Guest Reviews
- Mohd Razi (8/5): A just comfortable place to sleep - I think I booked for a bigger room but was given a standard (cheaper) room. It was for 1 night, so I didn't bother. Surrounding was nice, and very near to eatery and shopping. No shoes inside, NO TV, and no coffee/tea maker in room. We need to walk down to the common pantry to make coffee or noodles. Main door closed after 10pm and opened at 8am. No security.
- rosie (10/5): - Great location. friendly and helpful staff. clean hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice decoration. Bed is comfort too
- Verified traveler (6/5): ok stay - The house is beautiful. Although the room we stayed in was wet and mouldy. Our clothes and the towels were moist. Part of the staff was very friendly, the other part not so much. breakfast was simple but good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff were very welcoming and made things very easy for us. We made a lot of requests from extra blankets to bus tickets and they were able to meet our needs. The light breakfast also made our packed days easier to handle. The property is in a quieter part of the town, which makes seeping much easier. The location is also close to many good food spots, including Singh Chapati (this is probably the best spot in the area). The front desk is open till 10pm so please keep that in mind if you plan to check in any later than that.
- Juergen (4/5): Nicht zu empfehlen - Sehr unfreundliches Personal. Alles schon ziemlich alt
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location with lot of restaurants and shops nearby. Clean and spacious rooms with balcony.
One thing i didn't like was that the bedsheets get cold because of the cold humid conditions. Probably should get some warm sheets.
- Paolo (6/5): Fairly good but in need of improvements - We stayed in this guesthouse for three nights and were just about happy with our accommodation. The location is good, just off the main streets of Tanah Rata, which is basically a quiet village in the Cameron Highlands although it is the biggest hub there. The whole place look nice, very clean and we also slept well and that was another plus. But ... it could be a jewel but fails to deliver on a few fronts ... showers were hot but really weak and water in the basin was only cold so that was annoying. There is no TV in the rooms. Breakfast options were also quite limited and there was no flexibility to get it outside their 8 to 10am time (ie nothing was provided in the day we left at 7am) and you would expect a little more flexibility by a guesthouse. To be fair I could not see better accommodations in the vicinity but I was expecting a little bit come comfort
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bo provlem
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good hotel. Friendly staff. Located a bit on the outskirts.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Très bon emplacement. Cafe et the à volonters. Petit déjeuner minimaliste.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet and comfortable room overlooking a beautiful garden. Arundina is a well kept guesthouse that is easy walking distance from the Main Street and bus station. We really enjoyed our stay there.
- Lionel (10/5): Lovely guest house - Small quiet guest house in great location close to bus terminal station (700m), restaurants. Property is clean and well maintained. Possibility to enjoy a small breakfast (toasts, jam, banana & cereals) on location or to get a voucher for a breakfast with eggs in a close by restaurant. Well done!
- Adrian (10/5): quiet, tranquil place, surrounded by forest - Very quiet, tranquil place, surrounded by forest on 3 sides, but still only 300 meters from the main road. While there are bright streetlamps on the road to the property, if you get a room with windows facing the forest, you can enjoy fresh forest air when sleeping with open windows, while still having good darkness for sleep using the curtains. Comfortable mattress. Shoes have to be taken off before entering the building, but can be carried into the room or stored outside.
No refrigerator or kettle in the room. The rules prohibit use of electrical appliances in the room other then phone, camera, laptop, hairdryer and "other usual personal appliances", which is a bit vague, because who is to define if for example a kettle or rice cooker is a "usual personal appliance" or not?
