Guest Reviews
- Haroon (10/5): Amazing Hotel in the heart of Akita - Everything was perfect, especially the fine gentleman that helped us with our food preferences and taking the time to explain which dishes were more appropriate for us and which were not. Really appreciate that. A shower in the room would have been nice, but the Onsen had an amazing view of the woods, definitely visiting again when passing by Akita

There's variety in the meals, there's always one or 2 different items for every day. Cannot say the same for lunch though. A little bit dated

- SHAO SHENG-LUNG (9/5): -
- Michal (5/5): Good food and onsen, but broken internet and poor value for the price. - Great food selectiong. Good quality food.
Onsen was good. A little bit small. Internet was not working, I requested the stuff for help and all they said was Muzukashī (難しい).
I had no internet entire stay...
I don't think it's worth the price.
I spent multiple nights at Kyukamura Nyuto-Onsenkyo but my room was not cleaned, even though I requested it.

- Wichar (10/5): However, we would still consider staying here again when we have the opportunity in the future. - The front desk staff are very helpful and welcoming, and the restaurant staff are attentive and supportive.
Good location, good food, and a good onsen. Unfortunately, we were given a room next to the staircase, and there seemed to be some disturbance while sleeping.
- Futada (10/5): -
- Samson (10/5): Great Ryokan with access to other onsens in the Nyuto Onsen network - Good sized room, amazing staff, good food and onsen was great. Especially liked that they had an option to pay for daypass access to other onsens in the area + shuttle bus transportation so you can experience them all without needing to stay at all the different ryokans. They also offer to loan you towels, warm winter jackets and rubber boots when visiting the other onsens. This was a godsend for us it gets windy and the snow can be pile up quickly during a storm (it was up to my calves when we were there) Temperature was a little hard to regulate in the room, it can get really warm if the windows are closed

