Guest Reviews
- Judy (10/5): - We were greeted warmly by the day manager as our boat arrived. She told us we were being given an upgrade with a lovely ocean view. They went out of their way to help us including a very early breakfast before leaving for an overnight stay at La Sirena. Really appreciated the extra help.
- Paula Sophie (8/5): - Service Staff were very helpful with everything!
- Janina (10/5): Could not be better - The staff was helpful, warm and kind. The room was stunning. Wrap around windows, including the bathroom shower. Views of the ocean and up the hill into the trees. We regularly watched pairs of macaws fly in front of us. Immaculately clean. The coffee and yogurt served in the dining hall were unusually tasty.
I highly recommend staying here if you go to Osa. Ask for room 3! Many of the tours depart from here, and it's the closest to the supermarket and laundry.
Be aware that the rooms are very small with little storage space. However, if you came by plane - you likely only have a backpack anyway. Also it is hard to find the main office.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - We loved the location in the view. I realize this was off-season, but their restaurant was not open. Neither was their bar and we did not have any notice of that. Also, one morning the Cook did not show up so we missed the included breakfast. The room was clean And I would stay there again, but just be aware that all services may not be available. The manager was very helpful getting us taxi back-and-forth to the airport.
- Daniel (8/5): - Fantastiskt vackert, enda negativa är att det bara var ett duschdraperi in till toaletten.
Annars mycket bra och fantastisk frukost!
- Karen (10/5): Super friendly staff - Brief one night stay. The people were all so friendly and helpful.
- Bo (10/5): Fantastisk utsikt - Mycket trevlig personal. Fantastisk utsikt och 4-bäddsrummen var väldigt fina.
- Carol (10/5): - It was a nice place and staff was great. I recommend fixing the driveway. It's a bit rough right as you enter their parking area.
- Theo (10/5): A great stay - Very nice -place and very friendly people and a great location.
- Pamela (10/5): - Mila was exceptional & always greeted us with a warm friendly smile. She helped accommodate us as a family member was sick. Mila also went out of her way to help me celebrate my birthday
We stayed at the very top of the property which was amazing but not for those who are elderly or struggle with a step climb.
- Ken (10/5): - Staff was very very nice - breakfast was awesome! Road to the town and area was a challenge! Overall would stay again!
- Catherine (10/5): - Convenient. Great dinner.
- David (8/5): - Excellent property with good breakfasts. We preferred to walk into the high street and eat at a restaurant there.
- erika (10/5): - Highly recommend this place. Beautiful view and surrounding grounds. Dining available do no need to leave other than to explore
- Chester (10/5): A room in Paradise - All in all a beautiful hotel on a beautiful beach! A short walk from Drake Bay and many dining options. The complimentary breakfast with an ocean view with traditional Gallo Pinto was delightful, though the dinner was a little disappointing for the price. My only real criticism would be the annoying noise from their building projects.
- Brant (10/5): - The hotel has a beautiful settling on the beach in a private settling. The staff was very attentive making sure that various arrangements were coordinated.
- farhad (10/5): Comfortable hotel - The room and bathroom were really nice and comfortable considering the situation in drake bay. It is very close to drake bay port. We really liked our stay here.
- Teresita (2/5): Think twice - Good food.
Arriving there is really far and the street is bad street.
Hotel is not comfortable.
- Erika (10/5): - We were very happy with the service we had and the helpful staff. We were right on the beach. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to Drake Bay.
- Maarten (6/5): Overpriced hotel, location perfect - Great location, rooms were clean but small and old fashioned. Electric shower head with loose wires. Price compared to rest of Costa Rica overpriced. Location was great however, close to the beach and start of tours to Corcovado. We paid around 100 euros a night for a standard room. You have to take some stairs for some rooms up hill so keep that in mind.
- Hellen (2/5): - Parece q ni la escoba usaron en la habitación
- Nazanin (10/5): - Drake bay is a small village like area where most people visit to enjoy yours to Corcovado national park or other activities.
There are some super upscale hotels too but I was not there to pamper myself.
This hotel offers everything you need for your stay, staff are friends. Breakfast was included as part our stay. Rooms were clean and maintained nicely but nothing fancy.
There are no elevators and only steps so be ready for a work out, but tHe view from your your is the your reward. It was breathtaking.
The macaw bird was eating fruits from our hotels tree. We just sat in the restaurant area and they were there.
- Stanley (10/5): - Amazing experience
Beautiful property
Friendly staff
Clean rooms
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our view from the shared balcony was spectacular! The ocean, harbor, and birds..
- Verified traveler (2/5): Go elsewhere - Save your money and book somewhere else. Rancho Corcovado is not worth the price tag. During our stay there was no electricity which meant no hot water and no air conditioning. There was no attempt by management to apologize or correct this, and I paid extra for a room with ac. The rooms themselves are basic. No shampoo. No amenities. Our bed was uncomfortable and had ripped sheets. The shower head had exposed wires. The hotel itself is under construction which means it is loud during the day. At night dogs bark incessantly.
There are plenty of nicer places in drake bay to stay for less money. I would strongly suggest one of those. I felt scammed at this place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location and hotel but noisy - Great hotel and area but apparently it is a pickup and drop off place for many tours so it’s often very loud starting at 6am and in the afternoon.
