• Jeff (10/5): A true hidden gem—beautiful, welcoming, and thoughtfully managed, with great food and an experience that keeps us coming - This was our second stay at Guacamaya Lodge, and it was just as great as the first. The owners are incredibly attentive—when I mentioned the mattress was a bit firm due to a back issue, they quickly added a topper, which made a huge difference. The property is welcoming and comfortable, the restaurant is excellent with a diverse menu and daily features, and the beach is beautiful with great swimming. The staff are all very friendly and made our stay even more enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back. Nothing.

• Susanne (9/5): Lugar tranquilo rodeado de naturaleza - El lugar es muy tranquilo con jardines bien cuidados. El canto de los pájaros lo despierta a uno y hay una atmosfera como en casa. La piscina tiene un área para niños pequeños y muchas sillas alrededor. En marzo es un lugar muy caliente con hasta 39 grados Celsius. Por dicha hay buen aire acondicionado en las habitaciones. Para mi gusto la piscina podría ser un poco mas grande, pero no hubo congestión en el água durante nuestra estadia.
• Bob (9/5): This is the perfect place for anyone that wants to be away from tourist crowds. - Having the option to eat right on the property was appreciated. I thought breakfast was overpriced for the portions and the presentation bland. Alcohol prices were also more on the expensive side. The main courses for dinner were tasty but again the presentation could be ramped up - even a bit would make a difference.

El parqueo tiene cargador para vehículo eléctrico y no se cobra. El aire acondicionado no funcionó en la cabina que se me habia asignado, pero sin problema me pude pasar a otra que estaba perfecta.

The lodge itself is absolutely beautiful, from the wooden bar to the tropical plants, and the birds that flew around the property, we loved every second of it. Dinner here is a MUST. We had the chefs special that night which consisted of a Tuna steak and it was the best tuna steak we ever had. The beach is also super close 5 mins by car. We will definetely be coming back again one day :) The mattresses could be improved as they are firm and relatively small.

But a recent move and Covid interrupted travel for me and it took longer to return. I found The Guacamaya better than when I last left it. The dinner menu had new choices, try the seared tuna with mango salsa you will not be disappointed.The staff is friendly, competent and a pleasure to be around. I love when places up their game. It is easy to slide into complacency and this outfit has not. Hard to find a a complaint. But if I could change one thing I would get a quieter refrigerator in the apartment.

• Regula (7/5): Schöne Anlage, tolles Essen, nette Bedienung, leider ziemlich unbequemes Bett. - Die Anlage ist sehr schön und gepflegt, die Anordnung der Bungalows toll, der Pool hübsch und sauber, mit genügend Liegestühlen. Die Dusche im Bad hat gut funktioniert, was wir in Costa Rica nicht oft erlebt haben. Wir haben sehr fein gegessen, die Auswahl der Gerichte ist auch für Vegetarier ganz toll. Die Ausstattung im Zimmer ist ziemlich veraltet. Das Bett und vor allem die Matratze müsste wohl mal ersetzt werden. Wir haben auf unserer ganzen Costa Rica Reise sonst nirgends so schlecht geschlafen wie hier. Das Bett hat bei jeder Bewegung geknarzt und die Matratze ist hart und wohl ziemlich alt. Leider hat es auch keinen Kaffekocher im Zimmer, was auch eher untypisch ist.
• Lincoln (9/5): I would absolutely go again. We had a delightful and restful week in a beautiful place. - It is beautiful, quiet, friendly and conveniently located near 4 other restaurants. The walk to all of them and the beach is only about 5 minutes. Two things - the restaurant prices for wine and meals is high. Better food at lower prices are nearby. Second, it’s time to get new mattresses. Other travelers also commented on aging mattresses.

La piscina es bonita y limpia. La primera vez me quedé en una habitación sencilla, la segunda vez en una más grande muy bien equipada con cocina con horno, implementos para cocinar, refrigerador grande. El parqueo es gratuito. El hotel es muy seguro. Los jardines son preciosos. Todo me gustó.

