Verangika (5/5): Good staff, NOT really a five-star hotel!!! - The only positive aspect of my stay was the staff. They were attentive, pleasant, and did their best despite the condition of the hotel( including Asela and Chamal, from the front desk and the restaurant). If you are looking for a true five-star hotel experience, this is definitely not it. The hotel is run-down, and the common toilets were leaking, with heavily wet floors and even dead cockroaches on the floor. I stayed in the ocean-view suite with my daughter. The room had an unpleasant unused smell, and when one of the bathtub taps was turned on, water leaked everywhere. The intercom was also not working, which meant my daughter had to repeatedly go to the front desk for information and assistance. The Wi-Fi information was not provided at check-in, and my daughter had to go to the front office to collect the Wi-Fi code. Even then, it only worked on one mobile phone and could not be connected to my computer or laptop. When I informed the front office that the intercom was not functioning, the staff member simply said they were already aware of it. At that point, I did not bother complaining further, as we were staying only for one night and it seemed the staff themselves knew the hotel was poorly maintained. There was no room dining menu available, as there was no buffet for either dinner or breakfast. Had to ask thi too. During both breakfast and evening tea, it was only my daughter and me there, and the hotel felt almost completely empty. Overall, the experience was far below what would be expected from a five-star hotel.

guillaume (3/5): Hôtel agréable, mais Attention aux tentatives d'escroqueries par le personnel de la réception - Immense piscine, restauration et personnel de restauration très bien C'est la premier fois au Sri Lanka que nous avons été arnaqué dans un hôtel. A la réception on a demandé qu'on nous réserve une voiture pour un court trajet mais à l'arrivée on nous a fait de payer plus de 3 fois la somme indiquée sur l'application Pick me et il a été impossible d'obtenir un reçu. Nous avons demandé des explications et nous n'avons rien obtenu. Même le manager, Mr Aseia, ne s'est pas excusé et n'a rien fait pour réparer le préjudice. Ce n'est pas l'argent, mais le sentiment d'avoir été floués qui nous a énormément déplu.

David (5/5): Beautiful location, friendly staff and good food, but the overall experience was weakened by mainten - The view from the rooms and the location right on the beach are truly lovely. The Indian Ocean rolls in endlessly, the beach goes on for miles, and it is almost completely empty — a perfect setting for peace and relaxation. That peace ends rather quickly once you step outside the hotel’s fenced area. You are promptly approached by locals who seem to materialize out of the bushes and claim to be the hotel’s lifeguards. In fact, they are mainly interested in selling transport services and similar arrangements, and they tend to struggle with the concept of a polite “no.” Other than that, the hotel staff are very friendly, and the food offers a generous selection of local cuisine. The accommodation is acceptable if you are comfortable staying in a hotel that is clearly in need of renovation. The hotel was also quite busy, with roughly 90% of the guests appearing to be Indian. There was mould on the bathroom wall, plaster was coming off the shower ceiling, and there were electrical issues as well. To the hotel’s credit, these specific problems were resolved with a room change. Less impressive was the fact that the wellness centre was “under maintenance” and unavailable throughout the stay — despite being part of the service I had paid for. My attempts to obtain a price reduction from management were unsuccessful. I was repeatedly assured from one day to the next that everything would be taken care of, which seemed to function more as a soothing phrase than an actual solution. Booking.com, at least, was willing to offer a partial refund.

From the very beginning, we felt genuinely welcomed and well looked after. A very special thanks to Mr. Asela for his exceptional kindness and dedication. As female tourists who do not speak the local language, we especially appreciated how he went out of his way to ensure our safety and comfort. His support gave us real peace of mind. He even kindly helped arrange the return of a charger we had forgotten at the hotel, which we truly appreciated. We are very grateful for the experience and would happily recommend this hotel.

