Guest Reviews
- Giselle (10/5): - Great clean and comfortable location.
- michael (6/5): - location in relation to city centre and chinatown was good., however its tucked away in a backstreet, which lone travellers may find a bit scary.
- Petra (10/5): - The room was easy to book and check in, also easy to extend stay. The room was very clean and calm and quiet upon arrival and conveniently included a microwave and small refrigerator. Pricing was decent for the convenience and downtown (centralised) location. Staff are helpful and accommodating. After new years it was a bit louder on the first floor. Would recommend for a no-frills yet functional stay for short periods of time.
Remember to keep your room locked though when you go out (thats just common sense).
- Stephen (10/5): Nice place downtown - This location is in downtown, perfect for New Year events. Signed in during a service call but the hostess Iang had everything lined up. I got settled, finished the job, got cleaned up and hit The Cameron House ( just down the street). I just relaxed in the quiet room New Years day.
- Jon (6/5): - The employees are RUDE ZVERT MIVH VGʻ⁹
- Jon (8/5): - Its perfect just to sleep very clean.
- Cherry Ann (10/5): - Staff are accommodating and are all friendly.
- Stephen (8/5): Back in town. - Booked a room I'm familiar with, comfortable bed and a refrigerator and microwave oven handy. Private bathroom with shower too.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - In total, the experience was not good. My reservation includes 1 twin and double bed but the in charged said it was a single bed. The bathroom doesn't have a door which made us uncomfortable for privacy reasons since there were 3 of us that will be using the washroom. The in charged should be more polite
- Kasheanne (2/5): - I couldnt even stay at the place because of its condition and I wanted a redund in which I send an email to expedia to no avail and no response so it was poor service from expedia as well cause I had to find another place to stay, spending even more money.
- Abigail (4/5): - We were moved rooms because we paid for a private bathroom and the original room had a leak. They shuffled us to a different building where we were put in a basement room. You could hear everything in the building from this tiny, tiny room. Bathroom was gross, clearly the showerhead doesn't get cleaned and the sink did not drain (someone had stuffed tissues down it.) Great location.
- Valerie (6/5): - Paid parking right next to apartment which was great. $10 for 12 hours.
No place to hang anything. A couple of hooks on the back of doors would have helped.
The room had another door connecting to another room which was against my bed.At 315 am some new arrivals tried very hard to open it. Held my foot against it.
Person was very nice, came over to the building and checked me in earlier so I could then arrive whenever that evening.
Very clean!
- Angus (8/5): - The cleaning person was absolutely amazing and accommodating. The early check in was not an option that day but she got us in as soon as possible. The room was an economical choice and had no frills. Great option if you are trying to budget, not a comfortable stay.
- Gerrol (6/5): Not that good but enough. - I was charged more than what was offered in Hotels.com. Too bad.
- Sidra (4/5): - They didn’t show the room pictures while booking and once we landed there, the room was like a hole and looked very shady.
- Stephen (8/5): - It is good value for a convenient location in the downtown area. This building is located away from the main streets so the area is relatively quiet. There is a choice of private bathrooms or ones shared on the floor. All are clean snd well maintained.
- Brian (8/5): - Welcoming. Comfortable. Location. All good.
- Rabiul (4/5): - it is not liking, it is about the cost and service provided. Service provided is not satisfying level as per cost/price you are taking.
- Grzegorz (2/5): Outdated and cramped! - Definitely not worth $100 a night! The single room was extremely small the bed was made for a small child not an adult. I checked in and two minutes later wanted to leave this place so when I got ahold of the manager they refused to talk to me about a partial refund.
- José (6/5): - It’s very noisy. People would come in and out in the middle of the night and the door would always bang shut and wake me up. On the good side, it’s very centric. Staff not very visible, but were nice.