Good water flow in the shower, water heater works well, warm water. My room (Deluxe Triple Room) had a (North-facing) balcony, great for having coffee and working on a laptop, the chairs are comfortable and also there is an ergonomic height counter in the room you can work at. Maxis LTE mobile Internet speeds reach 65 Mbps. Reception open 08:00-22:00. Parking space in front for about 7 cars.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, best, comfort environment, cheap hotel
- Florence SC (10/5): Quiet retreat - Lovely, quiet Guesthouse. Clean, well maintained and close to many food options and other basic services in the small town centre of Tanah Rata. Staff were friendly and willing to chat. Guesthouse is not fancy but I like it simple, fuss-free and back-to-basics, and still comfortable and cosy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location
Very comfortable bed
Super clean
Reception staff was a bit cold
- Sophie (8/5): Good value but simple stay in the highlands! - Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Arundina. It seems like the majority of hotels in the Cameron Highlands (judging by reviews and what we saw) are not in great shape so all things considered, we were happy with our stay.
Pros:
- great location, very close to restaurants, bars etc but is away from the busy main road
- friendly staff who were welcoming and helped us to book a taxi for 25 ringgit/hour for 3 hrs to see main attractions in the area - much cheaper than private tours!! Would recommend
- good value for money
- you can either eat the simple breakfast at the guest house (toast, spreads) or get a free voucher to get a cooked breakfast at the Mossy Forest cafe in town (can also upgrade to other options v cheap too)
Cons:
- the corridors are very noisy depending on who your neighbours are! We were woken very early in the morning
- the room is damp even when you use the fan and leave window open but this is largely unavoidable in CH unless you have air con/dehumidifier due to high humidity
- we were quite cold in the night so bring layers!! There is no heater in the room
- elsbeth (8/5): Hotel in Tanah Rata - Zentrale Lage, Food Center in der Nähe, saubere Zimmer.
- Verified traveler (6/5): einfach - hellhörige Zimmer - gruselige Nacht - Frühstück erst ab 9:00 -
- Marion (8/5): Green retreat in Tanah Rata - Cosy, nice guesthouse located a bit off the main road but still close to everything. Quietly located in a beautiful garden. Great value for money. Highly recommend
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- john (6/5): Good location but poor amenities - Well located but amenities not sufficient. Although it’s a guest house but facilities and amenities is much lesser than most of the homestay I stayed before. Staff is not very friendly during check in but some others were ok and helpful. The room is without TV. Bring all the necessity if you plan to stay here
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Awesome location, my only complaint is that you can’t control the speed of the fans unless you get a remote from the front desk. Otherwise it’s hurricane force wind or nothing are your only options.
- Diamylatou (6/5): Could be better, but nice - The room is really humid, So the room was cold and smelly. And the breakfast is limited
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good value and location for Cameron Highlands - Stayed for two nights when visiting the Cameron Highlands.
Good value for budget accommodation.
Room was clean, staff not particularly friendly and breakfast is simple but overall everything is okay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice guesthouse but smelly room - I have very mixed feelings regarding Arundina - on the one hand it is a very clean guesthouse in a good and quiet location for an okay price in the Cameron Highlands, where prices for accommodations are generally higher than in the rest of Malaysia it seems. Also most of the staff was friendly and helpful and there was a small breakfast, which I didn't expect. However the smell of mould (this is NOT how the jungle smells) in the room is extreme - all our luggage smells like this now and I had a hard time breathing. Opening the windows just brought a short relief.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location of Hotel is great! It is only two walking minutes away from the main road and restaurants and therefore very quiet with a nice little garden wehre you can relax. Walter, coffee and tee are available anytime and the breakfast is absolutely sufficient. We really enjoyed our calm stay therefore!
- yingsane (8/5): Homely guesthouse - Arundina strives to provide a comfortable place for the guests. There's daily Housekeeping but bedsheets will not be changed for environment purpose I presumed. Simple breakfast provided. Only con will be that there is no TV in the room.
- Kenneth (10/5): Cozy Stay at Cameron Highlands - Staff is really friendly. Area is well cleaned. Has a nice cozy resting area and well-decorated.
