Frances (7/5): A pleasant stay. I would upgrade next time if we need to book there. - Location good for the Toltec & Cumbres steam train station. Very peasant owners once we could find him. Bathroom really small but it was ok just for the 2 nights. Shower not clean in corners, and the floor of shower has duck tape over the cracks.! TV not suited to Dish TV - picture too big for TV (Settings) Airconditioner in the window needs to be re-sealed, lots of wind coming through in the night. The breakfast room was totally inadequate, and the cereals plus lots of items needed to be restocked. Either offer breakfast and have stock or not at all. No water in the coffee machine, had to use the tap water from bedroom. Tiny sized coffee cups.
Beverly (7/5): Historic hotel - The staff was very nice. The room was very spacious. Nice history of this building. Breakfast could have been better. There were no coffee cups, no napkins. There was very little offered that didn't include sugar and no decaf options whether it was tea or coffee. The first morning, the help apparently brought some breakfast type sandwiches, but they were not placed out for consumption until after 7:45 a.m. By then half of the guests were gone for the day. That didn't exist the morning we left either. We just grabbed coffee in the next town.
Mike (10/5): - This is not your steel and plastic holiday inn. It is a step back in time! It is clean, quaint, western inn. Paul, the owner, is a native Antonnian, is very nice, doing whatever he can to make tor stay enjoyable. A nice, small deck area is available. Paul will make a recommendation about restaurants. I would definitely stay there again!!

RANDY (10/5): - There were two restaurants within a minute walk. A nice deck to sit on, a common area with a pool table. Lots of historic memorabilia. Close to the train station.
Amy (8/5): I would stay again! - The proprietor was extremely pleasant - the hotel has lots of charm. The common refrigerator was stocked with refreshments for guests. The outdoor metal steps to reach the rooms.
Keith (6/5): - The host was very pleasant and nice but the building has seen better days. Electric outlet next to sink broken. Whoever painted the walls got most of the paint on the ceiling. Bad water stains on one ceiling, paint in other areas peeling. I stayed at numerous hotels on a cross country trip and paid more than half as much for much better conditions. I would not go there again.

Cezary (3/5): Stay elsewhere!!!! - Room one was right next to restaurant kitchen and it had a nasty smell. You could see vent piping running from our room to restaurant and weird wiring on the ceiling and walls. Room number to had paint pealing off the ceiling right over bed (obvious water leak) and bed looked like it was about to collapse. Bathroom was very outdated and bathtub was jus scary and nasty looking. 2 people from our party decided to ride additional 60 miles just before subset to Taos to get something else. After long negotiation with the owner we switched smelly room to room number 3 that was somewhat acceptable. Pictures are deceiving and I will advice to stay in Alamosa or Taos if possible. After hearing our complains owner said that there is no rain in forecast ( paint pealing) and restaurant will close at 10 pm (nasty smell). OMG what a reassuring talk. Stay away Renovate the rooms. Hotel has a potential to be nice. Build the wall between kitchen and room on the floor level.
Bailey (5/5): Not bad, but not great. - Location was good. Proprietor was very helpful. The bed left a lot to be desired. The covers were in adequate for the temperature. The breakfast had many things offered, but the presentation was sloppy and left us not wanting to partake. Luckily, there was a nice place across the street.
Lisa (8/5): Interesting location. - When we arrived we had to call a number on the door of the restaurant in order to get the manager. He did show up quickly. This is not handicap accessible. The area around the hotel was a bit shady. We quickly realized there was no one on the street. Antonito is like a ghost town. The room was small for a king bed. The bed was comfortable and a bit noisy the night we stayed. The restaurant smells from the first floor permeated the room. If you’re staying there to ride the Cumbre Toltec railroad it is a killer location. Won’t stay there again. We’ll drive the 40 min back to Alamosa.

Chris (8/5): - The old building has a lot of charm and character. My mom and I really enjoyed our stay and they accommodated her disability. The owners were very nice and helpful. The Caboose has great burgers. We would definitely recommend staying here!
robert (10/5): - The Steam Train Hotel is a unique, period hotel which is commiserate with the vibe of Antonito CO. The Four Seasons this is not, but it was clean. All of the fixtures and features of the room worked just fine and security was decent for this small town America location. If you're in town to ride or watch trains, this hotel is a great way to get into the spirit of things.