- cadence (6/5): - Honestly I wasn't expecting much for 50$. Just needed somewhere to rest after a early morning flight. But there was little sleeping happening. The walls are paper thin; you can hear the people in other rooms beds creak and when the girls in the room next to me woke up at 6 I could hear every word they said and hear the shower. Plus there was a minor fire next door that had an obnoxious alarm going off for 1.5 hours starting at 430 am, not that that was their fault, just added insult to injury. Also booked a room that was supposed to have a shared bathroom between 2 rooms but then they told me it's actually on the second floor and I was on the first with a foot injury. Btw, says 1130 check out and it's actually 11, thank God I didn't sleep and opted to leave early. It's basically a sketchy hostel located behind the dumpsters of another building in a crummy alleyway that smelt like hard drugs. The attendant that let me in at 3 am was nice though.
- Lisa (6/5): - This place is for if you need somewhere to sleep and use the bathroom. Don't expect anything better for the price. Not dirty, but not the cleanest. Bring your own towel and maybe some slippers. It's in a fantastic location though and very walkable. You get what you pay for.
- Han (8/5): - Convenient to go everywhere else in Toronto.
- Mark (10/5): - Very comfortable place in a great location.
- Liz (6/5): - Room was far too hot. Very uncomfortable to be in due to the heat and no air. By law states room has to be 21 but not necessarily with heating on.
Was early October 9-11 and very nice weather wise.
Otherwise an ok stay. Squeaky bed, every time I moved, bathroom and shower which was ideal.
Very basic but acceptable.
Host was very welcoming and quick to respond when we arrived.
I’d use it again although expensive for what you get. (Very very basic room)
Area is great, right in the heart of Chinatown and a nice walk to lakeshore etc
- Maria Sheila (4/5): - It was warm in our room. We asked for an additional electric fan and was told thatvthey will give us but it did not happen.. we were told to open the window to have fresh air instead of the aircon. No toilet paper, hand soap instead of body wash.
- danielle (2/5): - The property looks dingy. Accommodations are very basic, not so clean or welcoming.
- Kassidy (8/5): - My second time staying here! The alley way was more active with traffic, and with the ac still in the window (not on) things can get quite noisy. Someone beside me also couldn’t figure out how to close the door without slamming it. Overall though the beds decent & I got a hot shower.
- HAOSHENG (8/5): - Good
- Deborah (2/5): - There were dodgy electrical connections - outlet covers hanging off the wall. Mattress was plank hard. A fridge and microwave were there, and a laundry tub for a sink but no dishes, cutlery, washing up gear. I needed the laundry which displayed a $2 coin required to use machines, but on trying to start one, was told I needed $5 in coins. Towels provided were hand-towel size. No tea-towel. A few dark hairs lying around. Just unpleasant.
- arnold (6/5): - I dont like cause the aircon not working properly
- Vasily (6/5): - It is China Town area. Everything is not so far. If you don’t have a car you can get there from airport by Uber.
Friendly staff
- Karthik (2/5): - Very poor. Pipe drain wasn't working. Shower tape was not working - either too hot or too cold. There was no mirror too. Linens were smelly. Very poor maintenance of the property. Not impressed at all.
- Kimberly (2/5): Not as Advertised - I didn't even stay. When I arrived, after finding an alleyway that led to the building, and followed the instructions to check in. I was told through the ring doorbell as I stood on the porch that I could not go in. That the AC was broken and we had to go to a different location. I was having trouble getting the correct new address through the speaker so someone came over to meet me. I was informed that there was also no parking, even though the listing said there was. I went to the new address and was told there was parking and was directed to another alleyway. But to use it, we had to pay, even though the listing did not say it would be charged on top of the rental fee. The room was very small and the beds were uncomfortable. We did not stay and ended up getting a room at an actual hotel
- Trevor (8/5): - This isn't a hotel or motel room so you'll be disappointed if you judge it by those standards. The private rooms are basically a hostel without the sharing part. So the 4 stars are relative to the price. I was worried when booking discount accommodations that the place when be dirty or have problems with pests or safety so I was relieved not to have any of those issues. I also like that guests can come and go as they please any time of day using an electronic front door code.
