Guest Reviews
- Ly siv (4/5): - Look not really clean
- marie (2/5): misleading infor, ation - The photo of the hotel is misleading. The photo is of their old hotel near to the Metro has been closed and the actual hotel is 3 miles out of the area. The hotel is dirty, and not as advertised. The staff were also unhelpful. Please update the details on Hotels.com, as I could not want any other customers to be in this situation.
- Derick_Traveller2017 (6/5): Good for the pocket - Good location, for the train, bus and night market in chinatown.
good for the pocket, especially when you are travelling with friends.
The breakfast is quiet good, but if you stay longer in the hotel, hopefully
they will upgrade their breakfast, its keep on repeating everyday.
but all in all its woth it for the budget.
The staff are good and polite.
- jesper (6/5): - baad breakfast
- DANIEL (8/5): Chambre Bangkok - Dommage bruyant !
- stefaniac2017 (2/5): picture are not the reality - the location is near the train station,so it is confortable if you need to take the train but rooms are small, bathroom super small, sad. I was happy to live.Staff nice but not all speak english so not helpful.
- Marie (8/5): - Le bruit de la rue jour et nuit,...........................................
- ying (6/5): Noisy hotel - The room was very noisy, very loud air con with heavy tragic noise. Hairs dryer was very old which did not work properly. Stuffs are very friendly but don’t speak a word in English, which made asking for things very hard. Would not recommend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Wilson (6/5): Modest - SK hotel is good for an emergency stop or limited stay. don't expect luxury/
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Internet hat im Minutentakt Unterbrüche,
Zimmer sind charmant.
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Joenie (10/5): - Good location and staff very friendly...
- Grahamcroucher (8/5): Very handy for Wongwian Yai railway station for the market Railway - Very enjoyable stay. Staff very helpful. However, I was under the impression that the hotel is on the busy (and noisy) main highway. Fortunately it was in a side street which made it a bit quieter. Staff helped me find a Thai restaurant about fifteen minutes walk away that served one of the best curries I've ever had!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I like it as the furniture was unique and also it good if have kettle in the room at least (^^)
- Popescu (10/5): - I really liked the room, spacious and chic boutique style. Also everything was clean, good bed, decent breakfast, location is good, right near mrt, 3 min from train station and maybe 7 from chinatown.
Only thing may be inconvenient is that there was a bit noise in the room from trafic, but as tired as we were after walking non stop in bangkok we could sleep without a problem.
- Fred (8/5): Travel around - Ok for anight
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very close to mrt station , it's just next to the exit of mrt station.
- jasonv544 (2/5): Disgusting - Avoid like the plague. This place is dirty and just terrible. The owner is not a nice man, he also owns the Metro Hotel next door which is equally bad despite the pretty pictures.
Stay away and find another hotel, don't make the same mistake I did!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stayed for 2 nights. The room was clean and amenities were satisfying. One negative aspect was that we could overhear conversations from next doors. Overall very good hotel with friendly stuff at good location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Muy cerca estacion de tren y metro. Ruidoso. Sin anscensor
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Close to Hua Lamphong train station. Hotel is run down but superior room was reasonable. Shower only gets lukewarm water. Breakfast is mediocre with set menu - eggs and toast with a couple of sausages. Worst thing is reception staff. They are abrupt and somewhat unhelpful. Stay here only if on a tight budget.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- CINDY (8/5): - Wonderful location. Close to MRT and train station.
- David (8/5): - Very nice hotel for the price. We were on the top floor (F5) which had a balcony with good views, and the traffic noise was quieter. Our room was quite big and comfortable. No lift, only stairs, but we expected that and it was ok. The hotel is very convenient for the railway stn, easy to walk to with a lift from the footpath outside the hotel, tunnel to the stn, and a lift at the stn. The hotel reception manager is a very nice helpful man with good English.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - 階段。。。
- SidSirius (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE!!! - The photos on all booking websites of this hotel are NOT of the rooms themselves. The rooms are NOT AT ALL as advertised. The hotel is DISGUSTINGLY FILTHY! The bathrooms consist of a rotting wood floors with a shower head and toilet (which is IN the shower). The staff are extremely rude and crass. The 'manager' speaks English fairly fluently, but suddenly loses this ability when something is wrong or not upto standard, but also spontaneously can no longer speak Thai either when things are not alright.
