Guest Reviews
- Darrel (8/5): -
- Fahy (8/5): Very relaxing. - Ideal location. I have no complaints
- julie (7/5): Very clean Hall hotel, lovely swimming pool and welcoming staff - Very clean
Good big pool and sauna/ steam /jacuzzi for free and towels.
Breakfast ok ,nice sausages
Nice staff!
Good lifts
Nice gardens. Not a 4 star but a good 3
Garden spa ( which you pay extra at a reduced rate) is closed on a Wednesday. Looks really good though.
Windows need a good clean and Moss taken off!
- Liv (8/5): Good location and good stay - Very nice grounds The staff in the restaurant wasn’t great and the buildings looked like it could do with a little spruce up
- Michael (10/5): -
- Austin (7/5): Good value. - Good value. Sheets were dirty but a quick call and were replaced.
- Dovey (8/5): -
- John (10/5): -
- Mark (8/5): -
- Angiepangie (8/5): - The jacuzzi near the swimming pool was cold.
We also had a dirty pillowcase that hadn't been changed at changeover. I reported it and it was dealt with quickly
- Andre (10/5): Almost perfect - Perfect location and facilities great Service at the restaurant could have been better
- John (4/5): -
- Phoebe (10/5): A lovely stay, and will definitely be returning and recommending to friends! - Hellaby Hall is such a hidden gem! The heritage building that hosts the bar, reception and rooms is beautiful to explore. Loved the surrounding outside areas full of rabbits, staff were amazing, everywhere was very clean, rooms were nice and well facilitated (the room was very hot when we arrived but there was a fan in the room that we used), overall really loved our stay. And the fact that you have access to the pool with your booking is great, we went for a swim, enjoyed the sauna and steam room, and will definitely be back. The only issue is that I struggled to get a member of staff at the reception when it was later in the night, but understandably they were busy in another area of the hotel, and after going to the bar to ask for someone to come to the desk, they were more than happy to help.
- Neil (6/5): - Gym facilities were good Tv didnt work in the room.
- Suzanne (9/5): - The reception staff were amazing, thank you
- Suzanne (9/5): -
- Sarri (5/5): - I purposefully searched for a hotel with a large free standing bath. The photo of the suite I booked showed this. When I I arrived and was given my room it did not have this and I was told the photos are generic. I was told it was my responsibility to have specified what I wanted. I feel it is dishonest and actually a scam to do that. I would not have chosen this hotel if I could not have had that facility. I had to fight very hard to even get an apology. With all sorts of excuses like the manager is on holiday so there is no one I can speak to. It wasn't good enough really.
- Anita (9/5): - The staff were amzeing couldn't do enough for you
- Melvin (1/5): No sleep no tv - My room tv signal kept going off so I couldn’t watch tv my smoke alarm kept flashing and to top it off noisy guests all early hours
- Bikram (7/5): It was good overall - Breakfast was good and on site swimming pool No water bottles in the room, they can charge extra couple of quids at least put couple of water bottles
- Gareth (1/5): Needs renovation and overpriced - Nothing, it’s out dated and need renovation. Rusty doors and dangerous seat in spa. My friend burned her bum on the seat. Very old spa fittings, cold jacuzzi and exposed nails in sauna
- Andrew (6/5): -
- Luke (10/5): -
- Mark (9/5): -
- Gavin (9/5): Good rooms. Great staff and good food. What is not to like. We will be back. - Great venue with nice facilities. Loved the pool and steam rooms. Nothing to dislike.
- B5420WTstuartw (10/5): New owners of the Hotel and Gym - The Hotel has a very friendly atmosphere. Particularly worth mentioning is the Body Scene Gym and Spa. My wife and I have been members of the Gym for over 20 years and just recently the hotel has changed the staff and manager for the better. The new owners have put a lot of time and money into the hotel and Gym and now I would rate it as the best in South Yorkshire.
- Emma (9/5): - Friendly staff, great size room
- Sarah (10/5): - Breakfast was ok
- Simon (3/5): Look for alternatives - Location & potential Room door didn't close.
Staff customer service very poor
- Danielle (7/5): Would only stay if inhad to for a wedding wouldn’t visit otherwise - The location was great for a wedding The staff were hit and miss on their service. The breakfast was £50 for two adults and a child who was going to eat and looked a basic breakfast.
