- CATHERINE (9/5): Beautiful hotel, we will be back - The room was really lovely - large, nicely furnished, beautiful bedding and great views. The bathroom was also excellent and we loved the quality complementary bathrobe/slippers and toiletries. All the staff were lovely - welcoming, friendly and helpful. The main restaurant wasn't open so we only had the club restaurant available. There was a massive telly showing the golf and live music that was too loud. Food was fine but nothing special. Absolutely fine as a 19th hole but not really what we wanted and didn't match the quality of the accommodation.
- sanian (6/5): Not what was expected! - Visited recently for afternoon tea which was, in itself, pleasant enough......especially the sandwiches. Waiting staff were well drilled in their duties and kept their presence to the minimum. However, what was on offer in no way resembles what is presented in pictures and description on the website. Perhaps this could be updated so that clients get what is advertised? In addition there was a strong smell of adhesive in the restaurant which didn't contribute in a positive way to the ambiance and left me with a running nose and watery eyes. Maybe I should have asked it but maybe management should have a notice in view explaining that there was work taking place. Still deciding If I'll return.

Food obviously prepared well in advance as sandwich bread and focaccia soggy. I did request 1 vegetarian selection, and no seafood, no difference between any of the afternoon teas, choice beef chicken, salmon and egg. (No effort to separate the vegetarian option from the meat all on the same plate.) Only given some cream and jam, no butter, doesn't really go with a cheese scone. Coffee very weak and lukewarm. Sweet treats were nice.

- W7564FOmaryc (4/5): Last minute cancellation!! - Booked an afternoon tea for 2 at the start of March booked for 25th March notified them on booking about my nut allergy which was noted & was also on my email so was very surprised to get a phone call on the afternoon of 24th March cancelling the booking as the chef could not guarantee no nuts . Three weeks to decide to tell me I couldn’t go not a very good impression for a Hotel . I have never been to Murryshall & now I will never want to go . The girl that called me was very apologetic but that did not help me .

- Lesley (8/5): Lovely country estate - Lovely venue and grounds beautiful estate. Food was lovely when it arrived, waited 2 hours for evening meal, they advised us of delay as they were renovating kitchen and they had another large booking but was an excessive time to wait. Bed was comfortable and staff were friendly and hard working. Had Tipping Point on the telly whilst getting ready and one of the prizes was a weekend in Murrayshall Country Estate! That was a coincidence and will be a great prize for the winners. We were there for a wedding in another venue but it would be a lovely venue for a wedding. Lots of choice for breakfast but food wasn't that hot however had choice of scrambled or poached eggs but because poached eggs were being kept warm quickly become over cooked. No beans! Water didn't drain away in the shower which isn't the best.
- T1178MBcraigc (8/5): Nice wee night away - We stayed at Murrayshall luxury pods for 1 night. A lovely estate with a nice golf course. The estate had the hotel, and also luxury pods. Our pods was clean, today and fresh. Nice bit now tech to control the heating and blinds. The bed was very comfortable and cosy. The only negative was that it would be beneficial if there was a black out curtain or blind for the door as the current blinds let in a good amount of natural light. There is parking near the pods also. We had breakfast which had lost of choice and was tasty. Would I come back again, definitely.
- 283SueH (4/5): Not quite Fawlty Towers but only because Basil was off playing golf. - Really pleased with our choice on first impressions. Lovely location and grounds with a very welcoming staff at front of house. Bedroom was massive as we had requested a room for easy accessibility. However, the heat was “tropical” in the room with no controls working to control the temperature .Staff informed but problem persisted as it needed fixed ie some money spent on it. The real problem was the catering. There were two large groups in and for some reason we had come “ second” in priority. This was despite the fact that we had children badly needing fed. We had to wait for well over an hour before any food arrived with little in the way of an apology and no bread or snacks offered during the wait. The only time the service improved was when the bill was being paid which was expected to be paid in “ full” and included a significant service charge due to us being a large group. There was no offer of any discount by the “ person in charge” which should have occurred. However, we did pay the full amount as the problems in this hotel are clearly “ systemic” and not the fault of the poor hardworking staff having to work in this environment. These problems continued with breakfast the following two days eg tepid water for tea , diluted orange juice etc I would not recommend this establishment to anyone until they get these problems sorted out and spend some money on better management and equipment.

