Guest Reviews
- Erika (10/5): - Definitely haunted but Lauren was fantastic and I slept well there.
- Mike (10/5): - This is a lovely little gem, situated in a calm area, complete with a hiking trail within walking distance. There is something special here, including the complimentary breakfast burritos.
- Alfredo (8/5): - The house is over 140 years old. Its leaning however the owner has made every effort to make it comfortable and cozy. Tiny details everywhere to make your stay comfortable. The bed was comfortable. We were initially surprised and cautious but we had a restfull quiet night. Kudos to Lauren to make this hotel a great option
- Samantha (3/5): Careless and unprofessional - The hotel looks charming. The self check-in was confusing with no clear instructions, I had to look in every room and guess which room was mine.
NO BREAKFAST even though it was included a it said it would be served in the booking. There was literally nothing available, and I had to eat fruit I had left in my car.
The host tried to overcharge me, watch out they don’t charge you more than what is shows on booking. I just spoke to the host on the phone 5 minutes before the payment, so she knew what the price of my booking was.
I reached out via WhatsApp to ask about the breakfast, checking in and disappointing experience. But I never got an answer, which is the reason I decided to leave this review.
Overall careless and unprofessional.
- Richard (10/5): - My stay in this historic hotel was perfect. Being in this historic hotel and town with all the stories made the stay even better. The owner/proprietor made me feel at home. We had great homemade cookies, muffins, and breakfast burritos. Her knowledge of the hotel history and who had stayed there in the past was incredible. Such as Edison and Tesla as past guests. I plan to stay again whenever I’m in the area. Next time will be a longer stay. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
- Melissa (10/5): - Such a little gem in the mountains! I saw a show at Red Rocks and didn't want to stay the right next to the venue. I found this wonderful little place just a 1/2 hour down the road, closer to where I'm living. Would highly recommend
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- LANDON (10/5): - Hotel was amazing!
- David (8/5): A late 1800s gem! Unique and different - An amazingly old hotel built in late 1800s and it feels like it!! Original wooden boards at the entry. The house is on a lean and even the staircase is on a tilt. Very unique, but expected for an almost 150 year old home.
Home creaks like a ghost may be around the corner.
A real neat experience. The quiet hours are real. I got “shhhhh’d” right after 10 and was just talking with son. I hope it was not the creaky floors. You gotta walk to bathroom!
- Shari (10/5): Amazing place w/ a fabulous hostess..will return! - Super cool and historic property! Place was warm and cozy with an amazing historic and friendly vibe! Lauren is just lovely and her story of the bldg is super sweet. I arrived after dark but easily navigated my way around. Lauren was also available by phone to answer a few questions. Breakfast was yummy with many great options! My only request...eliminate bacon. Pigs are very intelligent animals with feelings of pain, joy and community. :-)
- Donna (8/5): Historic gem in lovely location. - Stopped here during a snowstorm when pulled off the highway - a nice find! This is gem of a place in a beautiful location, and provided us what we needed. With self-check in, and our late arrival during a storm, we never saw anyone at all. Shared bathroom is clean, bed was comfortable, and morning provided muffins and beverages in lounge. We were grateful.
- Akshay (10/5): - Very comfortable stay, with really wholesome breakfast. Loved the decor, really appreciate the attention to detail to maintain a Victorian vibe. Hope to visit again!
- Robert (10/5): - Will be back!
- Joe (8/5): Warmer would be nicer but love this place - Great atmosphere I love the idea of the old timey house it was great other than the fact that it's an actual old house and the bedroom was freezing all night long with the heater on high other than that great place fun definitely full communal though that didn't bother me any! Thanks for the stay
- Jered (10/5): Stay in history! - Short stay, but loved the history of the building and the ease of check-in.
- Kelsey (10/5): - Always a fun place to stay. Cool mountain town.
