Guest Reviews
- Akeel (4/5): - Property is at a great location, in between the 2 parks. Also, while it is a very simple and basic lodge, that is perfectly fine, since no one is visiting for a luxury stay option.
But a better job is expected from the staff. Apart from the manager, there is a lack of professionalism on display. They can do a better job in ensuring there is no litter on the property. And make sure they are available after hours in case of guest emergencies.
- Michael (2/5): - Top Standort, leider wird dieser durch das schmutzige Zimmer sehr abgewertet.
Leider kein Nachtessen verfügbar.
Zu teuer für das geleistete.
- Mark (2/5): - If I could give it a zero star, I would. Read the following:
Room was dusty, cob webs on the lamp shade, floor was nasty. No ac in the unit, burned up in the early evening and froze in the early am. The radiator heater knocked all night.
They mentioned about “little animals” in the rooms when we checked in but didn’t see any or signs of them in the room.
Breakfast was totally different. There was a bowl of green apples apparently left overnight and you could see where a mouse had a quick snack. This bowl of apples was left there two consecutive mornings.
I would recommend staying in Fresno or Three Rivers. This place was one week from shutting down for winter but that is no excuse for keeping the place up.
Be warned before booking. I should have read the other reviews more closely before booking.
- Marta (2/5): - I am relieved I spent only one night in this so-called “hotel.” It is hard to understand how it can still be open— it should be investigated by the health authorities.
The room was filthy beyond imagination. Dust, stains, and a foul smell greeted me the moment I stepped inside. The carpet was sticky, the bed covers looked as if they had been used for weeks(sheets and towels thankfullyok), and the toilet… I believe it was last cleaned during the Secession wars. The bathroom was so unhygienic that I preferred not to touch anything at all.
Breakfast was equally disgraceful: a few stale pieces of bread, something that might have been coffee, and an overall impression of neglect and dirt. Dirty tables, scary kitchen in sight, and crumbs everywhere — it was impossible to eat without feeling sick.
I travel a lot, and I can say without exaggeration that this was the worst accommodation experience in the Western world. Just one night there was already too much. Avoid it at all costs — this place should not even exist. Wifi worked well.
- Laura (2/5): - The only two good things about this hotel was the staff was nice and the location. Otherwise this was the filthiest, dingy, run down hotel that I or my husband have ever stayed in (and we do a lot of traveling). The men’s bathroom was horrible (growth of something in the urinal) and the shower in our room had mold growth. For $220/night - no worth it at all
- wendy (4/5): - Good
- Rick (2/5): - The entire "lodge" smelled of mildew and sweat. The "restaurant" was so filthy we could not even consider buying food or partaking of their included "breakfast." The room was also poorly maintained and unclean. The television satellite input was not functioning at all. The bed was lumpy and left me with a sore back. The price for these substandard conditions is ridiculous. The location, although situated in the park, was not conveniently located near the major sights. The CA health department should investigate the kitchen. I do not recommend staying at this dump.
- Carolyn (8/5): - Our television did not work for two days even when we were told it should work after contacting their tv service.
Staff was extremely curteous.
- Lori (10/5): - Stony Creek is a charming small lodge located in the beautiful Sequoia National Forest. It is an older facility but is well maintained and clean. The staff was excellent and attentive to our needs. Though there is a short drive to the main sights in Sequoia National Park, it is away from the crowds and is more affordable than other options in the area. Free breakfast included! We enjoyed our stay there very much!
- Bruce (6/5): - Overall, Stoney Creek provided what we needed: a place to stay before going to Kings Canyon the next day, and the staff were very nice. Unfortunately, I can’t say much more positive than that. We arrived about 9:00p.m., and had to track down someone in the employee lodging to get in; the “free breakfast” was eggs, bacon, weak coffee and boxed cereal; the TV didn’t work and after 15+ minutes, there was still no hot water in the shower in the morning.
- Todd (4/5): - Good location and friendly staff. However, room smelled stange and common areas not clean.
- Karen (6/5): - Carpet threadbare. Metal base of mattress stuck out and was a hazard for tripping or bruising.
- Kimberly (8/5): - This hotel feels more like you went to a rustic cabin. It has 11 rooms. It's attached to a store and a small restaurant. It is one of the few places you can actually stay in the park which makes it well worth it in terms of saved driving time. The entire property runs on a generator, which limits what they can run. There is no AC in the rooms, but they have windows right above the bed that you can open and use to cool things off. Our room cooled off well after just a few minutes. The bathroom was clean and the room tidy. That said, it could use a good deep clean behind dressers and under the bed. There was no refrigerator or microwave in the room but the great room had a microwave and coffee and tea available at all times. The great room also had beautiful floor to ceiling windows and lots of places to sit. The TV did have a decent channel selection. Breakfast was nice with several options. Staff was very friendly and very accommodating. They have to get you ice if you need some. Knowing that the entire place is run by generator, I am impressed with what they have for services. The location is also perfect if you are going into Kings Canyon from Sequoia.