- Annie (8/5): - Front desk lady not so friendly. Show face to kids
- Fahrul (10/5): - Beats staying at most other hotels.. cosy room and felt a whole lot how you'd want your own home to feel like
- Ching Li (10/5): Cosy guesthouse - 2nd time staying in Arundina. Lovely cosy guesthouse tuck in a corner of tanah rata away from the crowds n traffic, yet short walk from good food n trekking trails. Warm n hospitable receptionist ( Rose). Clean spacious rooms. My accommodation of choice in tanah rata.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasant stay - Convenient location in Tanah Rata with pleasant and helpful staff.
- Aftus (8/5): Close to the town and very quiet. - worth every ringgit spent at this guest house. friendly staff and clean room. the only setback is just that the room is not occupied with a tv (which you can watch it at the common area).
- Ian (8/5): Close to the centre - The hotel was situated close to the town in a quiet, pretty location. The hotel had a beautiful garden to sit in. The half day mossy tour booked through the hotel was brilliant.
- Verified traveler (8/5): 2 night stay in Arundina - Nice helpful guesthouse with clean rooms. Was disappointed as had requested a twin room, none were available, but no contact was made advising of that.
- SJ (10/5): Secluded hotel away from the town - Peaceful and secluded, hotel is one street away from the main town. But still walking distance from restaurants. Room is clean and nicely done up. Blanket is thick enough to keep warm.
- Min (6/5): Good location - Good location. Walking distance to shops.
The Indian receptionist is not friendly.
- George (10/5): Great quiet hotel close to town - Hotel was tucked away in a small nook just 7 mins walk from tanah rata town area. Very cozy and homely.
Just didn't like the hollow walls and we had to whisper everytime we spoke in the room as we had the feeling every single sound can be heard throughout the whole hotel. Even footsteps and normal chatter can be heard quite clearly from our room on the second floor. But the rooms are well kept and the surroundings are spotless and tidy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly guest house - Small guesthouse very close to centre of Tanah Rata . Free private parking. Room quite small but clean and tidy. Staff very pleasant. Complimentary tea/coffee making facilities in lounge and complimentary light breakfast (cereal, fruit, toast, tea/coffee). Garden area well looked after with attractive display of flowering plants.
- David (10/5): Clean & Quiet - A nice place for anyone looking for some peace and quiet. The rooms are clean; several have views of the gardens and trees. Not much of a breakfast selection (basic cereal, toast, coffee/tea and a banana) but plenty of cafes are within a block or two. Staff members are friendly and helpful and can arrange tours and transport. No air conditioning, but it's rarely needed in the highlands. Fresh air from the window is all that most folks need.
- Su (10/5): Wonderful, quite place with lovely staff - Stayed three nights and enjoyed a lot. Rose and Hini are lovely and take care of their guests. Deluxe Room with balcony was bright and spacious, really nothing to complain about except one little thing: Water pressure is quite low so washing long hair takes time. But this is nothing I would complain about too much. Breakfast is basic but ok and hey, it's complimentary: Toast, jam, peanutbutter, fesh frui. coffee, tea and water all day free. Would definitely come back!
- Debbie (10/5): Beautiful!! - Favourite place I stayed in my 11 day trip in Malaysia. Beautiful garden, new and clean, close to town and everything you need, nice basic breakfast and tea on tap! Staff were friendly and very helpful. The outlook from our room was beautiful and they were styling a room for a honeymoon couple which was awesome.
No TV in our room which didn't bother me and they have a TV room downstairs.
- Charlene (4/5): Just okay - The counter lady didn't smile at all. She looed unfriendly. The room has mouldy smells.
We were disappointed that when we checked in, we were told that the room we booked was taken up by the earlier customer. We wanted twin beds.
The surroundings is nice.
- Lubin (8/5): Very nice hotel and very nice people. - My stay is Cameron Highlands was worthy because of the hotel and the kindness of the people in Arundina. Very nice and clean hotel and very friendly staff.
- Amber (6/5): Convenient, clean but not friendly - The place is well located and in a good state however it was rather unwelcoming due to the staff. Two were pleasant but one who we saw most, blanked us entirely. It was strange to have her actively try not to engage wth us. Room also not as booked. On the whole it was a good option although rooms were quite damp feeling, not sure if that's a highlands thing or specific to this guest house. Views blocked by Hill View guest house in front.