- elainecK5463NT (6/5): Disorganised / Shambolic service - One night weekend stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Card and some mints left for us in the room - nice touch. Food at dinner and drinks very good, however, service seemed a little chaotic. Building work being carried out on Kitchens so they have set up temporarily in portacabins. Seemed to be an awful lot of staff just milling about or standing chatting (training maybe). Weren’t offered the food specials and only found out about them after we had finished our meal. Friend had telephoned the hotel on the Monday prior to our stay to ask for a gift voucher for £100 to be left in our room. This wasn’t done and it was only by chance that we found out that this had been arranged! Friend had to phone to remind. Poor show. Breakfast, what can I say about that?! Don’t think I have ever had such a bad breakfast. 🙈I am at a loss as to how this could be so disastrous! No tea and coffee served- had to stand in a queue to get tepid water. Machine needed to heat up after each attempt. ‘hot’ 🤣 breakfast items were not hot!!! Luke warm if you were lucky and trays were empty a lot of the time with people queuing again! Utterly shambolic. Really has put us off arranging another visit.

- Neil (6/5): Pleasant but interior in need of update now. - Proximity to golf course (not playing on this occasion) Short walks Views form some rooms Kitchen being refurbished so some food was below par. Attention to detail could be better. Table cloths, candles etc would be nice. Felt at times too much like a golf club house. Which is fine if you are a golfer perhaps. By all accounts there are 5 kinds of manager on site (3 or 4 different businesses operating?) but do any have an eye for detail. Perhaps things will improve when the restaurant is back open.
- gordonascott (6/5): Outdoor pursuits great, food a let down - We had a morning doing quad biking, archery and axe throwing. There were six of us, split into two groups of three. The quad biking was a great experience, covering a wide area of the estate, getting up to decent speed, up and down hill. The archery was great, very competitive. The axe throwing was ok for a few throws until we decided we were all rubbish so went back to the archery. All of this watched over by the instructors who did a great job and were good guys, enjoying the banter as well. I would definitely recommend doing this. I would give this six stars out of six. After this we went for lunch, a sandwich and soup which sounded good. The sandwich was ok, just ok but the soup was dreadful, tasting sour. When I asked the waitress if she could ask the chef why it tasted sour we waited a long time for an answer. The waiting staff and manager were all talking amongst themselves, looking over at us then talking some more. No one came over to us to answer our query. I had to ask the waitress what the chef said. She mumbled something about the stock he uses. I told her that when soup tastes sour it usually means it’s off. We were told that it was only made a couple of days ago. This still wasn’t a great answer. We were however given our drinks, 6 of them, complimentary. Which kind of says - yeah, the soup was off. 2 stars for the food, one for the free drinks. Definitely going back to do the quad bikes but will be staying away from the restaurant.
- hc1401 (8/5): Recommended hotel - I had a pleasant stay in Murrayshall. The location and grounds all seem lovely, albeit i barely saw it in daylight! Check in was friendly and prompt. Public areas were pleasant. There was a lovely old room with an open fire which was a nice place to sit. The bedroom was large and was clean and comfortable. It would seem to have been recently decorated and seemed fitted to a high standard. Usual extra amenities were all provided. The bathroom was similarly large and nicely appointed. Breakfast was fine....perhaps not as much choice as i thought there might be in terms of for example fruit/granola etc. Evening meal was pleasant. There were plenty of guests in the dining room and so it added to the atmosphere. The food was good and service was of a high standard.