- Deneice (10/5): WINDSOR Hotel, Silver Plume - Great stay fresh out of history, creaky floors slanted hallways, felt like a haunted house with lots of friendly ghosts! Great hostess who was friendly and full of information and made fresh pumpkin muffins and burritos for breakfast. I cant wait to go back to stay in another turn of the century room!
- Joseph (10/5): - Great nostalgia feel. Like a trip into the past.
- Isabel (10/5): - Amazing place for our quick trip to Silver Plume! Lauren was very kind and responsive. Fantastic hospitality and adorable house.
- Tom (10/5): - Got in late , easy entry. Nice shower , very comfortable bed. Nice breakfast and conversation with proprietor. She text me after I left , showing me my watch charger I had left . And easily retrieved after our train ride , which is 5 minutes away.
- Julie (8/5): Very good - Very picturesque and quaint, welcoming and homely, nice snacks and breakfast items. Our bed was comfortable and the host very pleasant and informative. Our friends bed not so comfortable, very creaky and uneven floors thought I know nothing can be done about that.
- Greg (10/5): - I needed a last minute late night hotel close to Mount Bierstadt so I can claim it the next morning. This worked out perfect. I got up at 3:00 and there was coffee, tea and food in the breakfast area so I was able to get fueled up and ready for the climb. It was Great!
- Matthew (10/5): - Great 1 night stay after visiting Georgetown. This property is super unique, charming and full of history. Great little B & B, will stay there again.
- Alexis (10/5): - Beautiful! Love the food, atmosphere and cozy room. There is also a trail to hike up within walking distance. Leads to an old mine/mining area! The bed was very comfy. We stayed in room 6. Walking around the town was also very fun.
- Janice (10/5): - The historic hotel was a nice and quiet treat. Small lovely town and close to Georgetown making it an affordable stay. Homemade breakfast burritos were delicious. Coffee available too. Nice stay!
- Timothy (10/5): Charm and character. - Place had charm and character...floors/stairs creeked, nicely decorated, nice TV, lobby, breakfast room to chat with other guests.
- Brian (10/5): - Met all my needs for the trip. I really enjoy supporting a local business owner, instead of a big corporation hotel chain.
- David (9/5): Very nice B&B in a very old unique building - Perfect location for hiking a couple of 14,000 foot peaks Only one bathroom, but it didn’t cause any issues
- Robert (10/5): - free breakfast with homemade muffins & coffee
Great Stay , Thank you
- Olivia (10/5): - This hotel was so cute! The owner was very friendly and helpful. And the neighborhood was pretty.
- gregory (10/5): - This house has unbelievable character and Lauren was a very warm and welcoming host. Good vibes across the board
- D (8/5): - Very unique stay! Hotel is definitely old, but is well taken care of. All floors are very un-level, but that added to the character of the old building. Bed was soft, but we slept fine. Beautiful setting right in the mountains!
- Jeremy (10/5): - Loved my stay here, great vibes in this place. Stayed the night in a nice room in Blackhawk the next evening but enjoyed my 2 nights here even more. Felt like going back in time & made for a unique memorable experience. Definitely will return!
- Ronaldo Jose (10/5): Good options for skiers and snowboarders - Stayed in the single bedroom. Everything was very simple and “homey”. Felt like I was staying at someone’s house. The bathroom is shared with others but I had no issues. The host made some delicious burritos for breakfast in the morning! Obviously it’s not a luxurious stay, but it is worth it if you are skiing and just want to be close to the mountain. Be prepared to have a plan for food as there aren’t many restaurants around.
- Beatriz (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing, everything was perfect
- Bryan (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Room was clean and inviting. Because it is a historic building, there is only one bathroom that services all guests on the second floor (you just need to be aware of that). Owner was a gracious host and we enjoyed visiting with her and other guests. Would definitely stay there again. It is a nice change from a standard hotel.