- Diane (6/5): Adequate - Arundina is a guest house not a hotel and states this on a card in the room. As such the rooms and facilities are minimal. There is no TV, bedside lights, tea & coffee, hairdryer etc in the room. However, tea and coffee is available any time in the foyer and a hairdryer is available if you ask and an adaptor for the plugs. Breakfast is basic: cornflakes, a banana, toast and jam. No fresh coffee or juice.
We had the biggest room (deluxe triple) as we needed two separate beds so it wasn't cheap. It is clean and handy to town and the bus station.
- Magdalene (4/5): Simple comforts - Seemed overpriced for what we got: a basic, simple room. Clean and comfortable enough with toast and coffee/tea/juice for breakfast. Friendly staff. Nice that it was tucked away from the busy street. Not much else to it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): great stay! - I was impressed with the overall experience there. The staff were great and very helpful. The area was convenient to walk to all the places of interest in town, yet away from the hustle of town life.
- David (8/5): Immaculate nutural feeling hotel. - Only had one night in Cameron Highlands, but would stay in this hotel if I went back to Tanah Rata, only for longer next time.
Owner gave us free CH fridge magnet on check out which was nice token.
- Richard (10/5): A peaceful haven in Tanah Data. - We booked for two nights and were delighted with this guesthouse. Everything is perfect and clean, lovely gardens, a real credit to the owner. Three hundred metres from the centre of town, so easy to get around.
It is a Guesthouse so probably not suit everyone, no tv and no teamaking in the room. But tea and coffee is free and laid on at the breakfast area. We are so grateful we found this haven.
- Gail (8/5): thumbs up! - It was a pleasant and comfortable stay at Arundina. Simple but clean environment and room, very peaceful and well-kept garden grounds. The hotel itself has a lobby/lounge where guests can relax on comfortable chairs/sofa. Looks like a cool cafe and a good place to chill out.
There is a complimentary breakfast of toast with jam/butter, cereal w milk, and fruits, which was hearty enough. The jam and peanut butter are really good!
The receptionist Mr Das was helpful and informative about things to do in the area, he also helped us to call and book day tours with the local agencies.
Arundina is situated a little off the main road, so its surroundings are quite peaceful actually. The shops and eateries are just a 5 minute walk away, very convenient.
- Elaine (10/5): This Made Our Holiday Amazing - Arundina was the best place to come home to after our 5 hour long treks in the hills, jungles and tea estates. It's cosy, service is good, location is great.
The bed is seriously comfortable! However I think the pillows were slightly too thick for my liking.
The cool night air from the surrounding gardens and forest (we left the Windows slight ajar) was absolutely refreshing! However, mosquitoes came in at night, and when we told them the next day, the friendly receptionist gave us an electronic mosquito repellent and the remote control for the fan (they advised us to put the fan on at low speed, which was an excellent solution.) problem solved.
They give good advice on eateries and trekking routes, are always there to help and were always friendly.
I highly recommend Arundina because a lot of other places are in noisier neighbourhoods, with construction and traffic being the main issues. Yes, Cameron highlands is ironically turning into a noisy pseudo-urbanized town with gigantic hotels in the next town (Brinchang). Arundina is in Tanah Rata,in a secluded spot, yet a stone's throw away from delicious simple restaurants like Mayflower and Kumar.
Tip: Ask for the rooms facing the garden/forest.
- Marcus (8/5): Nice guest house - Nice guest house. They say they are not a hotel but you are a guest in their house. fair enough. Free wifi which is intermittent but apparently that is the region not the hotel. you need to take your shoes off in the hotel. Nice place, not too far from village, look for the sign on the road as it's behind another hotel. Follow google maps. Nice stay.