But for the cost they did cut corners in other areas such as the bathroom which was directly in the room (which was basically a closet), there was no sink, and there being no window other than if you open one of two doors to the deck. But that window didn't open. There was also only a bright white overhead light controlled by a wall switch and no lamp. The second night was also a like noisy.
But it was clean, affordable, and seemed safe which is tough to find in an expensive destination so as long as you know what you're getting it's fine.
- Asia (4/5): - Room conditions were poor.
Dirty: clean sheets were stained, towels smelled of vinegar, there was hair left in the shower and sink drain and small flies like insects were gradually building up in the room’s bathroom. Also saw a few crawling animals in the room. Bathroom cupboard was dirty.
Damaged: Air conditioning was not working and there was a DIY replacement (small box held with nails and ropes) for fresh air who was noisy and left gaps in the wall surrounding it which the tenant attempted to path using plastic bags. Fridge was noisy and dirty.
Noisy: The room was noisy by the fridge, ventilation and you could hear everything from the surrounding rooms until late at night. My room had a locked door adjacent so noise wise it was like sharing a room.
Safety issue: it felt safe and the rooms had keys but there was a latch outside the door that look like someone could put a manual lock outside the door and lock you in from the outside which is not great.
Refund: due to the room conditions I had to leave after the first 2 nights. I had found another hotel for the rest of my stay. I asked for partial refund and got nothing back. The owner is not getting back to Expedia and therefore I cannot get any money back.
Overall, I think the owner is nice but clearly trying to handle too much which in return reflected by the state of the accommodation. Would not recommend if you have other options.
- Barbara (10/5): - This was my first stay here and I enjoyed it immensely.
I've never had such an experience before so I was a bit all thumbs about it... but the staff we're exceptionally helpful.
Naturally, I read the reviews before I booked, and I want to address some of the things I read there:
1. Yes, there was a bright light that kept going on and off outside my window: it was a security light. It is not the fault of the staff that it was being triggered by whatever was going on outside.
*When I travel, I wear something over my eyes to keep out any light, and I recommend everyone do the same.
2. Yes, it was noisy at times: you're in the middle of downtown Toronto, so it is to be expected.
*Along with bringing something for my eyes, I also bring ear plugs which help keep out most noises.
3. If "The area around the property" means the area beyond the property's boundaries, it did not get 5 out of 5 stars because it looks rather out of sorts... and it, too, is not the responsibility of the staff. There was also maintenance work being done on the building beside it, again, not the responsibility of the staff.
And finally: If you are expecting something like of the Ritz- Carlton, this is not the place for you: it is a traveler's hostel... basically, a place for you to lay your head, wash up, and do a load of laundry as you need it.
Keep these things in mind, and you will have a good stay.
And my last piece of advice: be kind to the staff.
- m l (4/5): - Affordable clean and quiet and easy walking to convention centre
There is no ability to connect with manager of the property
Several attempts to confirm booking by text and phone were not answered
Had left off the last night of booking - was able to be extended - but ….
No amenities - no hangers or cups for example but did provide toilet paper soap and towels
- Alba (8/5): - An excellent place to stay in the heart of Toronto. The hosts were always friendly and available to meet any needs. Their attention to detail made our stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!
- Penelope (6/5): - These are definitely "student digs" - took me back 50 years! I had a small bed sit but the kitchen facilities were only a microwave with no crockery or cutlery. Tiny space where you could hardly open the door for the bed. Good bathroom. Fire exit not safe - nowhere to go once outside. One staff person very helfpul, the others not at all friendly.
- Kastytis (6/5): - The location is really good, within a walking distance to the city centre. But the hotel itself looks like recently renovated, room was super small, bathroom facilities new, the bed was made of metal and moving, walls were so thin and shaking when people were slamming doors in halway, and we saw cockroaches in room aswell.
