- Oksana (10/5): - Es hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Ich bin zum zweiten Mal in diesem Hotel gewesen.Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und bei allen Angelegenheiten jeder Zeit hilfsbereit. Das Zimmer war sehr sauber, da hat die Zimmerservice ganz besonderen Lob verdient. Der Pool ist auch sehr schön und sauber. Die Lage ist sehr gut,in der Nähe vom Strand 2 Minuten zu Fuß. Ich muss sagen,dass auch die Zeit vom Nebenseason könnte ich genießen. Ich konnte mich gut entspannen und die Zeit genießen. Ich komme gerne wieder und kann das Hotel für Alleinreisende,Paare und Familien sehr empfehlen.

- Christine (7/5): Zweckmässig aber noch viel Luft nach oben - Das Personal ist zuvorkommend und freundlich. Das gebuchte Frühstück war sehr abwechslungsreich. Ich habe De Luxe Zimmer gebucht und Standard Zimmer bekommen. Diese waren zwar sauber aber von DeLuxe keine Spur. Die Eigentümer mit Familie wohnten nebenan und die Wäsche wurde am Poolbereich zum trocknen aufgehängt.

- Stephan (7/5): Nettes kleines Hotel in einzigartiger Strandlage. Am Strand hoteleigene Liegen vorhanden. - Tolle Lage, einzigartiger Strand, der Weg dorthin (hoteleigener Weg ca.50m) ein Erlebnis. Das Hotel hat einen ausgesprochenen Charme, allerdings etwas in die Jahre gekommen, es dürfte mal wieder etwas investiert werden. Andererseits auch recht preiswert! Das Frühstück ist wenig abwechslungsreich und nach einer Woche hat man den Eierschock! Es fehlt ein Müsli im Angebot.
- David (6/5): Lovely last stay mostly spent in the hotel next door sorry guys! - Our room was lovely and comfortable and was located on the beach The sunbed situation is bad they are mostly broken with only 4 umbrellas in use . There is a covered area but it is far back and all huddled together it’s horrible. We ended up paying to use the sunbeds in the Amal hotel next door as they had lovely beds and we ate there 4 out of 6 nights too! There is no ambience in the wunderbar restaurant and smoking is allowed which if you are a non smoker having people even at breakfast smoking is not for us. There is no smoking in the hotel restaurant next door and the food and music was so nice. You could easily change things to make it nicer wunderbar! You have lovely staff you just need a bit of TLC and a rethink . Our fridge was so old and rusty and the shower black mould which is easily removed with the right products .

The room itself is very spacious and has some good qualities, however the functioning of the hotel is very strange. Super loud disco music until 1am, rats or animals in the walls? The facilities are in dire need of care and attention. So many broken, old, tired elements around. Some staff were cheerful and wonderful though

Die Zimmer bieten alles was man braucht und tägliche Reinigung. Der Pool ist auch super. Das Badkonzept!Es ist immer überschwemmt und trocknet nie ganz auf Wirklich leise ist es wegen der Bahn und nahen Küstenstrasse auch nicht.
- BelKACEM (1/5): Expérience à oublier. - Malheureusement pas grand chose, à part la plage, mais ce n'est pas grâce à l'hôtel Nous avons passé deux nuits dans cet hôtel et honnêtement , j'aimerais pouvoir dire que c'était une expérience. " authentique". Si l'authenticité signifie une chambre sale, vétuste et une salle de bain qui semble sortie d'un musée des horreurs, alors oui, c'était très "local". L'odeur de moisissure était tellement présente qu'elle aurait mérité sa propre réservation. Tous nos vêtements en sont repartis parfumés " humidité stagnante" une fragrance que personne n'avait demandée. Le prix, lui, en revanche, était parfaitement moderne. Dommage que les chambres ne suivent pas la même logique. Les photos que je joins parleront mieux que moi : elles devraient être utilisées dans les manuels de formation rubrique " ce qu'il ne faut jamais faire". Et pour rester cohérent, le repas et le petit déjeuner étaient dans la même lignée.

