Jenny (6/5): The george hotel - The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We found medication in the room, the shower was small the mattress was very lumpy and worn out. No information that the restaurant was closed other than in the information book within the room.
Julie (1/5): Never again would I stay at this place!! If they had told me it would be so noisy I would not of booked it. - The bed was ok Loud music downstairs in pub till 00.30. Very,very ,very noisy customers in pub . Hardly slept . The room was very dated and scruffy. Curtains were hanging off . No blind or curtains in bathroom and window couldn’t be opened. There is a church near it and the bells ring every hour and not just once they go on and on all night . Also your very close to the road and cars ,vans, busses rattle ur windows when they go past ( I was in a upstairs room)

Colin (3/5): Not value for money and rooms need to be upgraded - Location was OK centre of town, kettle and tea/coffee in room The room was in need of redecorating and upgrading no net curtains in room only heavy curtains so could not open them, so no privacy, no air conditioning in the room, so was very hot and sweaty, also room was right over the bar music was very loud up till 11.00 pm, and also no breakfast the kitchen is closed on Sunday mornings.

Trevor (4/5): Bad experience - If anyone stays on a Saturday night & expect to get to sleep before midnight then they will be disappointed, the noise of the music from downstairs was horrendous it was so loud it vibrated the room, & there a church just down the road with a clock on it kept chiming though the night so overall didn't get a lot sleep definitely wouldn't stop there again

Niki (3/5): Not my cup of tea! - The staff on check in were friendly and the coffee was nice! We checked in and were given directions to the room. The carpets in the halls are threadbare and the general appearance is grubby. When we entered the room it had not been made up from the last occupant. Our second room overlooked a noisy road and had no net curtains so we had to keep the curtains closed. The kitchen was closed so we had to go elsewhere to eat. The noise from the bar was terrible but it did finish at a reasonable time. The toilet flushed continually and as the bathroom door wouldn't close it meant for a bad night's sleep. Finally, there was no hairdryer so I had to buy one and then there was nowhere light enough to see to dry my hair or put on makeup! All in all a disappointing stay!

Martin (2/5): Not good - … What price a hotel where the restaurant closes at 4.00pm and breakfast is not available till 11.00am? No good for travellers! The George is a bit run down, carpets heavily worn on stairs, room basic, bed not very comfortable, bar very noisy till early hours. They claimed website said my booking was room only but it wasn’t that clear - especially when website emphasised hospitality and quality of food. The good news for the George is that they won’t see me again!

Nicola (5/5): Disappointed experience. - Friendly staff and free car park. Central location. Disappointing stay as the room was very basic, tired and dated (anaglypta wallpaper in the bedroom and bathroom) and really needed updating as it was a bit 1970’s style! It reminded me of the B & B’s we used to stay in over 40 years ago! It did however, have a free car park which was a bonus as was the central location. No bedside lights or lamps which meant I had to get out of bed to turn the main light off. Only one coat hanger and no hairdryer. No password for the WiFi in the handbook left in the room (or on the router) which only gave information about the fire evacuation procedure and the pub menu. The bedroom radiator was working the first night of our stay but refused to come on the second evening when we returned after a day out with family. We couldn’t get any hot water until the second morning when we discovered that by pulling the shower pull cord, water started to run hotter at the basin tap. There should have been a notice on the wall to tell us. I could hear the hand dryer in the loo downstairs in the bar (when we were trying to go to sleep) although I think the bar closed at 10ish so the bar didn’t disturb us late into the night. The bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly but the cost of £80 a night was far too much especially when it didn’t include breakfast. A couple of local cafes do breakfast at about £10 per person so it equated to £100 for the two of us to stay there a night. The George wasn’t doing food the day after we arrived and only from 11am the second morning and we had to leave before then as we had a long journey and therefore had to find breakfast early elsewhere. I have stayed in far superior pub rooms over the last month cheaper than £80 including breakfast so I really would not stay again as we were really disappointed by the whole experience and definitely would not stay there again.

Joan (3/5): Friendly staff and people, clean room but very basic. - Good location. It was clean. The bathroom was very clean also. The staff were nice and very helpful. Secure overnight parking. Extremely tired and dated. Single glazing and we had a bedroom at the front so road noise was like sleeping on the street. Comfortable enough bed. No heating in the room. No hot water at sink tap. Very grotty old carpets. Probably one of the lowest standards of rooms. But it was clean and dry and comfortable enough for a single night.

However, they did suggest If I ordered food in, they would provide table and cutlery so that I didn't have to eat in room. Noise from bar very evident but was too tired to care. Shower pressure quite low but usable.