- Jayson (10/5): - Awesome lodge right outside the national park.
- jennifer a. (4/5): Pricey, old, dirty hotel. - Needs a deep cleaning. Mold on shower door. Dusty.
No hair dryer.
WiFi good.
No tv service, staff said, “we’re having a problem with that receiver. “. End of conversation.
Quite pricey, old, dirty hotel.
- John (4/5): - The property was very dirty and unkept. The front entry was filthy and looked like it had not been swept in months. The rooms were okay with some mold in the shower. The hotel has potential but needs an engaged staff that cares.
- Marwan (6/5): - The service was not good enough. Breakfast trays were short
- Michael (8/5): Great Location - Staff was awesome. Room was good but bathroom floor was dirty. The best part was staying inside the park and being able to wander around at night to see starry skies.
- Xiaopei (6/5): - ac and heater are not working
- Ericmo (6/5): - No Ac and just fan
- Glenn (8/5): - If you are lucky enough to find accommodations within the park, I would take it despite the high prices. I have stayed both inside the park and outside the park and it’s not worth the extra two hours round-trip driving if you stay outside the park. Staff was always super friendly. There’s even a convenient gas station at the hotel. Sure, it is overpriced but the convenience makes it worth it
- John (4/5): - TV did not work, but they did give me a discount. No hair dryer in room. Shower took forever to get hot. Spider webs and dust was everywhere. Only real plus was convenient to Yosemite & Sequoia National parks.
- Karelly (2/5): - There is mold in the restroom, the price is so high for what you’re getting. The bed is uncomfortable. And no AC
- Matthew (8/5): - Gas station
- Glen (10/5): - Older facility but excellent staff and service.
- Roger (4/5): - For $295 (including tax) we had a bathroom where the sink faucet only dribbled out water. We had to wash our hands and faces in the shower with cold water. Property is overpriced and in very poor condition. The staff was nice but inexperienced.
- Wayne (6/5): - The property is old and needs to be updated. The toilet in our bathroom ran constantly. The restaurant had limited items available from the menu and the available food was mediocre. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The store was also pretty well stocked and there's a gas station in the parking lot.
- JOHN (8/5): - everything was good except for the tv in my room didn't work
- dawnn (8/5): - This was a great property remember it's very old and rustic with that said, I wish I had known there was only fans for cooling and they had not been cleaned in forever so when you turn them on dust flies everywhere or at least in room 5...other then that... The room was clean and fresh and the staff was very nice and the food for breakfast was all fresh and wonderful...
- GEORGE (2/5): - The property was run down and in poor condition. Outside trash cans were over running in trash and the area around the building was dirty and trashy. The lobby was run down and in bad need of remodeling. The stairs to our room and the second floor had step runners broken or missing. Our room was old an needed to be updated. We had no coffee pot or refrigerator. At night it got very cold and the heater did not work. When I checked the heater on the wall I found that the gas valve was turned off. It was very cold and there is no one manning the front desk at night and no phone in your room to call for help. You could go outside across the parking lot and down the hill and knock on a door and someone would help. I did not want to go outside in the dark with bear warning in that area. It was a very poor stay. We kept a pair of stocks on the whole time we were in our room as we felt the carpet and tile was dirty. I would rate this lodge a 0 or 1 for very poor. We had a reservation for two nights but checked out after that first night. The lady at the front desk said she could only refund my next night if she could sale the room for that night. I rather doubt that would happen.
- Vinh (8/5): - Ok
- David (4/5): - Stony Creek Lodge is in a favorable location on the edge of Sequoia National Park. The location saves significant driving time leaving the park to find better lodging. Otherwise, it is an old, rustic property with paper thin walls and limited food offerings of poor quality.
- Ryan (8/5): - Great location.
- Ryan (8/5): - Great location.
- Alejandro (2/5): - It is very expensive, any service there, it is complete far of anything. There is no one after 8pm. Ulgly and EXPENSIVE
- Ziv (4/5): - This is a very very basic accommodation that can use some serious renovation but the room was clean.
