Guest Reviews
- Ann (9/5): Nice retreat in the middle of Tlaquepaque - I appreciated breakfast and drinking water on site. Easy to walk around central Tlaquepaque, though with the big garden and trees, the property feels like you're in the countryside. I was able to leave my backpack while I went out in the morning. a lot of bird/rooster/church bell/cohete noise that interfered with my sleep - but that is typical for Mexico and not a property-specific issue.

- Jackson (7/5): - Very friendly staff. Good location Bed uncomfortable and pillows. Very small bathroom. No outdoor seating on terrace. One comunal breakfast table.
- Gordon (8/5): - Lovely staff and a great garden out back where you can sit and relax after a hectic dat!
- Jose (10/5): - Really great and quiet place to rest and sleep. Three blocks from the parian. Breakfast made to order. The host are kind, friendly and very helpful. Overall great experience. Thanks!
- Rose (8/5): A peaceful stay - We enjoyed the family, Esly and Luis are great hosts and they serve a very nice breakfast. They have a lovely yard where we could sit and enjoy a great variety of birds. The room was small but adequate.
- Marte (6/5): - The hosts were very friendly and always ready to help. The room was small
and, as a consequence, the TV is in not centered with the bed. The room does not have AC, only a fan which is noisy. The room was fresh but it get hots once the windows are closed (reducing external noise). The door was not good to block the sounds, it was so clear when people talk or walk next to the room. The Breakfast was ok, i do prefer buffet but this was a fixed menu all 3 days i was... ok, but no options. The location was great, close to Tlaquepaque downtown which ia full of restaurants, bars, and shops.
- Jorge (10/5): A walk away from the action! - Near the center of town. No issues.
- Dan (10/5): - Incredibly cozy family run B&B with a lovely courtyard and clean comfy rooms. Breakfast, cooked to order, was outstanding and it's nice to share with world travelers. Short walk to all Telaquepaque has to offer. We will return, hopefully soon.
- Marieka (10/5): Perfect for staying in Guadalajara area! - Lovely experience. There are many birds singing in the spacious garden. The building is cool during heat of day. The location is close to main attractions of Tlaquepaque but still quiet and peaceful. Owners are attentive and kind. We enjoyed our time very much. Highly recommended
- Robert (10/5): - The staff/owners were terrific. We had a very comfortable stay.
- Irving (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gillian (8/5): - Great location easy walking to everything. Owners were friendly and place was great.
- David (9/5): Superb - Delicious breakfast every morning
- Steven (10/5): Family run gem! - This small family run B&B was an excellent choice for our layover in Tlaquepaque. It is very centrally located and is a short walk from the zocolo. Our room had a small balcony overlooking the back of the property and we could hear a variety of birds singing and chirping. Esley speaks good English which makes it easy to communicate. My new favorite spot to stay in Guadalajara.
- Patu (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely 2 week stay
- Suparna (10/5): Sweet place blocks away from main attractions - What a sweet, homely place, just a few blocks from the main square. We truly appreciated staying here. The family is welcoming and so very kind. Their home is a legacy in Tlaquepaque. They have been there for generations and gladly shared tips on places to go that only locals would appreciate. Simple, great breakfast too!
- Robert (9/5): Perfect, relaxing and central location to stay and spend time in Tlaquepaque - This was our second stay here due to the host family gracious and accommodating nature with a central location allowing pets. Very quiet and comforting with a large shaded rear yard to relax or play with my dog. Very nice low-key touches that felt more like staying in a home rather than a small hotel. Delicious breakfast made to order was included. Luis and his wife both spoke English and were knowledgeable about the area. Free parking was included but was located a few blocks away. Bathroom and bedroom was small but well appointed. Hot water to shower takes over 5 minutes to dispense hot water.
- Gabriela (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts are really friendly and helpful! It's really clean, pleasant and walking distance to the center of town. I look forward to staying here again next. Highly recommend! Wish I could've stayed longer!
- Christine (9/5): Perfect for a couple of days in Tlaquepaque. - Owners were extremely friendly and helpful. Simple, but tasty breakfast served each morning. Location is fabulous. There is a “common area” to gather with friends up by the rooms we stayed in and a nice outside space. Bed was VERY firm (I liked it) but some might not.
