red Top. It was an old motel, but it was clean and I overslept through a couple alarms. So it was quiet and the bed was comfortable. They have room service and a restaurant, but I did not use those features. no complaints
- Harald (10/5): Ok stay - Motel is good enough although a bit worn. Positive thing with good food in the attached restaurant (open until 8pm)
- Thanh (8/5): Very good -
- Bellybuster (4/5): - Place to sleep I guess. Most people would call this a dump
- Michael (7/5): Good -
- Dale (4/5): - Online photos of motel were outdated. It is quite rundown. There was a very unpleasant odour in the room- screen door did not work.Bathroom fixtures dated and damaged. Restaurant was not open
Sheets were clean and bed comfortable but all decor was original from 1960's and I question the cleanliness
- Ouwerkerk (7/5): Good -
- PATRICIA (6/5): - Paid more than what was on the web site for that day. Not overly friendly. Said restaurant was open till 8 pm. Door was closed at six when we went. Ate across the street at an amazing Chinese restaurant (Three Aces)
- Catherine (10/5): - For a quick night’s stay along the way that doesn’t break the bank, this place is great! It is nothing fancy, but it is very clean, comfortable bed, mini fridge and microwave, wifi, and lots of tv options. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and there is a restaurant on site that offers home delicious cooked meals all day.
- Jacques (10/5): - Quiet and clean
- Suzanne (4/5): - The office and restaurant was very odorous. Remained on my clothes. Location helpful. Screen on door let mosquitoes in. Also, something sticky on floor beside bed. It had not been dusted. Coffee was good in the room. Large green space for stretchjbg legs and for dogs or kids
- Robert (2/5): - EXTREMELY DIRTY. There were few options in this area, but honestly, I regret not just sleeping under the bridge. I did not end up sleeping at all because I couldn’t t risk the filthy sheets or possibly bed bugs (didn’t see any, but you rarely do). Do yourself a favour, keep driving to Sault Saint Marie and spare yourself the Staph infection (not that I got one, if you stay here you’ll understand)
- Barbara (6/5): For the cost of a suite the value was questionable but it was clean and fine for a place to sleep for traveller. - It was clean.
Bedding was good and beds were comfortable Very dated . Old velvet curtains, old lamps and it was rated as a suite but living area was small and not very nicely decorated. Panelling walls
- Wendy (8/5): Very good -
- Akashdeep (8/5): it was nice, cozy, a clean and comfortable place to stay - environment was nice nothing
- Ed (8/5): - One night stay while travelling east from BC. Room was comfortable but seemed small compared to other stays on our route. Thankful for pet friendly room for our cat.
- George (9/5): Superb -
- Dennis (8/5): - Clean, comfortable bed, and staff were nice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Thanks. - Hosts were attentive, and went above requirement to make the stay good during a family funeral. Not our first time staying, and will be back. The bed was very comfortable.
- Michael (8/5): - Very clean and well maintained. Nice people. Awesome 60’s vibe.
- Logan (7/5): staff was helpful and pleasant. - no breakfast
- Mehrdad (8/5): Very good - Great
- Jacques (6/5): - No hot water is unacceptable. Not worth the price.
- Nic (10/5): - The place is not new but it's very well taken care of, clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
- Julie (5/5): A 70's experience and not a great one. - Bed was comfortable Room had a slight odor of mustyness, decor very 70's. T.v. was quite small, hard to watch from bed. Went use washroom at 4am, water wasn't working at all. Came back on by 5 am, very odd. Room was cold despite turning heat way up. Bathroom window was left unlocked and slightly ajar when we arrived. I locked it myself.
Not the best nights sleep, walls are pretty thin and we could hear everything.
Over all; I probably would not recommend the Red Top Motor Inn. I felt very uncomfortable while staying there.
- Rita (2/5): - It was clean although dated and used to be smoking so the smoke smell permeated everything.
It’s all very dated and the taps in the sink and tub barely worked with zero water temperature control. Only one person doing all the jobs so some waiting involved at check in which was understandable.
