Guest Reviews
- CORINNE (10/5): Super Hotel mit Charme - Wir kommen seit Jahren ins Ambassador Garden Home. Nun zum ersten Mal am neuen Standort. Hat nichts an Charme verloren. Sehr sauber, gute Lage (ruhig und doch nahe Thamel).
- Akki (10/5): Exceptional hotel stay in Thamel Kathmandu - If you appreciate traditional Newari style, this hotel is an essential place to stay in Kathmandu. It’s centrally situated in Thamel, close to shops, currency exchanges, and trekking agencies. The atmosphere throughout the hotel, including the rooms, is truly stunning—calm, beautifully designed, and full of thoughtful details. Landmarks like Swoyambhunath and the Kumari Temple at Kathmandu Durbar Square are easily accessible within about 30 minutes by local taxi. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, making the stay even better. Every corner of the property feels like stepping back into the year 1925. My stay was too short. I will come back again.
- alain (8/5): - Très bon accueil. Très confortable. Très bien situé.

- Makaju (10/5): First class hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu - Everything is new in the hotel. Rooms were spacious with private balcony with city view. Next day we had a hot breakfast and slowly strolled to Swayambhunath temple which is a UNESCO world heritage site. Overall, we had a wonderful stay in Thamel. We highly recommend this hotel for quality bed and breakfast in Thamel. We did not felt like going back. It was a comfortable experience throughout.
- Vikram (10/5): -
- Narendra (10/5): Comfortable and best stay in Thamel, Kathmandu. - Breakfast was served as per the order. We like the French Press Coffee, scrambled egg, toast & sausages at the sunny courtyard.
I & family were delighted to locate this hotel in busy Ktm. All shops, ATM were within the hotel radius. Evening view from the room was fantastic. Swayambhu Temple & valley view. Nothing we can think of. It was simply perfect.
- Rabindra (10/5): -
- Saurav (10/5): Go for it! - It was all good!!! Got much more than i expected. Must visit to expirence it. Nothing that i could think of
- Verified traveler (2/5): Disappointing -
Unfortunately the stay was bad. The water in the shower was almost always cold, the hotel was very poorly maintained, the TV didn't work, nor did the air conditioning, everything was very precarious. It's not worth what it costs. The staff are very friendly but cannot solve the problems. I wouldn't go back.
- Mahmud (1/5): I feel discomfort - I don’t like this property Management is not good
- Anusha (8/5): Very good -
- Rajdip (10/5): Excellent experience - Excellent
- Andreas (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff
Location Expensive for this type of accommodation
- gavin (10/5): - I loved it all ! This unique and quaint property is a delightful addition to your Kathmandu vacation ! In the heart of Thamel handy for durbur square city centre all walkable
The rooms are awesome in size and fully equipped to accommodate you and awake refreshed to an awesome brekkie and frankly great coffee .
Get to know your locals the rickshaw guys the taxi drivers the street sellers !
I stayed 14 nights and frankly I wanted to stay a thousand !
Give it a try you won’t be disappointed !
Side note there building a new hotel and it’s going to be spectacular!
- Tammy (10/5): - Charming place to stay… this place is quaint, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. But if your looking for high end or fancy by western standards go elsewhere. There is no elevator which was fine with us. There is no pool or sun deck for lounging which again was fine with us. We were in the heart of Thamel with shops and restaurants galore; loved every minute of our short stay and have already recommended it to like minded travelers. The in house breakfast was excellent and more than we could eat.
- Andre (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andre (9/5): Superb -

- Mohammad (1/5): Bad -
- Yu (5/5): We probably can find a better hotel for the same price.. - We have to leave eary at 6:30 a.m to catch the bus to Pokhra. So we had packed breakfast instead. So there is not much we can comment about the breakfast. The room is a bit tiny and dark. Since we were staying for only 1 night we didn't bother to ask for another room. The hotel is tucked in corner location in Thamel so it is a bit difficult to find.
- Kristien (8/5): Very good -
- Jonathan (10/5): - Ambassador Garden House is a nice boutique hotel in Thamel. The garden area is very relaxing, the staff are attentive and the bed is very comfortable. The kichen/cafe staff make a very nice coffee and breakfast.
- Christophe (9/5): Superb -
- Alexander (9/5): A Nice place to stay in Tamel - It was à pleasure to stay in this hôtel with à fruendly staff and à familiar atmosphère. The housekeeping needs some encouragement... Very few housekeeping...
