Guest Reviews
- Karen (10/5): - Perfect
- Maria (2/5): - The hotel was in an isolated area within a former military base. The closest restaurant was a 30-minute walk. The room had no microwave, no refrigerator, no coffee so I had to pay extra for breakfast everyday. And every day for 12 days I had same limited menu for breakfast. I ended up renting a car as it was cheaper than the taxi to the town. The bed was the most uncomfortable and painful thing in the room as my queen bed was in fact two hard twin mattresses held together by a queen sheet. That made the bed unsupported in the middle and therefore, I ended with poor sleep and back pain. I could have complain and request another room, but I did not want to start my vacation being upset and I just focused on my trip. A mistake that I regretted.
This hotel is not equipped for specific individuals with physical limitations as had no elevator and the bathtub was about 2.5 feet high from the bathroom floor; not so good if you have hip mobility limitations.
I learned from my mistakes and next time I will make a better hotel choice.
- Rainbow Ann (8/5): - Clean, warm, and comfortable bed. The shower is deep/hard to get into and slippery. I recommend a no slip mat inside the shower for added safety.
- Erin (8/5): - Great airport hotel. Only complaint is that our glass doors on the shower wouldn't close no matter how hard we tried.
- Tyler (10/5): - Appreciated the staff at this hotel, they were very happy to help with anything needed!
- Pornput (8/5): - Amenities were poorly.
- Darwin (8/5): - The hotel is very nice.
- Morteza (4/5): - .
- Colin Andrew (10/5): - Excellent Friendly service and convenient for the airport and the quaint little town of Keflavík. Also only 30 minute drive to Reykjavík.
- Paul (10/5): - What we didnt like was, without transport you couldnt get a meal. But we did have the snacks and pot nooldes behind the bar. Place was great, bed was well comfy rooms are spacious and clean no complaints, hot showers and staff extremely helpful and friendly, whats not to love.
- Lisa (10/5): - ....nice, bigroom, great hot tub, and nice variety for breakfast
- Carol (8/5): - The staff were very helpful!
- Karen (8/5): - Nice bar on the property, and it's only a 10-minute drive to KEF. The morning breakfast is good. Service was very friendly and helpful.
- Imtiaz (10/5): - Extra friendly staff, willing to go the extra mile
- Amnon (6/5): - Only advantage: location. We crashed there for a few hours sleep
- Shannon (10/5): - What a great stay! The Eldey hotel was charming, and the staff were helpful and nice! The room was clean and perfect for our trip. Quiet neighborhood.
- Bashar (10/5): - Nice property, elegant, and very clean.
- Deon (8/5): - Name deceit. Says "airport" but not walking distance.
- DICK (4/5): - Prepaid for a night's stay that included free breakfast and was told my reservation did not include it. Haven't disputed it yet because I couldn't find the reservation at 12:30AM when I checked in.
- SATYAJEET (8/5): - Close to the airport
- Muddassir (8/5): - This is a converted air base. The rooms are large and clean. It feels like it was built in the 1980's. The beds and TV were oddly placed. It is convenient to get to the airport but it still takes 15 minutes. There are no walkable restaurants in this area. I would stay here again.
- AL-HARETH (10/5): - Very convenient to the hotel. Spacious family room. Clean room with very efficient housekeeping. Cosy reception. Free and convenient car parking.
- Harvey (10/5): - Great front desk staff!!
- David (10/5): - The staff was excellent. We had a flight issue to deal with and having a north american phone, we were having trouble calling our airline. The gentleman at the front desk went above and beyond to help us make the phone call from a hotel phone and do whatever he could to assist us. This made a frustrating situation much less stressful. We can't say enough good things about our stay here.
- Tim (4/5): - Had to wait one hour to check in
- Carol (10/5): - Loved hot tub
- Steve (10/5): - The lady at the front desk, Gitta, went out of her way to accommodate us. She even provided us with a take-out breakfast, since we were leaving before the breakfast started. We would definitely recommend the Eldey Hotel.
- Kacie (8/5): - Overall, a perfect spot for a one night stay before or after your flight.