La distancia con Tamarindo es de unos 35 minutos y cerca de otras playas como Blanca, Avellanas. El personal es muy amable, las habitaciones tienen A/C y el menú del Bar Restaurante es bastante amplio, tiene buen estacionamiento también. La zona es tranquila, sin mucho ruido. El hotel tiene algunos años y eso se nota, las camas eran un poco incomodas. Es decir, no tiene paños ni instalaciones nuevas o de primera, sin embargo, es suficiente relación calidad precio. Un punto a mejorar bastante es la calidad de la comida en el restaurante. No es mala, pero queda debiendo.

• ANGELA (9/5): Worth it! - They have a great restaurant. Very convenient that it is on the property. The property is also gorgeous; you can tell the owner takes good care of it. You can walk to the beach. The room was relatively small, and the single bed was not very comfortable.

• Verified traveler (10/5): - Warm, friendly staff and beautifully landscaped layout with multiple structures around a central pool and open-air restaurant and bar. We enjoyed swimming daily, dining at the restaurant multiple nights and walking down the hill to the beach that was quiet and perfect for us. If we are ever in this area again, we would return here because of the excellent service. If you end up staying elsewhere in the area, we noticed many couples came up just to enjoy the restaurant also.

The onsite restaurant was good as well. I enjoyed dinner there both nights. The pool is great and sun chairs plentiful. In the evening, howler monkeys were visible in the distant trees. The beach is a short walk away. I would stay again if visiting the area.

It’s simple yet has everything you need, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel at home. The owners and staff are incredibly kind and helpful—you can tell they genuinely care about both their guests and the place itself. If you’re looking for a well-maintained, reasonably priced stay with delicious food in a peaceful, local setting, this is the perfect spot. You won’t be surrounded by crowds of tourists, and the beautiful Playa Junquillal—a true gem in itself—is just a five-minute walk away. For those who want a bit more adventure, the staff is happy to arrange all sorts of outings, making it easy to enjoy both relaxation and exploration. We usually lean toward larger establishments, but we were so glad we discovered this special place. We’ll definitely be back on our next visit! A special thank you to Jess for handling our booking, excursions, and everything else we needed—her help made our stay even more enjoyable. And of course thanks to Alice and Bernie.
• Frank (10/5): Fun and enjoyable - We stayed at this wonderful facility for two days midweek and wish it had been longer. The manager “Leonardo”had great information to share about the plants and animals in the area especially the birds. We used this facility in order to be close to the volcano and park so the location was perfect. They provide breakfast and dinner here for a slight surcharge and we recommend this option as our meals were delicious. Most rooms also have kitchen facilities if you choose to prepare your own meals.

Our room was perfect for our family of five and brought not complaints. Beds are firm and comfortable. (Best sleep I have gotten in months.) Quick walk to beach. Beautiful pool. Friendly and helpful staff. The best part was our porch where we watched birds and howler monkeys. I would go back in a heartbeat. I can’t think of anything we didn’t love.
• Eleni (10/5): A very beautiful location, with great service and ameninites, would reccomend! - The location of the hotel was great, a little far from San Jose airport, so I would reccomend to land at Liberia airport, which is only a 90 minute drive. However, it was in a private area and very safe, with a 5 minute walk to the beach. Everything else was amazing and succeed and of my expectations. Not much I did not like, the only difference which was great for us but not for everyone is that the location is a more relaxed place and not close to many different things. If you want to be relaxed with few people bothering you then this is the location, but if you like a lot of people around and do not like the more relaxed feel of things, then this may not be the place for you. However, this was definitly the place for my family and I as we enjoyed it a LOT!!

• jessicapX118FW (10/5): Relaxing, beautiful property - just book it - I can't say enough good things about this casual lodge in the Guanacaste region. Very walkable to a natural beach, lovely pool (with enough chairs!), fantastic food and service. It was nice to have the tennis court on property, and we used it a couple of times. I probably would not recommend this location in Costa Rica for families with young children - you'll find more kid-friendly pursuits near Tamarindo. But if you want to chill in a low-key vibe and a very well maintained property, this is a gem.
• Philip (9/5): Wonderful place to stay to have peace and quiet with stunning sunsets. - You do need a car to get to this hotel. Saying that, the hotel was wonderful location, five minute walk down to the beach with stunning sunsets. Spent the weekend here just relaxing by the pool and enjoying the peace. The room was a good size with good bathroom and space for putting your clothes away. Driving a bit further along the beach road, we saw monkeys in the trees, humming birds and got to walk on areas of the beach which are less crowded.