- gregory (10/5): - short walk to center of shopping and restaurants. Very quiet and safe location.
- Jose (10/5): - Muy buena location y buen servicio
- Veronica (10/5): - Very nice
- Sigita (8/5): Great place close to old city runned by nice family - Family property in the historical centre - just few blocks from amazing street Independencia and Cathedral.
Very nice hosts - couple, their little boy and well educated dog Kira
Very good breakfest - prepared in family kitchen in front of you.
Nature sounds in early morning and roosters as an alarm.
Change of towels every day. Could be cleaner in the bathroom.
The garden is big but a little messy.
- Richard (7/5): Good -
- Jeffrey (10/5): Great stay in Tlaquepaque. - This was one of the nicest Bed & Breakfast places that I have ever stayed in anywhere. It's a family run operation and I would stay stay there again on any return visits to Tlaquepaque. It's a 5 minute walk to the tourist zone around Jardin Hidalgo. Many good restaurants and bars throughout this area, so with live Mariachi music. This area is one of my favorite areas in the Guadalajara area - a true Pueblo Magico.
Breakfast is good and the host gives you a choice of options to have. The fresh fruit, coffee and Mexican style scrambled eggs that I had were wonderful. The property is huge inside and has a beautiful backyard I just loved spending time there. It's peaceful and quiet at night and the bed and pillows were very comfortable.
Please give this place a try the next time you come to Tlaquepaque. You will want to keep coming back there again and again. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality you displayed to me during my visit there!😉😊💓 Nothing.
- Beth (8/5): Very good - Great location and charming staff. Breakfast was yummy.
- Henry (9/5): Nice place. - This was a lovely place. The owners were kind and helpful, going above and beyond. They made us breakfast at the crack of dawn so we could get fed before an early flight, they found cardboard boxes to help us get our ceramics home in one piece, and gave us local advice. The garden was as nice as other people had said, and the room was good too. The shower was the only one of the four places we stayed on this trip that worked well. The hot water showed up in a reasonable amount of time, the temp stayed consistent and didn't switch chaotically back and forth from scalding to freezing, the shower head had decent flow, and the drain worked. (This shouldn't be so unusual).
The location is good, a short walk from a nice pedestrian area with lots of activity, lots of comfortable benches to sit and people watch, ok restaurants, and loads of craft shops. We were a bit tired from the earlier parts of the trip, so it was nice to just wander and hang out.
All in all, the place felt well cared for and well loved. I don't know if we will end up in Guadalajara again, but if we did, we would certainly consider coming back to this hotel. Not much. It's always nice to have a small fridge and good coffee machine in the room, so I suppose that would be nice. The breakfasts were good, but the coffee was a bit weak. These are minimal, more like ways it could be better than anything actually wrong.
- Steven (10/5): - Very clean. Great backyard for my pup
- Shirish (4/5): Disappointing stay at Casa del Retono - Location is excellent, about 5 minutes from the center. The host, Luis his young son, Adrian and especially the dog, Kida were very welcoming and friendly. We stayed for two nights and Kida demanded long tummy rubs from me. Room is very very basic and small without air conditioning. Fortunately, temperature outside was comfortable when we visited. Toilet is so small that it is difficult to close the door. Room feels even smaller due to too much clutter and unnecessary chairs. Breakfast is nothing to write home about. We spent two and half months in Mexico and it was our worst hotel. We selected it based on the reviews. Guess reviews can be misleading.
- Susan (10/5): Marvellous - Location, 2 blocks from the action and in a quiet area.
Beautifully decorated room, places to relax on the property.
The peacefulness and courtyard garden.
Fabulous breakfast.
Luís, Esley and family were wonderful hosts, thank you! Nothing, everything was brilliant!
- Jeff (10/5): - Very nice and welcoming owners.
- Bobbi (10/5): Really nice! - This was a perfect small hotel for my short stay in Tlaquepaque! A family-run place in the center of a small park, it seemed. Rustic, but spotless (and without strong chemical smells!). My room was in the back, at the garden, so very quiet except for the lovely birdsong. The location was perfect, easy walking to everywhere. The breakfast was simple but nourishing. My hosts were lovely. As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe. Thank you!