Dmitrii (10/5): - Нам всё понравилось! Небольшой уютный, тихий, спокойный отель. Хотя в субботу много местных в него приезжает, проводят шумные корпоративы-тимбилдинги. В субботу, воскресенье и понедельник в ресторане играет живая музыка, в т.ч. русская. Музыкантам - огромное спасибо! Питание в ресторане достойное, есть и европейская кухня, и ланкийская (карри всех видов и цветов) - рыба в карри, курица в карри, баранина в карри, кальмары в карри, чечевица в карри, огурцы в карри, баклажаны в карри , овощное рагу в карри, манго в карри. Ну конечно же рис, лапша, паста и даже мини-пицца. На завтрак омлет/яичница по заказу. В субботу в ресторане готовят барбекью - креветки, кальмары, курица, овощи. В ассортименте фрукты: манго, ананасы, папайя, арбузы, бананы. Выпечка: на завтраке круассаны, слойки, кексы; на ужине пироженки, пудинги. На первом этаже номера Делюкс с прямым выходом с террасы к бассейну. На втором этаже номера Ocean view, но вход в них с первого этажа (в номере лестница). В Оушен Вью огромная ванная комната (фото # 1) с душевой, ванной, большим умывальником. В нашем номере не работал фен, но мы абсолютно не расстроились и даже не обращались на ресепшен насчёт него. Большой балкон с креслами и прекрасным видом на закат (фото #4). На третьем этаже номера "Президентский люкс", часть из них двухэтажные и собственным бассейном - это как объединëнные номера Делюкс и Оушен вью. С балкона второго этажа президентского номера отличный вид (фото #3). Мебель немного уставшая, матрасы жёсткие. Полотенца меняли каждый день, постельное бельё меняли раз в 3-4 дня. Ежедневно пополняли воду (0,5л/чел) и шампуньки/гели/лосьоны. В ТВ каналов много, русских каналов нет. Бассейн примерно 60 метров, из них "лягушатник" метров 10 и основная часть примерно 50 метров глубиной примерно 13-1,4 метра. В округе практически нет кафе, кроме "Тамара Блю Лобстера", один раз там пообедали сразу по приезду. Мелочи, которые немного портили настроение, но не критично. Надоедливые "экскурсоводы" на пляже - ловят за руку сразу по выходу из калитки отеля, все сносно говорят по-русски. Не работающий фен, жёсткие старые матрасы - пружины чувствуются. Старый шумный кондиционер без пульта, но зато не дует прямо в постель. Несколько раз пришлось менять ключ-карту входной двери - не срабатывал замок, не открывалась дверь, но всё решалось заменой карты в течении 3 минут. Вороны на территории, не бесят, но иногда хочется от них отдохнуть.
Christian (10/5): Gehobene 4* Hotel zur Weiterempfehlung - Riesen Suite mit Meerblick und Balkon mit extra separatem Eingang zu der ersten Etage hoch. Das Hotel befindet sich direkt am schönen, langen und breiten, fast leeren Strand. Es gibt auch ein großes Schwimmbad direkt vom Hotel. Tägliche Wäschewechsel mit Zimmer-Reinigung. Hervorragendes Buffetfrühstück und Buffetabendessen mit unfassbarer Auswahl! Wir sind innerhalb von 2 Wochen zum zweiten Mal hier. Es ist hier so ruhig und entspannend. Das ganze Personal ist sehr freundlich und aufmerksam, sodass man sich fühlt, wie ein König behandelt zu sein. Die Unruhe während 3 Nächte war auf die Nachbargäste hinzuführen.

Dominik (7/5): Joa…war okay - Das Personal war sehr freundlich! Unsere Anreise fiel auf weit nach Mitternacht. Wir sind trotzdem sehr herzlich empfangen worden. Das Restaurant war sehr gut mit großer Vielfalt beim Essen. Die Lage direkt am Strand war sehr schön Das Hotel ist ziemlich in die Jahre gekommen. Die Bilder sind sehr vorteilhaft. Alles in allem war es schon etwas runter gekommen. Das Personal gibt sich größte Mühe um Sauberkeit und Hygiene aber wenn etwas abgewohnt ist, ist es eben abgewohnt. Die Klimaanlage ist super laut, der Fahrstuhl ging nicht und streunende Hunde sind überall am Strand. Wäre an sich alles kein Problem aber bei 140€ pro Nacht erwarte ich was anderes…

Gebracht wurden ( Manager und die Damen am Empfang ) arbeiten sehr ineffizient…… Rest der Mitarbeiter bemüht und sehr freundlich. Badezimmer gross aber Lüftung funktionierte nicht roch nach Schimmel….

Kristina (8/5): Желаю процветания этому отелю. - Отличный отель за свои деньги. У нас вышел люкс с видом на море 112$ с ужином и завтраком. Бассейн прекрасный. Лежаков было всем достаточно. Что завтрак, что ужин был шведский стол. И ланкийская, и европейская еда. Все было очень вкусно. И, конечно, тишина. В этом отеле у нас была остановка после 5-дневного тура по острову, поэтому прекрасно релакснули. Этому отелю нужен рукастый handyman. Где-то плитку подклеить, где-то подкрасить. Пока еще все сносно, но из-за таких мелочей и разваливается потихоньку этот когда-то шикарный отель. И еще бы я добавила развлекательной программы. Людям, которые приезжают на неделю или 2, умрут со скуки. Можно поставить дартс, бильярд, бассейн позволяет провести аквааэробику, вечером танцевальную музыку включить. Знаю, для Шри-Ланки это практически не возможно, но, уверена, гости бы это оценили, так как в этой деревушке развлечений никаких особо и нет.
patricia (8/5): Je ne sais pas si j’y retournerai !! - Les chambres sont grandes et confortable. Une superbe piscine vue sur la mer.. Assez propre. Les chambres ne sont pas faites tous les jours. Les repas sont bons, mais souvent froid et quand il n’y a plus un plat (exemple de l’ananas )j’ai demandé plusieurs fois à des serveurs d’en remettre, mais au bout d’une heure toujours rien !!! Dommage !! Le personnel et très souriant mais pas efficace !!