- Roland (10/5): A lovely place to stay - We arrived at 1am and the receptionist was very helpful. Delicious breakfast
- Barrent (10/5): - Great staff, clean and comfortable room, working hotel and sauna, and a hotel bar. Easy access to the KEF Airport.
- Kayla Fay (8/5): - The staff was so friendly and accommodating! It was a very quiet hotel. Because it's so close to the airport, it is a bit far from most tourism locations, but the staff helped order taxis and there is a bus stop about 15 minutes away by foot.
- Christine (10/5): - Very friendly staff, the hotel has nice decorations with interesting historical photos and books about Iceland. Great for a stay near airport to catch international flights.
- Bobby (10/5): Repeat visitor - Always like it here. Clean comfortable room with a bath tub! Great breakfast. Sauna broken and hot tub can't be used during a storm but still enjoyed my stay. Like that there's a microwave and tea/coffee all day. Staff are always kind and friendly.
- Ian (8/5): Pre flight stay at Eldey Airport Hotel - Stop off before the airport. Ok hotel for the price and number of stars. Overall could do with an update but served the purpose.
- Andrew (10/5): - 2nd time i have stayed at Eldey airport hotel for my trips to Iceland staff are always helpful and friendly and despite being close to the airport it is quiet
- Rosalind (10/5): - Staff were extra friendly and helpful. Lots of storage space. Very clean room
- Linda Charlotte (10/5): - Clean hotel, super close to the airport. Front desk staff was fantastic!
- Rachel (8/5): Ok - Good location. Room wasn’t very clean: spots on counter, floor not swept well, and two liter bottle of coke left on counter from previous guest.
- Anders (8/5): - The late night lady at check in was extra helpful.
Rooms are good
- Kosta Nikolov (10/5): - The room was spacious, close to the airport, nice hot tub.
- Joshua (10/5): - Large room/ super close to the airport/ booked my taxi and told me to pay 29000dollars while the taxi man tried to charge me 40000 I told him the hotel booked it and he instantly lowered the price/ wonderful stay and would stay again if I had an early flight.
- Verified traveler (8/5): will stay again if need to be in the area - The room was bigger than expected, great location close to the airport and the volcano. quiet. friendly staff.
Only negative and quite an important one, the mattress was overused had lumps and overall needs replacement.
Breakfast was nice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful, conveniently close to the airport (a couple of miles away), it was a perfect spot for me to prepare fir my morning departure.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is 10 min drive from Keflavík airport
- Sivendiran (10/5): - Great
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very close to airport
- Steven (8/5): Not three star Hotel - Spartan accommodations, no breakfast and room only had hand soap in bottle that would not pump out. Spa was not working and hot tub was not very hot and dirt was on the tub bottom. TV was a small computer monitor that did work well. However, excellent location near airport, less than ten
Minute drive. Not a standard three star hotel.
- JOSH (6/5): Satisfactory, but... - I'm not sure about others without a vehicle, but $66 to go from the airport (where my tour bus left me) to the hotel and back in the morning really was a surprise, especially for only going 1.1 miles each way. There was no food, except for the breakfast takeaway they scheduled for the time I left. I'm pretty sure the airport won't let you bring in food, so I didn't accept it. Maybe I'm strange, but, there was no phone in my room. Not that I needed it, because they don't offer anything. For the added money, I could've stayed MUCH closer to the airport with a room with a coffee maker.
- Sarah (10/5): - Great one night stay near airport. Room is exactly as pictured so glad to know you got what you booked. Lovely staff; very helpful.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not what it says it is. - Don't be fooled by the name: the hotel is next to the airport but on the other side of the runway, in a former American military airbase at some 6 km from the terminal. It has NO shuttle service, which is rather remarkable for a hotel in such a location.
When I arrived, I needed three things: dinner, some rest and to book a taxi for the next morning. Dinner was not available at the hotel, not even a snack. So I asked the recpetionist to call me a taxi. After a few minutes, I gave up and decided to walk 1,2 km in the wind and rain to the nearest restaurant, a dark and sad fast-food place.