- Rogelio (10/5): - Management makes you feel at home
- Peggy (10/5): - Family run bed & breakfast in an oasis. The home is large. Two buildings, each on opposite sides of an open courtyard. A sitting area on the second floor looking out over the courtyard in one building. The kitchen is open to the courtyard, no walls but covered. It’s darling. The decor is traditional Mexican. Pretty colors. Lots of greenery. And on top of this there is also a very large enclosed back yard.
The WiFi was good, the breakfast and especially the coffee excellent. The couple who run the B&B were helpful and kind.
- Steve (8/5): Excellent location with Mexican charm - We really enjoyed our stay at Casa del Retono. Breakfast was freshly made eggs and always available with lots of coffee and fruit. Our room was very Mexican with a small bathroom and positioned off an inside courtyard. It was always cool even when the outside temperature was 29 degrees Celsius. The best part was the location which was only a few block off Indepencenia Street of Tlaquepaque. It was quiet even though close to the action. No problems to note.
- Monica (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, the staff are great! 😊
- Mark (10/5): no - no no
- Fogg (9/5): Charming place to stay. Would love to have stayed longer. - The inn was charming. The hosts were very welcoming. You felt as if you were staying with a family. Breakfast was nice and the location was good. Everything was perfect nothing I didn’t like.
- Robert (9/5): Affordable, convenient small hotel / B&B with a personal touch to help explore and enjoy Tlaquepaque - Great , convenient pet friendly hotel near the Tlaquepaque Centro. The owner Luis and his family were very accommodating and made us feel right at home sharing their kitchen ( with a delicious breakfast included) , yard and pet dog. Rooms were small but efficient. Hot water took a long time to heat up due to the size of the supply pipes. Parking was available but located 2 blocks away at a parking lot. Difficult to unload luggage at the entrance due to street traffic.
- Suze (10/5): A peaceful refugio near town centre - We loved Casa del Retorño and our patrons Luis and Estle were kind and helpful, made our stay truly exceptional. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the garden beautiful, breakfast delicious. The whole place felt peaceful, a refugio from the bustle outside and very close walking distance to the town center and the Paseo. Can't think of a thing.
- Reid (6/5): - Owners were super friendly and helpful.
- Sandra (10/5): - Wonderful host and hostess. Was able to meet my needs for taxis. I will stay here again.
- Mary-anne (10/5): A wonderful homey place to stay. Hosts, food and outdoors areas are all wonderful! - The hosts are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast cooked right in front of you is always delightful. This was my fourth visit over several years and I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.
- Jorge (9/5): A forest in a city. - A real Mexican home atmosphere with lovely decorations and very woodsy with all the vegetation. No elevator to the first floor.
- Rosaura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leslie (10/5): - Eslie and her husband have an amazing property. The rooms are off a courtyard and if it had not been raining would have been lovely to sit out there and have a coffee. They are just a few blocks from the central part of Tlaquepaque making it ideal to walk there and back. The rooms are everything you need, super clean and done up with local flavours. We had a wonderful substantial breakfast every morning to set off our day. Great local quiet spot and got really good information on how to get around and places to see. Highly recommend!!
- Jon (9/5): Superb - Very personable, friendly and helpful staff.
- Jeanette (8/5): Satisfactory hotel for City stay - Location perfect. Modest, comfortable, clean hotel in center of Tlaquepaque. Good price. Lovely managers, very helpful. Little breakfast options for vegan eater, such as oatmeal, something Mexican like chilaquillas.
- Kate (10/5): Beautiful comfortable casa in a great location - Beautiful property and huge garden out the back, really excellent room, very nice staff, great free breakfast, excellent location Nothing really. Just to be aware you are staying in someone’s family home but they are really lovely
- Patrick (8/5): Very good -
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Angelica (9/5): Superb -
- Patricia (10/5): - Great rooms for the price. Walkable but not on the main streets. Excellent customer service.
- Avinash (10/5): A great place to stay and experience the town, we would certainly head there if we are in Guadalajara again. - A cozy home managed by a very friendly family. They have a beautiful garden which can be experienced while having freshly made breakfast. The room was clean. The property is very well located in Tlaquepaque, lots of activities around yet the room was quiet at nights. Numerous options for food and shopping.