- Stephen (8/5): Pick washroom options wisely - As I didn't intend to stay in the room often I elected to take a room with a shared washroom. I had a spacious room in the basement but the washroom is on the second floor. ( there is another on the third as well). Normally this would suffice but I had a meal that didn't agree and made for an interesting night. The hotel does offer in suite bathrooms as well.
- Francois (8/5): - Thank you
- Naza (8/5): - The staff were very helpful... and very cordial...
- Naza (8/5): - Excellent value for the cost. Staff were very helpful.
- AMANDEEP (2/5): - Very unprofessional service, no proper contact & support service. The owner asks to text after avoiding the call. The place is fishy & scam. No refund even after going for refundable choice. So don't book here.
- brian (6/5): - Cheap and good location
- Brendan (6/5): - Very budget accommodation with a few questionable features. However for the price it was in a good position and appeared safe.
- Normand (10/5): - I was well received by staff. Great location with reasonable rates, Public parking is beside location.
- John douglas (2/5): - You guys need to get your places better . This entire building has sick building syndrome
- Daniel (8/5): - Staff does not interact with guests. Room I staye d in was aboutt 4X8 feet. Shared bathroom with other guests on 2nd Floor (more than 2). Place can be a challenge to find and get to especially when approaching from Dundas Street where Google Maps directs you. It's not clear what Willison Square is. I would think it would be the Mall on the corner or apartments next door. The "16" spray painted around the building is evidence that others the had a similar experience of not being able to easily find or access to the building, (It's fenced in on Willison Place) on a highly urbanized area and the staff did not come out to meet me by the fence where I had walked up to after leaving my car on the street. Please inform guests of how to approach the building doesn"t have uellow steps ad in the outdated picture. Yes parking is available. When, where, how much? Please elaborate. Is parking available for check in? I was concerned about getting a parking ticket.
For staff and owner, maybe for work on your soft skills a bit. Say hello, can I help you, thank you. Staff I met were nice, but apparently not very much aware that provide a service which people put their trust in you as they stay in an unfamiliar place. It appeared that the owner was painting in order to help the appearance inside the building and that's nice to see.
- Kaygie Ann (4/5): - The property location is very central. It's close to public transit and lots of dining and shopping. Its walking distance from downtown Toronto, the Eaton Centre and The CN Tower. The property however could use some serious upgrading. It felt very ghetto. The bathroom in the room didn't even have a door on it. It was in a basement and the stair entrance was dirty. I questioned the safety as I saw only one entrance and exit. It was clean enough but the fixtures in the bathroom need replacing. This is unacceptable in a country such as Canada where these things are dirt cheap. I would not recommend staying here especially if you are used to average Canadian accommodations. I would have sought another place to stay if i had know how it was before I came and they charged my card.
- george (2/5): Mouse in the house - There was a mouse in the room. No elevator. Poor finishes for the tiles and paint in the room.
- adrian (8/5): - The manager is very kind and helpful
- Stephen (8/5): Private room. - A small room that is but too small. The bed is firm and comfortable. The room has a refrigerator and microwave.
- Roslyn (2/5): - I really loved having to remove my shoes in common areas and lugging my stuff up two narrow flights of stairs barefoot.
Safety First.
- Jacob (10/5): - It was ok
- Rayyan (2/5): - Booking amenities were inaccurate. No private bathroom - inaccurate per the advertisement. Accommodation was dirty and worn out. One staff member remarked they felt unsafe staying there. Refund was challenging as it took a several weeks to hear a response from staff, was unsure if Expedia would cover it. Would strongly recommend not booking here.
- Gagandeep (10/5): - Nice
- Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid but you’ll survive. - As close to a roach motel without seeing an actual roach. Check in was frantic. Lady was nice but unorganized and had to repeat everything multiple times until she understood what I was saying.
It’s basically a frat house that has never been renovated. Rooms had a sink but had to go to the second floor for the bathroom from the basement.