Had to ask 2 times for water, no top up on tea and coffee, dirty cutlery and very slow service. Table behind us queried that their soup tasted sour and the waitress had an attitude about it when she returned from kitchen and offered them chips? The manager was lovely and came over to explain each item and the food was delicious for the most part but clearly had been sitting out waiting to go as three afternoon tea stands for three different tables came out at once and we all had arrived at different times. Our sausage rolls only warm and cream melted. Not one staff member came to check on us and when we left no one even said goodbye. Unfortunately wont be back or reccomend to friends and family.

All three tables next to us were similarly needing attention. Tea was not very hot. The foccacia seemed raw/uncooked (it was like a part-baked baguette consistency and wet, as though it had just been defrosted). Two of the scones were stale. Clotted cream was actually a melting whipped cream. Jam not homemade. Generally not good.

I would definitely recommend the treatments available based on my experience. Service in the restaurant was a bit chaotic. Had to wait almost an hour from finishing starter and getting our main course. Food was decent when it arrived. Breakfast was ok, very slow at replenishing the hot buffet food.

The manager can with 3 sausages when I had finished eating so I just took one. It would have been nice to have my cooked breakfast together. Disappointing as we had stayed twice before and did not have the same experience. I hope they haven’t lost their touch!!!

- Oz-Amanda (8/5): Country Comfort - Charming old building in lovely setting. Upon arrival they couldn't initially find our reservation due to a new system, but eventually things were sorted. Our room was a Fairway Suite in the main house which we booked for a birthday stay. The room itself was very nice and spacious and in good condition, but unfortunately we faced an internal courtyard. Another issue was we had booked for three family members, and even though the sofabed was made up there was only 2 cups and 2 glasses in the room and two robes. There was also a used robe left in the bathroom from previous guests. They had thoughtfully left a birthday card in the room but it had the wrong name on it! There seemed to be a lack of attention to detail. We had also booked an afternoon tea for my birthday and there was also some confusion over our booking for this. I had only confirmed everything the week before. The afternoon tea itself was pleasant enough but service was friendly though a little disorganised. Unfortunately due to bad weather we were unable to enjoy the grounds or any activities. Breakfast was in their attractive main dining room with a small continental selection and a cooked buffet. All in all a pleasant stay but not 4*.

The view from the bedroom was very good for the soul! My room was small and the shower was a little cramped with a lower-pressure shower. There was a persistent noise (we think it was an extractor fan in another room that kept a few of us away, close to room 27.

- Alan (10/5): Amazing setting exactly as a proper hotel should be. - My wife and I have stayed here many times over 20+ years. It is 2 years since our last stay and we were very impressed. The restaurant has improved. We are fish dishes in the restaurant and had breakfast of well which all the food was very good. All the staff we encountered were very polite and friendly. We booked a suite which was spotless and very spacious. Our communal gripe was the WiFi was shocking but staff agreed and that it was to be changed very soon. Overall it was excellent and we will stay there again. WiFi

The addition of a 10% service charge onto the price of a pint was definitely touching the top end of value for money but other than this everything else was excellent.