- Neesha (10/5): Clean and friendly guesthouse - A spotlessly clean, modern and comfortable guest house. Characterful and with helpful and friendly staff. Location is just a couple of mins away from the shops restaurants and tour agents in Tanah Rata.
- Jack (6/5): Small room hotel nice location - The room was very small and the bathroom floor was wet because the shower curtain wasn't long enough. But cozy guesthouse with friendly staff.
- Patricia (10/5): Lovely, relaxing place with helpful staff - Apparently we were there in the dry season but I want to emphasize the room was fresh and there was no mold or mildew smell as reported by others. It was also kept quite cool with the ceiling fan so no a/c necessary. (You don't need the remote for the fan, there is a wall switch.)
They don't do breakfast, but make you toast, and have cereal, coffee, tea, fruit and juice each morning.
Rooms that do not have private balconies have access to a shared balcony on each floor as well as the garden and veranda. The hotel has beer and soft drinks for the guests at a very reasonable price.
The staff is wonderful and the place is well-appointed and immaculate. We took a tour of the tea plantations with a taxi driver known to the hotel, Joe, who was a great guide and driver, a lifetime resident of Tanah Rata.
We also had the hotel book a Kang travel minivan to take us to Georgetown. Despite scary reviews on the internet we found our driver to be an excellent driver who knew every bump in the road and was fast, but cautious and thoughtful. As a bonus he took us directly to our hotel in George Town at no extra charge. I recommend them.
I would return any time and highly recommend it to everyone.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Loved it - It was great! The people were super friendly, it was quite quiet, the surroundings and facilities were absolutely lovely. The bedding felt a little bit damp the whole time we were there, but that's apparently the norm for the area and there's not much you or they can do about it.
- Natalie (8/5): Great guesthouse for exploring Cameron Highlands - I choose the Arundina for a two-night visit to the Cameron Highlands on the strength of so many good reviews and it lived up to expectations.
Great location for exploring the shops and restaurants of Tanah Rata, just five minutes walk away, and the guesthouse can also book tours of the Cameron Highlands and transfers to your next destination too.
The owners are very friendly, helpful and also offer services such as laundry for a small cost.
I would highly recommend the Arundina for any visit to the Cameron Highlands.
- Rokhanom (10/5): Harmony with Nature Guesthouse - Nice and clean but no TV.
- Jantzen (8/5): Homely atmosphere - This small guest-house is well maintained and gives a homely atmosphere for a family gathering. Beautifully decorated inside and a nice garden around the main building. It's walking distance to shops in Tanah Rata town area
- Manja (8/5): Nice Abode Surrounded by Nature - It was just a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of KL. The location was walking distance from tanah rata. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff were friendly and good. My only disdain would be a screaming child in the neighbours room at 5 am. Otherwise, it was good. Breakfast was simple but sufficient.
- Jeffrey (8/5): Fun - Campfire should be allowed until late night
- Subroto (8/5): A pleasant stay in Arundina - It was a very pleasant and wonderful stay in Arundina. Surrounded by mountains, gardens the view was really good. Luckily the weather was very cool and that added to the fun. Free breakfast, nice collection of book and well behaved staffs ... I would definitely like to be there again. A peaceful place to relax.
- Gwee (8/5): Cleanliness of room/hotel Quality of service - The rooom/hotel is clean & comfortable.
The quality of service is good.
- Ella (10/5): Excellent Guesthouse - Very nice Guesthouse with beautiful gardens, an ideal place to stay. The excellent Manager Sabaan was happy to advise which attractions to visit and where to eat for the best local food. Will definitely stay at the Arundina Cameron on my next visit to Cameron Highlands.
- Magda (8/5): - The Guest House is new.Every day the nice staff cleans it, so it is spiracled clean. The breakfast us sinmple some toast, jam, peanat butter, cornflakes and fruit, but it is good start of a day.
The staff is pleasent and helpful. They can arrange you a tour or a bus to another place you want to go. We stayed in room 202. The room was nice, clean, the bed was comfertable.