- Ting Chi (9/5): -
- A Cheah (10/5): - We enjoyed the rustic feel of this hotel, especially the onsens which had views of the forest.
- enrico (10/5): Wonderful stay in Nyuto - Kindness of the staff
Very great buffet dinner and breakfast
Hot and cold beverage for free
Onsen
- Stuart (8/5): An enjoyable onsen stay in Nyuto - All but one of the Nyuto onsens are older properties, and this is certainly a somewhat older property but it is well maintained, clean, has comfortable Japanese style rooms and helpful staff. There is a small gift shop, and a self-serve drinks area. Sulphur onsen, but the sulphur smell doesn't permeate the rest of the building. Easy to reach by public bus from Tazawako, and the small shuttle bus will run you around to the other onsens. Meals provided and were a great range of local dishes and products. Japanese style rooms can be awkward for westerners, but I found it ok for a few days.
- Susie (10/5): Exceptional -
(8/5): Very good - I like there being a hot spring pool outdoors despite it being on the small side.
- Nikeel (10/5): My First Onsen Experience - Everything in this hotel was amazing. I was flabbergasted at how wonderful the baths were, and how comfortable the futon actual is. Tatami mats are such a blessing for the feet for how soft they are. The complementary drinks such as tea or Coke was a great touch from when you come out of the bath. The location was spectacular as I got to see so much snow, and that too I got to experience an open bath in the snow was picturesque. I honestly miss it so much. There was availability of extra blankets as well but the bedding already provided was so soft I did not even notice the fact it was cold outside (there is a heater in the room as well).
Breakfast was fantastic (I missed out on dinner so I cannot comment but that would probably be great as well), it was a buffet style with a lot of different Japanese breakfast dishes to try from, such as fish, mini hot dogs, miso and rice, croquettes etc, so much so I had three rounds of breakfast. The sink in the room occasionally leaked from the base, so I had to ration the water flow.
- Matilda (8/5): Very good -
- Wing (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kun (9/5): Great location and value. - Friendly staff. Nice location. N/A
- Tammy (7/5): Everything of the hotel is perfect excepting the air-conditioner in the room. - The air-conditioner of room can only send warm air in winter , so that the room is so hot and I can't really sleep well until I open the window.
- Chun (10/5): Great experience to stay in a hostel in the snow! Dinner and the outdoor onsen are my favourite! - The dinner was great with a variety of hot, cold food as well as desserts!
There was matcha icecream too! The outdoor onsen was one of my favourite, to have hotpool in the snow is top of my bracket list! There was free drinks and coffee machine for us to use which is great in the winter.
- Sau (10/5): Nice place to relax - Good food No
- Rhys (10/5): Beautiful onsens and views - The Onsen was amazing, nothing better than sitting in one during the evening. Staff very friendly. Free soft drinks in rest area. The food wasn't fantastic, it wasn't bad but because everything else was great it kind of brought it down.
- Felicity (8/5): Wonderful winter experience - The front desk staff were extremely helpful and kind. The location amongst the birch forest was beautiful. The buffet dinner and breakfasts were both lovely, and even though we stayed for 2 nights, we found different selections and specialty dishes at the different meals to enjoy. My children enhoyed the ice cream station and hot chocolate machine also. They also sold a good selection of sake in the store. The onsen baths were wonderful, especially the outdoor one. The coin washing machine and free dryers were a helpful addition. The futon beds were a little harder than others we have used but still ok.
- Ratchanee (9/5): Superb -
- Maisie (7/5): Good -
- Christine (7/5): Good - Very good buffet for diner and breakfast. Futon mattresses are not top quality and quite hard and quilt was not fitting properly.
- Clara (7/5): Good -
- Jingyi (9/5): relaxing - Excellent buffet dinner and breakfast and amazing onsen. Very helpful staff despite language barrier.
- Dr. (8/5): Very good -
- Toey_toey (9/5): Superb - - Outdoor Onsen have stunning scenery.
- Panarasee (9/5): Comfortable room Good meal and good onsen - I like everything here Nothing
- Alisra (8/5): Hide away. - Location is on top of the hill it’s far away from village but I love it. Hot spring water is super good quality. Service is nice and friendly. Breakfast and dinner is buffet but lots of special menu served at table by staffs and some are freshly cooked by chef. Building is a bit outdated but it’s normal for traditional ryokan.
- Lam (10/5): Exceptional - l left the passport in pervious hotel. But,the hotel staff (藤原先生)is very helpful. Helping me
to communicate with the previous hotel, since I cant speak Japanese.
Once again, thank you for your prompt follow up actions. I would like to express my gratitude to all involved staff and for your profession.
Thank you to the staff specially. nil
- Rain (9/5): Wonderful stay, will stay again if I'm ever in the area - Clean and comfy. Wonderful onsen facility. Had a little shop as well. Great meals. There was a little misunderstanding with the staff about meals but that was because they did not understand English. They did their best I think.
- Takashi (9/5): If you want to get special hot spring, it is recommended. - Good and quality hot spring, buffet breakfast and dinner were good. None.
- Ubonrat (9/5): Nice to stay and dinner is good - Dinner
- Pichate (7/5): Good - Convenience to foreign tourist. The most impressive is the surrounding gardens and nature trails. The room is quite big and clean.
Dinner and breakfast is many types to choose from.
It might because this hotel is located at Mt. Nyuto which makes the price quite high and not very worthwhile for people who dont genuinely enjoy onsens.
- Karl (8/5): Overall a nice 3 days 2 nights stay. - The dinner and breakfast buffet were sumptuous. We ordered sake and added beef on day 2 of our stay. It will be nice if we can book directly with the hotel website, rather than going though with a travel portal.
- William (7/5): Good -
- Serh (8/5): Very good -
- Cecilia (7/5): Easiest for oversea tourist to book. Food was nice - Like the location Room got curry smell when we check in and the floor cut my girl feet
- Maja (10/5): Absolute relaxation! -
- Devon (9/5): Great resort stay. - Great location to Onsen hop. They help you get to the Onsen in Nyuto. Very relaxing resort and great food was included in the stay. Onsen was also very nice. Great view. There are no private showers in the room. You have to use communal showers in the Onsen which isn't as convenient or private.
- Hyung (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (2/5): Very poor -
- Yungdy (10/5): Winter Wonderland - The view, the snow, the accomodation, the onsen, everything to be precise. Worth it to travel all the way to Nyuto Onsen for that. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Even after having dinner, staffs told us to bring some food up to hotel room! Never come across staffs that asked us to do that. Yukata size doesn't cover my friend's size who is 130kg but it is understandable. Pillows are special and need some time to get used to :)
- Jean (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yungdy (10/5): Jan Travel During Snowing days - staff hospitality. even when english is minimal, staffs tried their best to explain. since it was snowing heavily, there is no pathway from the hotel to the nearest onsen. So cant walk and have to wait for the onsen town bus which comes every 1 hour.
- Taniya (9/5): Superb -
- Terry (9/5): Superb -
- Igo2moro (10/5): Exceptional - big room,
very clean
very good food & so varity of buffet all we like;
room
onsen
food
staff of font very supporting and can speak english
- Wichar (10/5): never better at Nyuto - Pleasant staff
food
onsen no convenience store
- Kenn (10/5): Is this real life? Or is this just fantasy? - It has indoor and outdoor onsen! The ambiance of the outdoor onsen in the winter is very spectacular. They also have massage chairs and foot massages. The booking comes with delicious and sufficient buffet breakfast and dinner. When I couldn't book the airport shuttle because I could not speak Japanese well, the staff called them on my behalf and made sure that The room is very nice and clean. It's just a walk away from other onsen. You can 'rent' coat, boots, and towels for free if you want to walk outside and go to other onsen. Nothing really, but if there is something that I should say, probably that;s the onsen cleaning time. I tried to go after breakfast and it was cleaning time. Anyways, I was able to go again in other time.
- Jean (9/5): Superb -
- Sirada (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sukanya (9/5): Very good - Great onsen, good food, Onsen open air
- Michele (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay at this beautiful hotel was just FANTASTIC.
The location is wonderful, in the middle of the forest in a wild environment where the silence is king.
The staff was very professional and gentle, and above all SMILING. The kitchen was very good and the buffet was entirely worth it.
The structure is modern but well integrated in the magic athmosphere of Nyuto Onsen and our experience was authentic and breathtaking.
The passport which allows you to travel around the Onsens is just WOW.
Absolutely to reccommend.
We stayed here one night from the 20 to the 21 of November.