- gtmcc (6/5): Overnight stay - We were very much looking forward to an overnight stay without the children after what had been a particularly hectic festive period. Driving through the estate was a lovely experience, with beautiful snowy scenery, and the building itself looks very grand and impressive from the outside. We had booked the Lynedoch Suite, including breakfast. On check-in, we were greeted by a pleasant member of staff who provided our keys and explained that our room was located in the adjacent building, accessible via a path. While the path had been salted, sections had refrozen due to the cold Scottish weather, so care was required when walking. Our suite was located up a set of stairs with key access. On first entering, the room appeared nice, and a definite positive was how spacious it was. However, once we settled in, we noticed several issues that I would not expect from a four-star hotel, particularly when staying in a suite. There were cobwebs hanging from the bedroom ceiling, and the coffee machine itself was very dirty. In the bathroom, both the loft hatch and the door had visible dirty black marks, which further detracted from the overall cleanliness of the room. Beside the coffee machine were two bottles of water—one filled to the top and the other only half full. As these were not sealed bottles, this raised concerns that they may not have been replaced after previous guests. While I appreciate the environmental considerations of reusable bottles, there should be a clear way to indicate that they are fresh for each guest. Additionally, the number of coffee pods provided seemed inconsistent, with space for four but only three available. The décor of the room was pleasant, and the views were lovely. It was also nice to be able to open the window and hear the stream below. However, given the size of the suite, I would have expected certain amenities to be included, such as a fridge and basic traveller essentials (e.g. shower caps). I was surprised these were not provided. We had dinner at the Cairns restaurant and could not fault the food in any way. My husband and I both ordered the same dish, and we would go as far as to say the Wagyu beef burger was the best we have ever had. It was cooked to perfection, and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. We shared a chocolate mousse for dessert, which was also delicious. Following such a fantastic dinner, we had very high expectations for breakfast, but unfortunately felt disappointed. The breakfast dining room is lovely, with stunning views. We opted for the continental selection alongside two cooked Scottish breakfasts. I had a small bowl of cereal but was unable to finish it, as the milk had an unusual taste. We were also disappointed to find that the fruit juices were not fresh but from cartons, tasting overly sweet. The coffee from the machine was similarly underwhelming, and the pastries did not appear to be freshly baked. The cooked breakfasts were served on hot plates, which was appreciated, and the quality of the ingredients looked good; however, the sausage was cold and the potato scone was only lukewarm, making it difficult to fully enjoy the meal. We settled our bill and checked out shortly after breakfast. Overall, our stay was okay. On the surface, everything appears good: the staff were very pleasant, the room was spacious, and dinner was outstanding. However, beneath the surface, there were several areas that fell below expectations, including cleanliness, room amenities, and breakfast quality. As a result, I personally struggle to view the hotel as exceeding a three-star standard rather than the four-star rating it holds.

From the minute we arrived, for lunch in the main restaurant, to leaving the next morning, we were treated like Royalty. Despite being 2 hours early, as our room was ready, the reception team allowed us to check in while we were eating lunch. The room was extremely spacious with fantastic views. Very comfortable. We had a spa treatment (massage) in the evening and that was divine. The therapist was very friendly and got to the spots which needed unknotting. We had a snack in the bar - the hotel Christmas decorations throughout the hotel were outstanding. Breakfast again absolutely wonderful. Prior to arriving, the reception team were very helpful with recommending dining options, and arranging spa treatments. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely choose this as a place to stay.
- Jackie (10/5): Perth's Creme de la Creme Hotel - The whole hotel has a very special feel to it. The views from the front of the hotel (entering from the golf course) are stunning. We enjoyed those views while eating in Cairns, one of the 3 restaurants at the hotel. Easy to find once coming off the motorway and into the beautiful countryside. We had a very warm welcome and the hotel's Christmas decorations were outstanding. The room itself was very spacious and comfortable. We chose one of the more superior rooms and we were not disappointed by spending that extra money. The spa treatments added to our overall enjoyment. The food lunch in Cairns, snack in Barossa Bar and breakfast in the other restaurant were all great. Seriously cannot fault anything. Absolutely nothing. I would go back any time.

The pod was very clean, modern and amenities were great! We decided to go to the hotel for drinks and something to eat. We were served by Adriana who couldn’t have been more lovely. The drinks were great and we ordered pizzas to take back to the pod with us - these were delicious! Would definitely recommend to anyone considering staying here. We had the best time!

Some of the food was okay (canapes) but vastly overpriced and with no sense of passion from the chef/s. The dining environment is cold, clinical and uninviting. The ladies' toilet was filthy and seats were hanging loose. We were expecting something pretty special but were hugely disappointed. Pretentious and then some.
