Guest Reviews
- Irache (10/5): - El trato Todo me gusto
- Neil (4/5): Not worth the money or drive - Close to beach On booking: breakfast provided, but only small portions of pineapple/ papaya, bread/ coffee, then they ask you if you want to pay for a breakfast!!!
Pool area ground needs updating
Stairs need a real railing , not rope
No small refrigerator in room, ice
Only 1 chair in room, no table to work on or play a game
Lounge chairs need updating/ pads
No snack food ( potato chips/ peanuts, etc
- Leopoldo (10/5): Secluded gem in the pacific ocean. - Very clean and confortable. Right at the beach and you practically have the beach and the pool for you alone as the Hotel is remote. The remoteness of the hotel. A rental vehicle is a must.
- Magda (10/5): A warm, welcoming atmosphere, delicious food, attentive staff, and a stunning location - The hotel staff was friendly and helpful — they respond quickly to emails and inquiries.
I really enjoyed the food. I love their coconut shrimp and the way they prepare the tuna. The hotel had a family-like atmosphere, yet every guest had their own space. The location is fantastic!
I really like this hotel and will definitely return. -
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Annette (9/5): Isolation at its finest. Perfect chill location on the sea. A must! - Freida, the dog. The food was simply delicious. My complements to the chef! Reta, the owner, was extremely accommodating. His staff were superb. We had to leave 😩.
- Stean (10/5): Exceptional - The Manta Raya Hotel is an absolute Gem! After reflecting on any of the negative comments/reviews we read prior to experiencing the hotel, it is clearly obvious to me that people have very different wants and needs from a vacation hotel. If you don't like a little adventure in your vacation journey, experiencing a bit of culture and are looking for a lively beach and nightlife atmosphere, this is not the place for you.
The journey to the hotel is slightly off the beaten path and has some bumps in the road which is also unique and interesting, to look into the lives of people living in this small community. If you are looking for a charming, quiet, relaxed atmosphere at a incredibly beautiful and unique location, this is the place for you.
The Hotel staff are warm, inviting and caring. Rooms are large and comfortable The food is wonderful. The complimentary breakfast of fruits, fresh baked breads, homemade jams, and fresh juice was ample for us. Any other traditional breakfast items outside what was complimentary were available to order at a very reasonable cost. Dinners each night were excellent, we chose the fresh fish dinner each night, Awesome! The beach is great! A nice beach for a small walk explore some rocks and tidal pools on either end and white sand with a swimmable light surf in the middle. Great sunsets.
- WIFI worked well
- Pool is great
- AC was great
- Everything was clean including facility bathrooms
We enjoyed the Manta Raya so much we came back later in our trip just to hang out and enjoy a lunch. Can't wait to comeback again soon. Could use a couple more direction signs, as we drove in the dark. TRAVELLER TIP- download the directions to the hotel prior, as there is a couple spots where cell service jumps in and out.
- Maciej (10/5): Amazing, secluded, peaceful, decadent - A truly exceptional place if you're looking for peace and quiet! To us, the location was perfect: right on the beach, with a lovely stretch of ocean and literally no-one else around most of the time; though there are some other accommodations there, the beach still felt super private, and we mostly saw people at meal times (as Manta Raya also has the only restaurant in the immediate vicinity). Great food, with new dinner options daily, nice bar - with prices similar to upmarket restaurants in Mexican cities. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating. The whole place literally shuts down at 10 PM, so you can really recuperate from the bustle of pretty much everywhere else in Mexico (though it's not far from other, livelier beaches, towns, and some attractions, and the hotel can arrange transport - we, however, felt no need to use this option throughout our short stay). It might not be a bad idea to put a fresh coat of paint here and there at this point, but this is really nitpicking :)
- Gabriel (10/5): Exceptional - The Food was delicious! Location quiet and beautiful! And the staff were all amazing and so kind!
- Eddy (10/5): The Perfect Spot - Excellent location, a lot of tranquility, an unmatched atmosphere of peace and relaxation, delicious food, one of the best cuisines in the entire state. and above all the owner's attention to detail, thank you Reto and staff for all your attention Not being able to extend my vacation any longer
- Donna (10/5): Paradise! Hidden gem of a hotel with wonderful hosts, delicious food and spectacular beach! - Salchi is a tiny little town with one of the most beautiful beaches ever! White sand, little shells, and somewhat swimmable. We pretty much had the beach to ourselves! The most people we saw was maybe 10?! It can have some big waves when the wind is up, but we managed to get some snorkeling in during the calm and saw some wonderful marine life.