Overpriced and shouldn’t be more than maybe $40 a night or less.
- Neeru (10/5): - Safe
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place for a group of college students trveling on a budget ! Great lication! Will come back!
- Angela (8/5): Affordable & comfortable - This was a very affordable option near downtown. Getting in was difficult, you must press the doorbell and then stand in front of it the ENTIRE time. I rang the bell as initially instructed, no answer. I texted some of the numbers listed, no response. Finally I called. A guy said she would be there in 5 min. After 10 min I called back and was scolded for not standing in front of the door bell the entire time. The woman who let us in was very nice and apologetic for keeping us waiting. Just the guy in the phone is not very friendly.
The room was very clean, extremely basic (no cups to drink water from the bathroom tap). Beds are very comfortable (firm). We would stay here again (now we know how to “check-in”). FYI: There are no elevators.
- Victor (6/5): - Didn’t have room per reservation but gave us 2 others instead. Shared bathroom instead of private. Location good. Close to downtown. Will hear next room if music or talking loud.
- Miguel (8/5): - Its walkable to many shops and easy access to transportation!
- Ermanno Al (10/5): - Nothing fancy but a Good clean place to crash near Kensington Market
- Gerardo (10/5): - It was all good, thanks
- Cara (2/5): - Manager was ignorant. Property not fit for anyone.
- Kaia (8/5): - Very clean, minimal AC. Good experience for the cost.
- Manu Darko (2/5): - I didn’t like the fact that I was told to go to a different place because what I had booked earlier was occupied.. room smells bad.
- Andrew (6/5): - You get what you pay for. But for the most part it was clean
- David (10/5): - Very reasonable price, comfortable bed, air conditioning, private bathroom, and 24/7 checkin. It's a short ride by streetcar to the subway from here. It's also a short walk to Queen St. from here which has lots of dining and shopping options.
- SHAVONE (2/5): - I would not stay in a place like this for vacation again
- Kamal (8/5): Budget accomodation - The price was substantially lower than average hotel price in Toronto. So it was what we expected in terms of overall quality. But, it was clean, coin laundry was on site, there was a functinal AC unit in the room and hot water for shower, a fridge and a sink. If you are looking for a budget accomodation right in Chinatown, i recommend this place.
- James (10/5): - Pretty basic, but fine if you just need a reasonably priced place to crash. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
- Alfred (10/5): Perfect for what we needed - We stayed here because we were attending a concert and were looking for an affordable place to stay for one night this definitely served the purpose
- Gabriel (6/5): Convenient location - Convenient location in downtown Toronto. Apartments converted into rooms which aren’t at its best.
No shampoo in the room.
- Michelle Christine (8/5): - The area was great for anything we needed, right in the middle.of everything! It's set back from the main roads so it wasn't crazy loud - with the AC running, we didn't hear anything at all from outside. The bathroom was pretty small, but overall, the room had everything we needed - beds, microwave, fridge. Would definitely stay here again.
- Nara Lúcia (4/5): If you can tolerate somethings it is an ok place. - The place is inexpensive, one of the cheapest in Toronto (keep this in mind). It is ideal for students or people who like to enjoy the city the ALL day and just need a place to sleep, shower and storage luggage. There was no place to star age clothes, no coffee machine or a place to seat other than a wooden chair. No room service. One night was very noisy due to people partying at the corridors. Air conditioner was very noisy as well. On the other hand, bed sheets were clean, shower was good, wireless connection fast. Everything was close, public transportation, restaurants and attractions.
- Dianne (10/5): - It was good.
- Zahra (4/5): - The apartment is different from the one was shared by photo at the site, there was so crowded
- Lyle (6/5): - This was a unique student resident in the Kensington area. It was clean. They had secure parking on site forva charge. The price was very cheep. I would stay there again.