- Katia (8/5): on the beach - perfect family owned hotel on the beach. clean, spacious, modern rooms ("deluxe" type) with a/c, hot water, ocean front balconies, not many toiletries, bring your own, bring your own hair dryer. food was ok: they serve you breakfast and dinner. you don't have a choice, town is very small and people eat at their hotels. lunch is not great: I went to 2 excursions: they serve you same lunch on the way back in San Josecito beach, which is stunning, but both days I was served same basic lunch and there s no place to sit down : very few picnic tables on the beach. very uncomfortable when I was asked to stand up from my seat to give it to next tour group. otherwise, surroundings are stunning, owner/staff is so very helpful, and tour guides were great. (except night tour with "Elbert" : was not told there were tons and tons of unsecured stairs, better said: bricks that serve as stairs, they need to disclose this. I have a knee injury and need to be careful with that many stairs. Tour guide was not helpful either: we were only 4, but did not offer any help or care when I was left behind. I fell into a mud area and laughed, not with me but at me. I know the difference. on the way back, he wanted to drop me off one block away from hotel: at night it is super dark and has steep decline. I felt he was a poor quality guide. don't take his tour please! ask for another guide.). Finally, I would suggest to include local food specialties, not western food.
- JUAN (4/5): Cabina - Por el precio no refleja las condiciones adecuadas del hospedaje es muy austero, muy humilde y pequeño. Tipo cabina.
- Colin (8/5): Great for anyone wanting to visit Drake Bay, Osa. - We found the steps up to our room a bit too much, but we are over 70. But a great location for jungle and water sports and walks.
- Ellen (8/5): Drake Bay beauty - The Rancho Corcovado Lodge..like all Drake Bay hotels is off the beaten path and more easily reached by water taxi than by land. Roger, the host is hardworking and accomodating. The included breakfast was very good and complete daily dinners are available for a reasonable price. Our room was clean, spacious and included a/c that worked well. Make sure you ask for a/c if you want it. The beach is fantastic and our Divine Dolphin tour pucked us up out front.. Great Costa Rica experience.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel family run, with friendly staff. - Enjoyed our three nights there.
Made to feel welcome. Organised tours for us.
- sue (10/5): Beautiful accomadations - A rainy day did not spoil our 2 night stay even though the weather cancelled our scheduled hike. Instead enjoyed the beautifully landscaped grounds, pool and nice restaurant. Be sure to walk down the hill to the river and be surprised by both Howler and White faced monkeys. The staff were very attentive and kind. We would return again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice and on the beach - Nice hotel with their own tours. This place is nice but you don´t get what you see in the pictures at Hotels.com. My room was very ascetic and I ended up having to pay extra to get some sort of standard. But it was a nice family run cozy place that I enjoyed. No internet in the rooms.
- 54yrAdventurer (6/5): Great location and view - Roger the manager on site was nice and fairly helpful, but stretched too far. He seemed to be the only English speaking staff member and was in charge of everything. Lines often formed at his office. Corcovado excursion was great with a fantastic guide Carlos. Our room was at the top of dozens of stairs so it had a great view once we cooled off from the very hot and humid December weather. AC would have been worth the money if available at time of booking. It was considerably hotter than previous trip in September. Overall nice stay but uncomfortable warm and humid for us North Americans.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Rustic - Nice place. The cabins were pretty basic, and some of them (the non A/C) are up hill.
There's an option for full lodge (including lunch and dinner) which can be useful since Drake is such a small town.
Make sure you figure out how to arrive to the location (the hotel can coordinate a pick-up boat in Sierpe)
- Amy L (10/5): Fabulous Family Lodging! - Our family of five had a wonderful experience at the Rancho Corcovado lodge! Our children are ages 7,8,and 10. We found the entire property to be well suited for families with small children. Rancho Corcovado has an amazing history and is entirely family owned and operated.
The lodge seems to be one of the few hotels in Drake that has direct access to bay with a very safe beach for the children. My husband and I were able to enjoy a glass of wine every evening in front of the lodge while the children played on the beach and in the water, or enjoyed one of the many hammocks available.
The rooms are sparse but well maintained and VERY clean. We had everything we needed to feel comfortable. The landscaping of the grounds allowed us to be completely emersed in nature when we weren't taking tours. We enjoyed the large variety of birds, lizarards, butterflies, bats, and insects that surrounded the property.
The meals provided were amazing, home made, authentically Costa Rican, and child friendly. The service exceded our expectations, especially when it came to the needs of a family with young children.
I can not reccomend highly enough.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Close to beach, great location, - 78 steps up to the room...don't forget anything or lock yourself out. Very convenient to town, nice hike uphill to town though...I think I lost weight. Wish they had a bar or casual food. Breakfast rice and beans always was a bit crunchy...like left over from last night. Location AWESOME!!
- Jack (8/5): Basic hotel with great views and friendly staff - The staff at Rancho Corcovado made the stay an enjoyable one.
The food was amazing and the fact that food is included in the price makes it affordable.
The views to the beach was amazing
- Amy (8/5): We had a wonderful stay! - Rancho Corcovado is set in a stunningly beautiful environment in Drake's Bay. The manager, Roger, and all of his staff are exceptionally warm, helpful and accomodating. The rooms are spartan but clean. Recommended!
- Bernt Yngve (8/5): A great stay at Rancho Corcovado - I had a great stay at Rancho Corcovado. Roger and his staff was very friendly and helpful. The view from the porch of my room was very nice. The food served at the hotel was very good. I would absolutely recommend Rancho Corcovado to all visit Bahia Drake.