The food is delicious! Every meal was fantastic! We were so spoiled!! Fernanda surprised us with dinner on the beach for a birthday celebration and WOW was it a wonderful meal, atmosphere and service.
The room had a spectacular view, was clean, comfortable (chairs and hammock on the deck overlooking the ocean), quiet and private.
What stands out the most was our hosts - the level of service provided to us, and every other guest, was impeccable. They made us feel welcome and like long time friends.
A hidden piece of paradise and highly recommend the Manta Raya!! We loved everything!
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sean (10/5): We didn't want to leave. - This small boutique hotel is incredible -- beautiful beach, nice staff, great food. Nothing really! Some people may be dissuaded because it's so remote. It's at the end of a dusty, bumpy road. But that meant that the beach was practically empty every day.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not quite what was expected! - Excellent service!
Although had directions how to get there it was quite a challenge. They need to provide better and more visible signage! It was just an ok stay
- Eduardo (10/5): Just like paradise -
- Tobias (8/5): Wonderful quiet place on the beach - Manta Ray is a wonderful hotel off the beaten track. The hotel has wonderful rooms with Seaview, the restaurant is excellent with an international cuisine. The owner and chef happily tries to accommodate specific wishes. The beach is right there, nice sand, water is warm. Also good swimming pool. The waives are relatively high and break close to the beach. No phone cover but excellent wifi. A number of other restaurants are nearby. The only thing I found negative was that this hotel does not allow paying directly via Hotels.com and does not accept credit cards. Payment either as cash or via PayPal with an extra surcharge. A deposit is needed to secure the booking. Given that there are many scammers out there, we found it stressful to pay in advance via PayPal to somenbody we do not know. I
- Betsy (10/5): Big rooms w/stunning views& amazing staff. - Peaceful, with only the sound of the waves, birds & cicada at night- a welcome contrast to other towns w/loud music, vehicles, etc. The staff were exemplary- a very happy crew who are obviously treated with the respect they deserve by the kind owner, Reto. The food was sublime- varied & beautifully presented, many of the ingredients from the onsite garden. We hated to leave! Can't think of anything!
- Judith (8/5): Lovely stay, loved the vibe - We loved the location on the beach, very relaxing away from the hustle and bustle. Amazing sunsets. Breakfast is simple, but enough and delicious. Food at the restaurant is absolutely amazing at reasonable price. Attentive staff, clean rooms. Beautiful beach, very clear clean water. The noise carries through the concrete building a bit (upstairs neighbours kept moving furniture late at night). Ocean is a bit rough, but still very swimmable and fun to enjoy. Last 1.5 km of road to get to Manta Raya is a sand road, but very doable even in a small car.
- Kathy (10/5): Exceptional - Great staff
Friendly clean hotel ideal location We booked last room available, main floor I would higher floor if available
This was disclosed at booking so I knew what to expect and was fine
- John (10/5): - Beautiful view, remote location
- Frank (10/5): - Location
- Alfredo (8/5): - Everything was wonderful. Only wishes it was a bit closer to beach attractions.
- Michael (10/5): Secluded beachfront luxury - We had a wonderful time at Manta Raya. Its in a fantastic location off the beaten track on Salchi beach. Our room was huge with a balcony with table and chairs and hammock looking out to the beach - a fantastic place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Matching and possibly exceeding the location was the service we received from the staff, particularly Fernanda who went out of her way to look after us including an unexpected dinner on the beach. The food was delicious with quality Vegan options provided for every meal, not just as an after thought. Highly recommended!
- Renate (6/5): Lovely location, amazing menu for ala carte dinner and great area, loved the peaceful ambience. - The breakfast was very basic and very little selection to choose from, but the coffee was outstanding. Location amazing and welcome by Reto was great. The bed was very uncomfortable and small for two people. We we were on ground level Room #1, which we were aware of. But were only told when I asked for a quiet room and then found out our room was next to the kitchen.
- Bernarda (6/5): - Humm, no comments. ????
- Gladys (10/5): Just lovely for the two fo us. - I loved this place! It was recommended by someone and it was the perfect way to finish our vacation to Huatulco. It felt private, but we could walk to the little community nearby, or adjacent beaches. The staff were first class - friendly, helpful and it felt truly interested in making our stay perfect. The food was excellent. The beach in front of the Manta Raya is beautiful - we even saw turtle tracks on the beach. The ocean could get a bit rough, but my partner swam everyday. From the hammock on the deck, to the stunning location and welcoming atmosphere, I happily recommend the Manta Raya. It is off the beaten path though on Salchi Beach, so this isn't the place to be if you want to go downtown for shopping or nightlife. This is a beautiful little getaway spot! There wasn't anything I didn't like. It is more secluded though - so be prepared for that.