THIS IS AN AWFUL 'HOTEL' WITH HORRID STAFF, DO NOT STAY HERE.
- Verified traveler (6/5): No elevator and only staircase - My room was 3rd floor and hard to bring my heavy luggages without nobody helping by hotel staff.
Room is clean but like a backpacker’s style and no hot water at all first night and asked few times and finally fixed.
Breakfast is choice from the list but only one day is good enough and ate outside from next day.
Location is very good (just oUtside of MRT no.4 exit)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Handy for Hua Lamphong station, good base to explore Bangkok from
- Therese (10/5): - Vi hadde familierom i 3.etasje.
- Jajie (10/5): - nice location and easy for tranfer to MRT
Near China town
- sunil (6/5): Close to china town and train system - Great experience and wonderful staff. Very informative and close to shopping centre and train. Easy to get around with train and it’s cheap.
- Thomas (8/5): no-frills, good value - decent hotel quite near to yaowarat square/chinatown area. friendly helpful staff. not fancy just basic. good value for the price. there was some renovation work being done so some public areas were a bit cluttered/dusty, didnt affect my room with any dirt or noise, so who cares? if you're expecting gold star service in spotless luxury accommodations you'll have to go somewhere that charges $100/night. this is an economy place. clean quiet ac works water works. its just fine.
- kamalkantdwivedi (4/5): Disappointment in Mahanakhon - It is located near Hua Lamphong station, go via the subway, take exit 4, elevator and as you get out, look right three meters away is the hotel. Hence why were we disappointed with the hotel?
Check In. We had requested for an early check in due train timings that was agreed to. However we were assigned a room that was on the fifth floor with no elevator/lift. The gentleman who came in at 0800 to the front office understood my problem and after a 1 hour wait moved me from fifth to third floor.
Rooms. The room was said to be 150 sq ft, and that it was. What it did not say was that the property has these rooms on the higher floors through narrow staircases that is difficult to negotiate with luggage. THERE IS NO LIFT/ELEVATOR in this 5 storeyed property. Hence for me at the age of 64, it wasn't easy. The second thing it did not say was the 150 sq ft included the toilet area that had the WC and shower, while the wash basin and a large old CRT TV was a part of the room reducing the available are effectively down to about 80 sq ft. Take in the double bed next to the wall the area to move is around 30-40 sq ft. The rooms were cleaned well.
The rooms were cramped due to the size, with the air conditioning outlet over the toilet door, hence a fan to redirect the cool air. The air conditioning worked well in conjunction with the fan.
WiFi. Worked well for us.
Breakfast. The breakfast was exactly as advertised, one poached egg, two sausages and two toasts, all served cold, with no change whatsoever.
Restaurant. The property has a restaurant with Beer available. The quality of food and the helping size is quite good.
Staff. The staff was helpful specially the Gentleman with a Baby who came in every morning.
The property has a sit out next to the pavement for smokers where one can watch the world go by while having a drink/snacks/food. They do not object vehemently to outside food.
I would have rated this property very high if the room was described correctly ( in which case I would have taken a bigger room) and it had an elevator.
For those who are young, fit and travelling with backpacks, a good place to go to, but if you are aged, reconsider due to absence of lift.
- David (6/5): Food was average - Location was good as hotel is near train station , good for my early morning train trip .
- Laura (6/5): Decent hotel great for the train station - Ok hotel, not massive rooms but very close to train station. We accidentally left a packet of chewits on the floor so the next morning there was an infestation of ants so be careful with any food as ours had two layers of packaging. Breakfast not overly spectacular
- PrawetJ (6/5): Nice restaurant in busy Hua Lamphong Station - I just stop by at SK for drinks and lunch during my walking around Hua Lamphong Train Station. It is a nice charming place in the middle of busy train station and near Chinatown. The place is good but the food is not. If you want to stop for a cool beer, do it but I would not suggest for food. Because of the location, I would like to try to stay there in the future.