Too far from everywhere. It’s great if you want just a beach holiday. They hadn’t renewed their liquor license and we didn’t get even a bottle of beer at the hotel. 4 star hotels do renew their license regularly.

The staff were excellent and very attentive, the buffet offered good v - Overall, we were very satisfied with our experience and really enjoyed our time at Grand Beach. The energy and service of the hotel staff truly stood out they all went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. The buffet offered a very good variety and was definitely worth the money. The pool was a good size and well maintained. Room conditions were okay and comfortable enough. We would happily come back again. A couple of things could be improved. There was an unpleasant smell outside around the gully areas, and our room bathroom had a few issues, including problems with flushing. Other than these points, we had a good overall experience.

HManu (9/5): Schönes Hotel zum Entspannen - Das Personal war super freundlich vom Service bis zum Gärtner. Die Zimmer waren sehr sauber. Es wurde einem sofort geholfen, wenn man ein Problem hatte. Bei uns war es das Ladegerät für das Handy. Wasserflaschen waren jederzeit kostenlos erhältlich. Das Buffet, am Wochende, war ausreichend und gut. Bei wenig Gästen, unter der Woche, stand eine Menükarte zur Auswahl. Der Pool ist sehr groß und es waren ausreichend Liegen vorhanden. Wie gesagt, es waren wenig Gäste im Haus. Uns hat es gefallen für den Preis. Haben noch 3 Tage dazu gebucht. Die Matratzen waren nicht gut. Drum herum sehr wenig Angebote.

Solveig (10/5): Wir wären sehr gerne länger geblieben und haben uns wohl gefühlt. - Wir hatten die Ocean-Suite und diese war tatsächlich außergewöhnlich sowohl von der Größe als auch von der Einrichtung. Vom Balkon hat man einen tollen Blick über den Ozean und auf den Poolbereich. Es ist ein ruhiger Standort - auch direkt am Strand gelegen. Alles war gut gereinigt - Pool und Garten wurden gut betreut. Das Restaurant zauberte herrlich hergerichtet Menüs. Am letzten Tag wurde unser Tisch nochmal extra dekoriert. Die Mitarbeiter waren alle ausgesprochen freundlich und hilfsbereit. Anton hat uns dann auch noch mit unseren Taxi geholfen und war immer gleich zur Stelle wenn wir Fragen oder Wünsche hatten. Am Strand vor der Unterkunft wird man schnell von Einheimischen bedrängt. Dafür kann das Hotel nicht - dieses ist umzäunt und hat einen Wachschutz.

Видно, что люди действительно стараются, чтобы каждому гостю было комфортно. Питание заслуживает особой похвалы: всё было очень вкусно и разнообразно. Хотя мы отдыхали не в сезон и вместо шведского стола была система à la carte, качество блюд и подача приятно удивили — всё на высшем уровне! Уборка в номере — безупречная, всегда чисто, аккуратно и уютно. В целом, мы остались довольны абсолютно всем и с удовольствием вернёмся сюда снова. Большое спасибо всему персоналу за теплое отношение и отличный сервис! 💛

I made my booking through Booking.com well in advance, but when I arrived on the check-in date, the staff told me that all rooms were already sold out. This was extremely frustrating, especially since it was a long weekend and I had planned my trip around this stay. To make matters worse, they never answered my calls when I tried to reach them for clarification. My entire weekend was wasted because of their poor management and lack of responsibility.

Dulari (5/5): It was really average and needs a lot of maintenance - It was an average experience. It's unfortunate because the location of this hotel is great and it has a lot of potential to do better but the place is extremely run down and not maintained properly. We had a suite and the sofa in the room has not been cleaned for ages as it had stains. We only received two pillows which is a bit strange for a suite and the room service was terrible. They were highly understaffed and there were flies in our room that made our life hell. The only good part was the French toast during breakfast but aside from that even the breakfast was quite average. I wish Wijaya Leisure actually took initiative to do better!