The room in which we stayed could be considered small, nevertheless we had no issues with the size. Our 3-year old really liked his stay and so did we. Nothing.
- Juan (10/5): - Nice place to stay
- Mary (8/5): Very good -
- Thomas (6/5): - They have a shuttle and the staff was pleasant and helpful.
- Dumbrell (9/5): Superb -
- Georgia (10/5): - Great location, 2-3 blocks from centro. Breakfast cooked to order. Comfortable room. Wonderful, English speaking owners and most adorable son. Stayed there twice during a 7 day trip. Overall, great place for the price. Will definitely stay again.
- morelia (10/5): - Just around the corner you can find a “cenaduria” so you can get all the Mexican dishes very cheap, the staff at the hotel is great, hotel room clean, big and cozy just love it.
- Jose (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mercedes (8/5): Very good -
- Eric (10/5): Very short but great stay & will absolutely return - I was only at the hotel for a couple of hours because I had a very early flight in the morning. The hotel is pet friendly, and that is why I chose this hotel because I had my dog with me. There was a dog that was barking a little during the night, but it is expected when a hotel has this policy. The gentleman who checked me in, and I apologize for not remembering his name is the same man who unlocked the door for me at 3:30am when it was time for me to head to the airport. He was excellent, spoke English and I felt that he made sure that I made it to my car safely at 3:30am which was a block and a half from the hotel. I am familiar with this neighborhood and will absolutely stay at this property again. I have parked at the parking lot that the hotel uses many times and would have no problems parking there except that they close at 1am and reopen at 6am which didn't work for this trip. My room was traditionally decorated and was very clean. The sheets were very nice and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The room seemed very clean and had all the amenities that one would want and expect. The bathroom was stocked with many towels. I didn't not get to use the shower so I cannot comment.
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joseph (9/5): Superb -
- Claudia (9/5): It felt like home away from home for a night and I will definitely come back and recommend! - Lovely place! Cute, quaint, excellent service. As a woman traveling by myself, they made me feel safe and taken care of. The breakfast was amazing! I wish I had more time to explore the neighborhood because it seemed very lovely as well: cute shops, art galleries, handcrafts and great bars and restaurants. I'm a little concerned about the lack of A/C. It does cool down at night and I was very comfortable. But it is April. I'm not sure it would be cool enough in the summer, which would be my only concern for staying there in the summer.
- Youna (8/5): Very good -
- Charles (8/5): Very good -
- Ashlee (9/5): Incredible location; homey stay! - Property was easy to find, very well located just a few blocks from the main square along with many restaurant/bar/shopping options. Staff was very friendly, spoke both English & Spanish and they were on-site and always helpful. I brought my dog and having a little yard for her to wander around in was awesome. I had a car and they provided a secure parking lot a few blocks away. Breakfast was on demand; I had eggs, toasts, beans and coffee - a perfect send-off for the day. Highly recommend for a night or 2 while in the lovely Tlaquepaque area. I slept with the windows open and could smell cigarette smoke so that was awful. However, it could have been from a neighbor or possibly another guest, wasn't a huge deal though.
- Patrick (9/5): Superb -
- Jean (10/5): A wonderful place to stay in Tlaquepaque - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa del Retono. The room and gardens were beautiful, the breakfast was delicious and filling, and the owner was a pleasure to talk with. The location was perfect; it was only a very short walk to the main square in Tlaquepaque. We only wish we had another night or two to stay at Casa del Retono. Nothing.
- Emilia (7/5): Good - great location same breakfast selection everyday and bathrooms could be cleaner
- Mary-anne (10/5): Exceptional - Rhe owners of Casa de Retoño are very helpful and friendly and they make you feel so comfortable and welcomed. This is my favorite place to stay when visiting Tlaquepaque.
- Octavio (10/5): Fabulous stay - Excellent location and great service by staff and owners
- Randy (10/5): Exceptional - Service
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - Warmth
- Hugo (8/5): - Very close to downtown Tlaquepaque, clean room and friendly staff.
Beds too small even for a couple of medium size , all they have is small full size beds
