Guest Reviews
- Reuben (10/5): - We enjoyed the view.
- 442shelliej (10/5): Perfect Seaside Vacation - I recently took my mom to pony swim week in Chincoteague – it was the only thing on her bucket list. We stayed at Snug Harbor Marina and Hotel and had the time of our lives. What made it such a great experience was the owner Basia, her husband john, and Maria. They were so friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. The room was quaint and very clean, it had all the amenities we needed. The fact that we were 25 feet from the water made it even more special. Captain John gave us the greatest boat tour. His local knowledge far surpassed anything you can read about Chincoteague. His family had been there for generations and knew the true history of the town. We would have loved to sit longer with him and just chat about the island and its history. All three of them were a wealth of knowledge. The location was incredible, with clear views of the lighthouse and the ponies on Assateague. My mom was afraid to get in the kayak but with Basia’s gentle coaching, my mom exceled! We enjoyed every activity but even our downtime was so enjoyable at Snug, we truly didn’t want to leave. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
- donald (6/5): - The location of the cabin on the water with perfect. Cabin itself didn't meet our expectations.. two bedroom cabin was a little bit tough to stay cool. had one window unit air conditioner and a fan that had to be ran all the time.. we had a propane stove noticed the cabin did not have a fire or carbon monoxide detector inside there was a place on the ceiling that there was one once upon a Time. I would think having one installed would be a factor of running a business..
- Global42508975021 (10/5): Stunning views, cozy beachside bungalows, and the best guides on the island! - You won't find better people, accommodations, or extra opportunities anywhere other than Snug Harbor! This is a small family-owned business that has been in operation for three generations, offering visitors to Chincoteague the most stunning views of the Assateague channel and lighthouse from every one of their beachside bungalows. The owners are some of the kindest, most welcoming people we have ever met. In addition to the Snug Harbor lodging (which is clean, comfortable, and adorable), Captain John, provides guided boat tours (we personally saw ponies, dolphins, and tons of sea birds on ours), and his wife, Basia, provides tours by kayak - these tours are *highly recommended*!
Honestly, our week here was AMAZING, and there was not one complaint to be had... we can't speak highly enough of our time spent at Snug Harbor, and we will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Chincoteague!
- 661charleenl (10/5): Making memories and friends with our family at the Snug Harbor Marina and Hotel - It is always a great time staying at the Snug Harbor Hotel and Marina. This was our 5th stay with John and Basia since 2019. We love everything about the Chincoteague and Assateague islands. John's boat tour is one you shouldn't miss. This was the 5th time we took the tour. You always see or learn something new. This year we brought our 2 daughters, their husbands and our 3 grandchildren. It was a very special time together and for our family to meet John and Basia who by now are part of our extended family was very special. We are looking forward to visiting them again soon. If you are looking for a great place to visit on your next vacation this is the where you should go to create memories and friendships you will treasure for a lifetime.
- Explore35825481965 (10/5): An absolute gem in Chincoteague! - Snug Harbor is such a gem! We stayed as a couple four years ago and brought our two young boys back for a family vacation over the 4th of July. It’s such a peaceful spot, yet just minutes away from restaurants, activities, and the beach. If you can rent the two bedroom waterfront cottage, it’s hands down the best spot! We really enjoyed renting kayaks and our private boat tour at sunset! Everyone is so friendly and accommodating. We can’t wait to come back again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Peaceful quiet cottages on the water. Pet friendly. Kayaking and boat tours were both amazing and we saw lots of wild ponies. Family owned property
- Amy M (10/5): - Great Location. Had everything we needed! You get what you pay for. Great place!
- Shannon (10/5): - We had a great time during our stay in this marina cabin. The marshland and dock at sunset were a perfect place to find a little peace.
- tomhX7419XA (10/5): Snug Harbor is the best hotel on Chincoteague island. The view and the customer service puts it in a league of its own. - Snug Harbor is the best hotel on Chincoteague island. Location, location, location! The hotel sits overlooking the National Park and most days you can look out across the channel and see the world famous Chincoteague ponies roaming in their native habitat. The waterfront cottages are cozy and very clean and the personal customer service is way above most 5 star hotels. They treat you like family not a customer which is impossible to find nowadays going to chain hotels!
- Dominika (10/5): - Super nice staff, clean and comfortable rooms. I loved it ! And the porch view- amazing! Highly recommend !