We spent an amazing 23 nights at this hotel and it exceeded all our expectations. This is genuinely one of the few hotels in the area with its own private beach, and what makes it stand out even more is how well-maintained it is – the beach is cleaned daily, which is rare here and made every day feel perfect and relaxing. The room was cleaned thoroughly every single day, always spotless with fresh towels and everything in order. For such a long stay, the room itself was a big highlight: large, spacious, bright, and most importantly – very quiet. No noise from the road or the nearby railway, which allowed us to truly unwind. Breakfasts were outstanding – delicious variety, high quality, and they really took an individual approach to every guest, remembering preferences and making sure everything was just right. Every single staff member was wonderful: friendly, polite, attentive, and genuinely caring. You could feel the warmth and professionalism in every interaction. A special thank you to the owner/manager – when our flight was unexpectedly rescheduled, they kindly allowed us a late checkout until 21:00 with no extra charge at all. That kind of flexibility and understanding made our departure stress-free and left us with the best final impression. If you're looking for a peaceful, well-run beach hotel with excellent service for an extended stay, this place is highly recommended. We would happily return!

Some rooms are good, others are not maintained properly. Curtains, bed sheets with holes. Toilet seat came off, watertap damaged where you could easily cut yourself. ac is very old and loud.

- Elaine (7/5): Disappointed spent most time at hotel next door same price different world - The property is traditional Sri Lankan Colonial style and absolutely well placed. It is a beachside property and although there is a train track running through the gardens this did not impede our stay in any way. The staff were very friendly and the towels were changed every day, although we did have to ask for the sheets to be changed. The room was cleaned every day and water replenished. The pool was clean and the gardens are kept very neat. The fridge in the space behind the bedroom was in need of replacement as it was really very dirty. Fortunately we only used it for milk and water and canned drinks. The bathroom had no shaving mirror and the lighting was abysmal, only toiletries were hard soap and small shower gel so we had to buy our own as not enough for two people. The pool did not have enough space to accommodate all the guests and the beds were not dressed (mats and towels) unless you went in search of someone to do it. The beach bar was a disgrace, nothing set up no mats, towels or parasols set up.broken sun beds scattered around no form of order. The restaurant was a joke, we ate there the first night and I then had tummy issues and the food was just very average. There was no ambiance music more suited to a teenage disco banging out most of the time, breakfast was a farce, couldn’t even provide decent toast, the quality varied if the fruit and eggs one day cooked next day raw. No menu had to guess what was on offer. Ended up supplying our own breakfast and tea. Cold pancakes straight out of the fridge, really cheap bad quality spread and jam . Same price as hotel next door which was extremely well run, very inviting, very relaxing , very professional lots of waiting staff and nothing too much trouble. The waiting staff had been trained whereas in Wunderbar I doubt very much if they had been as none of them had a clue. They would stand around whilst you were waiting for service. General maintenance was very poor. The whole place needed to be renovated and repainted, whilst cleaning took place there was no deep cleaning going on so stirs up to restaurant for example did not have sides cleaned as that would need a dustpan and brush. Really by going to he hotel next door highlighted all the faults of our hotel. All the way from the entrance down to the beach. Their beach bars were amazing very comfortable chairs and tables immediate service and same price so no excuse for our hotel.

Good location, for beach and other restaurants nearby. Bed was very comfortable and a plug in mosquito repellant was supplied. He gala dinner on new years eve was included in the price which was a bonus. Should have had hairdryer in the room had to ask twice. The train line than ran adjacent to the property was really noisy, and is not mentioned in property description. It was only a 100 meters from our room but didn’t bother us too much. Some of the room towels are a bit delapidated. The points I made are minor but truthful.

- Joy (7/5): Good location for a trip Whale Watching. - We had a sea view from the balcony, looking at coconut hill and watched sunsets. Good breakfast and very good helpful staff. The room was quite small and there was a very busy road, right outside the hotel. We expected a lot more due to the cost being so high, the most we paid during our 26 days in Sri Lanka. More than the 5 * hotel we stayed in.