- Jim (7/5): Good -
- Kaileigh (10/5): - Very charming and has lots of character. We felt right at home
- Xi (5/5): Hidden Service Charge - Breakfast (a burrito per person) is good. There is a hidden 18% surcharge that was not listed on Booking.com (it's 15% mentioned in another review). There was no receipt to indicate what this is. When I realized it after checking out and contact the host asking for explanation and receipt, I never got reply.
Room is small. Wifi is weak. One bathroom.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Charming unique antique be this property.
Make sure that expedia has your latest cell phone nunber
- Anna (10/5): - Our stay at Windsor was absolutely lovely. It's a 140 year old building so you should expect luxury. We would stay here over a new hotel any day though! The owner is super cool and chatted with us over breakfast. And by the way, the breakfast is much better (homemade) than most basic hotel breakfasts. The bathroom and shower room are both shared, but there are not too many guests so we didn't have a problem using them when we needed.
We had to share a full bed which was the only downside, but some of the 140 year old rooms are tiny so that's all that could fit! For one night it's not a big deal. We would absolutely stay here again for all the character this B&B provides!
- Jared (10/5): - Is historically significant Hotel with a lot of charm. The service provided was incredible and the experience was one of a kind. It’s not a fancy hotel by any meats, but it will be a memorable night.
- Ziliang (8/5): Good stopover option on I70 west - As a homestead inn it is nice with a lot of historic charm, great location, friendly owner and good breakfast offerings. There is a 15% surcharge when booked through Booking.com that is not disclosed, WiFi is weak.
- Caleb (10/5): - Cute historical hotel. I never met the host, but they were very polite on the phone and the complimentary breakfast food was delicious! Will stay there again if I get the chance.
- Eric (10/5): Edison AND Tesla stayed here - It's small, and inconvenient, but worth it to stay in a historic hotel the way people used to. The owner was there and helpful, and made very nice breakfast burritos.
- Amelia (10/5): - This is such a cute place! The room is very comfortable, and the facility is well labeled and easy to navigate. It's been a very easy stay.
- Scott (4/5): - The listing did not make it clear there was a shared bathroom. It is less of a hotel and more of a B&B. The only active business in silver plume is a cannabis dispenser right next door
- Mia (10/5): Welcoming, historic hotel minutes from ski mountains. - Unique experience in an historic hotel located in a small and conveniently located town - less than 30min drive to A Basin. Gluten free breakfast options, clean space, friendly owner. No complaints about the hotel. The small town itself has no dinner options, which the owner was up front about. Quick drive to food in the neighboring town.
- Ben (10/5): - Quaint hotel and rooms. Definitely showed it's age. Walls are thin so definitely made use of the fan to drown out the noisy neighbor. Odd setup for the bathroom but kind of expected for this old of a hotel.
Nice, quiet lil town.
- Klaus (10/5): - Very unique and friendly manger, made you feel at home.
- Terrance (10/5): Great place! - Truly a delightful stay
- Blaine (10/5): - If you want authentic mining town atmosphere with a true mining town hotel? This is the place to stay at. It's a back to the future setting. My wife and I loved the place. It was great to be part of the not so run-of-the-mill hotel.
- Kay (10/5): - Reminiscent of my Grandparents home. I ♥️ the uniqueness. The hotel has a serious tilt, things shake and the floor boards squeak when you walk, but it’s very cool! And, the host has made it very homey. I do wish someone had been there to explain the characteristics of the hotel. I haven’t seen or heard anyone, maybe they’ll appear as ghosts tonight 😂
- Albert (10/5): - Such a great experience. They were super accomodating with easy check in late night. Check out was simple and easy and the hotel was fantastic. such charm and history! Cant wait to come back!
- Brandon (10/5): - The host was awesome and the energy was amazing and quiet and peaceful while staying in a beautiful historic property that has kept its authenticity.
- Amber (2/5): - One, the front door code hasn't been changed in a long time per others.
Two, no locks on thin paned windows.
Three, room door could be broken into easily.