Back from my culinary experience, an hour later, the receptionist still hadn't managed to book a taxi for the following morning. She had to do the same for a number of customers too!
Meanwhile, having to wake up at 4,30, I needed to go to bed but I couldn't do it because of the uncertainty about the passage to the airport. Luckily for me, I remembered I had a taxi driver's number in my phone and he agreed to pick me up. Breakfast (which I had paid for as an extra) was an apple, some local yoghurt called skyr, a cheese sandwich and a little carton of orange juice. Coffe could be had upstairs from a dispenser. Beautiful.
Finally, there is NO elevator: you must cart your luggage up the stairs. I presume that is en lieu of a gym? Of the bathroom and of the view I enclose photographs. Judge for yourselves.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I liked this hotel a lot. Close to the airport and easy to get to from the main road. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a bag as no buffet at the moment which was fine. Enjoyed the sauna and hot tub. Had a good night's sleep and didn't hear any airport noise.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was so kind and helped us figure out our best transport options for getting into Reykjavik. They even got us a special rate - couldn’t have been more helpful! Hotel itself was very comfortable and quiet (no plane noise).
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Fine for airport stay, friendly staff, large family room
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Although the building itself is old, it is clean and the staff was great! They were very accommodating and moved us to the first floor after learning my husband could not climb stairs.
- Kenyaliz (10/5): Quiet setting for a good night’s rest - Very friendly and welcoming staff. Quiet and peaceful setting, very comfy beds. Great for a short stay to or from the airport.
- Joanna (10/5): Would recommend! - The hotel was close to the airport so really convenient for our trip, the room was large and comfortable, breakfast was provided in the morning with a wide selection of food available including freshly cooked eggs, the staff were super helpful and available all day!
- Jon (10/5): - Nice little place, great for the price. Not a lot to eat, good free breakfast though.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Absolutely amazing hotel. Extremely friendly staff and the rooms are huge! They got the rooms ready for the number of people we had with robes, extra pillows and blankets. The spa was such a nice touch. Cute patio with a clean hot tub and sauna. Great breakfast and lounge. Great hotel close to the airport for a great price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - As far as airport hotels go, this one is very quiet in that you hardly can hear any planes flying over head. It is about 10 minutes from the airport. The hotel is very clean and nicely appointed. There is a happy hour from 4 pm to 7 pm. Breakfast was in included. There is an outdoor hot tub to soak in. A nice touch. I would recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Small but all necessities are available and the room design are very functional.
- Adrianos (6/5): - Like most of Iceland there are no consistency with basic amenities (soap, shampoo, hair dryer...). Bed was mediocre and one tiny pillow. The tv was the size of a basic laptop and 15 feet away. The neighborhood is kind of sketchy. The area looks like a cross between inner city government housing and military barracks buildings. I would only stay here in the future if nothing else was available.
- Martha (8/5): - Basic property, nothing fancy. Room was clean, beds were comfortable, breakfast was average. Staff was not friendly but not rude. Important to note: if you want the free shuttle, you have to book it at least two hours ahead of departure and the driver gives you one minute leeway, no more. If you miss it, you have to wait two hours or pay $20 cab fare to the airport.
- Elaine (8/5): - I liked the early 5 a.m. availability of having the free breakfast. When taking early flight this is great.
I liked the free shuttle to the airport. The staff was great with our silly questions about how to turn the shower on and how to operate the tv remotes. They even let us check in early which was great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was helpful with recommendations and getting taxi. Room was comfortable and clean and quiet
- Verified traveler (8/5): Room-1 night to KEF. No other reason to stay. - We stayed one night just to be close to the airport. No other reason to stay here. In the middle of no where with nothing near. Ugly surroundings. No elevator to transport luggage. The room is clean and decently comfortable. Bathroom clean. We checked in late. Place is dated. Breakfast was very poor. At 7:40am most everything was already out. Asked multiple times if eggs or yogurt were going to be refilled and the gal tending just said in 5 mins. At 8am only sliced sandwich bread was refilled so I left. No eggs or yogurt. 20 mins to replenish and nothing done. Nor did they really care. No real service at this place. Not a good place to tour or sightsee from.