- H1001YSdavel (10/5): Dolphins and ponies, oh my! - Our boat captain was excellent! He showed us many local points of interest. He went to all the places that he knew we would see ponies and we were not disappointed. We saw a large group right on the shoreline and we were so pleased! He took us to see the dolphins as he knew where they’d be feeding as well. He had a great personality and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Snug Harbor Marina.
- A5244BOjessem (10/5): Awesome - What an awesome job our guide did!!! We would definitely do again and recommend. She gave us great history on the island and the surrounding areas. We gat a chance to see the ponies. She took pictures and send it to us. Be prepared for a workout.
- tiffanycZ9328FV (10/5): Nature paradise - Best place on Chincoteague for nature lovers. All cottages are close to the waterfront and close to the National Park! The wildlife is unbelievable. Too many birds to count and the wild ponies roaming along the marshlands. A dream come true for my kids and me too!
- Passenger35696858012 (10/5): Perfect Kayak Adventure - I had a lovely bucket list adventure with Basia! Got up and personal with the ponies, birds, and periwinkles. She was knowledgeable, I learned so much, and enjoyed her company. Highlight of my trip! They were accommodating and helpful, and those were two hours I will never forget. Thank you!
- Kate (10/5): - Very cute little suites. Loved the tiki area and we were able to hang there with some friends we traveled with. Would def. stay again!
- 661charleenl (10/5): Attention all artists, naturalists, bird watchers and fisherman! - Attention all artists, naturalists, bird watchers and fisherman the Snug Harbor Marina and Hotel has very thing you need. Fish off the pier, watch ponies from your deck and view eagles and dolphin's during your pontoon boat tour with Captain John. This is the 4th time we have stayed at Snug Harbor and we can't wait come back next year!
- D76XCcathyc (10/5): Paradise at it's Best - Looking for "Paradise" close to home? Look no further! Snug Harbor has everything the family needs to enjoy themselves. Kayaking, fishing, crabbing, relaxation, awesome boat tours with Capt. John and much more. My husband and I found Snug Harbor years ago and have made it our second home. The location right on the water is awesome! The cottages are fully furnished and very comfortable. You walk right out your door and you have scenic views of the Lighthouse across the bay along with the wild horses . You don't want to miss out on taking one of Capt. John's tours on the water. When the horses are out, he will get you as close as he can to them so you can take awesome pictures which could also include the bald eagles and many other kinds of birds. It is absolutely beautiful. The beach is only a few minutes away along with all the restaurants and shops. The owners of Snug Harbor, are constantly on the go to make sure you have what you need. We have never met anyone so kind and considerate as these two even as busy as they stay. We are very thankful to have found such a great paradise for a vacation with great owners as well. If we could give this a rating of more than excellent, we sure would. So do your family a favor and hurry and book your vacation. Snug Harbor Marina is awesome!
- bmelton (10/5): Great place for a family gathering - This a great place for a family get-together! We stayed in a 2-bedroom cabin along with our son and daughter-in-law and their dog. There was plenty of room with a dining area/ living room, and adjoining kitchen, plus a large wooden deck facing the bay. The accommodations were clean and well-maintained. Snug Harbor is away from touristy Maddox Street, but there is a nice restaurant open early and late just a block away. You can rent a kayak, take a guided tour, relax on the deck, or take the short drive to Assateague National Seashore. Bring your binoculars to watch ponies and dolphins from the deck! With a short drive or bicycle trip you will find any number of local restaurants, ice cream parlors, bakeries and donut shops. The offerings from the abundant food trailers in the community are outstanding. And then there is Ricky's Seafood and Produce just a short drive away. This is a great place place to stay and owners John and Basia are great hosts.
- Deborah (8/5): - The property was very quaint. Owners friendly. Cottage needed an extra tv in the living room.
- 661charleenl (10/5): Wild ponies, eagles, oyster crackers, pelicans... a piece of Eden to behold. - It is always a great time staying at the Snug Harbor Hotel and Marina. John and Basia are perfect hosts, friendly and accommodating. This was our third stay with them since 2019 and my wife and I are looking forward to returning this September. We love everything about the Chincoteague and Assateague islands. John's boat tour is one you shouldn't miss and an unique experience each time. He takes you up close to the lighthouse, ponies and dozens of different birds and he tells the stories, history and folklore of the area. While staying at Snug Harbor you also have access to scenic views, excellent restaurants and Assateague National Park and its beaches.