Three, no screens on windows.
Four, The floors are terribly uneven and sqeaky.
Five, No air conditioning.
Six, I could here everything.
Seven, there's no tv.
I could go on.
I was here to hike Grays and Torreys the next morning, but got about an hour of sleep. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
- Jessica (10/5): Lovely stay - The floors are very creaky, if you are a light sleeper take that into consideration. But lovely place! Very cool vibe.
- Courtney (8/5): - Loved everything about this historic hotel. It’s not your typical hotel experience but as long as you expect that it’s a cool place to stay. Lots of cool old houses if you walk around town. I would book direct if you want to stay here - apparently there is an extra fee for Expedia bookings that I did not realize was not already included in the price’s fees until after my booking was complete. Overall paid $20 extra a night after multiple fees from this and normal taxes etc which made what a thought was a great deal more in line with the average prices of other nearby chain hotels.
- Thor (8/5): Good Value Hotel! - Good value hotel. I like feeling like in old west when I stayed there.
- Chris (8/5): - If you’re looking for a posh, 5-star hotel, this is not that. It’s old and quirky. Everything is creaky and out of square. You park at the pot dispensary next door. You share a hallway bathroom with 6-7 other rooms. There’s no check-in counter. There are no restaurants in town (have to drive to Georgetown)
But if none of these are show-stoppers for you, the Windsor is pretty cool. Every question I had was answered almost instantly via text. There were fresh breakfast burritos and coffee awaiting every morning. The rooms were clean and functional. The bathroom was clean and well stocked with what you might need. The owner was friendly and helpful, the couple times we crossed paths. There were extra blankets, slippers, and other amenities available for you to use during your stay. The town is super cute, and there’s a cool trail up into the hills overlooking the town a couple blocks from the hotel. A couple friendly neighborhood dogs would greet me when a came and left.
It’s not for everyone, but if it’s for you, I imagine you’ll love it.
- Matthew (2/5): - Had to find another place stay - wife did not feel safe as the padlock didn’t line up with the door sill and there were cracks in the wall, ceiling. There is a difference between “historic” and “I feel like I’m going to be murdered, this is so dilapidated”
- Verified traveler (4/5): Quaint, but NOT quiet - While the hotel does have a certain charm, that charm ended at 2am on the first night of our stay. When the third floor denizens returned home at a late hour, we could hear every step they took, every word they uttered, and every squeak of the floorboards. It kept us up for over an an hour that night, and then again at 10pm on Sunday. Ultimately, a hotel is a place to sleep, and we had to buy ear plugs to try to get rest, though even that did not work.
Otherwise, the amenities were fine, though one toilet for 6 rooms is a bit of a stretch. The coffee and breakfast was quite good though.
Lastly, our room was not clean. We found a piece of plastic in the shag rug that must have been from a prior occupant, but when we lifted the bedskirt to look for a sock when leaving, I was horrified at what I could see underneath.
- kurtis (8/5): - The Historic Windsor was a little more historic than I was expecting, but it was a fun adventure. It is an old building and as such has lots of creaky stairs and floors with a bit of settling. It reminded me of my grandparents' house in many ways, which was from the same era. The bathroom facilities were shared, with a water closet (toilet) in one room and the sink and tub/shower in an adjacent room. They did have hand sanitizer available, but washing hands could be delayed if someone is taking a shower. The rooms are small by today's standard, but were what you would expect from the time when the hotel was built. If you are looking for someplace that has an historic feel to it, The Historic Windsor certainly delivered. It was fun meeting other travelers, too. There was a common area and front porch and balcony, so if you like meeting new people it also was great for that. You do hear the floors creaking as others move about, but it wasn't too loud. We stayed in the Fall and the room was warm. It has a baseboard heater with individual controls for the room, though I suspect there is not a lot of insulation so not sure if it would be terribly warm in the coldest part of winter, but it was more than sufficient for us when it got down to freezing at night. Overall it was a fun stay.
