- Verified traveler (8/5): Economical stay. - The room was great and the hotel itself was fine. The only issue was the service in the restaurant for our evening meal. It would have been better not to have to wait for so long for food to arrive and it would have been nice if we could all eat together, rather than some finishing before the other meals arrived.

- Thalente (10/5): Decent, peaceful and secure. - At first me and my partner were skeptical about spending the whole weekend at Road Lodge but all those doubts were erased as soon as we checked in. The service was awesome and the peace that came with it was proper, the only disadvantage was that the rooms don't come with a fridge which proved to be a problem.

- Andre (8/5): - The room is what was excepted from a road lodge. I stayed in another road lodge on this same trip and they were identical. It was clean and tidy with minimal noise.
- Nontobeko (6/5): - This hotel is ok for the price. No frills. Location is perfect for exploring Richards Bay. It’s just next to the mall and minutes’ drive to the beach. Bathroom cleanliness could be improved. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is poor and could do with lots of improvement. We stayed here on 2 occasions one night each time. We didn’t bother with breakfast on the second occasion as there are plenty of options at the mall. Breakfast consisted of pale looking sausages, lukewarm scrambled eggs, overly processed cheese (those individually wrapped cheese slices), toast, some muffins. We arrived 40 min before end of breakfast but most food had already run out. Had to request coffee mugs, cutlery and glasses. There seemed to be one person cooking and looking after guests. The lady was polite but she seemed overwhelmed, which was not obviously her fault. Overall, you get what you pay for. Basic hotel at reasonable price. It met our needs as a base. Another plus is the free WiFi.

- LINDA (10/5): EXCELLENT STAY - The reception staff was friendly and helpfull. There was just nothing that we could complain about. My husband has health problems, and without knowing that, we got a room on the ground floor. There is no reason to complain about anything

- mongezi (2/5): the worst hotel ever - the room was poor, the carpet dirty(you could see brown all over from the walkwaay and entering the room) the shower looked like someone had just used it. the soap was not replenished and i used my own. the toilet paper was next to nothing and their house keeping trolley had no toliet paper or soap. the irons in the ironing room were either broek (2nd floor) or in a bad condition (1st floor) i had to ask the assitant manager who then arraanged for a new iron. the room had a damp odor. the window doesnt close well (room 236) and lost of wind noise apart from the surrounding noise as it is next to a student accomodation/res
- Guillermo (10/5): Weekend Away in Richards Bay. Road Lodge is nice. - Always the Road Lodge does not disappoint. Quiet and clean. Perfect for a good night sleep. Very comfortable rooms and bed, nice shower. Strong and fast wifi internet. Placed in a strategic location in Richards Bay not far from any place you would like to visit in this town. Check in was quick and easy as receptionist remembered us from previous stays in the hotel. Will recommend the hotel to all. Reasonable price and comfort.

This really helped as we were between holidays when we di an overnight stay. The pool was also an attraction as we had a late afternoon swim to coll off after our days travels.

- TProphet (6/5): Just OK. - The first room I was assigned had a horrible red stain on the carpet next to the bed. It looked like someone had been murdered, or alternatively, that someone had thrown up red wine all over the place. I asked the front desk agent for another room and she switched me promptly. I was able to get a good night's sleep. The decor is dated, it looks like an early 2000s Motel 6, but the bed was fine and the Internet worked well. Unfortunately there were some maintenance issues in the room. The faucet was coming off of the sink, the shower head was loose in the wall, and the building has settled meaning the glass shower door was catching on the door jamb. The last of these was a safety issue. I notified the desk clerk in the morning when I noticed it and she took the room out of service so it could be repaired. Breakfast is at extra cost and didn't look particularly impressive. I opted to eat at a popular restaurant in the mall across the street, which did a very solid breakfast. For an overnight in Richards Bay, the Road Lodge isn't bad. But I didn't consider it very good value for money. Given the relatively high rate, the property should be in better condition.