• Kelli (9/5): Relaxing stay! - The property is beautiful. Very quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Beds were comfortable and service was very good. Yaman was especially helpful and made wonderful drinks. I love that the restaurant is the hub of this oasis. The pool is fun and beach a 5 minute walk. I find the breakfast overpriced at the restaurant. Because of the hotel location there are not a lot of other options to eat at close by. Also because there are no tv’s on the property it would be nice if they had other entertainment in the evening like live music or games or a movie night. We would be out and about during the day but we super bored after dinner.
• Katin (10/5): Great value for a peaceful retreat - If you are looking for a quiet place to recharge, read and relax- this is it. No TVs in the property, no kids for the most part. It’s so quiet that the beach is a couple of blocks away, yet you still hear the ocean in your room. Still thinking- can’t come up with anything other than the beds could be a bit more soft.
• Jenna (9/5): Superb - Gorgeous property, beautifully landscaped, and felt like a little oasis. The rooms were very clean and we enjoyed using the tennis court and the pool. A very quiet and peaceful place to stay. The beach was not swimmable due to strong rip currents - no fault of the hotel, just something to be aware of!

• Arielle (9/5): Gorgeous spot with great staff, great food. - Absolutely beautiful spot! Gardens are amazing. Restaurant perched on a hill with a nice breeze and good food. Rooms feel very private. Staff are very friendly and helpful - even helped us find medicine for my partner who got sick while there. It’s very minor, but would like 2 pillows per person. Wouldn’t change anything else!

The property itself is gorgeous, the food is incredible and the people are so nice and accommodating. We felt like family and will most certainly be back again! Do not hesitate to come here for a little rest and relaxation. It was just what we needed.

• KHK1964 (10/5): A “Must Stay” Destination - We were recently in Junquillal, looking at property, and the Guacamaya Lodge was recommended as a great place to stay. We arrived mid-day on Thursday with only a one night reservation but soon after arriving — meeting everyone there, enjoying the comfortable room and the fantastic restaurant and bar, we canceled our plans to leave on Friday and spend another full day and night! EVERYONE there (Alice, Bernie, Joe, their amazing team — and the guests!) was extraordinarily polite, friendly and accomodating. The bar and restaurant were both terrific, the grounds were well maintained and the pool was spotless! If you are in the area, you must give the Guacamaya Lodge a try! It is heaven on earth! Thank you, everyone!

The room was comfortable, the bathroom nice, well lit for shaving, clean, good access to electric outlets in good condition for charging electronics, a safe, a closet to hang clothes, nice night lights for reading. The curtains don't close well, so my wife would have gone ballistic. The check out experience was less than smooth, as they had charged me days before (they charge 50% and I said to just charge the whole thing) and upon checking out, I returned my room key, a maid came back to the car to ask me if I'd paid already, I said "yes", that it was paid days ago, and as I was getting in my car, an administrator runs to my car to say to me that "I hadn't paid". So I immediately went with him to the office, he checks the computer, and says "oh yes, you did pay"... Duh! But they were nice people. ...but very NOT smooth the way out.
• Stay40140450727 (2/5): Guacamaya lodge restaurant - Ate at the restaurant for lunch and ordered ceviche and chicken buffalo wings. Both were tasteless. The cerviches was served with stale tortilla chips. The chicken wings were dry and had neither pepper or salt on them. They were just fried without any seasonings. I drank water with the meal that came to almost $30.

• Alexa1389 (9/5): Superb - Location is unbeatable! You are minutes away from Playa Negra, Playa Callejones, Playa Blanca and across the street, Playa Junquillal. The hotel is clean, comfy and has a amazing pool. Our room had A/C, safe box and a small fridge. The owner was very sweet and helpful. The Restaurant is pretty expensive