- Thomas (2/5): - Everything. Way overrated. Makes the rating system a joke and needs to be corrected. I DID NOT STAY and should receive a full refund.
- Linda (4/5): - Not what we expected. Neighborhood not good. Unleashed dogs in front of house.
- Angela (8/5): - Charming old BnB!
- Andy (2/5): - No breadfast provided. My credit card was charged double the amount for one night staying
- John (2/5): - I have traveled for a living 16 years and this was the worst hotel ive ever come across. We left within 10 minutes of being on the property, stairs may cave in if you go upstairs FYI. Stay away from the "manslaughter inn" We didnt even request a refund, just left lol
- kelly (10/5): - so cool to stay in a place peoples have been staying for so many years
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A cute, cozy, and enchanting place! Im so glad i came across this hotel! Lots of history and super comfy with a nice rooftop deck and comfortable breakfast lounge. The owner makes the best food! Theres also a bath which was very nice after days of traveling!
- Emma (8/5): - Despite the hotel being old (with old building issues), it was very clean. It has a certain charm that is hard to describe. The town is very quiet during the week. The food provided at breakfast was very good. Quiches and breakfast burritos. Filtered water, coffee and tea were always available. The interesting part was that in the whole hotel, there was one bathroom and one shower for people to share. Wasn’t really an issue during my stay, however, it could be if there were more people. Limited to no dining options in silver plume. Easy check in and check out. The rooms have multiple locks that work. Don’t let the stairs deter you from staying a night or two.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not worth it...place is falling apart. - Disappointed. Wouldn't go back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Windsor is quaint, cozy, and full of Colorado history. It's the perfect antidote to homogeneous chain hotels.
- Chaela (10/5): - Great service... very clean. I loved the fact it was so homey and best of all they kept up with the history of the place
- Hans (2/5): - nobody was meeting us when we came.
we called the posted phone number and an unfriendly woman told us that she had to look after 3 kids and 5 properties and how it was an imposition to ask her to meetus. She did not know our room number "because her wifi was down" and told us to look on the internet ourselves. We asked bout breakfast and were told that it is provided only for rooms over 130.- (ours was 127.-)
"Breakfast" BTW consists of some wrapped food in the fridge, to be microwaved by the guest.
- karen (4/5): - there were additional charges added after checking out.
- Sheldon (10/5): - Windsor Hotel is not modern its a time capsule of years gone by. Art works adorn the property; the rooms are quint and the beds are so very comfortable. The floors & stairs they creak and moan...
Homemade meals plus desserts are awesome especially the Scottish Short bread with a pinch of dandelion to add another level of flavor.
Water closet is a must see with Lion Claw tub with all the features of yesteryear; just note its a wee high to step in.
Lauren the owner is doing an awesome job maintaining hotel with her two dogs and a very very friendly kat.....
- Lyn (10/5): - Loved the uniqueness of this property. I had read up about this property, so I knew it would be an old boarding house with all the issues that come that. But was safe, well kept and clean. Owner did a great job making us feel at home
- Richard (4/5): - I'm from Chicago. We encountered a drugged out guy in a metal studded black leather jacket as soon as we came in front of the Hotel. He was SO drugged out or drunk (or something) that he could not stand to move out of the street leading into Silver Plume. Shades of Steven King? Then, we thought it prudent to get our baggage into one of the smallest rooms with a double bed I've ever stayed in. Then, the overwhelming smell of diesel fuel which forced us to vacate the premises without staying the night.
- James (10/5): - I have a thing for old Victorian hotels with minimal amenities and the muffins were terrific.
- Eleanor (8/5): - Nice location Loveland Ski resort.
The heating in lounge area needs to be improved.
Owner was very nice and helpful. Food was great.