- Gladys (10/5): Comfortable with great onsen. - Service was great. Food was excellent. Onsen baths were really good, though the outdoor bath was smaller than expected. I liked the different lighting levels in the room. The womens’ amenities in the baths were great and we purchased some from the shop. Room was too warm and a bit stuffy. We could not open the windows to let fresh air in due to the stinkbug infestation at the time (there were instructions on how to catch the bugs). There was only one towel provided per person per room, so it was a bit troublesome if one wanted to take multiple baths.
- Tzu (8/5): Very good -
- Hayashi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Celia (9/5): Very pleasant stay with excellent hotel staff and wonderful buffet meals. - Breakfast and dinner were both excellent buffets. The rooms were nice and clean. The staff were all very kind and informative. We thought the bathing equipment looked somewhat dated and old, and not as clean looking as expected.
- Whay (8/5): Very good -
- Velda (5/5): Passable - beds were comfortable; quiet and peaceful location although somewhat remote and out of the way food was not great; food options were limited and not particularly fresh
- Tom (8/5): Very good -
- Mitsuru (10/5): Excellent - Fantastic hot spring Hot spring
- Kanyi (9/5): Superb - Exceptional onsen in the woods. Meal buffet a little limited in options but really good. Property a little aged like most hotels in Japan, but well kept.
- Ming (9/5): Superb -