- sarahgB334KV (10/5): Great experience! - If you are considering a kayak or boat tour with Assateague Tours - I highly recommend this company! Basia took my friend and I out kayaking and she provided the perfect mix of conversation and knowledge about the islands and the ponies.
While there are no guarantees to see the ponies, we took Basia’s recommendation to go out during high hide and we lucked out with the most beautiful close up views of wild ponies. We were able to pull our kayak into the marsh and just relax while the ponies wandered just twenty feet from us. In the water we were able to see turtles popping up and along the shore various birds.
Basia went above and beyond taking photos of us in our double kayaking and texting them to us at the end of the trip.
The next morning her husband took us out with a small group on the pontoon during low tide. We lucked out, still seeing the wild ponies from a distance (consider bringing binoculars!) but the boat tour was a whole different feel from kayaking.
John has been driving boats off Chincoteague Island since he was 8 years old. He is knowledgeable about the tides and took us around to view the light house, the southern tip of Chincoteague, pointed out Wallop Island, and gave us a really enjoyable tour. If it’s a cool day, consider bringing a hat or a blanket to wrap up in!
Thanks so much Basia and John for such wonderful experiences!
- Pioneer297534 (10/5): Girls trip - The Million dollar view !!! So beautiful and peaceful!
Perfect for the weekend getaway and not only that; there is so much to do there like kayaking, hiking bicycling, fishing -you name it they have it ! The Island has so much to offer :)
The place is wonderful and the owners are the best -nice , helpful and very profesional! Excellent customer service :)
The cottage was perfect!
The kitchen is a plus with the huge fridge that will fit all your food and drinks! The rooms are spacious and you can’t ask for more comfortable beds!
The patio is a great place to sit with your morning coffee -really really nice! And the horses ! Loved it !!
Definitely will be back :)
- magdalenagU1826PY (10/5): 🩵🩵🩵 - ,,,We had a great stay and lots of fun at Snug Harbor. Cottages are super clean , well maintained and have everything we needed during our stay. Perfect location like no other on the island. Beautiful view from our cottage. We could see the ponies straight from our deck the first morning we woke up❣️ So relaxing and peaceful. That was a wonderful and unforgettable experience! We will most definitely be back🩵
- Laura (10/5): - Beautiful view.
- jerseyjill85 (8/5): Perfect Location for Couples - We liked the cabins because of the LOCATION. It's quiet and the view is great. There was a sunset Cruise right from the marina dock, and we loved it. We saw the ponies up close and some dolphins playing. The cabins were dated but clean, and had a kitchen that we could use to make soup and sandwiches. No microwave and the AC had a bit of trouble cooling the room, but the breeze cooled the cabin after sunset.
With my teens, I might have stayed on the other side of Chincoteague, where you can walk for food and night life - but that side is noisier and busier.
I had a slight feeling of sketchiness from the personnel, like maybe they weren't being honest - it reminded me of the Caribbean, where every answer was calculated to make them look the best or get a tip. But overall I still give it a 4 star review.
- Kaarin (8/5): - We loved the location right on the water. We could see dolphins from the back deck! The staff was great, and we liked being able to rent boats from where we stayed. The units were clean, and the beds were so comfortable!
The wifi was essentially non-functional which was a downside. We would also have liked the second bedroom to have two twin beds instead of another queen.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!
- Paradise789292 (10/5): The PERFECT anniversary getaway - This place is magical. I'd never been to Chincoteague and wanted to go there for our wedding anniversary. The moment I pulled into the parking lot, I was overcome by its location, atmosphere, and the AMAZING owners. They were so welcoming that we felt like part of their family. The serenity and vibe are unbelievable, and the place is very well kept. It was truly a soul cleansing experience. Very relaxing, and I LOVED hearing Bob Marley playing as I sat out on the dock.
They also have kayak rentals, eco tours, boat rentals, and even a water taxi that takes you to a private beach. We did their sunset cruise, which was phenomenal and is a MUST. The owner, John, told us amazing stories about growing up in the area and the history. It is an experience I will NEVER FORGET.
If you're looking to replenish your soul and chill, you need to stay here. Thank you, John and Basha, for our wonderful weekend. You certainly made our anniversary very special, and we will be back VERY SOON!!!
