- JadiLyn (6/5): - We recently stayed at this beautiful property and were impressed by its thoughtful design and stunning grounds. The complimentary room upgrade was a lovely touch that got our stay off to a great start. That said, several issues impacted our experience. A photoshoot was taking place during our stay, including in the Northern Lights Bar. A DJ played loud, bass-heavy music — likely part of the shoot — which disrupted the normally peaceful vibe. We could hear it clearly from our room just a few doors down, and even while trying to relax at the pool. The models and crew also dominated the bar space, making it feel unwelcoming despite its cool design. In our room, the mini fridge was placed inside a closet, which became extremely hot. The fridge wasn’t cold and couldn’t be adjusted — a concern both for food safety and potential fire risk. Most disappointing was dinner. After our server overheard it was our anniversary, she offered us a “celebratory dessert.” We assumed this was complimentary, as it would be in most American hotels. We were surprised to see a 6000 ISK charge on our bill. While we didn’t dispute it, it left us feeling misled. We did enjoy many aspects of our stay, but for the premium price, we expected a more relaxing and guest-focused experience.

- Sara Anne (10/5): - A unique hotel situated in a remote location, only 40 minutes drive from Reykjavik, and on the golden circle route. The welcome drink was appreciated. Worth mentioning are the wonderful staff, always welcoming, professional, kind and service with a smile. The Swedish male waiter at dinner was super! The rooms were nicely decorated, clean, and quiet. It got a bit hot during the night but opening the window cooled it quickly. The bar at the front of the hotel was great for enjoying a pre-dinner drink, and the barman kindly concocted a mocktail for our children. Breakfast was thumbs up from the whole family. Worth staying for an authentic Iceland experience.

- Jan (10/5): - A lovely hotel in wild, tranquil surroundings. Food was excellent, albeit a limited choice. For a holiday hotel, breakfast finishing at 10.00. was annoying, especially on weekends. Bed and room were small but comfortable and had most everything you needed, except tissues. On the downside, the lighting throughout the hotel is dreadful, especially the restaurant, but there is absolutely nowhere where you can sit and read, even in the bedrooms.. Similarly, for a hotel like this not to have a fireplace of any sort to sit by was also a great shame.

Right in the Golden circle area so very convenient for seeing the major sites in this part of Iceland. Only complaint is that breakfast for roughly $40pp looked very basic for the price- just some pre prepared eggs so we decided to skip it

The room was fantastic but the curtains didn't cover the windows, with people out walking was a bit of a privacy concern. The geothermal pool and sauna were really good and great to relax in after a day of sightseeing. Food offering was limited which with no real option to eat away from the hotel was frustrating but the food we had was high standard.

However, I would say that it is slightly overpriced given the level of interior design and amenities, which did not live up to the very high expectations I had and given the price. - Alexis (4/5): - he Adventure Ion Hotel offers a unique location, nestled in a serene and remote setting away from civilization and light pollution. However, the experience falls short of its advertised promises. While the Northern Lights Bar is suggested as an observation deck, it disappointingly lacks the expected views, and the promised wake-up calls for the lights were untimely. The spa, advertised as a luxury amenity, turns out to be a modest geothermal pool and a small sauna, not meeting expectations. Additionally, both breakfast and dinner options are limited, with repetitive vegetarian choices and high prices for what's offered. Despite its promise of luxury, the overall experience feels sparse and doesn't justify the cost.

Make sure you have enough gas to get there and back as the road from Selfoss to the hotel is very very empty of other cars and houses so if you get stuck it’s a long long walk!

I’m general, being in Iceland for the second time and having a chance to compare good hotels and small wooden houses, I would say that the hotel is very much overpriced. - it is located right next to the power station (so you can expect typical Icelandic smell all the time) - the only change to have a meal is at the overpriced restaurant (the breakfast is average too) - spa includes only a relatively small hot tub (which is usually super full of tourists), a room where you can chill and read a book and a sauna - you can literally hear everything what is happening outside the room (whether it is someone going to the hot tub or running for the northern lights or just taking shower in the next room) I have visited better places in Iceland with a more fair pricing, service and comfort. Nevertheless this is an understandable marketing concept from the location.
- Kunal (4/5): Hotel is NOT in Selfoss! - The hotel is fine, rooms are on a smaller side, there is some construction going on the property so it can be loud at times. However, the issue is hotel is NOT in Selfoss. It's not even close to Selfoss, around 45 min out of town of Selfoss, in the middle of nowhere. Not sure why it shows up in Selfoss.
- Max (8/5): Overall good but hard to justify the price. - All of it was pretty great, just not sure it’s worth the high price. Definitely avoid the restaurant, very expensive and not worth it. Spa was awesome, northern lights bar was a great venue. The property is under construction but we hardly noticed. Half the rooms have a great view on one side of the building, the other half have a good view but that includes a power station which kinda spoiled it. The staff here are beyond excellent.
- RACHEL (4/5): - I really wanted to love this hotel, but I feel like a pictures don't represent what I experienced in person. The hotel is really remote, but is right next to a power station that keeps its lights on all night. I originally thought this was the issue of the light streaming into our room at night, but turned out to be the hotel lobby light. When I mentioned this to the staff, their answer was that’s what the black out curtains were for. I was under the impression they were for Iceland's long summer days? Overall it gave me the impression they don’t really take into consideration people’s experience there. I wish instead of spending the money to expand they would update what already exists. We didn't know renovations were taking place and did not have a great first impression upon arriving. Overall half of the hotel feels dark and outdated including our room. Our bedroom and bathroom were not represented in the ones pictured. And on top of that bathroom shower just felt like it never got hot enough. I’m glad we made reservations for dinner because the restaurant was at capacity and I could see people waiting in the lobby for tables to open. Despite my feelings about the hotel itself, our dinner was delicious. If you do stay here request a room on the other side of the hotel away from the plant and as far away from the restaurant as possible to ensure the least light pollution and the most privacy. Make dinner reservations and plan to use the spa at sunrise when it’s quiet.