- Stuart (8/5): Pleasant stay in Rotherham. - Pool, breakfast. Comfy bed Small room, tiny tv, a maze of corridors
- Nelson (8/5): -
- Osborne (8/5): Nice place - Really nice place, nice room great gardens The TV was slow
- Mike (10/5): Excellent again -
- Jacek (8/5): - Free parking and swimming pool Small room, hair drying is too much secured and that is why difficult to use.
- ANGELINAHARDYT (10/5): Our wedding day ❤️ - Well, what can we say?! We had our wedding here on 8/5/2026 after walking in 2 years ago and falling in LOVE with this venue, such a beautiful stunning place, perfect mix of history and modernization.
From start to finish our wedding organising with the entire wedding team has been faultless, absolutely everything was taken care of, every query and question was taken care of and we seriously had no doubts all the way through to our wedding day, again, most of our guests stayed over and they accommodated everyone so warmly, and as for the actual wedding day it's self, again the entire team did themselves so proud! Everyone was so happy and eager to make our day unforgettable, to the front desk, to the bar staff, to the chefs and kitchen team, and of course the main wedding team, absolutely incredible! And we got so much great feedback about the unreal food! And DJ Mikey! What a legend! 🤣!
Just to close our review,
We want to express our ever growing gratitude and love to everyone at Hellaby, you are all incredible and do a fantastic job, catering for weddings can be a notoriously stressful job but you all smashed it out the park and then some!
Rest assured we will be returning on special occasions and of course our anniversary too!
Lots of love and gratitude
Angelina and Daniel Hartshorn ❤️
- Alexander (8/5): Nice stay for recreational use - The pool was great! Rooms were nice but were lacking a fridge. The internet connection was not stable, no possibility to work with it.
- Cads (4/5): - Spa and gym Being kept awake until 3.30am by a Wedding group.
I called reception 3 times @ 12.43am,
01.20am & 02.35am, no answer. No one responded to my call and I certainly was not going to leave my room at that time of night and make my way to the front desk being a female.
That sleepless night has made my day today unbearably. I am fatigued, exhausted and have had a nagging temporal lobe ache all day.
This ruin my short breakaway which should have been a delightful time.
- Shaun (10/5): -
- Helen (7/5): Friendly staff, good breakfast, comfy stay. - Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Rooms comfy but basic. Hotel like a maze!
- Joan (8/5): -
- gary (9/5): -
- Zafar (10/5): -
- kayziz (5/5): Needs new carpet and lick of paint - Breakfast was good. Staff were polite and helpful.
Swimming pool is good size but water was on the cold side. Disappointed by the stains on carpets. Hotel a bit tired now and in dire need of upgrade
- javaid (4/5): Pleasant - Location
Friendly and professional reception staff
Spa is good But the handles and the shower heads were all rusty Carpets need changing in corridors had a lot of stains
Not a busy hotel
Hoped breakfast was included in the price would have been value for money then
- Clark (6/5): -
- 79shehnaza (10/5): Good customer service - Good customer service By Michelle
- Jen (7/5): -
- Curtis (8/5): -
- mjc404 (10/5): Very good hotel - This is an excellent hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed the two nights that we stayed here, All the staff were great and the breakfasts were first class. We cannot criticise anything.
- 891lornad (10/5): We will be back- great stay! - Great facilities, spa was amazing, staff so friendly and skilled- great treatments. Food good- weather was great too 😎
- Mellor (4/5): -
- andrew (3/5): Disappointed this time but will try again soon - Stayed here before just a few months ago. Great location. Failure to assign the room i requested during booking. Attempts to resolve it didnt work for us. Staff tried but failed. I had been explicit about the need for an accessible room
- atennant630 (10/5): Bodyscene gym. - I’ve been a member of Bodyscene for over 5 years, since Lee has returned as the manager the gym is a lot cleaner, tidy and has an improved atmosphere.
The changing room and shower area has seen a big improvement in the hygiene standards.
Well worth a visit.
- Emily (6/5): -
- Richie (7/5): -
- Barrie (7/5): -
- Neil (7/5): - Poor breakfast
- Barry Mawby (8/5): - Great breakfast. Hell of a long walk to the room.
- deanab561 (10/5): The Body Scene Gym. - ⸻
I’ve been a member of this gym for over a year now, and I’ve really noticed a big positive change recently. Since the new manager Lee returned at the beginning of April, both the gym and pool areas have improved massively.