- YoungAttorneyCC (10/5): Bliss! - This place is excellent for folks who want an escape from the craziness of city life and yearn for a peaceful relaxing vacation away from it all. It's truly all about what you are looking for. Is it the Ritz-New York? Well, no. But in many ways, it is much, much better. S/H provides a quiet respite, on a quiet road, on the water, with ample fishing and boating, a place to grill, and have your children run around and play. You can crab... you can see bald eagles and the ponies across the channel... and enjoy an incredible sunrise daily. Everything in town is quite literally 5-8 minutes away; Assateague Beach (which is a full-fledged, white sandy beach with lifeguards) is 10 minutes away. The island is 25 mph throughout and so quaint! But back to S/H. Basia and John are the consummate and personable hosts, along with Ms. Maria, who is your friendly housekeeper. All of them are everywhere and nowhere at the same time. They are non-intrusive, but ready and waiting to take care of whatever you might need upon request. The cottages are 1 and 2 BR. We had a 2BR (1200 sq ft) that was spotless upon our arrival. The pictures are the best description of the cottage. But I will highlight the breakfast nook with windows facing the water and the porch directly outside from the nook with two sturdy adironack chairs.. So beautiful! I also note the window AC cooled the cottage well, even in the warmest of temperatures.
We rented a canoe and kayak for the week. Having them available at our disposal, to put in whenever we wanted was such a delight. No check-in and check-out of the watercraft -- just use them. You will get a little messy at S/H -- you have to put in and take out your watercraft. Your feet will get wet! You will have to bait your own hooks and catch and clean your own fish, too. You will likely track some sand into your cottage which you will actually have to sweep up yourself. I laugh at the reviews who can't believe they actually had to lift a finger themselves here at some point. As I said, it is not the Ritz. I've stayed at a number of them as well. But as a fan of My Cousin Vinny, I will leave you with this.... what Snug Harbor provides is "every bit as sophisticated a system of hospitality and graciousness" as they provide at the Ritz - but with instant water access, a beautiful view, superb craftsmanship, on-site owners/hosts with southern hospitality and charm! If you are looking at Chincoteague -- then look no further than Snug Harbor!
- D76XCcathyc (10/5): Snug Harbor Marina is Our Paradise Away From Home! - My husband and I have been going to Snug Harbor Marina for years and wouldn't consider any other place to stay. This special paradise has so much to offer everyone of all ages. Along with it's beautiful scenery, you can rent boats, or fish and crab right off the docks. If you love go kayaking you can rent kayaks and join in on kayak tours. There is so much to enjoy at Snug Harbor. The cottages are so comfortable and fully furnished and it is so beautiful to walk out your door and be right on the water. Where else can you sit and see the beautiful horses, lighthouse and sunsets all at once. Not too mention Capt. John's awesome boat tours. His knowledge of the island and open waters allows you to grasp beautiful memories while on your vacation. I never miss taking his tour. Each and every tour gives you a new memory to enjoy. John and Basia, the owners are awesome and want all their vacationers to have a wonderful time. And we do!
- Getaway792666 (6/5): Set your expectations - Location was excellent. Kayak and boat tour were great. Basha /John were nice but set your expectations. Rooms have 1 wall air conditioner that doesn’t cool unit (even w 2 standing fans). Units also need ant traps. We had ants even though we left out no food. Even saw a couple when we checked in. No Wi-Fi.
- Danielle (2/5): - This is not a Marina, nor is it Hotel. This property is a MOTEL that has not been renovated. If you don't mind staying in a motel from the 1970's, then this place would be fine. They would not give me a refund so I moved to the Fairfield Inn by Marriott which is an actual hotel. The hotel we stayed at ended up costing less than the Snug "Inn". Buyer beware. They have a strict no refund policy because they don't want to give everyone their money back once they see how old and outdated this property actually is.
- kimwU2165EV (10/5): Wonderful Experience-Beautiful Views - We had a wonderful experience at Snug Harbor. This was our first time staying on the Snug Harbor property. My family has been visiting Chincoteague for 40 years but the property where we had stayed in the past is no longer available. There were 10 of us and 1 dog this year and the 3 cottages we rented were perfect to enjoy time together and offered privacy when needed. The views are spectacular and each morning we saw ponies on Assateague as well as dolphins right off the dock in front of our cottages. At night the lighthouse is visible from the cottage decks. We rented kayaks and paddle boards from Snug Harbor and also brought our own. It was so convenient to have our water vehicles right outside the door. We took many early morning and evening paddles.
