This is an absolute gem! - The flat is gorgeous, the location could not be better: super quiet and yet 5 mins walk from one of the top 2 beaches on the island, Payne's Bay. The welcome of Rochelle from the moment you book, her lovely dad is the same, welcoming and friendly people. It really is an amazing place. Look no further. My friend and I are very picky and demanding and we found the place was beyond our expectations: the flat was airy, big confortable, terasse is lovely, a peaceful place in a tastefully decorated place. The help provided by Rochelle once on site was amazing, she went the extra mile. This is a great family run place, we are so grateful we chose Shades. Genuine value for money with the added bonus of warm hosts. Just that shops to by groceries were not within walking distance, but this is well compensated by the amazing beach that is so accessible, and there is a petrol station for emergency grocery shopping

The apartment was really big and had everything we needed, it was super quiet and we usually had the pool to ourselves. Beautiful beach just down the road with turtles swimming in the water.

Parakeets flying overhead, monkeys seen through the foliage, humming birds on the flowers, immaculate garden and beautiful pool. Can’t think of anything to dislike.

- Nadia (10/5): Great accommodation! - We really enjoyed our stay at Shades! The apartment was a nice size and well appointed. The property is well maintained and has a lovely, private oasis feeling. We loved hearing various birds and seeing monkeys pass by daily. The location was great-4 min walk to the beach, a short walk to some good restaurants and a short bus/taxi ride to several more. The host, Rochelle, and her family made us feel very much at home. She was very responsive and gave us great tips for where to visit and where to eat as well as arranged taxis for us. We would definitely book Shades again!

- Gareth (10/5): A fabulous experience. - The property is set in a beautiful plot and our generous balcony overlooked the grounds and swimming pool, featuring luscious palms and Traveller's trees - simply stunning. The local beach - Paynes Bay was a 4 minute stroll from the apartment and was just amazing. Rochelle was a super host - extremely helpful and arranged taxis (at a special rate) for our various trips around the island and for our transport from and back to the airport. She met and welcomed us to Shades on our arrival, walked with us to our apartment and gave us a very comprehensive introduction, to both the property and location/general area, following up with a detailed post on WhatsApp - all fantastic. For local trips, including to Jordan's and Massey's supermarkets, we took the local yellow busses which were plentiful and convenient. This was our first trip to Barbados and Shades was the perfect introduction to the island.

Short walk to our favourite beach, nestled in green oasis surrounded by beautifully kept grounds and pool. Very peaceful and quiet retreat for a holiday. Our friendly host was extremely responsive and we felt well taken care of! The gym needed a refresh, some of the equipment was not working.
- Joanna (9/5): Great affordable villa and host friendliness made this an absolute perfect spot for our holiday. - Loved how the accommodation was our own little villa. With an equipped kitchen and very private. Easy 2km walk (30 minute walk) to the centre of Holetown (or a BBD$30 /US$15 taxi ride). No complimentary condiments in the bathroom so you need to bring your own. No daily fresh towels (but probably could have asked for this!). Could hear noise from banging around in the apartment above.
- Peter (9/5): Loved our Stay at Shades, would be happy to use again - Family run accommodation, with a family feel. A charity golf event was conducted at Shades and we were made to feel welcome to join in. Great atmosphere and lots of money raised for a very worthwhile cancer charity. We loved feeding the tame birds who visited our balcony 2/3 times daily. We had our very own 'Harry' (Death in Paradise lizard, only this one was real) - he left the balcony the day we moved on. Beautiful humming birds around the site too. The accommodation fully fulfilled our needs. We had an hour delay checking in, even after our alloted time. However I had not provided an ETA and they had a lot on with the golf event, so no real issue

- Denise (10/5): - It was hard to find in the late night but Rochelle stayed up to welcome us. When there was no coffee machine in the bungalow she made sure to get one to us in a timely fashion. She was always available to assist in any way. While the property is not luxurious for many, it was perfect for us to get to the beach and to visit different parts of Barbados every day.
- Garrett (10/5): Exceptional - The perfect place to stay in Barbados. The accommodation was fantastic, in a beautiful tropical garden, where hummingbirds visited several times during our stay. Rochelle was brilliant and helped us to order food and taxis, where required and was on hand for advice, if needed, but also gave us privacy. Shades was in an excellent location, just over a hundred steps, to the one of the best beaches in Barbados. I enjoyed coming back to Shades as much as going out, as it was a beautiful, safe and relaxing oasis. It had a lovely atmosphere, with Rochelle's family around who were very welcoming. - PAUL (10/5): Shades ,Paynes Bay ,Barbados - Me & my wife recently spent six nights at Shades Apts ,Paynes Bay .The three villa complex is set in a lush tropical garden with coconut and palm trees .We stayed on the ground floor in Apt 6 & when sitting on our patio we were surrounded by tropical plants and palm trees and there was a constant visit from hummingbirds ,doves and other tropical birds and the neighbourhood hen and her chicks who always stopped by to say hello and of course a free meal .From our patio the only noise we heard was the cooing of doves.The pool was literally thirty steps from the patio and the pool area and surrounding gardens were immaculate. Paynes beach ,rated one of the best bathing beaches in Bdos was an easy & safe three minute walk from our patio.and at the beach lounge chairs and umbrellas were readily available for rent by the day or hour .The bar and grill on the beach served good food and drinks at reasonable prices as all the other local restaurants all within walking distance .Massy a large supermarket where you can purchase all your needs was a five minute bus ride ,the bus stop was a two minute walk from our patio. Jacqui Lee ,the manager of Shades is a lovely person and like a breathe of fresh air and always willing to help with any request . I highly recommend Shades to anyone thinking of staying in that area and definitely plan on returning some day