Teresa (6/5): Would suggest looking elsewhere - The pool area is beautiful, the pool is clean and has plenty of space for every guest for find a bed. Our room was upgraded upon arrival which was very nice of them, the room was huge, views to the sea, clean and very comfortable! Had all the ameneties. There was something very dodgy about this place (I’ll try to explain, photos attached).. while the pool area was beautiful, sitting by the pool felt like a zoo. Right outside the hotel’s fence, men would linger and stare at you all day, this made me extremely uncomfortable! I would have told security had I not seen him share drinks with them from the inside while they did their staring thing. Worst than this, is wanting to go to the actual beach and cross the fence, you have no way to escape them, they run right at you and try to sell things, and they’re very persistent, almost harassing! We tried going for a walk outside the hotel (through the opposite side of the beach) and again, we were harassed by men trying to sell god knows what, literally sticking to us and being quite rude, almost screaming at us to follow them. Super uncomfortable, not an area I would recommend. We were offered weed by the front door guard one night when we came back from dinner and the rest of the staff felt quite… disconnected from the guests.
Tomasz (6/5): Overall- no. - Overall, the hotel has great potential, but unfortunately, it is completely untapped. The hotel has two advantages: a large pool with an ocean view and all rooms offering ocean views—of course, the higher the floor, the better the view. And that’s where the positives end. There is no service at the hotel whatsoever. Rooms are not ready on time for check-in. Contrary to the descriptions, there is no bar at the hotel. The food is „so so”, and all three meals a day are almost the same. The hotel is located in the middle of nowhere. You have to provide your own drinks, snacks, and refreshments because there is no bar. There is mold on the walls. The hotel is also partially under renovation. Overall, I do not recommend it. For this price, you can find something better and in a much more interesting location.
Mark (7/5): Good place, in an area off the beaten track. - Good swimming pool, very spacious room, very clean, good location on a beach that isn’t overpopulated, not too crowded. Some of the staff were a little abrupt, others were super nice. Vegetarian options were a bit limited for Sri Lankan food, and I didn’t come here for ‘international’ cuisine. No service to organise onward travel - just told to go out the gate and get a tuk tuk.

Oksana (4/5): Very bad - Bathroom, personal at restaurant The hotel does not match its category, from the staff to the facilities. We arrived at 5 p.m., but we were not checked in for 40 minutes. And the lady at the reception didn't even think to explain what was going on. She held up her finger to my questions!!! showing that we should be silent at all. This is an extreme degree of bad manners. I don't understand how she working in her position at all. As a result, we left our luggage and went to visit friends, and checked in finally only at 10 pm. And we also had to persuade the manager to provide us with a late check-out the next day, he did not offer, but we did. There were only 2 bath towels and 1 foot towel in the room for 2 people. Is it 5 stars? There is no bathrobe, no slippers. A set of toilet accessories for only one person. And the condition of the bed linen is just terrible, everything is in puffs, some rags and the smell from the blanket is disgusting.

Grzegorz (8/5): Very good - We have spent lovely days in the facility. We travelled with two kids. The staff is always very helpful especially SuSantha & Sanjaya & Jagath. The swimming pool is huge and in March the water temperature is 32 degrees Celsius also the Ocean temperature is around 32 degrees Celsius. Beautiful Ocean view from each room. Easy access to the beach. The food is good quality and tasty, it doesn't change a lot day by day but always fresh and suitable for vegans or vegetarians. Please note that this hotel has different standard then European five star hotel.

Fraser (9/5): Heavenly Beach Resort - Great buffet, really spacious suites, very helpful & friendly staff, great beach with friendly cows 😂, Sanjay especially helpful. WiFi was a bit patchy, food changed to à la carte when quieter, aircon failed in my section. But the staff response to these challenges was great so I'd highly recommend. Shame so wet- but that's climate change for you...

Thanu (9/5): Oakray Beach Resort was a lovely one night stay. The luxury and ocean view hotel suites are beautiful and comfortable. F - I liked that it was quiet and private. I booked an ocean view room- the room was nice but the air conditioner wasn’t working properly. I called to inform the receptionist and I was kindly upgraded to a luxury suite by one of the staff named Sanjala, who was an excellent and professional host. The new room was lovely and comfortable, with a great view from the balcony of the sunset. I really liked the bathtub and spacious bathroom as well. The internet speed was fast, which was great because I was working remotely. I liked the long pool; and the easy access to the beach. The staff were friendly and hospitable; the kitchen staff even provided me with a Sri Lankan breakfast in morning upon my request. My first ocean view room had a faulty air conditioner but the staff weren’t aware until I let them know. however they dealt with it right away and upgraded me. Forewarning that it is a pretty isolated area- so it’s best for people who want quiet and privacy (which I did). There isn’t much else to do besides beach, pool, and ayurveda.