- Paul (2/5): - Very disappointed that the shower did not work in our room. The shuttle was over booked and we had to take an expensive taxi to the airport. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff was wonderful and very helpful. I did not like how it was not within walking distance of multiple restaurants.
- Min (10/5): - Nice and clean room. Good breakfast. It is perfect place to stay for a night before departure.
- kim (8/5): - The hotel was fine. Clean. Not a lot around it but it was fine for our two night stay in the area.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - With a name like Eldey Airport Hotel, I assumed this hotel would be close to the airport. It is not. It is about a five mile walk on a highway to get from one to the other. There is a bus, but it comes infrequently and costs around $15. The hotel offers a shuttle, but it was apparently only for “arrivals and departures” so we could not take it to drop off our rental car at the airport the evening before an early morning flight. The front desk receptionist was rude and more interested in cuddling with his girlfriend on a couch in the lobby than helping us. Further, our room smelled like someone had just used the bathroom. It was cheaper than other hotels around, but not worth the savings.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is near the airport and it is near the car rental office. Although it is near the airport, it was quiet. The decorations especially pictures on the walls were very beautiful. The breakfast was so so; not bad but also nothing good to say about it.
- K (8/5): - The staff were very friendly & helpful. Breakfast was not very good.
- Reema (6/5): does the job - Staying here did the job as to supply me with shelter overnight before my flight, there were only industrial surroundings, so even if I wanted to go out and grab a bite to eat, nothing nearby, not sure if there was a restaurant in the hotel, clean beds, little run down but I guess for a quick simple sleep before a flight it worked
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Front office staff were personal and friendly and helpful. They prepared box lunch because we left before breakfast hours.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It is close to the Airport and return transport provided. Unfortunately there are no restaurant facilities and the only place locally to eat appears to be a "Fast food" Pizza house some 15 minutes Windy walk away. Transport to the Airport was provided.
- SUSAN (10/5): Highly recommended - We loved the decor in the hotel. Pictures of the island and historical photos.
- Gary (8/5): Conveniently close to KEF - When I made my reservation, I just wanted to be close to KEF. I paid no attention to the details about the hotel. I was surprised that it looked like a barracks. But then I remembered that KEF used to be home to Naval Air Station KEF. It was fun then walking around the area and seeing so many repurposed building that looked so familiar, along with the otherwise unexpected basketball courts and golf course. Since I group up on USAF bases, if felt almost homey.
The hotel itself was nice enough, even if the exterior is unappealing and the views are, well, dismal. After being immersed in the beauty of Iceland, Eldey is pretty stark. But with that said, it is clean and comfy. My room was well outfitted. No complaints at all. There is a bar as well as a nice hot tub and sauna.
Finding a place to eat is another matter. There are restaurants in the area, but they are overpriced and pretty ordinary. I ended up walking (about 30 min each way) to an Orkan for Sbarro pizza. Yum, right?
I would likely make another choice in the future, perhaps Reykjavik again, but it should be noted that it took no more than 10 minutes from the time I left Eldey to the point I was returning my car. Depending on one's schedule and other factors, that's awfully convenient.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to Blue Lagoon and airport. Very friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was great. The breakfast was awesome, and the location is near a bus stop.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Basic and clean airport hotel less than 4 miles to front door of KEF. Gas station en route for rental car fill up. Breakfast bar starts early at 5:30 for early flyers but is minimal. No bacon or eggs. Friendly staff may overestimate time needed to leave for your flight.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, quiet and close to the airport.
Be sure to book your spot with the shuttle to get to the airport when you check in. I don’t know how or if the free shuttle works FROM the airport to the hotel. It would be worth a call/email. We thought the taxi would be much because it was so close but it was around $40. No fault of the hotel of course.