It’s now a pleasure to walk in—the whole place is clean, tidy, and well-organised. The weights are always in the correct place, which makes a huge difference to the overall experience and shows real attention to detail.
The manager Lee is a breath of fresh air. You can clearly see his passion for the job, and it reflects in how the facility is run day to day. He’s doing a fantastic job, and it genuinely makes me happier coming here.
- Anne (7/5): Nice location very hot room - Close to amenities breakfast was nice and well catered for. We stayed in standard double and the room was very hot 1 desk fan. The wall was sloped so this caused bumping my head as I slept on the left head few . The decor is outdated carpets look worn and a musty smell. The coffee facilities are minimal. The light switch was faulty and no bath robes in the room to use the facilities.
- brendacB1181US (10/5): Wedding - Attended a wedding yesterday and all I can say is wow the attention to detail was amazing staff were brilliant the wedding coordinator leanne was fantastic credit to the team.
- Gurdeep (5/5): -
- Howard (1/5): HOTEL FROM HELL - Building I.....l was in a room and there was construction on the roof above and the wind was howling into the room and the plastic sheeting on the roof was rattling......l asked for another room and they said there was no room left in the hotel.....impossible to sleep. I have audios of the noise
2.....on 2nd day in the Next room there was quite a few people in who were drinking and very noisy until 3am.....
I could not sleep due to the wind coming through the roof and the noise of the next door.
3.....l was asleep for a brief moment and the hotel staff knocked on my door at 11pm on the second night to bring me a bucket of ice? They had the wrong room.
4...My phone was having problems so l asked reception to make an international call and they said they do not have the facility?
5....Mould and filth in bathroom and l have pictures
6.....cutlery at breakfast was dirty with dried food on and l showed the staff.
- Zoe (3/5): -
- Lucy (8/5): - Lovely hotel, very clean.
Convenient location.
Bar food (pizzas and burgers lovely), nice outside area to eat and plenty of bar seating inside WiFi near room 42 did not work and no phone signal in room.
Keycards frustrating, had to visit reception on 3 separate occasions to get them reactivated.
- Deborah (10/5): -
- Lindsey (7/5): Nice and comfortable - Beautiful hotel in lovely surroundings, bed was lovely and comfortable and my room was spacious The spa facilities let it down massively, it’s in desperate need of a refurb the jacuzzi was cold and the pool was very cold. Steam room was nice and warm but was very disappointed
- Samantha (6/5): - I don't think I will return. It's very tired especially the pool,sauna area. Needs a refurb.
The bar area is like sitting in a doctors waiting room, very quiet so we ended up having a drink in our room. The food was good.
- Leonard (7/5): Apart from the spa , everything was ok - Accessibility. Pool cold & jacuzzi , you had to pay to get the hot tub outside .
- Tracy (6/5): Adequate for one night - Location Bed really uncomfortable. Bathroom drains smelt bad!
- Y3676PGcarolep (10/5): New manager sweeps clean - Im not one to leave reviews but i just have to on this occasion. I have been a member of Body Scene for a number of years and, sad to say have witnessed its decline if late.HOWEVER, what a change iver the last two days, spotless showers, pool and pool area are amazingly clean. The gym, total makeover, clean, tidy and everything working as it should, so impressive. Got to give credit in particular to Lee and his team for the transformation, absolutely brilliant and a pleasure to attend here . Thanks Lee, keep it up.

- Sarah (7/5): - Close to where we wanted to visit. Staff were friendly and helpful Slightly dated and tired looking. Needs some redecorating
- Tomasz B. (7/5): - Twee kamers met deuren ertussen.... Hygiënisch was niet goed geregeld. Voor 4 mensen waren maar twee grote handdoekken. Eerst waren kamer niet open, kart werkte niet, dit opgelost.

- Guest (10/5): -

- Andrea (9/5): - Location and cleanliness Menu in restaurant limited choices
- Stephen (7/5): Ok but staff shortage - Comfortable Not enough staff on bars
- Charlotte (6/5): Fine - Staff in restaurant looked over several time and left me standing there alone for ages
Reception very friendly
Shame the spa treatments were closed due to health and safety
Spoons on tea tray were flighty and sticky, telephone in room needs a good clean, hairs in bath
- Mark (9/5): -
- Jessie (8/5): -
- Liz (10/5): - The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were a reasonable size. The bathroom was clean. It had complimentary toiletries and plenty of towels. There wasn't a plug near the bed in our room which is needed for cpap machine so we had to move the bed.