- Verified traveler (8/5): A small but very nice boutique hotel midst in Tham - A very nice hotel in the middle of Thamel. Very nicely decorated with a quiet garden in the courtyard, where the restaurant is also located. Our room (Super Delux) was very spacious and traditionally decorated. The staff is very helpful and friendly. every time we come to kathmandu we stay at this hotel at the beginning and end of our trip and will continue to do so. It almost feels like coming home.
- Lisa (10/5): Great place to stay in the heart of Thamel - We had an excellent stay at the Ambassador Garden Home. The location is right in the heart of Thamel and we loved walking about the neighborhood. Great options for cafes, bars, and restaurants all around. The staff at the hotel were super helpful and friendly. Great breakfast served each morning. And they helped us arrange taxis, and whatever else we needed! Rooms were clean, bathrooms were nice, hot shower, wifi! I highly recommend staying here!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Location is good, but price could be down if we consider its facilitates are old and just ok. But people are nice.
- Praneet (6/5): - I check out very early in the morning. I could not pay my bill for the dinner, cause I have change it to my room.Luck, The person that pick me up it’s from Nepal. He had to go back later to pay my bill.
- Thayne (10/5): Unexpected gem in Kathmandu. - We had an amazing stay. Owner scheduled a car so we could travel out of city to great lookout that gave us fantastic view of the magnificent mountain range and Mt. Everest.
Great breakfast each day and pizza was delicious, especially with a nice cold Nepal Ice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We just loved the ambiance of this hotel. It wasn't pretentious, just has a very cosy, homey vibe. It's very central in Thamel, so lots happening here, but our room was very quiet at night, the beds comfortable. Breakfasts (included) we're very good, the excellent Nepali coffee served in Bozeman with hot milk : yums.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not sure how this has such a high rating. It states duluxe but far from it. Very dirty, beds loose, noisy and wobbly. Shower was disgusting, with panels on the wall falling off. Much better and cheaper accommodation in that area.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Don’t get fooled by the big discount price. - Not sure how this hotel is worth the regular price quoted and is always on sale at about $55 which represents about 60% of the regular rate. I thought it was a great deal until I arrived. Rooms are dated, security of the rooms are poor using a padlock to lock the door, AC leaked water onto the floor, no sound proofing, poor access having to continually jump a puddle of water to the entrance, just not worth it compared to some of the other places available. Stayed for 5 days and then moved to another hotel for the next 5 days. Will not stay here again and would not recommend this place.
- Eugenia (8/5): Fabulous fr a solo female traveler. - This place was wonderful. Everyone was welcoming and as a single women traveler, I felt very safe. There were some quirks: the air conditioner didn’t work and I had to move to another room after I unpacked. Some of the lights didn’t work and the fan in the bathroom didn’t work. The place was very clean and the decor was very thoughtful. The food was delicious and the breakfast that came with the stay was delightful. I do have one word of caution, beware of Vicki the manager, he is quite a player. He knows EVERYTHING! So he claims.
- ASHLEY (8/5): Nice hotel in Thamel - Overall it was great- location is super and the facilities are great against other options in the area. Hot showers and good service. I’d recommend.
- Brad (6/5): Good for a couple of nights - Great people pretty good room right in the middle of the shopping area. Very convenient
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hotel in the heart of Thamel. Very friendly staff, great restaurant/bar. If you want to escape large chain hotels this is the place to be.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The price quoted on Expedia website is way higher than the actual price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I booked this hotel as a treat for my nephew at the end of our trip and was pleasantly surprised at the care and attention of the staff. The place is beautiful, the food is very good and it is also right in the heart of Thamel
- Andrew (8/5): Good location and staff - This review has to be taken in the context of it being in Nepal, it was our first trip there and expectations have to be a bit lower! If this hotel was in Canada I would probably be giving it a lower score.
The good: Location is smack in the middle of Thamel, a major tourist area, on a street that doesn't allow vehicle traffic and right opposite a decent grocery store for all those things you forgot. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms have a/c and decent windows so it was pretty quiet, although we were at the back of the hotel which I'm sure helped, I also think we had one of the biggest rooms, so we had plenty of space, others looked a bit more cramped . Included breakfast was good, WiFi was decent, and the little courtyard in the back was an oasis of calm after the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. Beds were comfortable and decent amount of hot water.
The rest: Overall the place seems a little tired, ongoing maintenance appears to be a lower priority in Nepal. Cleanliness was OK, but I don't think they actually use any cleaning supplies, just a sweep up and a wipe down with a damp cloth, which meant the bathroom often had a strange smell.
Overall I would stay there again, but you have to keep your expectations realistic!
- kalpesh (10/5): Amazing boutique hotel in perfect location! - Amazing hotel, fabulous location! Best thing about this hotel is the super friendly and hospitable staff.