- rossyto21 (6/5): - It is a very basic hotel. They didn't include coffee in the room, just a couple of tea bags. They were super unpolite with us. We arrived late and hungry and they asked us to leave the bar area even though we had purchased a beer from them. In any case, even the breakfast (included) was very basic.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to the airport and a lot amenities. The family room was comfortable for 4.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean room near airport ideal for families . Breakfast area allows to use microwave
- Richard (10/5): - The staff were overwhelmingly friendly and helpful. There is also a car rental business on site allowing for a very easy setup and quick check-out. The rooms are clean and quiet. I had traveled 11 days all over Ireland and came to Iceland for a slower pace rest and was delighted to have the best sleep of my journey.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This hotel is located right near to the airport, and we stayed there the day before flying out. It wasn’t too noticeable with the planes nearby - I feared sleeping might be an issue, but it wasn’t. There is parking, a hot tub, a good breakfast provided, and there is a concierge available to arrange activities (though we didn’t use it). Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable.
One other note - there is an airport shuttle available, but be sure to call ahead and book it. We did so, and were told to arrange it when we arrived, but when we did, the shuttle was full for all the times near our departure. So we had to book a cab (at our own expense). Luckily, the amazing staff in the morning were able to speak to the shuttle driver and he did an extra airport run to fit us in. A huge thanks to the staff who were incredibly helpful!
We would absolutely stay here again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property is an old USAF base hotel. The hotel has a bar, pleasant enough. no dinning options on site, the only dining option is some pizza place; was the worst food we had along our entire trip.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This Hotel was only 3.7k from Keflavik airport, does not have a restaurant and is not near any shops. It is quiet from any airport noise but a noisy group leaving for a very early flight can be disturbing. It is very clean with nice big rooms but does not have a lift. If one does not have a car or travel in a group, the cost of a taxi in Iceland is extremely expensive and adds significantly to the cost despite the closeness to the airport.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Staff excellent. Amenities lacking. Room was so hot. No fans or cool air system. Location terrible if you wanted lunch or dinner as no restaurant on premises or nearby. Small bathrooms. No nightstands. At least free shuttle to airport if you book it day you arrive.
- carol s (8/5): Nice but chilly - The hotel room was exactly like the photos. Nothing close to the hotel. Hotel was very nice but the front desk, upon checking out was a little “cold”.
- allan (10/5): Airport hotel - Breakfast buffet was mediocre.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This hotel is close to the airport and therefore very convenient. They also provided a free shuttle for us back to the airport which was very nice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved the fact that it was comfy and close to the airport.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Easy for coming and sleep, close to the airport by free shuttle
- Kristine/James (10/5): Superb! - Bed was very comfortable. The hotel is close to the airport. You have to rent a car for you to explore iceland. Breakfast is the same everyday. The customer service is excellent! Will stay here again when i go back to iceland.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel was clean and nice with a good free breakfast. Our room was big with two rooms. The beds were very comfortable. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Efficient and friendly check in, clean room, comfortable bed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved how close this hotel was to the airport. It’s too bad they don’t have a restaurant though because the closest one is a pizza place that took me about 17 minutes to walk to. Would be a quick drive if you had a rental car or felt like paying for a taxi. My room was really clean which was great, but I didn’t have a fridge which was disappointing since I had brought back leftover pizza with me, but had no where to keep it cold. The hotel receptionist was very accommodating and allowed for late checkout since I didn’t need to be at the airport until 2pm. Breakfast was ok. I got there towards the end of it so most things were picked over, but I’m sure it would have been fine had I gone early. Overall I enjoyed my stay and it was a convenient place to stay for one night between my flights. Just wished there had been a hotel restaurant.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Eldey is nice hotel is stay at. It's very very clean and full of interesting historical pictures. I wished curtains were black out curtains for the 24/7 day light that we experienced. Breakfast way above average. I enjoyed it. Be aware that there are no elevators so you have to take your luggage to the second floor (no problem for us big guys). Closest restaurant was half mile away. That's fine if the weather is ok if you have to walk. There was also a free airport shuttle ride. Be sure you contact Eldey ahead of time to schedule a shuttle ride. I would recommend this nice hotel to others.