Swift was amazing at the desk in helping us reareange our trip due to a storm coming in (cancelling hotels, getting a room back in the city, etc.) The entire team is so friendly and we felt right at home. We will have fond memories of Ion Adventure. 🙏

Great spot for viewing the Northern Lights and getting around to sites like the geyser and national park. They have a limited menu, but the food was great! I would recommend this hotel

I love the remoteness of this hotel and the hot spa outside was delightful. I felt it was a touch overpriced, especially since no food or drinks were included, and the menu was very pricey. Other than that, it was lovely.
- Steven (10/5): - One of the most memorable hotel stays. We stayed for two days in December. It's far enough from Reykjavic (about an hour drive), isolated and remote. Super chill vibes. Picturesque scenery. A winter wonderland retreat. The weather was snowy so we were concerned about driving there. Check road conditions often on roads.is. It turned out fine though: nothing a small AWD vehicle can't handle, even with moderate snow.

- Charlie (4/5): - We made a last minute reservation, we booked a deluxe room for 3. Showed up after a long day. Front desk said they showed a reservation only for 2. We asked for a roll away and was told that was only for those 12 and under. My son (over 12) offered to sleep in same bed or on the floor. Front desk said they only allow two people per room. They made us book a second room for $600 for one night. No effort to accomodate in anyway. They knew they had us out in the middle of nowhere at evening time and took advantage of us. Will never go back

- ERIC (4/5): - We expected a better facility based on the price we paid. The room design was not great, the first impression when we opened the room was the bathroom. The pool is too small and basically there was not privacy. The room doesn’t have refrigerator. Bar is the best place of the hotel.

"Pool" is like a water feature, less then 3 feet deep and not that hot. Overall wouldnt stay here again moat likely. Hair in shower, conditioner was shampoo, small sink/bathroom.

- Cheryl (8/5): Really nice 2 day stay - We stayed 2 days to celebrate my birthday. I really wanted to do nothing but relax, enjoy Iceland’s beautiful scenery, have a nice meal, float in the hot pool, and possibly see the northern lights. I was able to do most of these things. Having been to this region of Iceland before, we knew that the hotel is in the middle of nowhere. We arrived during a blizzard and the road actually was closed after our arrival. We knew we would be “trapped” at the hotel and planned accordingly. We brought enough food for our breakfasts, lunches and one night’s dinner - we ate all of these in our room. We stored cold items in either our car or on our window sill which was very cold. We were simply not interested in being forced to spend hundreds of dollars in the restaurant for meals, as there is literally no other choice in the winter with closed roads. One cocktail in the bar set us back $21. We did have one dinner in the restaurant and it was delicious and a lovely evening. There were a few things we were disappointed in: we booked the room for 2 people but there was only coffee for 1. Of course when we asked, we were provided supplies, but we should not have had to ask. We wanted to soak in the pool but did not feel that it was warm enough- ironic given that the geothermal plant is within sight. For point of comparison, we did swim at the local outdoor pool in Reykjavik for the 4 prior days. Lastly, when we went to the relaxation room, there was only a pile of dirty cups so no tea for us.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Save your money - We payed for a deluxe room and the view horrible as they don’t tell you it is next to a geothermal power. perhaps if we were on the other sides of the building the view would have been much better as that side faces the mountains. The sauna was locked for some reason. The place is way overpriced. The rooms are clean but very small. I would recommend bringing food as once you are there you have no choice but to dine there as you are in the middle of nowhere but the food is also over priced. The drinks are good though....

Would be a good northern lights viewpoint, especially from their bar. Food at restaurant was good and restaurant staff very good. No issues with anything in the room.
- Kevin (6/5): We were excited to stay here... we should have not - I think my expectations for this hotel were higher than they could meet... the service was slow, the bar tender in the Northern Lights Lounge seemed like he could not be bothered. We are at the restaurant and found the food okay... but since we were not buying bottles of wine we found the service team no interested in us. We sat finished with nothing to drink trying to flag someone down for the check for 20 mins. We chopped the lack of attention to the restaurant being busy, but they had like 10 tables for 3 service staff. Every thing was over the top expensive, and lack luster. Not really worth the price. The saddest thing is that they don’t tell you the note is next to a geothermal plant so when you pull up you notice that all the picture perfectly don’t show that. There is a strong smell of sulfure, i get it geothermal often means sulfur, but for the price I’d rather not look out my window and see the plant... over all i was let down and disappointed.

We were fortunate to get a room with a good view of the lake. It is very expensive but we enjoyed our stay very much. The staff were cheerful.