- Verified traveler (2/5): bathroom smells like sewage waste!! - It's unacceptable to smell feces in your hotel. We had to hold my breath to use the bathroom because it literally smelled like sewage waste. We notified the staff several times but I guess there's no easy fix to this problem. The complimentary breakfast they gave was essentially a child's portion (2 slices of bread and an egg) and I had to get an extra portion for 180 Bahts. The tea was served cold when I showed up around 9 am and I didn't have time to wait around after breakfast for it to heat up. The staff was friendly but that's about the only good thing here
- Chee S (8/5): Budget hotel for travellers - The place is clean and comfortable to stay. The hotel doesn't have lift so be ready to climb the stair with luggage up to level 5.
If travelling solo, the size of the room is ok. Not that spacious for two. The hotel doesn't have enough powerpoint which make us trouble to charges our phones, camera and use the hairdryer. Might need to bring multiple extension cord.
Overall the service was pleasant.
- geoffg111 (6/5): Convenient for Metro & Hua Lamphong Station - The location is good with Metro access outside the door and the train station across the road. Rooms are basic but clean and as good as you would expect for the price. Staff were very friendly and it was only a 10 minute walk to Chinatown. Good place to stay for a couple of nights if you are not wanting to be in the centre of the night life.
- Rob_Chan (6/5): Moderately acceptable; only for those transiting to the Hua Lamphong station - Stayed her for one night as I had to take the train at Hua Lamphong Station the next morning. Apart from it's convenient location, this hotel is only just moderately acceptable for 1-2 nights at most. If you are planning to traverse around Bangkok, Yaowarat would be a better place to bunk as it is only a mere 15 mins away from the station.
PROS:
-Located just opposite the Hua Lamphong Train Station. As I had to catch an early train to Hua Hin the next morning, this is a big advantage as it is a mere 5 mins walk across the street. There are also two 7-11s within it's vicinity.
-Has a cool 18th century theme going on.
-Bed is OK
CONS:
-The room is pretty dimly lit, with a worn out interior. May make you feel a bit dreary.
-Upon my arrival, I found the floor feeling sticky, and had a strong shampoo smell on it. May have been spilled during cleaning.
-The shower pressure is poor, and placed at a low angle.
- midfax (8/5): great for the station - good for the price
- JamesM240598 (2/5): Shabby breakfast - Only came here for breakfast, but if that's anything to go by then my hopes aren't high for the rest of the hotel. Guy on the desk was helpful, as was the waitress, but the chefs really need to go back to cooking school. The "American breakfast" consisted of one tepid slice of bacon, an even colder slice of ham, an omelette that was half cooked and absolutely DROWNED in butter, and a salad with way too much salad cream on it. Salad for breakfast? Seriously?
- goi (4/5): not to choose again - no lift, it's not convenience for elderly people.
the receptionist not so helpful or friendly.
- pirjoa720 (4/5): Ok hotel, nothing special - Great location next to Hualampho, 7/11 and many places to eat. Rooms are clean, with ac, clean bathroom and minibar. Great place to stay over night.
No elevator, so it`s possible you need to carry your bags 5 floors up.
- lefebo (8/5): more than okay! - Stayed here twice, room with a balcony, local boutique style, good location: 3 minutes from Bangkok Hua Lampong Train Station, subway stop right in front, massage salon around the corner, eateries in the neighborhood, what else would one need?
- Kobai (2/5): Miserable miserable miserable - hotel is nice enough the staff aren't.
Possibly the most miserable, apathetic, rude staff I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. For 1000 bht I don't expect my bottom wiped but I would like my existence acknowledged which the people here didn't seem to want to do. Never again will I pass money to these people.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - There was no lift and lots of stairs to climb.
- sabrinastrasser (10/5): Nice Staff - Very good hotel with nice staff, all staff can speak english so was very easy. Confortable room for a fair price. Just in front of a train station.
The only disadvantage was that ours was on 4th floor and there is no lift.
- CedricGerrard (8/5): An Authentic Thai Gem - This five floor walk-up boutique hotel is located at Exit 4 above Hua Lamphong MRT Station. It is an older establishment with many authentic Thai features and has an exotic atmosphere. This hotel is great for in-transit travellers and it is also a comfortable option for longer stays. The room rates are reasonable and the onsite restaurant serves excellent food.
Pluses:
* authentic Thai features and art in rooms and throughout the premises.
* an exotic atmosphere that makes you feel like you are in Thailand.
* great location near Chinatown at Exit 4 of Hua Lamphong Station; MRT & Railway.