From my first contact arranging the trip with the owner, Basia, to the last day on the property-every interaction was effortless. John helped with the rentals and Maria was attentive to our housekeeping needs. Snug Harbor is our new home away from home in Chincoteague.
- Quest08390425355 (10/5): An amazing time!!! - Had a great time!! Walking out of our room and seeing the beautiful view was awesome! It was so relaxing and peaceful and all the shops, restaurants and beach were all close by. The people that work there were the best!! My memory is not the best, but the lady that checked me in was so kind and very helpful! She also helped make our boat tour even more special by giving us a private tour!!! She was very kind and very helpful and if I get a chance to go back to Chincoteague Island, I would definitely stay there again!!! I can't say enough good things about it, I loved it!! Thanks for having me and all your help!!
- Joanna (6/5): - This property is located in a beautiful spot overlooking the water with views of Assateague Island in the distance. The lodgings are adequate but quite dated and aged for the price. Kayak, stand up paddle boards or boat rentals are available for an additional fee. A suggestion to the staff would be to offer guests a kayak or paddle for a couple of hours at no charge to offset the high room rate and allow guests to enjoy the beautiful surroundings at their leisure. Providing some ground coffee and a breakfast/welcome snack to have in the kitchenette would also be a nice feature for the price of accommodation.
- laura (10/5): - Location on the water is lovely. Able to see the Chincoteague Wild Ponies on the distant barrier island from the cottage deck
- Courtney (10/5): - Enjoyed my peaceful time staying in a cute, cozy cottage. I will definitely be back!
- Nicholas (10/5): Best time - Had an awesome stay. Will probably go back
- Michael Karen (10/5): - Beautiful views! Lots of wildlife. Lounge chairs to sit, relax, and appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of Chincoteague! Loved that they offer pontoon boat rides on site!
- dong joon (8/5): - We spent two nights at the Snug Harbor marina and Hotel in the Chincoteague. John and his wife was great and helpful. The cottage itself was outdated and there was potable air conditioner in the kitchen and the bedrooms were very hot. Overall the experience was great.
- George (10/5): Great spot ! - Great spot!!! Could see the ponies from across the water ! Cant wait to go back. Little pricey but worth it !
- David (10/5): - We loved everything about Snug Harbor! It was the perfect relaxing place to stray. So clean and right on the water. The owners were great people and really made us feel welcome. The guided kayak tour was the best part of our trip! We had such a wonderful time, we can't wait to return. We could see the wild horses from our covered deck. Every morning we sat and watched them while we had coffee. We are already looking to book our next stay here. Great place! I cannot say enough about it!
- Bo (10/5): - Snug Harbor has the real island feel. From the beautiful view, palm trees, quiet reggae music to a comfortable spotless cottage, I can truly say there is no other place like it on the island. We have stayed in a lot of different properties on Chincoteague but this is our new favourite place to stay. A very nice addition are boats, kayaks, paddle boards to rent as well as guided kayak and boat tours right on the spot. We did a boat tour with Capt.John and it was just wonderful! I wish we stayed longer.
- Robin (8/5): - I really liked the view! I thought it was a little hard to find, signs.
Weird layout for the cottage, but functional. Cleaning staff friendly. It is not a marina!
Overall pleased.
- KATHRYN (6/5): Shabby, overpriced - We looked forward to a weekend and decided to splurge - paid $350 a night - but were not expecting a cabin from the 1950s. An old, poorly equipped bathroom; a lumpy, pilled futon for a couch (glad we didn't have to sleep on it) no microwave it the kitchen, no paper towels (even after asking) no hair dryer (they did supply after asking) Mismatched dishes, plastic window blinds that wouldn't open and close without major effort. There was a loud noise that I thought was a bullfrog outside the window - but it was the refrigerator. If we had paid half the price I would expect some shabbiness, but we were truly shocked. The positive point of this place is the view- the marshes and lighthouse are gorgeous. The host was nice and helpful about the area. Maybe they can use the inflated price to make the inside nice, too.
- David (10/5): - Delightful experience. Wonderful location, water views, friendly staff.
- Joanne (10/5): - This location was perfect. I was thrilled after booking this quaint bungalow right on the water. Worth every penny and my dog was able to stay too! Loved it so much I paid to stay a little longer and had a late checkout. Great staff, great stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good view and like stepping back in time for the cabin itself.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean. Deck not as lovely as appears on website. And very small.