- Rodney (6/5): - The location to the park was good, the check-in and check-out process was easy, and the room was quiet. It also had breakfast included, a restaurant on site, gas pumps on site, and a little convenience store/gift shop. The rooms were outdated and a little run down, the matress was old and bouncy, and in my opinion overpriced. The staff were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable of the parks.
- Mario (10/5): - I liked the creek right down the parking lot, the breakfast was great specially the potatoes. We saw a few deer down the trail to the creek.
- William (6/5): - Very basic, but conveniently located. No elevator, so had to pack a lot of luggage up 2 flights of stairs. Also, have limited access to staff after hours. It served the purpose though
- Fuming (2/5): - Bad services, Simple property, Poor breakfast.
- ELIDIA (6/5): Ok for a night stay - We decided to stay here as it was the only convenience location available in the park. It’s an ok place for a night stay. You sacrifice comfort for convenience. Could use some updates. The staff was super friendly and helpful!
- Amy (10/5): - Staff was great !
- Sherry (10/5): - Could use updating but clean and staff was helpful.
- Wayne (10/5): - Convenient
- Bobbi (10/5): - Beautiful and great breakfast
- YOSHITAKA (10/5): - The staff were charming and provided excellent service.
The lodge has a shop that sells food and includes an eat-in area.
- David (6/5): - It served its purpose just very outdated the breakfast was good.
- Douglas (4/5): - We
- Yanping (10/5): - Old building but nice
- Antonio (4/5): - No había agua potable. La tienda y el restaurante no tenían suministros y el primer día estaban fuera de servicio. El desayuno no fue operativo el segundo día. En general, la propiedad necesita mejor gestión.
- patrick (8/5): - it was available during busy weekend and on short notice.
- Saurabh (10/5): - What you would expect from a mountain resort. Front desk and country store closes at 8 PM and the nearest food options (not great) are about 40 mins away. Buy some ramen from the store and spare yourself a drive.
- Deanna Van (2/5): - The staff was very snotty and unfriendly. The restaurant had only one employee working it and serving the customers. The continental breakfast was cold. They didn't start serving until 8:00am.
- Kathryn (8/5): - Stay would have been great if we were told the hours of the breakfast and shop opening. Everything else was very straightforward
- Debbie (6/5): - Property is convenient inside the park. Dining room was closed for dinner with no advance notice and nowhere else near to eat. Room was no frills and barely clean. Front desk and store closed at 7 pm. Staff were nice.
- Adam (8/5): Comfortable stay at the park - Nice stay in the park. One drawback is you have to drive elsewhere for dinner on some nights and the roads are along the mountain. When we stayed, the restaurant was closed Wednesdays and Tuesdays. Breakfast was hot and tasty and available every day.
- JOHN (8/5): - Fantastic location but showing its age
- JD (10/5): - The location of this lodge wins. It is in the park and in the woods. It is perfect for exploring half of the park one day then continuing on to explore the other half the next day. The dining room is quaint and has excellent food, but for limited hours.
- Glen (6/5): - The staff wasn’t very friendly. It was cold in the lobby. There was no bar as advertised. There were no lamps in the room. Only really bad overhead lighting. No plugs in the room and it took 15 minutes I repeat 15 minutes to get hot water.
- Satomi (8/5): - The staff was friendly and accommodating.
- Luz (6/5): - There were some items inside the room that were very dirty, like the fan and the VHS unit under the TV. It appeared that they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time.
- Rob (2/5): - There a serious issues with the management of this place. It is next to a natural park, so higher prices are expected due the artificial scarcity of offerings. However the lack of effort needed to hark in the cash was clear. I wanted to make the most of my time in the park, so stay out till sunset and get moving at sunrise. This very basic expectation is impossible due to the minimal services. After 1900 no-one is left of the personnel, so no food, or any thing else. Then breakfast was super late, starting at 0800 only. The room was very basic, which I did not mind. What I did mind was that the folks at the desk were not very competent. There was apparently some issue with payment, despite Expedia already withholding the funds at reservation. The guy at the reception was a bomb of nerves, did not seem to understand much, and was just pushing for another payment ASAP, ignoring the Expedia intermediary completely. This made me loose even more time. Also there were some rough folk in the shop/reception that were uncough. I think they worked on the property or nearby, but were seriously unpleasant due to their verbal aggression to another worker.
All in all, the location was perfect, but not in my right mind would I stay in this place again, not for the 270$ I paid, or the 100$ it was worth.
- Cynthia (2/5): - The room did not have air conditioning. The restaurant was not open except from 8:00am to 9:30am.
- Joseph (8/5): - Great location. Great breakfast. A bit run down but being in the park was great.