- Keith (4/5): Disappointing - Hotel well situated, close to a nice beach. Restaurant (both staff service and food) were excellent. The fixtures in the room were worn and dated - broken cabinets; ripped curtains. No flat screen TV or satellite channels in room, but addressed when I mentioned it. There was a private beach with sun loungers. The covers were all ripped and the beach towels had seen better days. There was supposed to be a beach bar but never seemed to be anyone serving. Fortunately there was a very good beach bar next door. The beach was clean as was the sea but the waves were quite strong - anyone with young kids would need to keep a paricular eye out for them. Overall, good location, great restaurant but fixtures in rooms and on beach need refurbishment.

- Sanja (8/5): Very, very nice - The location is perfect, almost at the beach, the rooms were very clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff was really helpful and the food was great. They made us non spicy versions of everything, too.. they even let us stay in our room until 9 p.m. when we had a ride back We were the only guests at the time, out of season, so they didn't bother to clean the beach. The train runs next to the hotel and we didn't see that written anywhere when we booked the room. My ear plugs helped me very much. Last two days there was a guy at the reception who didn't know the word in English. He didn't even understand our request to call someone that does.

That Amal Villa was next door as they did lovely food and drinks. Dilly the Tuk Tuk driver was very nice and friendly. Gardens and decor looked tired and in need of TLC. Breakfast was basic. That staff kept asking us whether we wanted a tour or boat trip whilst we were eating. Wifi only worked in the reception area. Ripped bedding. The beach facilities, broken sun loungers and parasols with ripped lounger cushions and the towels looked old as they were fraying. There were not enough sun loungers near the swimming pool for everyone to use. Unable to get a drink after 10pm

- Dorothy-anne (10/5): Lovely stay at Bentota Beach - Lovely natural surroundings with reception area with the best WIFI connection, 20m pool area, large restaurant and dining area with a lovely view of the beach in the distance with a spectacular view of the train track passing right in front of the restaurant. Well equipped comfortable, clean rooms with great AC and ceiling fans with balcony and hot water. Can’t go wrong with the lovely Sri Lankan staff to facilitate anything you need. Very quiet spot right on Bentota Beach with a long beach. You also have cushions and towels available on the beach loungers where you can also order drinks and food from the beach. If you want surfing or paramotrgliding it’s not far either, or of course the hotel can arrange a tuk-tuk for you to check out the local spots around town.

Rooms are large and kept clean and the staff do everything they can to help guests and make the stay a happy and memorable experience. The WiFi connection can be weak and only operates in the hotel lobby or the room balcony.

- Judith (8/5): A great week in an attractive beach hotel - The hotel is right beside the beach and sun loungers, parasols and towels are available. There is a decent pool. The food selection was good - we had half board and there was plenty of variety. We enjoyed the sight of the trains passing as we were eating. The railway line runs through the hotel gardens, but this is not too intrusive - there are not many trains, especially during the night. The staff are great - very friendly and helpful. The room was large and the bed was comfortable. The tours we took from the hotel were very interesting and enjoyable. The plumbing - especially the shower water pressure which was low. A minor issue. We would have preferred to seek out drivers and tour organisers rather than be approached all the time. Having said that, the service we got was good on the tours we chose.

- Alice (7/5): Good - Great location on the beach and a lovely swimming pool! The staff were SO nice especially the guys down at the beach who were always so friendly. The check in and out was seamless. The restaurant had a lovely view. There was no mattress protector - I did request one but they didn’t have it. The hotel itself was super outdated and needs some money invested into it - the bathroom was very old and hot. The grounds were very run down.