- todd (2/5): Don’t stay here. - First off, we checked in and they charged me $50 per day per dog. I told them I had 1 and may have a second coming halfway through the trip. They charged me for both dogs regardless. And promised to reimburse me if the other dog didn’t come the entire time. I walked into the room and a used bandaid was in the floor. Then when I checked out they charged me for 2 extra days if 2 dogs and said they had video of me having 2 dogs there. When I asked to see the video he the owner said he could mail me the video and refused to show it to me. Then he went to the cottage and accused me of breaking stuff and called the police. The officer called me. Looked over the room and said this owner does this stuff all the time. And tries to over charge people. Room is not worth it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very peaceful place …nothing bad to report ..nice family runs it.
- Gregory (8/5): - On bay. Great view. Humble cabin accommodations. John and Basha are very friendly. John is a fantastic guide on excursions around the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Paradise Island & Pony Island is what l call Chincoteague & Assateague! Snug Harbor Is what makes it my paradise! Captain John has best boat tour & Basia has best kayak tour on the island! You can look out the window of your very own cottage and see the water, sand, palm trees, Assateague lighthouse & ponies! They have tiki huts for happy hour & Adirondack chairs for lounging. It’s a family operated business for 5 decades and it shows in the hospitality you’ll find at John & Basia’s Snug Harbor Resort & Marina! Their experience, knowledge & attention to detail is unsurpassed. Your cottage is prepared for you by Maria, Basia’s mom. She even lights a candle & turns on the AC to ensure you feel welcomed & comfortable. Snug Harbor is located away from the hustle & bustle of the tourist area, right on the water. It is the most serene place l have ever visited. Thank you John & Basia for an unforgettable, awesome vacation!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Property location is amazing. But property is smaller than what appears from pictures on website. Also wifi isn't that great even though they claim because of nasa close proximity. So if you're planning to work from this place using wifi, it won't work. Just a heads up
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The view was amazing. Great getaway place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a perfect place for a getaway. The cottages are comfortable and well-equipped. The location right on the water has a beautiful view of the Assateague Channel. The staff were extremely obliging and helpful and we look forward to staying there again
- Sara (10/5): Cozy and beachfront for family with music and wate - Perfect for our little family and baby! Sandy play area right on the water and a cozy little cabin to snooze in and wash up and eat.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Greatly enjoy our stay. The cabin is well designed and the location is excellent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Rooms were very clean and we loved the waterfront view. Beds are comfortable and kitchen was stocked with dishes/utensils. The office was quick to send someone over in under 2 minutes to turn the heat on for us and the room got to a perfect temperature. Make sure to wake up for sunrise and walk out on the dock, you won't regret the view. They have all the water activities available for rent, very convenient although we did not have time to use it. Would definitely book here again!
- Franz (8/5): - The views were amazing and we had a nice time at Snug Harbor and on the morning of checkout we were wishing to stay another night. The only thing we would ask to change would be if the TV was in the sitting area we’re all the guest can hangout and watch instead of the TV being in the one bed room. Also having possibly a microwave would have been nice. Other than that we loved Snug Harbor and we will plan to comeback soon.
- BeckyandJoe (4/5): - This place was disappointing from the very beginning. Way too expensive for what you actually get. The pictures make these little cottages seem grand. We wouldn't exactly call the view "waterfront" - even though you can walk out of the cottage and see the water, the pictures made us believe we may have a porch that faced the water, but we were next to the road. Our particular cottage was dated with a loud AC window unit (loud enough to interrupt our sleep several times and way too hot to turn off or even turn down). Good comfy bed, but no way you could sleep four people in this place. The pullout sofa was located directly across from the foot of the bed. Opening it up would have completely blocked any pathway from the door to the bathroom. Other major downfalls are that we could hear the guests next-door because the cabins share a wall.
The coolest part about this place was the wide range of water activities offered - kayaks, paddle boarding, boat rides, etc. However, we thought the activity options were pretty expensive. We opted for the sunset boat ride at $50/person plus tax. We also took our dog for an extra $25 fee. When we got on the boat that evening, we were informed she couldn't sit, stand, or lean on the seat (she was wearing a life vest and was tethered to us). For the extra fee, that seemed unfair & the rules weren't disclosed to us when we paid for her. The boat ride lasted just about an hour - great views, but just an okay tour guide. Stay was average at best.