- sheromie (6/5): - The staff are very very nice! From the moment we arrived Todd offered to take our cooler upstairs for us. He’s also the cook and makes a great breakfast! The breakfast is awesome with hot and cold choices and more.
The lodge itself is ok. The history of the place is interesting and has a number of old pics to look at and appreciate. The common room was nice and big and has a coffee machine and microwave to heat up food for dinner ( the onsite restaurant closes at 8 or earlier if it’s not busy). The maintenance of this place though has been deferred for quite sometime. The walls are paper thin and the air vent for the wall heater is open to the exterior hall. There’s no A/C but they have a ceiling fan and a portable one also. There’s no fridge but the one cool thing is they give you a bag of ice each day for your cooler.
The room and the bathroom was clean but there were some areas with a good amount of dust. Bathroom sink was pretty slow to drain. The room entry is by card ( they put your room number on it). The staff all leave by 8 or 8:30pm and there are some that live in a separate building on site that you can call if needed.
One night another couple’s card key stopped working and they had to call a manger to come and make a new one. They lived over an hour away and they didn’t get into their room until 11.
That’s kind of different!
Loads of parking and also a trail access and there is a gas station! Great place to see the Milky Way!
- monty (10/5): - Todd at Lodge was great and very helpful. Breakfast and Dinner were great. Especially for a park. Todd was very helpful and had many roles. Very friendly, he was the cook and did a great job on the meals.
- Vera (8/5): - Googled address takes to different locations
- Michael (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Stoney Creek Lodge, with its charm and superior customer service. The rooms were clean and functional. The staff were warm and helpful with advice on outdoor excursion recommendations. The one item that surprised us was the small diner that included more than pizza as we had seen in advertisements. They also included a complimentary morning continental breakfast.
- Gregory (8/5): - Out in the middle of the national park, a comfortable lodge. Nothing fancy, but it was clean and comfortable for a night's stay. There is a convenience store and a small restaurant. We had pizza in the restaurant and it was mediocre. But it is the only restaurant around so at least it was a hot meal! The morning breakfast was quite good, however. We enjoyed our stay.
- Eileen (8/5): - We enjoyed staying “in” the park. The lodge was quiet at night. We could see so many stars! No AC, but ceiling fan and a fan were provided. The room was clean, but there was a strong, unpleasant odor from the cleaning solutions I guess? If you stay in a National Park, this was just right.
- Amy (4/5): - The property had no air-conditioning; the internet was not working for part of the stay; the property was not well maintained
- Katherine (6/5): - The room smelt heavily of cleaner fluids, even while leaving all the windows open. Other than that, we loved the convenience of the location in Sequoia National Forest in between Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not Recommend for Summer Days - We decided to leave and find another hotel outside of the park area after we checked-in to Stony Creek Lodge. After reading all the reviews I was prepared for a basic stay, but it didn’t even live up to that standard, the place is certainly lacking maintenance. But my biggest issues are: 1. no air conditioning, I understand the climate is usually cool in the park area, but if you visit during hot summer days, it can be very unpleasant for most of the day. 2. Location wise, it’s not very convenient either, still 10-20 miles away from main attractions/visitor centers in Sequoia or Kings Canyon, keep in mind, the road is winding, such distance takes much longer to drive 3. They do have wi-fi, but very spotty, we basically can’t connect it the whole time there. 4. Hot water takes 15 mins to get.
- Andrew (10/5): - Staff very helpful. Opened a stuck window. NO problem with getting ice, and more drinking water.
- Teresa (6/5): - It was very convenient to be in the park - and this property was in the middle of sequoia and kings canyon national parks.
It’s an older property and rather dates. No air co sitting g in the rooms. There is food on site but the restaurant hours are very limited. Other restaurants ra in the park aren’t too far and have better hours. Staff was okay though not super interested in their lodge customers. Would stay here again due to location.
- Linda (10/5): - The property was not air conditioned and we were not offered a fan even though they were available. Meals were only available after 4. The staff was very helpful and helped my husband who is disabled. We would stay there again
- Kfir (8/5): - Old place but in the best location in the area, very friendly and good food
- Patricia (4/5): Disappointing - Beds were not very comfy. Need better pillows and blankets. Staff was not very helpful. Asked a question at 4:55 and the women did not want to even listen to my question, but wanted to lock up and leave.
- Marinell (6/5): - I would never use the word "resort" for Stony Creek Lodge. It's basic. Served its purpose well. Had a bed and a bathroom. Lukewarm breakfast was included. The building was older so nothing fancy. It all depends on what you're expecting. It doesn't fit my definition of "resort" or even "hotel room" but location was awesome and it was wonderful to be in Sequoia and King's Canyon National Parks. I highly recommend it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): In the heart of Sequoia - Great location, simple lodge but convenient. Very nice staff, would recommend.
