Lesley (8/5): Good value for money, great food and a good location - Breakfast was good although they need to remove danish pastries and croissants from the breakfast menu as these are not available. Dinner was very good. Great menu and all the food we had was great. Very comfortable bed and pillow. Tea and coffee making facilities. We stayed in room 15. The bed was very comfortable and facilities were good however there was a strange noise coming from the heating system which was annoying. The radiator wasn't on but the noise seemed to be boiler or heater related. Also, the bathroom door handle needs replacing as its broken which we did mention to the staff Otherwise all was good.

Lynn (8/5): We had a good stay and would go there again - The room was cosy, the breakfasts were very good, my husband thought the full English breakfast was excellent and I really enjoyed the poached eggs with avocado on toast and the homemade granola. The pub is in the very picturesque village of Montacute, lovely to look out at the warm stone buildings and just a short walk to the National Trust Montacute House. As I am autistic with sensory issues I didn't like that there was a fixed shower head, I find showering difficult at the best of times but I can't use a shower with a fixed head. There were only 2 vegetarian meals on the dinner menu. Parking was a bit of a lottery as there weren't many spaces, from our room we watched as cars tried to get in the car park but had to reverse back down as it was full. Luckily for us we got a space.

John (9/5): Very enjoyable - Lunch and Dinner were enjoyable, tasty, good value. My companion said she would like to eat there again. Despite a crowd in the area downstairs the bedroom was quiet, which is not often the case in pub accommodation. The views from the bedroom window were inspiring. Others have noted that the bedroom furniture is a bit ad-hoc and aged. With only one chair, the bed in the room I had is quite high, so two short people sharing would struggle to sit down. If working it would be useful to have a clear uncluttered desk or table at an appropriate height. When the area downstairs was packed with people using the free guest wifi it ceased operating in the bedrooms... a dedicated wifi address for hotel guests would be a real benefit since 4G does not work effectively either (I tried two different ISPs).
Alex (8/5): Great place for a weekend in the West Country - Great location of authentic inn, just next door to Montacute House (amazing) in picturesque village, nestled in some beautiful if hilly countryside … Great food and brilliant staff who bent over backwards to make it a good stay and were really relaxed when our family descended on the pub! Nice beer garden too The rooms are a little shabby but perfectly comfortable

The staff were friendly and helpful No wardrobes in both rooms 2 or 5 and just hooks on the wall and a couple of coat hangers. Bathroom light switch worked intermittently.

There wasn't much choice for a continental breakfast so I had a cooked breakfast which was nice. The room was shocking especially after walking through the pub, The shower was old dirty and mouldy but I had to use it, The rocked about and you could hear the springs, lots of noise from adjoining rooms, It is dog friendly but it really needs painting and redecorating. No wardrobe in the room but some hangers on the wall which is fine. but even the hangers were wire.The carpets were smelly and dirty and in complete contrast the pub which is lovely.

Quiet, pretty grounds and views. Very quaint village and near main links. Mattress was a bit lumpy but I still had a good night’s sleep.

We are not dog lovers and so our enjoyment of our evening meal was spoiled by the frequent outbreaks of dogs barking and snarling at each other in the very adjacent dining area.

Could hear neighbours having showers and blown their noses. You could hear people outside the rooms outside. The shower head was pretty poor and our room only twice that we noticed bed was made and sheets bath towels changed.

Louise Micklewhite (8/5): Lovely location - Gorgeous pub with rooms in a beautiful village. Staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious. The bed was comfortable and we slept well in our twin room. Lovely fresh bedlinen. Gorgeous 15 minute walk up the private lane beside the pub. Convenient parking behind the pub, some have complained that it is narrow and steep but I had no issues with my big car. The room and staircase carpet were very 'tired'. The room just needs a refresh.
Jessica (9/5): Love it and I keep coming back! - Charming cosy friendly. Great location. Think they can give the liquid soap bottles a miss. The hand soap is fine and the mini liquid bottles are less environmentally friendly.
HILL (7/5): Great place for one nights stay for work. - Beautiful building, fantastic location and the staff were so pleasant and helpful. The Bathroom was very dated. The flooring is in desperate need for replacing. The water pump for the shower is extremely noisy. Light fittings were exposed in the bathroom, I would have thought they need to be covered over due to moisture. No fan in the bathroom either. The bed was lovely and big but the mattress is very uncomfortable and needs replacing as you can feel all the springs in it.

Although the bedroom had everything you could reasonably need, it was - along with the stairs and landing area - a bit tired. The TV didn't have a great signal for a couple of channels I tried, although it was fine for listening to the radio.

Andrew (6/5): If your going for good staff and food, great choice, if you are stay there take some ear plugs. - The staff, bar/restaurant and food, both in the evening and the breakfast was very good, couldnt fault it. The room I found was basic and in need of refreshing, not very soundproofed, you could hear people through the walls, when people were having showers the noise of the running water was very loud. This is not the pubs fault but the church next door chimed on the hour the amount of times to indicate the correct hour every hour, you could hear this very clearly, even though the window is closed and woke me several times.

Bath and separate shower in our ensuite bathroom & plenty of hot water. No blind for bathroom window. Sunday roast didn't include a vegetarian option. The room was cold when we arrived - but did heat up with the radiator on. Walls quite thin so toddler next door very audible especially crying at night.

Sarah (10/5): A really lovely place to stay and would thoroughly recommend - The room was comfortable and very clean, there was a good range in the tea and coffee, including a decaff coffee so a big tick from me. No decaff tea though so that might be something to bear in mind. Tv was a bit small but we were only there for two nights so not a big issue. The breakfast was amazing! Proper pork butchers sausages and just enough too . We ate there both nights and again the food was outstanding! Some unusual dishes on the menu and freshly cooked (we even tried eel, which was delicious . All piping hot and very tasty, served by really friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble and the majority of the team were quite young but they all worked really hard and we had no complaints at all. On the second night and the last morning the shower was cold. When we mentioned it on departure the lady said the boiler needed topping up. In hindsight we should have told them on the Saturday night but that was our error. The mirror in the bedroom was also broken so that really should be replaced as its quite dangerous .

Leila (6/5): Would not rush back. - Property very characterful and a pleasant place to stop at. Food was very good. Being old one would expect some snags. Our room wasn’t particularly good. Furniture needed repairing - wardrobe sliding door missing, stool had trims missing. Decoration needed. Big problem was no heating at all in bathroom as heated towel rail didn’t work. It was looked at but not able to be repaired apparently. Very cold as temperature outside similar. Complained to manager by pleasant email and expected some recompense but none given. Disappointing really.

Angela (8/5): Friendly and caring staff, beautiful location. - The food was great and the service excellent. The room was a little old fashioned but in keeping with the hotel and comfortable. So in all, I can recommend this venue and would happily stay there again. The mattresses could do with updating soon
Emma (7/5): Beautiful location, friendly staff, excellent food. - The breakfast was outstanding! Really good food! Noise in the room. TV Didn't work in one room. Couldn't park one of the cars. Rooms sepeated into 2 different parts of the hotel which we couldn't each access.
Timothy (8/5): A very enjoyable stay - The welcoming staff, clean and well provided for room. Good breakfast If I’m really picky I don’t like sachets of milk as there’s so little in them although a jug of milk is available on request. Ideally there would also be a charging point for mobile phones.