Perfect after my EBC trek!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stop over on way to EBC - Good facilities and central to tourist area
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very new and clean place, spacious rooms, super relaxing roof top with view!
The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Everything was perfect and it will be our kathmandu base in the future!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - nice clean boutique hotel in the Thamel area of Kathmandu. Plenty of bars and restaurants and local shops.
- John (10/5): - The location in the Thames area of Kathmandu was fantastic. You can walk to many restaurants, bars, massage places, and coffee shops. The true treasure however of this place is Mr Bicky who was so helpful throughout our stay. We had a very short stay of 2 nights and he helped us maximize the Kathmandu experience. He arranged everything for us including plane to see Everest, airport transfers, full day guide, taxis, and massages. The hotel is really charming and reminds one of old time travel with its homey feeling. Very nice decorations and a great breakfast. We were so lucky to stay there and will do so again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location in the Thamel neighborhood of Kathmandu with many shops and restaurants (there is even a grocery store right across the street). The hotel arranged some nice tours with a driver and an excellent guide - Prakass.
- CM (10/5): - I highly recommend this place! I stayed here for 4 nights alone and i felt very safe, like a home. It's in the heart of Thamel, i enjoyed the hot shower and breakfast. The room was clean and warm during winter season. I'm planning to visit Nepal again and will definitely stay here again.
- Ronald (10/5): First trip to Nepal - I picked this hotel because it was not far from the airport, it was right in the center of town and the price was right for my budget. Check in and check out was easy. All staff was very friendly. They provided me with a cup of tea while I filled out the forms. The room was cosy , the decor was awesome and the bed was good. There was a plate of fruit provided in the room on arrival, the room comes with a mini fridge. Your door into the room is a double door secured by a padlock,so don't lose your key while sightseeing, I thought that was cool. I felt very safe all the time I was there. They have a security guard on the premiss as well. You can eat at their restaurant (outdoor patio area), which I did, the food was great. The hotel is off the main drag by a few yards which was nice, at night you did not hear the pedestrian traffic or music. The hotel is less than 50 yards to shops, bars, restaurants, bakeries, etc. I would try some of their local food, very good and cheap while walking around the shop areas. My taxi driver from the airport had no problems finding the place however depending on the approach the vehicle is not allowed in that area so you will be dropped off and you will need to walk to the hotel. My tour guide had no problem finding the hotel as well. Overall, I am pleased with my choice and stay and would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A pleasant hotel with good service. Located in the heart of Thamel, this hotel provides all the amenities you can hope for. A very enjoyable stay with attentive staff. If I am ever in Kathmandu again I will certainly stay here again.
- Issara (10/5): Cozy hotel in central of Thamel - The location is great! Just only 10 minuets walk to bus station (Pokhara) and 15 minuets walk to Ratna Park (Bhaktapur local bus station) and in front of the hotel there is a big supermarket.
The room is clean but it’s take a time to run a hot water. The atmosphere is also great, They have a courtyard with a small garden.
And the breakfast is super!
- Ellen (10/5): Ambassador Garden Hotel - Antique hotel, yet clean and comfortable. Intimate..staff is great !
- Andrew (8/5): Long weekend R&R - My third stay at AGH, and I’d certainly go back again, this is great place in the heart of Thamel. The only improvement I’d like to see is to the internet speed, but this seemed a common problem at the different cafes and bars in the area.
- Erica (8/5): Top hotel in Kathmandu - Excellent hotel in perfect location.
- kasey (10/5): Beautiful hotel in busy Thamel - Hotel was extremely clean and had nice new fluffy towels. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again.
- Nate (10/5): Great hotel - Great hotel oasis in the middle of Thamel, Kathmandu. Beautifully decorated, excellent food and incredible staff. I have already made plans to stay there again next year when I come back to Nepal. It is a great jumping off point to rejuvenate while exploring Kathmandu. I would recommend a deluxe room. I stayed in 204, a corner room, and it was a large room.
- yair (8/5): nice and old style hotel in the middle of Thamel, - we had good time in this hotel and very pleasent mangement and staff
- Anthony (10/5): Great stay - Excellent friendly staff. Clean rooms, hot water and in a very busy part of town. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby.
- roberta (10/5): Plenty of ambiance. - A charming, boutique hotel with an excellent restaurant. Best coffee we've ever had! Taxi service found location somewhat difficult to find. Helpful, accommodating staff. Friendly owner.