- Alex (7/5): Lovely beach, hotel in need of some TLC - Overall first impressions were favourable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The beach is wonderful and not at all busy (and there's a guard by the train track to check there are no trains coming before you cross). There is a beach bar and sun loungers/towels provided. There is a nice restaurant and the breakfast was good. The plants in the grounds are beautifully tended. There's a nice outdoor covered reading area. The hotel staff made a good effort to make New Year's eve nice, with beach dining, music and fireworks, which we appreciated. Tuk tuks are available for a ride into town. When we arrived, we were given the 2 worst rooms, suituated on the ground floor overlooking the car park, next to reception and next to the communal toilets, and felt very exposed. They were certainly not "super deluxe" rooms we had booked. The aircon didn't work and they spent ages fixing it for us. Luckily we were able to move to another room on the first floor the next day where, again, the air con didn't work and they fixed it. Our sheets had holes in. The rooms are very basic and need a deep clean. The facilities are the absolute bare minimum. The curtains are filthy (the rooms would benefit from black out curtains). The bathrooms are a bit mouldy and everything needs a good clean (toilet seat badly stained, mould in showers, sink plugs yucky, damp patches on walls). The shower door in our second room was almost impossible to open once closed, so we left it open. There are some outdoor areas which look faded and mouldy (we appreciate the climate is very humid which makes things difficult). The wifi is very unreliable and we gave up trying to use it. It was obvious the price had been bumped up for the time of our stay. Frankly we felt the rooms were vastly over-priced.

- Shalin (3/5): Dirty and overrated - Great location and staff was food. Also the food was food. Fair portions and the staff was really nice. Nice decoration in the room. When I arrived the room was not ready. Within few minutes they made it available. BUT the rooms that were given was sh*t. Literally one of the crappiest hotels I have ever been. Wonder where they get good comments. The room was not properly ready, was very dusty, no TV available, the plugs are difderent. Washroom was very old and clogged. Dirty furniture and beds. No TV coverage and worn off and damaged washrooms. Very dirty pool, slimy and made me, my dad and my wifey very itchy and the water was dirty(can be very clearly seen when the pool lights are on) pool floor was slippery which is a clear indication that the pool is not cleaned.. No uniform for the staff so you dont even know who works and who isn't. Damaged and very very old AC units which is a hazzard. Lot of bugs both inside and out. No proper control measures taken. The hotel is not maintained at all. Lot of safety hazards.

- Richard (8/5): I really enjoyed staying here and considered it a great half way house between Colombo and Galle. Would definitely visit - A very homely family hotel well located just 100m to the beach. Great dining room in a 1st floor restaurant surrounded by an ornate timber balustrade and vaulted ceiling. Excellent choice of food and drinks all at reasonable prices served by exceptional staff. Great breakfast. The train line passed between the restaurant and beach which provided an exciting and enjoyable experience each time it occurred. There was a temporary Wi-Fi glitch but this was quickly rectified.

- Amanda (4/5): If you are looking for a quite escape this is the place - The beaches are the best, it's super quite and relaxing and it feels like your own tropical private paradise The swimming pool was dirty, I'm guessing it hasn't been clean in months. The receptionist who was at the front desk, was distant and uninterested in talking or helping out, I only saw her for check in and then she disappeared, there was no customer service. The hotel was deserted, but the hotel next door was packed....
- India (1/5): Theft from room, very tired and rundown, one to avoid at all costs! - The hotel is very tired - the photos are out if date and make it look a lot nicer than it is. We had an ants infestation in the bathroom of our first room and then we had a theft from our second room. To top it off, when I politely told the manager that something had gone missing he shouted in my face in an aggressive manner and told me to check my bag again.

He is an asset to this hotel. Passengers train going through the compound day and night. Yes you have heard it correctly. No do not disturb sign so get knocked regularly by staff to check if you had ordered beer etc... Set this aside the beach is excellent, however very dirty which was a put off. Would i return no.

Breakfast was very good and SuzieLee was an excellent waiter. Unfortunately dinner wasn’t particularly good and it’s a little way into town.
- Christine (10/5): - My daughter and I had a great week at Wunderbar Hotel and decided to spend a few more days because we loved the beach and setting so much. The staff was extremely helpful, arranged pretravel Covid testing, and airportbtransfer for us. We always felt safe on the beach and property, there was a staff member on duty at the beach every day, and plenty of lounge chairs, beach towels and umbrellas to stay comfortable. I would definitely return!