GWEN (10/5): - We had booked a tour on the nearby Cumbres train and since it was arriving late (11:00 pm) we chose this hotel out of the other three available. The rooms were quaint and the hallways felt like home! Bathroom was small with a walk in shower and it was adequate. The window air conditioner however, was loud but we slept pretty well regardless. The restaurant below the hotel is excellent for breakfast!!
Piotr (7/5): The room for 5 people advertised on booking.com does not exists. - I have very mixed feeling about this hotel. The hotel itself was what we wanted to get - historic railway hotel. The receptionist was very friendly and willing to help to solve for issues we encountered. The equipement was basic. When we arrived - family of 5 (adults or almost adult kids) the room we were given was totally different from what is presented on booking.com as a room for 5 people. There was literally no place for 5 people to sleep. The receptionist(Paul) said he never saw the room I was showing him on booking.com photos. He showed me reservation in his system where it stated it was for 2 people (we had 5 in booking.com). We really wanted to sleep there as we were tiered so we agreed and got a cot bed added to the room so we were able to get 5 people to sleep there. There were two beds that were very very low (10-15 inczes, 25-30cm from the floor) so uncomfortable even for our kids. SO - they do not have a room for 5. I would say even for 4. If you are a smaller group it might be worth to try, bigger groups it is not worth it.

Stan (10/5): Family Train Ride - Family train ride trip with brothers and sister along with spouses. Check-in and communication with hotel staff was excellent. All had a great stay. The quick breakfast items in the morning was a plus.

Kary (6/5): - The people could not have been nicer so the rating is not a reflection on them. The property is in poor condition and the room was way overpriced. Beds were fine but the electrify didn’t work in the bathroom. The communication was a problem because there was no place to check in. We went into the restaurant and they called someone to meet us. The breakfast was a little game room with one table and pop tarts. We made our own coffee. There aren’t a lot of options in town but this one needs updating.

Dalene (8/5): - We arrived early and we greeted well. The only thing was there dirty dishes in the sink as this was a suite and could cook. The jetted tub is huge with really no safe way to get in unless you are very young and spry. There needs to be a little step so you can get safely in and out. Other than those 2 things it was marvelous. So cute and comfortable.
Shirley (6/5): - It was quaint, but only 8 rooms, all on the 2nd floor with no elevator so we needed to climb relatively steep stairs outside to get to the 2nd floor. If anyone is expecting a typicaly motel room , this does not fit the bill.

The rooms were above the old bank and were formally a brothel to suppler the train workers according to the pizza shop guy. We would stay there again but there are some limitations

Doug (6/5): Certainly not 5-star, but for the flexible, adventuresome traveler, an adequate place to stay. - Prospective customers should be made aware that all rooms are on the second floor and that there is not an elevator. This was not a problem for me as I’m a fit 77 year old. However the stairs are outdoors and steep and many people would not be able to climb them comfortably, much less carry luggage up and down.

Marc (6/5): Funky Place, Not Bad! - The Steam Train is a funky old place--1911 vintage building rooms with old furniture. Our room had a nice bathroom with a great big old claw foot tub. Perfectly fine place to stay on a budget. Their breakfast room has a generous supply of food in general, and a nice pool table. Access is not good if you have mobility problems, as you must climb a steep outdoor stairway to get to the rooms. We (71 yrs old) had no problem. If you aren't looking for luxury and like funky, you will enjou your stay.
Ron (9/5): Fun and relaxing! - The hotel was quirky, in a good way. The owner was super nice. Even though not listed, they offered breakfast. Lots of charm and it was obvious that the owners cared about the property and the guests. I stayed in a room with the whirlpool tub and it was very relaxing. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are tired of “cookie cutter” motels that are bland and impersonal. No complaints
Lloyd (6/5): Very disappointed! - I was very disappointed with my stay at the Steam Train Hotel. The room and location were great, but the room had a broken heating system that could no be turned off. The room was very hot and the manager, Paul said that there was a valve in the heating system that was broken and could not be turned off. I had to put a fan by the window to cool the room. I asked if there was another room and he said there was, but I would have to move again. there was no offer of any compensation for the discomfort in a very hot room. If the knew that the heating was broken, why was the room listed as available.
Laurie (8/5): - This was a very eclectic, unusual and fun place to say very close to the Antonito train station we were there to enjoy a scenic railway trip! We had the only room with a king bed and kitchenette, good restaurants nearby! We recommend!

TOTALY not worth the money. - I can honestly say that not one thing about Steam train hotel did I like This place is not compatible for seniors with any disiabilities, Low slung couches hard to get off of. Commode so low very hard to get off of.. Practically no electrical outlets. one extension cord in the living area. I had to get someone to come and set up the portable air conditioner, they had to vent it out the window. I had a two day reservation and the place was so bad I had to leave after one night. I also was unable to get any rest that one night I STAYED THERE.

