- Vernon (10/5): - This was a great find on my first visit to the city,! The location is ideal: near the Center, but not loud . The rooms were colorful and well-maintained. The best thing was the rooftop spa, which I used twice a day. It has a spectacular view of Santo Domingo! (I just wish that it were open after seven.) The breakfast was great, especially thanks to our waitress Yvonne. She was super friendly and attentive. The front desk staff were all very courteous and helpful.

Hours of restaurant are pretty random. Itblooksnlike there's a pool bitnits just a javuzzinand it doesnt get hot. There is a large deck bit it has no furniture, nothing going on.

Beautiful quaint property with lovely colourful decorations. Room was comfortable enough though the mattress was very firm and water pressure a bit light. Not deal breakers for me though. The restaurant attached is small and generally only open for breakfast and lunch, maybe because was quiet at hotel but while food was fine, given Oaxacan cuisine is amazing I was expecting more and would have eaten elsewhere on reflection but was convenient and amaZing views over city towards San Domingo church. Would recommend as a lovely spot to explore Oaxaca from and be very comfortable and excellent service :)

The jacuzzi and spa area closes at 7pm, this was unexpected as is regarded as private area for the suite. Couldn't find that in the policies online in Expedia. Better cleaning in the shower is commendable as there was black mold behind the window curtain. The door curtain could be darker and thicker, it lets the light and voices in.
- Sean (10/5): Oaxaca gem - We had a lovely time at this hotel with our family of 5 - staying in 2 rooms. We loved the outdoor terrace space. We enjoyed breakfast and midday snacks at the restaurant. The workout room is well equipped which we did use on some rainy days. Beds were firm, clean and comfortable. The hotel is charming with a welcoming and very helpful staff. It is a short enjoyable walk to Oaxaca sites.

This place has all the amenities I needed, including a daily carafe of water in the room and an AC unit. The only issue I had was the doorbell of the hotel. It does not function well. Often pressing the doorbell did not notify the front desk.

- Foresta (10/5): - This property was so beautiful with courtyard gardens and cafe, terraza and roof top Jacuzzi with panoramic views! It made the longer walk from the bus station worth it! It was only 10 minutes from the Zocolo in Centre and close to several nearby parks and churches and cafes and restaurants. I would highly recommend. The view alone is spectacular and not to be missed!

Our room under the pool deck could be a little loud at times due to machinery but overall we really enjoyed it and was fair for the price. Staff were a plus, available 24/7 and helped us book our taxi transport to the airport when we left. Would return!

- Todd (2/5): - The property lists no cancellation policy in Expedia. None. I did not intend to book this property and accidentally tapped on it. At this point a "no cancellations" policy was made visible. Calls to Expedia to explain the error in booking were met with assurances that they would "sort it out" but in the end they failed to do this. Management at this property was unresponsive and generally unhelpful and the lack on onsite parking was a deal breaker. Overall, I'd call this a scam that is all about fleecing people out of money. Apparently hanging onto an accidental charge they didn't deserve was more important than making a potential future client and neighbor happy. Not even a partial refund for nights more than 24 hours out was possible despite attempting to cancel within ten minutes of making the booking by accident. They will never get my booking or recommendation with that kind of attitude.

- Alejandro (10/5): - It was close to Oaxaca's centre yet just outside so the rate was great. The only issue I had is that the AC unit was blowing cold air all night directly to our bed, therefore, I got a cold. Other than that the Hotel is great.

It was quiet (and surprisingly cool) at night and allowed for good sleep, which we desperately needed after some hectic and sleepless nights in CMDX. Staff was courteous and without prompt, honored our request to arrange a taxi back to the airport at the exact time we requested. The AC in the room worked wonders.

Hotel restaurant wasn't good. No complimentary coffee or tea for the room. Staff is nice. Location is great. Terrace jacuzzi is great, but closing access at 7pm is way too early for people who want to do all the sightseeing.

While some minor issues like small bathrooms and hard bed, but nonetheless, the comfortable and convenient base for exploring Oaxaca indicates the reason I would stay there again.