- Andrew (8/5): Oassis in the heart of Thamel - Stay started badly, as the hotel was overbooked, and my colleague and I had to stay in a neighbouring hotel of a lesser standard. We moved back to the AGH the next morning, and were given room upgrades as compensation for the inconvenience, so all ok really. The AGH is a very nice hotel, with history dotted around the hotel. Rooms well furnished and comfortable. The location is great for those wanting to be in the heart of Thamel, with all of its hustle and bustle.
- Douglas (8/5): Oasis in the Sea of fun, crazy Thamel - The Ambassador Garden is an Oasis in the sea of craziness that is Thamel, Kathmandu, Nepal. This family owned and run hotel is very quaint and offers all kinds of Nepali decorations throughout the hotel. Lobby is warm and comfortable and an excellent place to meet fellow travellers - many of whom are heading or to or returning from Treks, Charity Works, Climbs, Rafting Trips and general excursions all over Nepal. Given the range of hotels in Thamel, this is well above average. I would recommend it if you are looking for something with character, it's own style, friendly staff, friendly fellow travellers and all at a very modest price.
- fareed sabbah (8/5): Nice place to stay - My first time in nepal, 2 nights at kathmandu
Nice place to stay, in the heart of the thamel but with very quit garden that some how makes u forget that u r in the thamel
One problem (that may be the same in other hotels of the same level) is the very controled electrtric consumption, evrey day there is several electricity stop in kathmandu, u have ti ask for electric supply from the hotel ( when u r out of ur room "some how" the electrical current in ur roon is of..)
the room (superior deluxe) was enogh big, not huge, with a window that u can open just in a small part, the bed is clean and comfortable
I didn't eat there so i can't tell about that but people were happy with the food.
The stuff is nice and helpfull, as all nepali people are..
The price is not cheap in my eyes, but maybe the location a reason
A nice place to stay, if Thamel is the place u want to be in
- Sunal (6/5): - Nice hotel in the centre of the town.Don't expect so much.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Location in Thamel, No Noisy, Cleaned, - I like this place for great location in Thamel. Find a very nice supermarkets, resturants, nice bakery shops, souvenir shops, bookstores all are around. And great connection to any directions by walking; 15 minutes walk to Kathmandu Durber Square, Room are clean, nice lobby and that resturant with greens, nice music and incense smell. Staffs are nice. An ATM machine at the hotel'compound. Standard Charter ATM is at ATM lounge on Chaksibari Marg. Taxi charges;from hotel to airport:1000 NpR, from Bus Terminal to hotel:300 NpR, from hotel to Swayambhu (A big Stupa):600-700-1000 NpR.
Hotel spot : try to find a bekery shop "Hot Bread" or "Kathmandu Guesthouse" on Chaksibari Marg. Street will lead to Hot Bread, Hotel Access is behind Hot Bread where to right for Kathmandu Guesthouse, to a bit left for Ambassador Garden Home. Ask Taxi to Kathmandu Guesthouse direction and stop at Hot Bread.
- Boon Leong (8/5): Ambassador Garden Home - This was my third time in Nepal and first time staying at AGH. The word "home" in the name of the hotel described it aptly. The lobby was cosy and the staff was especially personable and helpful. It is well located in Thamel and within easy reach of the conveniences of bookstores, restaurants, supermarket, shops for outdoor gears
- DD (8/5): Nice place in central, quiet Thamel location - Pleasant hotel. Excellent staff and service. Not a budget hotel but decent value (for a single person).
I enjoyed staying there but might look for cheaper alternative next time. That said, glad I stayed for a few days. Nice restaurant on site.
- leila (8/5): Charm & Good Location - Located in the midst of the hustle and bustle yet not noisy. Has a lot of charm and homey feel yet private.
- Meghan (10/5): Will Always Return to Ambassador Garden Hotel! - Perfect location, perfect staff, clean and safe accomadation - the best place in KTM!
- Glenys (10/5): Lovely hotel, which includes all the little extras - Another enjoyable short stay, stayed in a superior thus time which was a little smaller than delux but on my isn was fine, enjoyed their breakfast that was included, hopefully will be back to enjoy again. Thank you for another lively stay
- ashish (10/5): Excellent hotel and services - Wanna stay in centre of kathmandu, then Thamel is the place. Ambassador is in the middle of this acion. Hotel has smaller rooms but quite comfortable and has all modern facilities. Breakfast is efficient and is high quality. They can suggest and arrange any trips or treks required by you.
- Carolyn (10/5): Lovely hotel in Thamel - Very comfortable hotel in bustling Thamel. Beautiful central courtyard for breakfast and meals...a real oasis of calm. Very kind, helpful staff. Nicely decorated with historical Nepalese artefacts.