Daniel (8/5): - Had a really nice time here. There is a lot of character in this small hotel in this really small town. If you are wanting to be in the area for outdoorsing (most likely, I'd guess) it is a nice alternative to camping.
Scott (8/5): A charming, not luxurious stay in a historic rail station. Met my expectations, recommend. - I asked the guy who let us in if the Mexican restaurant across the street was good, and he said that it's where he goes, which is good enough for me. The food was good, it more than met my expectations in a town with 2 or maybe 3 places to choose from. The location couldn't be better, it's within walking distance to good food, at least 1 bar, and I think 2 dispensaries if that's your jam. The room itself was a hodgepodge of furniture, but what can you expect, it's the back room of a 1911 train station, not a Hilton. You stay here for the history, not the luxury. That being said, the coffee maker was very disappointing, it looked old and cheap. I chose to drive less than a mile away to the nearest convenience store. Which had plenty of hot coffee and very good breakfast burritos that myself and many locals were snapping up.

Emily (7/5): Great hotel would stay again - This hotel has a great rustic esthetic, large rooms with kitchens and bathrooms feels more of a studio apartment then a hotel room, the added bonus of a pool table room and a deck overlooking the area just made it that much better and it is located directly across the street from the Dutch Mill restraunt which has some amazing food. There are also a few shops and quick stop stores nearby so it is very centrally located to anything you may want or need. The hotel is slightly run down but for where it is located and how old it is I believe that brings in some of the appeal with how rustic it actually is.

Zachary (10/5): Dictionary definition of R&R - I've never left a vacation and felt like I was on one before this stay. An older building, so the floors creak, especially when you're my size. Sorry downstairs neighbors. Very friendly. They also had my favorite store bought drip coffee. I didn't have a great view. But when the bed is that comfortable and your goal is definitively R&R. The window was fine for a little added, but not direct sunlight. So you could say the bad was really a good

Wendi (10/5): - The hotel was very unique. We had help with bringing our bags to the room and making sure the tv worked. They have a very nice common area where they have a variety of breakfast foods we could use. There were games, puzzles, books, and a pool table we could use. Each room was unique, ours had a whirlpool bath, a full kitchen and a separate bedroom.
Taylor (7/5): Perfect for a train adventure - We rode the train so it was convenient for that. Slept fairly well despite a fight outside our window in the middle of the night. AC helped block the noise and wasn’t too loud. Shower pressure was surprisingly nice despite it being small. Some breakfast options and snacks are provided which was a bonus for us. Owners were also very nice and welcoming. We would stay again to ride the train. Bathroom floor had hair. Clearly wasn’t cleaned.

David (4/5): - There was pros and cons with this property. PROS: (1) When checking in, Paul was most helpful and nice. (2) We learned from another guest who knows the area that this is the best place to stay. (3) It is a 5-minute drive to get to the Cumbres & Toltec railroad station. (4) Some nice antiques on the upper floor. (5) There is a nice selection of breakfast foods including items like a frozen burrito that could be microwaved. There is a coffee pot that customers use to make their own coffee. CONS: (1) Windows need to be open to let in air. We had a corner room next to a patio and had to smell marijuana from someone smoking outside. (2) The information in the room indicated that we could call for assistance between 6 am and 9 pm. However, when I called several times at 7 am to report that there was no milk for cereal, all I got was an answering machine that said that the office opened at 8 am. So, no milk for cereal. The next time we come down for the train, we will stay in Alamosa.

Douglas (10/5): - Rooms have some character with some unique decorations. Staff on check-in very friendly and brought my suitcase up the stairs. They need to work on amenities. Had a single small bar of soap (size ok, as know there's lots of waste with short stays) but had to transport from sink to/from shower. The shampoo need work. Just left one packet for a two-night stay that had no maid service (I'm OK with no maid service, again as there's lots of waste). But just one pack of shampoo and in a package that can't be opened without using a sharp object. People coming here ride the train and expect might get dirty. So let's leave enough supplies for the whole trip - and change the shampoo packaging. Now I did call down and they did promptly bring additional supplies. I just think I shouldn't have had to ask. They also need more attention to the breakfast offerings. The first morning I had the last Pop Tar (and threw out 2 empty boxes). Nothing brought for the next day. And on the second day, OJ was down to a measly 6 oz left. Need more attention in keeping the breakfast supplies stocked.
Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel is on the main road, so some rooms may be noisy. This is a boutique hotel, with character, so accept some differences from your standard motel.

It’s a great place to stay if you’re going to ride the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. And the stay includes a continental breakfast with a little bit of everything for everyone. This was my second stay, and I’ll be back!

Gayla (2/5): - Very depressed area. The hotel has not been updated. All of the furnishings are old including the beds and the bedspreads and pillows. Did not feel safe. Provided breakfast was poptarts and coffee. The owner states he has repeat visitors. Some people might like the very different atmosphere. You also have to climb steep stairs to get to the room which was hard on my husband with knee problems. The owner is very accommodating and tries hard. Appears he has done the best he can with what is available. The restaurant across the street also has not been updated in a very long time. The entire experience was like stepping back in time to an old Clint Eastwood western.