- Patricia (8/5): - This place is cozy and cute. The pillows are super plush and the sheets are clean. I don't care that the shower and toilet are shared, but there is no fixing that. I don't see towels...and the wall from the parking lot to the building is potentially treacherous with oacked snow/ice.
- Joshua (10/5): Over priced - Very clean but be wary of the price. It is advertised you can get a room for $174. That is false. You’re going to be paying $200
- KATRINA (10/5): Awesome Bed and Breakfast - Excellent host at this lovely historic Bed and Breakfast. Great community feel.
- Ricardo (4/5): - Steps in third floor are unsafe. Seemed confusing-no front desk staff__ bedding comforters very dated.
- Philip (10/5): - I enjoyed my one night stay here. I arrived late in the evening (11 PM) and checked out around 8:30 AM to drive to Winter Park so didn't have as much time to enjoy it or the town. The room was charming and had plenty of blankets to stay warm at night. The wifi was reliable and having the complimentary quiche and cup of coffee was nice to start the day. The website has more information about the history of this building if you are curious.
- Lydia (6/5): - It's a very old place, which gives it a lot of It's charm, but structurally it could use some work. It was clean and comfortable, which redeemed some of the asthetic and structural issues.
I was not provided entrance instructions, which made checking in a challenge, but I don't know if that was miscommunication on Expedia's or the property's part.
- Wendy (8/5): - Unique, old, haunted hotel in the middle of a whole lot of nature.
- Lorayne (10/5): - I love old historic buildings, and the Windsor Hotel did not disappoint! It's very quaint and cozy. Right after I checked in I was greeted with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked pumpkin muffins, from a fresh pumpkin, and they were delicious!
I brought my dog, and she had fun playing with Lauren's dogs Jazzy and Lucky. Ask Lauren to tell you the stories about Lucky! He really is lucky!
My room was very comfortable and just what I needed to crash at after a long day of driving and hiking. I slept like a log that night! There was also homemade breakfast burritos and small quiches in the fridge for breakfast!
If I'm ever back up that way, I would stay there again.
- David (8/5): - This is an old building, dating back to the 1800's, kept in good condition.
Not high end, has a communal bathroom for the guests, but was not expensive and unique enough to be worth the price.
Silver Plume is a great starting point if you like hiking or bike riding in the mountains.
Not much in the way of food options in town but several options in Georgetown 2.7 miles away.
- david (6/5): - Very unique and fun place to stay the exterior porches could’ve been cleaner
- Linda (4/5): - This is NOT a hotel. It was a very small room in an old house with a shared bathroom down the hall.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The building is charming, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and my experience there was excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location was cool.
- Douglas (10/5): Great place. - Amazing. Lauren the owner took good care of us all. The place is a unique historic hotel and fun to stay at. It is located in a quaint mountain town near things to do for all interests.
- Ty (2/5): Community living not for me - No screen on the windows on upper floor. Another guest vomited all over bathroom. Just wasn’t what I expected.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love this old house and area. We made ourselves at home immediately. We went for a walk in the area and all the neighbors we met were very friendly. Thank you!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Run down and you could hear every noise from other people in the building. Every time someone used the community toilet it sounded like someone was barging into the room. A bit expensive for the accommodations provided, but glad for the bed.
- Isabel (6/5): - Very small rooms and they didnt stock their breakfast
- Charles (2/5): This hotel is not safe!!! - This hotel is not safe.
Room 6 has two locks. One is a slide bolt lock that slides into a piece of wood with only 1/8 inch to the edge. The other lock is a deadbolt which was loose with very small screws. At midnight, one of the employees tried to turn the door knob and enter our room three times within 5 minutes. Since the room was not safe and we were afraid of falling asleep for fear that the employee would return later on and break through the locks and enter the room, we packed up and went to a different hotel and nearby town. When the hotels.com representative spoke to the manager of the property, the hotels.com representative stated that the manager was rude, uncooperative and arrogant.
This hotel is not safe and I highly recommend that no one ever stays at this hotel!