- Jason (8/5): - It is an older place but the rooms were super clean. The staff was very kind and check in check out was a breeze. Perfect over night stop for a road trip.
- Paul (9/5): Unexpected gem that retains some - Checking in was quick and easy with a warm
Welcome feeing! The highway might have effect slightly the experience but not enough to give it a poor rating.
- Gayle (5/5): Will check further for a different location bext time - Breakfast too late for us. We had dinner at the restaurant and that was fine.
The weather was turning cold and it would have been nice to have some heat on. The thermostat was strategically placed behind a lamp so it wasn’t found til morning. See previous remarks. And by the way we had not asked for a quiet room.
- Jacqueline (10/5): - We liked the grounds and was close enough to walk through the Iron Bridge and learn about it's history.
I would recommend this place for a one night stay.
Close enough to drive to other restaurants and gas station.
Room was clean and beds were comfortable.
- annamarie (6/5): - It posted that there was a restaurant with the hotel. They did not post that it is not open every day. I chose that hotel because of the restaurant. I had to go to a gas station to get food. All restaurant were closed as of Oct 13!!
The pillows smelled terrible. Glad i had my own. It was VERY cold and took a long time to warm up. Not a lot of hot water.
- Christine (5/5): It was okay. - Beds were comfortable. Water pressure in the bathroom sink was awful.
- Donald (8/5): - We did not use the restaurant, however there was one beside the check-in. Room was clean & comfortable, but dated. Staff were courteous & friendly.
- Judy (3/5): Poor - Shower stream was nice. Lots of towels. Nice shower curtain. Pillows flat, bed uncomfortable, everything old or broken. Towels hard. Someone else's shaving razor in bathroom. Restaurant closed. Bathroom faucet hardly worked, counter cracked. Welcome outside ashtray was a turn off. I wanted a bath but couldn't bring myself to get in the old tub. Too expensive for what we experienced. Not worth $130 plus taxes.
- LYNITA (8/5): - Very friendly couple. Nice place to stay in middle of nowhere. Would stay again.
- Gary (6/5): - Satisfactory room but entrance door awkward
Restaurant lacked requested items…salad greens and desserts.
- Lisa (5/5): Clean. Comfy. One night is enough - Convenient. Clean. Somewhat quiet. It’s very dated. But a clean spot nonetheless No hairdryer. It’s just a lot of old things.
- Willsrd (6/5): Convenient , super clean , cozy - Convenience , dated but very clean. Cozy like an old cottage . Beds were comfortable . Restaurant , sub par. We had fish and chips and poutine.
- Robert (8/5): Very good - Great food and good accommodation, good people
- Melissa (6/5): - The owners are very nice and helpful
- Eward (10/5): - We were late but they checked us in friendly
- Lindsay (8/5): - Like the reviews said, it is definitely a 'retro' hotel with a 60s charm. The room we had looked old and worn, but was surprisingly clean and comfortable. The price is a little high for what we got, I don't mind them using pump soaps/shampoo to cut down on waste, but they were clearly very cheap liquids. Towels could be upgraded and proper drinking glasses would be appreciated although we did get some from the restaurant. Definitely a recommended stop, but a little comfort upgrades would justify the $169 for a the double Queen room.
- Sandi (8/5): Would stay there again. - Easy access clean rooms and comfortable beds The restaurant was supposed to be open but wasn’t.
- Brian (5/5): Passable -
- Adam (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anzhelika (10/5): Exceptional - We stopped on the way home for one night. The room was clean. We ordered dinner from the restaurant. It was delicious.
- Shajan (7/5): Good -
- Murray (6/5): - Restaurant was advertised as open. IT IS NOT. lots of noise from hwy.
- Vitia (8/5): - o
- Lionel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Theo (8/5): - It was dated but clean. It served the purpose. I felt safe and the check in was warm and welcoming. Not the first time I’ve stayed there and not the last either.
- Beverley (8/5): Very good -
- Shirley (4/5): - The room had no phone no clock. The room was not ready and the pillows were totally flat. The room was very small. Very run down on the outside