- Susandavis (8/5): - Ac was in kitchen, bedroom was very hot.tv had 3 channels, quiet town without pony swim
- Carrie (8/5): - The views were amazing. The staff was superb. Unfortunately, COVID prevented the tiki bar from being open, which was a bummer. However, it was a wonderful quiet weekend away. I highly recommend the boat tour.
- GEC (10/5): - The best location on Chincoteague. I can't imagine a better one--right across the channel from Assateague, quiet and private. Cottage was immaculately clean. We checked in very late at night and Basia worked with us to make sure we could get in and get comfortable. We rented kayaks, which were great. Only wish we had more time to spend.
- Dawn (8/5): - Few minor issues - the door knobs were loose and there were no cleaning supplies in the unit. Other than that is was perfect. Plenty of space, comfortable bedding. Air conditioning unit in an odd place. Could use 2nd unit or ceiling fan to boost in Summer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is most definitely the best spot on chincoteague overlooking assateague with a view of the light house. The studio apartments were immaculate and had everything we needed to make and enjoy simple meals outside on the dock. Kayaking and boat tours were great. We will be coming back and hopefully staying longer than the 2 nights we stayed.
- Robert (10/5): Relaxing Get Away! - This was a relaxing get away to go view the wild ponies. Snug Harbor was across from the lighthouse with beautiful scenery and off the beaten path and "touristy" part of this small island. Highly recommend to take a boat tour of the island, so glad we did.
Etta's and Bill's were excellent places to eat. The town is cozy and quaint. Stop in the local establishments for a more personal shopping experience.
- Ck (8/5): - It was so close to pony swim with boating available. Would have been nice with paper, pencil, paper towels and hair dryer in room. Needed 4 chairs at table rather than 3. Very nice to be away from hotel type environment.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location is Quiet, unique and full of nature . Birds, ponies, fish and turtles.
- Sharon (10/5): Relaxing, throw back property - This property provides you with a quiet escape from the fast paced world. Units are spacious and clean with lovely views. Snug harbor offers many ways to enjoy the water and captain John is very knowledgeable about the area. Highly recommend the pontoon boat ride to the sand bar! Tiki bar huts are fun for hanging out and enjoying a beverage of your choice! The town of Chincoteague is quaint and filled with cool vibe food trucks with sandy play yards on the side. Fun for all ages!
- Sheri (10/5): Peaceful and comfortable - We had a wonderful trip and a perfect view of the ponies. It was quiet and peaceful. I could not have asked for more
- Mary (10/5): AMAZING - What an amazing place. Would highly recommend Snug Harbor! The people were fantastic and so helpful. The location is absolutely perfect. Will definitely return!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - THIS IS THE BEST SPOT IN CHINCOTEAGUE! Amazing view of the bay and horses, your own private beachfront, and it is the cleanest place I have ever stayed in! Bascia, the manager is so wonderful and has everything you need - kayaks, tours, even minnows for fishing! Don't miss out! We will only stay here in the future!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect location and staff is amazing. Very quiet and peaceful. Great place to reconnect with your spouse, unwind and recharge highly recommend you give this place a try.
- John (10/5): - Great location, even for this overall exceptional geography. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable and spotlessly clean rooms.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place, have to drive 15 minutes to the beach but it’s worth it, views there are beatyfull
- DIXI (6/5): Could be better with a few updates - The location is great and scenery beautiful. The grounds were well maintained. The cottage we stayed was clean but very dated. The bed sanked severely in the middle and I slept on the edge all night. We had a nice boat tour on the bay. This place has great potential but needs some capital infusion.
- Chris (10/5): Delightful Escape - We loved it! A little slice of heaven. You could relax on site at the various locations, rent boat and paddle boards and get a boat tour. Friendly and helpful staff. We will be going back!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Overrated - First, we paid for a 2 bedroom cottage and got a 1 bedroom with one other room being a kitchen with a small table and two small child like beds. By the time we paid extra fees, for having more than 2 people in a supposed 2 bedroom, this was by far the most overpriced place I have stayed at in a long time. Then the kayak rental had a surprise extra charge for using our credit card that we were never told about. The air conditioner was ridiculously loud and there was only 1 unit in the bedroom so the bedroom door couldn't be closed for my family in the other room to get air. There is a large amount of standing water under the very old cottage and I don't find it a coincidence that my youngest, who has asthma, was coughing and congested the whole time we were there and it then cleared up when we left and got home.