- Jones (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): Best part of our Extended vacation - Beautiful property, secluded location, wonderful staff, comfortable clean spacious room, everything you need on property- also other great restaurants close by. Need signs once you get to dirt road- if arriving by taxi no problems.
- Marius (10/5): Exceptional - Nice view, calm and clean The rooms are gorgeous
- Esau (10/5): - I had a great time staying here in September. The ocean view from my room was amazing and the sound of the waves was wonderful. The food was deliciously prepared by a local lady who was super friendly. Alan, the manager was awesome and helped me with my car that was stuck on the muddy road due to the rain. Amazing experience all around!
- Kristin (10/5): The perfect beachfront hideaway - The service and location were amazing. The owner and staff were friendly, kind, and helpful. The location was steps from the beach.
- Virginia (10/5): - The beach is beautiful and the room was large and comfy. Great balcony too. The food is very good but basically the restaurant is your only option since the hotel is isolated and the road is a challenge. And the food is not cheap compared with your average Mexican restaurant. Personally, i would have liked to have a fridge for snacks and drinks. But a really beautiful and peaceful setting.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great beach hotel - Very relaxed hotel on a beautiful, isolated beach, great for disconnecting. The waves at the beach were too rough to swim during our stay, but still beautiful to watch and relax. The staff at the hotel was friendly and helpful, they organized taxis and tours to nearby towns and beaches. Food at the restaurant was excellent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Managers and staff very friendly, like being at home with family.
The place is beautiful and excellent to relax.
Gourmet mixed with Mexican food delicious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing place. Swiss owned and run as you’d expect. Location is stunning. Food is excellent and dining on the patio is delightful. My girlfriend had a special request at dinner - handled with a deft touch. We’ll be back!
- MatthewLepp (10/5): - We had an amazing stay at Manta Raya and would definitely like toreturn. The experience was very well organized by the staff from the moment we made the booking to the moment we left the property. The hotel is located directly on a beautiful beach located in a small cove. The beach is very quiet and most of the time we were the only people on it. We were able to swim in the ocean which was great. The waves break on the shore and it becomes deep quite fast so if you are not a strong swimmer it may be difficult to enjoy the water. Luckily there is a pool right in front of the hotel which we also enjoyed. The food and service was excellent - we looked forward to each meal and were impressed with everything we ate and drank. Kudos to the kitchen and serving staff! We also loved the fact we could enjoy snacks and drinks on the beach and being able to run a tab made it so much easier. Reto was very organized and made sure our stay was good. Salchi and Manta Raya are a slice of paradise and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to simply RELAX for a few days.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything is to like about Manta Raya... intimate Paradise - very attentive personalized service - food outstanding!!!! Staff simply amazing!!! This place and location fit is like a glove!!!! Cheers to Reto and staff!!!! See you next year!!!!
- Steven (10/5): Lovely little hideaway - Super communicative team running the hotel. The food was great and the space was lovely and very quiet. Remote and peaceful!
- Meredith (10/5): Paradise Found - It's a piece of paradise! Quiet bay with even quieter beaches nearby. Outstanding food and service. We felt like we were at home!
- Roxanne (10/5): - The atmosphere, the staff, our view from our room...everything was amazing! The staff made us feel incredibly catered to and special. Many thanks to Reto, Grady, Kim and Ilrena for the services that were provided on our vacation. Also the house pets. Mancha and Pedro were adorable! A special thank you to Grady for our spectacular meals ...everything we ate was wonderfully delicious! This is the place to stay, a small slice of heaven on earth!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quiet hotel excellent. Staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): This is a great beach getaway - I'm happy join the chorus of fans of the Manta Raya. This is a fantastic beach hotel to disconnect by the beach and relax. Staff are attentive and very pleasant, and the food is awesome (try the habanero salsa!). Note the surf on the beach can be rough (not swimmable during our stay) and there is a somewhat bumpy dirt road to the property so it is a good idea to drive a car with high clearance or take a taxi.
- Malisa (10/5): Perfect intimate hotel - This was one of the best places I have ever stayed for peaceful relaxation. The food cannot be beat. Every meal was delicious perfection. The room was clean and comfortable with a fantastic view. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful and never got frustrated with our almost non existent Spanish. Loved every minute!