* twenty minute walk to River City Pier.
* room rates very reasonable considering the unique and authentic atmosphere.
* well equipped rooms with A/C & fan, TV, phone, small dresser, and blow dryer.
* clean and well maintained, for its age.
* excellent food in the nice onsite restaurant at very reasonable prices.
* comfortable accommodation for longer stays, not only for in-transit travellers.
* accommodating and helpful staff.
Minuses:
* very loud thumps can be heard in 5th (top) floor rooms from an institutional sized water pump on the roof.
* inconsistent wifi throughout premises.
* breakfast not included with room rate.
* no refrigerator in rooms.
* some people might take issue with the absence of an elevator.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Close to the train station - This hotel was fine, though we were expecting a little more for the price we paid. We chose it because it is situated directly in front of Hua Lamphong train station and MRT stop, so it was very convenient to get to. Though, the area of town has little to see and is difficult to navigate (huge boulevards that are difficult to cross). We arrived around 6pm and found that there were hardly any restaurants still open, so the night life is not too active. The room was very basic but clean. Be prepared to leave a 500 baht deposit for your room key.
- ttye0 (6/5): Location - This is a basic hotel with no lift, the receptionist said sorry to us cos the lower floors were full due to weekend. We needed to carry up our heavy bag to 5th fl omg!.The location was superb, near to hlp train station. We needed to catch tourist train at 6.30am to river kwai and the death railway.tuk-tuk costs 70 baht to yaowarat which was busy on saturday night.I missed t and k seafood. The hotel room was clean, the bed was good, the blanket was a bit thin.Nice decoration on bathroom floor...lotus leaves, frog....
- smalltowngems (10/5): Lovely Respite before train to Chiangmai - This hotel adjacent to Bangkok train station was just what we needed between India and taking train out next am. We flew into Bangkok then took elevated train to connection and underground to the doors of SK.
The staff was most helpful and kept our bags until our return 4 days later. Our room was quite clean and very quiet.
- torben (8/5): ok - Clean and good location near railway. But dull! Friendly staff.
- Janet (6/5): Great value - for what I paid in Canadian dollars I wasn't expected 5 Star Treatment the only complaint I have is the Wi-Fi is terrible and the bed is super hard I will definitely recommend this hotel for one night only because of location
- X3384FCtonyd (6/5): Basic Hotel with a great location for subway and train to station to domestic airport - You will not find anything special here, price is reasonable for what you get but what the hotel really offer is a great location. Literally outside the front door is the subway station and across the street is the central train station which also has a connection to the domestic airport.
- Li Ping (6/5): Good location - It is good for just an overnight stay when you need to get to the Hua Lamphong Station the next day as it is just right opposite the hotel. It has the basic needs, rooms clean but no elevator and we had to lug our own luggages up 6 floors!
- 952tonyf (6/5): Basic hotel with a good location - Firstly this hotel doesn't have a lift. We were on the forth floor which was a bit of an inconvenience with all our bags but no real problem. The second problem I had was that the hotels wifi was basically non existent, you can join it but you can't do much more or really anything on it! Apart from this it met all our basic needs. It's location is quite central, being right beside the main train station in Bangkok. We only stayed here for one night and to be honest I wouldn't have wanted to stay much longer but it did the job
- cwlow48 (2/5): Horrible service - Five floor hotel with no elevator poses great challenges to exhausted visitors. The male service staff at the reception counter was rude and lack of proper communication skills. In-room facilities were not user friendly, eg. high positioned water heater and missing hair dryer.
- Sonia (6/5): Very convenient for train station - Stayed one night prior to getting a morning train and didn't want to spend too much money and was perfect for this. Really good aircon and wifi.
- c (8/5): Handy Location - Very convenient to Hualamphong Station
- eric goh (4/5): hotel close to the MRT right outside the door. - Hotel bed and room is good generally. However the customer service was poor. The room toilet stunk (maybe it was only our room's) but it did not have any hot water for bath. There was no hair dryer either and when requested, we were told to go down to the counter to retrieve it. There is no lift and we stayed on the third floor with a few luggages. At night, the whole lobby and stairway was dimly lighted. On the second floor, a photo was hung on a cupboard. It is understood that it might be for respect to the deceased or previous owner of hotel (not sure about it) but the whole setting, lighting of the hotel and all, makes it really creepy and scary. However, the good thing about the hotel is that the MRT is right outside the hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Hotel near the met - The hotel staffs need training, I asked for the toilet paper and they asked me to go down to get instead . There is no life by the way.