- Donna (7/5): -
- 44karynk (4/5): Swimming pool is freezing - We stayed on bank holiday weekend at Easter as we were visiting yorkshire wildlife park and we were very disappointed with the leisure facilities. We booked this hotel purely for the pool for our daughter, we wanted to arrive on the Sunday and have the afternoon in the pool then an evening meal before our trip the next morning. On arrival we got no information on facilities breakfast times etc.. when we got to the pool again the staff which we were told was a cleaner covering didn't give any info about needing a pound for the lockers or opening times or anything. The pool was the coldest pool I have ever been in and I have visited lots of hotels. I could only cope for 5 mins my daughter lasted a bit longer but we watched many come and go. You have nowhere to sit around the pool and the Jacuzzi wasn't on at all due to no staff I think, I still didn't get an answer. It was a total waste of time going to use the pool as it was unbearable to be honest. I chatted to a few leisure club members who said they have raised this many times and not been listened too at all which is disappointing. The room was basic but ok and clean but the breakfast was not good either again we wanted a good breakfast for the day trip ahead but it was cold and not a lot of choice at all, I had to wait 10 mins for beans to be done so the rest of my food was really cold by then. The pastry selection and fruit etc.. was terrible and cold coffee I heard a few people complaining about this. Overall disappointing for a little family trip away and I would not return. It's a shame as it looks great and the grounds are fab.
- paul (4/5): - The hotel is in a nice area and rooms are clean and comfortable. The swimming pool is freezing and the jacuzzi is very rarely on and is also very cold. The leisure facilities really let this hotel down and this was the main reason for booking thus hotel. I was very disappointed with this and so was my daughter.
- Audrey (10/5): -
- David (7/5): - Breakfast was very good plenty of it The staff were not very helpful or friendly
- Wadik (1/5): - A big corner sticking out . My wife hite her dead on it. Wast of money. Will never stay at that hotel again. They won't even listen to my complaint. We just felt after a hour.
- Richard (8/5): Very pleasant and comfortable. Helpful staff - History of the old building Nothing
- Nigel (10/5): - The rooms were A1 Two way staff radio's on loud ear piece would solve this problem
- Mobile19119688811 (8/5): 4 out of 5 - first visit - Stayed at this hotel the past few nights with my mum and dad.
I am going to be scoring it 4 out of 5 here on Tripadvisor 👍
Below I will list the positives and the negatives:
Positives:
*Room was nice size for the 3 of us.
*Room cleaning and restocking good 👍
*Car parking has lots of space, we were never at risk of not getting a space.
*Gym was spacious, one of the biggest hotel gyms I have seen, lots of machines available.
*Nice size pool and changing rooms.
*Sauna and steam room open every day with no faults/closures.
*Staff members we came across were always polite and professional.
Negatives:
*The handrail near the gym entrance door was wobbly, as it is something that is meant to assist people with their mobility, ideally this should be fixed.
*The pool was quite cold and the air temperature in the pool’s changing rooms was quite cold. I know that this would save money and energy, but whilst it was OK for us, it might be uncomfortable for families with young kids.
*A poster in the room informed us that we should be able to access BT Sport on the room’s TV, we were not able to access BT Sport, we asked the receptionist for assistance but the receptionist didn’t know how to help us access BT Sport.
*When we wanted to check out, there was no one staffing reception, so dad had to go ask a staff member from the restaurant to come help us check out.
These negatives are why I am marking this establishment 4 out of 5.🙏
- Barry (9/5): - Superb in every way, would not stay anywhere else when in that part of the country.
- Emma (7/5): - Was perfect for a quick stop over I felt the room wasn't as clean as it could have been. And although a little dated . You can see they're doing work on improving them as smell of fresh paint on windows and window ledge
- martin (7/5): Would go again but sort the spa pool out - Had good gym facilities, room was clean, shower was great. The spa pool was the coldest spa pool we’ve ever been I. It was colder than the main pool a point that several other guests also mentioned.
- Woodger (10/5): -
- gemmabB1757QJ (10/5): Highly recommended. - Went here for our special day on Sunday. Everything ran smoothly, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for helping, bring together our special day. A special thanks to Tom M and Cassie.
