Brenda (10/5): - I had an absolutely fantastic stay at the Hitching Post in Santa Cruz. From the moment I arrived, the service was impeccable—warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The location couldn’t be better—centrally situated, it’s just a short walk to all the major attractions, charming boutiques, and incredible restaurants. The room was cozy and clean. I can’t recommend this place enough—it’s a hidden gem in the heart of Santa Cruz!

KAREN (7/5): Great place to stay for several reasons. - Owner, Danny, has created a unique kind of mellow Bohemia environment, where even the property is retro-historical, around for decades. Retro but with well upgraded, clean, comfortable units at great pricing with Dannys very responsive customer service. Oh and great location too. This place is quiet, safe, well tended to. But there are always people who can learn to be more respectful. Same at most anywhere.
Jesus (8/5): Overall a great and relaxing experience. - They are definitely accommodating to our needs. thorough, brief, friendly , and inviting guest service at check-in/check-out . It's a convenient location do to having stores and restaurants with-in walking distance and a bus stop a short walk away from the property and also has the arana gultch hiking/bike trail at about 7 minutes away. And they also have wheelchair accessible shower in some rooms. And housekeeping staff are respectful. What we didn't like is the fact that there is no bathtub in the bathroom, and some rooms don't have a hair blow dryer.

For one night, it was OK but I wouldn’t recommend it for a longer stay. - Parking and location A very strong smell of cleaning products when we arrived. We had to open all the windows to air it out. Although there was a full kitchen there were no plates, glasses, eating or cooking utensils and no pots or pans. The pillows were flat and hard. The blanket was very lightweight.

Theodore (10/5): Amazing - Was a Great Cozy Place to stay in Santa Cruz! Hidden Gem! Very Clean! We Loved Danny he was so Compassionate after a stressful 14 hour drive! He was so Helpful and Friendly! Will stay again when ever we return!! Parking is a little tight, especially for trucks.

I received a kitchenette room even tho i had not requested one and was not charged for it. If i had needed the kitchenette, it is completely unsupplied but the property sent me an email to that effect.

TIFFANI (7/5): - Close to the Board walk. Very quiet. I did not like the smell of the Fabuloso hate that nasty cheap smell. and how strong it was.I could taste it and ended up getting a migraine. Also, the king beds had full-size pillows, not king-size pillows. It was very uncomfortable , but the mattress was great. Coffee pot worked , but it was a wrong pot for the coffee machine. So, I had to rig it to work.

jeff (5/5): Highly overrated, and unfortunately recommended for our group by booking.com - we didn't get mugged this is an older,run down hotel, poorly refurbished.Pieces of tile missing in the bathroom,The base for the towel hook was on the back of the bathroom door, but no hook.The heat is provided by a funky portable heater, with an old a.c. unit in the window.very narrow access for vehicles,If you have a large pickup be careful.Thin cheesy blankets.

Beds were very comfortable. It would have been nice to have a hook on the door of the bathroom for extra towel hanging. It would also be nice to have a lamp on the table between the beds instead of the overhead lights above each bed as the lights were extremely bright, or else perhaps have the lights on dimmers. I wanted to read a book but my friend wanted to go to sleep. When I turned on my overhead light, she said it was so bright she couldn't sleep.

Peter B (8/5): Acceptable and well-located clean older motel - Check in and check out were easy and quick. Room (with kitchen) was very large-actually seemed like two whole rooms. Room was quiet. Parking was right by the room. Kitchen was a real kitchen with full stove and good size refrigerator and plenty of totally empty cabinets. On request, the manager lent me two plates. (I knew that it was a totally unfurnished kitchen so I brought my own pot and flatware but forgot plates.) Furniture was very basic and mattress could be more comfortable. And in the shower the flow of water was minimal--not the plumbing but rather a too-effective flow restrictor in the shower head itself.

It was far from fancy and wouldn't be a place I'd bring my wife, but it did the job for myself and my coworker. Good value for the money. The manager on site was exceptionally friendly. Nothing. It was fine.

Annette (7/5): No frills, clean, good staff; good if all you need is a safe, clean place to stay overnight. - We needed a place to stay for one night and this was in a location that suited our needs (note it is not close to beach & boardwalk but we were not looking for that). It is a "no frills" place but all we needed was a bed and bathroom for one night. Bed was comfortable. Quality TV, microwave & refrigerator were included. I appreciate roomy closet & luggage racks. Room also had three chairs and an ottoman which was nice. Check in and check out were a breeze. They use too much Febreze air freshener (or something like it) which I did not like since I have a sensitivity to heavy smells like that.
Kimberly (9/5): Perfect place to stay for a reasonable price. - The room was sparsely appointed but very spacious, clean and very comfortable. Although there were no bedside lights, they were graciously provided when my husband inquired about them. There was a large separate kitchen where one may cook a full meal after borrowing cooking and eating supplies from the front desk (for a $5.00 fee), and there was a large refrigerator. Safeway and Grocery Outlet were nearby as well as Walgreens to purchase food and supplies. The facilities were clean and very quiet, with free parking right outside the door. Great Mexican Food within walking distance. Public transportation is convenient to get around. We will definitely stay again when we are in the Santa Cruz Area. Can't think of anything. The furniture is nothing fancy but to be expected for the low price point. It was a bit odd having to ask for bedside lights (but the management graciously obliged).

Rachel (8/5): Nice spot away from the tourists - Staff was very welcoming & liked that you got a gift bag with snacks. Housekeeping was very intuitive, noticing that I untucked the bedding so that it wasn't so tight. So they kept it that way during my stay while making the bed. Always plenty of parking & liked being next to the laundry room so I knew hot water would not be an issue. Enjoyed being a little more out of the touristy part of town. Felt some other guests could be quieter- talking on the phone loudly right outside my door late at night. Also, my bathroom was accessible when I did not request or book accessible, so would've preferred a regular shower.

Not far from the beaches and hiking areas nearby. Quiet though - despite the main road near to the property, there weren't any noise issues while we were staying. Washing machine and dryer available (at extra cost). Friendly staff. Parking available right outside the apartment. Good size rooms. Air con in the room. No cutlery/pots/pans/plates etc in the kitchen was a bit odd - you could get this from reception, but we managed without as we had our camping gear anyway.