- Julia (8/5): - The view is beautiful. The room was adequate and clean. It was great to finally be able to stay in the park. There’s an unmarked trail behind the parking lot that leads to the creek. The lodge has its own gas pumps. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I think my only complaint about the room itself is that I like to have a chair and table where I can work on my computer.
The food was very good. However, it’s not really sustainable to have one guy taking all the orders and doing all the cooking. Maybe consider making a change that would improve the experience for everyone (including the cook). For instance, stick to one type of item (burgers or pizza, not both). Create an organized system for taking people’s orders. Prioritize the orders of lodge guests over people walking in off the street.
Also, consider making the wifi for guests only, even if it’s only after a certain time at night. At night, swarms of teenagers from local campsites would sit in the parking lot and eat up all the bandwidth.
I see people complaining about the price. As someone who takes a lot of road trips and stays in or around nature areas, I would consider the price for Stony Creek Lodge to be quite good. You are not paying for a 4 star hotel. You are paying for easy access to a national park, and Stony Creek is right in the middle of it.
I would definitely stay here again.
- Kathy (8/5): - Beautiful property with friendly employees
- Nicole (6/5): - Cant' beat the location. Overpriced for what it is. The "hot breakfast" was terrible.
- Roehl (8/5): - We enjoyed the main cook Tod personality. He made our stay memorable.
I have a medicine that needs to be refrigerated and I had to ask for ice instead of an ice maker that I can get to right away. Refrigerator would have been better in the room.
Breakfast starts at 8am which is too late to start enjoying Sequoia National Park.
Dinner ends at 7pm and 6:30pm on Sunday which is early when you’re still outdoors exploring the park.
- Michele (6/5): - Employees that live out back had very loud company till midnight even though quiet hours are posted 9pm-8am
Limited food but pizza was good! Breakfast did not start till 8am and we did not wait.
- ERKAN (6/5): - Good value for money.
- Jane (10/5): Kings Sequoia National Park - We were in a National park ,very remote! Stoney Creek lodge was very welcoming.
The lodge food and people were fantastic !
- James (10/5): - Staying within the park was a blessing. The morning breakfast buffet was very nice, while the sister restaurants were exceptional-the trout meal was a treat.
- JOHN (8/5): - everything was fine except it took a long time to get hot water. also, i didn't know their restaurant would be closed until i arrived, which was an inconvenience
- John (6/5): - The property was just opened, after being close for the winter, and it needs a comprehensive renovation
- JAMES (4/5): - Like the staff told us, It's like inside camping, better than a tent!
- ALBERTO (6/5): - The hotel is very old and I think it requires remodeling in several areas.
- joseph (8/5): - the hotel sign should be bigger and as clear as it is on the web.
- Ashlee (2/5): - Employees were unfriendly and not helpful. Also accused us of not paying and tried to charge us twice.
Room was dirty. Outlets do not work. Lamp in room did not work, ceiling fan had bulbs that didn’t work. Lost power 3 times in one night.
Only perk is location. Will not be back.
- Kateryna (4/5): - Property is very old. Room and furniture are very very old. I didn’t enjoy being there. Even if they update begging etc it would be already nicer. It doesn’t cost $300 per night.
Cafe is fine because the staff in cafe really cares about the food and guests even though the choice is very limited (pizza and chicken wings only), but again - the ladies in the cafe were very nice and caring!
- Maurice (4/5): - No heat, way too expensive for a poor room. Limited dining hours
- Sherri (8/5): Comfortable, excellent location. - The lobby of the lodge is under construction. The stone fireplace has been removed and the area is boarded up. This area could use more attention in cleaning. That said, The Stoney Creek Lodge is a diamond in the rough that with more TLC can become a real gem. The room was clean and bed was comfortable. Excellent location between the two parks. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Free WIFI too!
- Echo (8/5): No heat - The location of this lodge was the big win. It sits right between King’s Canyon and Sequoia. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. However, the heat in our room didn’t work! It was so cold and when we reported it, the employee said it would get looked at but when we got back after hiking, still no heat. A different employee said she would find a space heater….but never did. There was no apologies or offers to make it right. Another bummer was that we asked how late the restaurant was open and we were told 7 or 7:30, however when we got back after a day of hiking at 6 pm….it was already closed.
- James (10/5): - It was awesome
- Mark (4/5): - The fireplace was a construction zone, heater didn't work, and no TV. Plus cold breakfast, no decaf.