- Jithin (2/5): - Delayed reply from the representative. Most importantly there was no water available in the entire building on July 25. Since water a basic need was denied, I would not recommend this to any one and I will have a second thought while booking this apartment again. It was a terrible experience.
- Midhun (8/5): - Good
- Ashok (4/5): - there no change in bed sheets during the period I stay no on visited to clean the room
- Verified traveler (10/5): Friend service - Ashley provided us friendly service.
- David (10/5): Thank you - Awesome...very convenient and staff was great. Will stay again
- Jiping (10/5): - The manager of the property was really friendly and helpful. The property quality matches its price. And it does have AC, microwave oven and fridge!
It is a good option if you travel single or on a tight budget.
- Martha (2/5): For desperate only. - Had to wait for the check-in person to come down, after which I was informed that the room I paid for was unavailable, and I could pay for an upgrade or walk to a different location. Different location turned out to not quite match the room I paid for anyway. Bugs, cockroaches, dirty tampon in the fridge, no ac, wifi not working. Shower, I'd be scared to use. When I lay in bed, my body was as long as the room was wide, by which I mean it was ridiculously tiny. After killing a few roaches, I managed to get a pretty terrible sleep. Didn't run away cause a similar thing happened to me before, so I was low-key expecting it. I appreciate anecdotal value, but paying almost $200 for two nights (of which i spend only one in) is way too much for the slums standards. Also, my day at work was pretty difficult as a result.
Location is good, lady was nice and I didn't see any bedbug marks but that doesn't mean they're not there.
- Michael (10/5): - Friendly staff, clean room, great location within walking distance of Rogers Centre / CN Tower. This is a "5 Star", 1 Star hotel. Would book again.
- Molly (8/5): - The property was fine basic but all necessities. Right close to where we wanted to be. Easily walkabe to anything you need. Ashley who took care of anythong was great coudnt have asked.for.better staff. She was there whatever we needed, and was geat with my 2 year old grandbaby.
- Graeme (6/5): - Basic no-frills accomm. with an inconveniently located shared bathroom/laundry on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
- Joseph (8/5): Great value - Basic accommodations, great value for your money. Location was good amd room was clean upon arrival. Check in and check out super easy. Ashley insured we had everything we needed she is a great asset to your property.
- Albert (2/5): - Gross property, unorganized staff, smelled like mold and mildew.
Had to find different accommodations because this was uninhabitable. DO NOT STAY
- Vanessa (6/5): - Lady that checked me in was very friendly and helpful. All that was left was a basement room, so she walked me around the corner to their other property, called Toronto Travellers Home. Building looks sketchy like most others in this neighborhood but the room itself was just fine. Tight space in the bathroom, but it was clean, and has been renovated. Close to public transit. Air conditioning worked fine, and nice to have a fan and fridge in the room as well. My only negatives: building hallway noise was so loud, both with guests and staff, loud talking, slamming doors, loud walking, all night long. There was no microwave, unlike the listing. Could hear people in the next room using their toilet. Lock on front door has security code, which is good, but room door was a simple bedroom door lock, not a proper exterior door lock, or deadbolt. As a solo female traveller, this made me uncomfortable, and I actually left after one night to find another proper hotel. If a lock like that doesn’t bother you, and you aren’t a light sleeper, you’ll find this hostel fine.
- Mike (8/5): - It was great location.
- Clint J (6/5): - Adequate for cost - amenities few - sleep and prep to go about - good location - Chinatown - transit etc.
- William (10/5): - This was amazing, amazing location, amazing staff, amazing and easy parking and absolutely amazing service. Also loved having the AC blasting!
- Zareena (8/5): - Close to everything
- Andre (4/5): - Negative points : When I arrived I noticed the room floor I was not cleaned. The air conditioned is super noise, the room's door has almost 1 centimeter of gap, poor isolation between rooms. The microwave plug doesn't reach the plug in the wall.
Positive points: Microwave, fridge and washbasin in the room, bathroom clean, the staff is kind.