What I didn’t like was the location of the toilet bar. It was behind me instead of to the right or left of me. Hard to twist your body to get to the toilet paper. The room also didn’t have a bath or hand towel bar. It only had a hook.

Access to hotel controlled by magnetic lock and rooms vary between key card and key. Unfortunately no fridge or safe. Nice colonial hotel with central greenery. Towels need an upgrade. The door to access room is a colonial split door which is cool but does not provide privacy. We hung a dress on the inside of the door to correct. Bathroom is a bit small. Nice sitting areas throughout. Would stay again.

The restaurant had good food, though they're only open for breakfast & lunch (7:30am - 1:00pm). But there are loads of good restaurants & cafes all around in walking distance. Its a,short walk to the Santo Domingo church & botanical gatden, and the zocalo/town square are also in walking distance. No pool, but theres a jacuzzi on the roof with a fantastic view. I loved this place & I would stay here again.

The room was spacious, with comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. We appreciated the a/c in the late afternoon before the night air cooled everything off. Highly recommend!
- oscar (4/5): - I have stayed in Oaxaca a few times and this is the only place I did not like for a few things, the cleanliness could be better, the bath towels were pretty rough, the room needed a few air freshener, the bathroom sink needed deeper cleaning, you can barely see the staff.

The front desk staff was kind and accommodating. We appreciated the security around having to ring the door for access to the hotel, ensuring that random people couldn't just come in.

- Charles (6/5): Meh... Was ok. - Pretty good location, but they miss so many details. The desk staff, except for one wonderful young woman, was not particularly friendly or helpful. We kind of felt like we were bothering the guys. The restaurant was good, but closes at 4PM. There is nowhere to get ice on the property except the restaurant...and they charged us for 2 plastic cups of ice. Coffee too. We got 4 pods on the first day, but that's it. Bathroom had only one towel bar. Water pressure was super inconsistent. Our room had a kitchenette, but it was poorly stocked. No bowls for eating or mixing, no microwave, no kitchen towels. Beds were uncomfortable (to us, anyway). Very little decor. Place was big and roomie, but the walls were mostly bare except for one picture. All in all it was ok, but I expected more. Would not recommend.

Also, we had booked this place because of the jacuzzi and only on arrival found out it was only open until 7:00. So we had no benefit of that amenity. Quite disappointing!

- Penboy7 (6/5): Great staff but room for improvement - First the attributes. The people working at Casa del Sontano, on the front desk and the small cafe on the terrace in particular, were very helpful and kind. They made our stay as pleasant as possible and exuded the hospitable charm of Oaxaca. This hotel is very close to the main attractions, including Templo de Santo Domingo, with a beautiful view from the roof that comes at an affordable price. Although we did not have a chance to use the jacuzzi, we loved the view, especially at sunrise. One other benefit, out of the four places we stayed in Oaxaca they had the best and most consistent WiFi, so digital nomads may enjoy working at the terrace restaurant. However, the hotel reminded me of the comparisons between Instagram photos vs reality. The reviews of other guests seem that they stayed at another location. The large property may have been luxurious at one time, but our two rooms were small and dark, with a damp odor. The doors were awkward, with the small entrances split in half requiring you to go inside sideways. It would also be difficult for a person with mobility issues to navigate all the stairs, but the city would be challenging on its own. While I cannot recommend staying here, we did find a way to make do and were greatly assisted by the staff.
- Jose (6/5): Bad front desk service - I had i bad experience with the front desk ,when we were checking out, the front desk girl sad we couldn't leave until she went and check out our room she came back aftwr 30 minutes ,that she left us waiting in the lobby (which made is loose our bus)she came back with a face wash towel and told me she had found a tear very small tear in the towel which she wanted to charge us for it ,we never even ised that towel because we bring our own seco d the towels were so old thta i wouldn't even use i told her that we didn't even used the towel that we used our own ,she finally let use go after an hour but it did made us loose our bus
- Lora (10/5): - Very nice location slightly away from the fast paced center but easy walking distance from everything. Nice, small restaurant with the perfect setting for morning coffee and breakfast.