- marco (4/5): nice position, getting better cleaniness - no elevator and no staff helpfull with luggages,5 days without change blanket but only towels everyday. good matress but no window and then in the night you can listen the pollution's Bangkok. ok air condition and fan. The staff didn't say to us the pc was free for customer, we discover at last day.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Hotel, Nice location - This hotel is located just in front of the Hua Lamphong Station (MRT) and very close to the Hua Lamphong National Railway Station.
A fan in a room was broken, but air conditioner was good.
I was satisfied with friendly staff, clean room, and comfortable beds.
- MonikaJK82 (4/5): Close to train Station, Sub-par Lodging - Out of all the hotels/accommodations throughout our trip, this was by far the worst. Dirty sheets, bugs in the bathroom, AC didn't cool room, windows didn't close, roaches running around hotel floors, found ant lines travelling throughout our room... for the location and price, I would get a different hotel a train stop down.
- keith (6/5): one night booked late - I only spent one night here before taking the sleeper train. It was fine the staff were very helpful and it was very close to the railway station. The food was good.
- shinobu (4/5): Meh - We defiantly got some sort of mites from the hotel. We were so itchy. There was no hot water. Nothing like the pictures. But it was okay for one night. There are way better deals other places. But we needed the train in the morning.
- Soubanh (6/5): Good for location only! - the only thing this hotel is good is the location, very convenient for taking a train to other part of Thailand. The room that we stay, has a small window facing a concrete wall. The air condition is not working in our room. Hotel has no lift it is very difficult to carry the luggages up stair, no bell boys.
- Jonah (4/5): good location, wish ac worked - Air conditioner did not work, canopy ready to collapse. Otherwise nice staff and wonderful location.
- Sinforosa (4/5): Awful Hotel, Don't Stay Here - The location of this hotel is excellent. Unfortunately there is nothing else satisfactory about it. The hotel is cheap, which is why the scores were 2/5 rather than 1/5. However, even if you are looking for a cheap hotel in a good location don't choose this place, find an alternative!
The staff barely even registered that we had arrived at the hotel and couldn't show any less attention to you if they tried.
Next to the counter is a sign explaining to guests that if they want to bring back a "companion" then they need to pay the hotel. I wasn't sure if I should laugh when I saw a guest arguing with the hotel about this charge. In addition the room door had a picture of a "companion" on.
The room was small with very old furniture. The shower functioned well but the water didn't drain properly and the bathroom itself was quite horrible. The view outside the window was a wall a foot away.
We found several cockroaches in the room, which was not a problem elsewhere in Thailand, but seemed quite an issue here.
When the room was cleaned, the towels weren't changed and I don't think they did anything other than make the bed.
We hated it.
- Evelyn (6/5): Very simple and basic - We arrived late at night by taxi and the place was not very visible. Good thing I knew it was next to @Hua LamPhong Hotel or we would have missed it.
We had to lug 2 big luggage up to the 5th floor through narrow and steep stairways.
The room was small and bathroom was very basic. The place looks worn. But it was alright for the price we were paying since we were just staying for a night before heading out of Bangkok.
- Verified traveler (6/5): okay place - Simple, clean enough, next to mrt and main train station. $22 for a private room compared to nearby hostel with dorm needs, not much more
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice Place to Stay For Vacationers and Travelers - The hotel was very clean and well kept. There was only a musty smell that is expected in humid area. Turning on the bathroom fan helped air out the room. Also, there is no elevator and we stayed on the fourth floor so you can try and ask for a room on the lower levels if steep stairs is not your thing. Very close to the MRT station which is a good landmark for taxis and tuk-tuk directions. Rollaway beds are not very comfortable but if you ask for a couple extra blankets it's fine to sleep on. The staff was very friendly and helpful in regards to giving directions and recommendations of places to go.
- Jason Ko (4/5): good transport - no service at all.
no ice box.
no lift.
little room area for 2 people.very noise till night. i can't sleep well at night
