Guest Reviews
- CHARLES (10/5): - Perfect Nothing
- Jarno (10/5): Great Stay With Lovely Hosts - The hosts, Angie and Garth, are the best! We felt so welcomed and loved our stay. Angie is a fantastic cook, so don't miss out on afternoon tea, canapes and an amazing breakfast. Feeding and petting their sweet lil sheep was the cherry on top. Would highly recommend to anyone to stay here!
- Ian (10/5): - A lovely warm welcome by our hosts. Great conversation and a wonderful dinner cooked and served to perfection.
Garth and Angie made my birthday celebration visit really special and both Jacqui and I highly recommend Whakaipo Lodge for their excellence in all aspects.
- Laura (10/5): Arrived as Strangers, Left as Friends - Angie and Garth’s hospitality is truly second to none. From the moment we arrived, their bright smiles, warm demeanor, and easy conversation made us feel instantly at home.
But it wasn’t just a warm welcome — their genuine kindness and interest continued throughout our entire stay. Every conversation, whether about the lodge, life, or anything in between, felt like catching up with old friends. And there were plenty of opportunities to connect, each one a highlight of our visit.
Their hospitality extended beyond conversation, too. From delightful afternoon canapés to incredible breakfasts, our hearts — and taste buds — were absolutely delighted.
Speaking of food, Angie is a true master in the kitchen! Her recipes (some of which you can find on their website) are absolutely phenomenal — easily rivaling any restaurant. And when you add Garth’s coffee-making skills into the mix, you’ve got the perfect start to your day.
The property itself is stunning. Our room was spacious, cozy, and thoughtfully appointed, and the lack of light pollution made the evenings perfect for stargazing. With plenty of beautiful open space to explore, Whaikapo Lodge felt like a peaceful sanctuary.
We’re so grateful we stayed here — and we already can’t wait to return. Thank you, Angie and Garth, for your kindness, your care, and the incredible slice of heaven you’ve created at Whakaipo Lodge!
- David (10/5): Peace and quiet, amazing hospitals just minutes from Lake Taupo. - Incredible hospitality. Garth and Angie did EVERYTHING to make us feel comfy. Delicious breakfast, so quiet in a truly lovely setting. And a sheep visit as an added bonus. Nothing!
- Martin (7/5): Wonderful welcome at Waikaipo Lodge - Hosts were welcoming, sociable and helpful. Private room with air con. Canapés and wine at 6pm was a nice addition at the end of the day. A bit further out of town than ideal
- Cherie (7/5): Good -
- Johan (10/5): Like old friends after a 2 days stay- that sums it up - Wonderful location
Absolutely awesomely sincere and caring hosts
There is NOTHING they could or should have done differently!
- Anna (10/5): Excellent place to stay in Taupo - The location was 10 minute drive from the centre of Taupo, breakfast was excellent. Angie and Garth were incredibly friendly giving us help with places to eat and all around the local area. Despite the cold weather in New Zealand for summer we had a fire in the lodge to keep us warm. There wasn’t anything to not like

- Alanis (10/5): Beautiful, luxurious stay, with gorgeous friendly hosts. - Clean, comfortable and fabulous. Felt very high end It would be great if they attached a chrome cast to the tv for easier casting options but they had a great dvd range
- Gordon (10/5): - My wife and I stayed three nights at the Whakaipo Lodge as part of a 12 day NZ vacation. We have traveled to many countries and stayed and some wonderful venues. My wife and I agree that Whakapio Lodge ranks as our favorite. Angie and Garth are amazing hosts. The room we had was spacious, private, modern, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast is not an afterthought but a great home cooked meal. Wine (Garth knows wines) and canapés (by Angie) was a great way to end the day. We opted for a three course dinner one night and it was a great treat. Thank you Garth and Angie for making our stay so memorable!

- TAT CHI ARTHUR (10/5): Highly recommended! - We enjoyed our stay so much. Everything was excellent. Angie and Garth are perfect hosts. We're like staying at friends' home, warm, cozy and clean. We arrived late at night. We were served a glass of wine after checking in. Breakfast was impressive. They even served wine & canapes before dinner. We fed the sheep and the lamb. I'm sure this is the best choice we've made in this trip.
- Ant ans Dan (10/5): The most beautiful place we stayed in while in NZ - This was the most beautiful place we stayed in while in New Zealand . The hospitality of our hosts was amazing. From the warm welcome to the chat over canapés and drinks in front of a roaring fire, to the delicous breakfast. Recommendations and bookings made for us for dinner and sailing on the lake were spot on.
From when we arrived to the time we left it felt like we were catching up with old friends in a beautiful farmlet setting.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great host, wonderful lodge, awesome experience - It was a great experience staying there. The hosts Garth and Angie are so nice. They make sure that your stay cannot be better. I eikl definitely stay there again. Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Idyllic getaway with the best possible hosts! - Garth and Angie have created a small Eden in Whaikapo. If you go to New Zealand and miss this, shame on you. If at all possible, have dinner with them. Angie is a fantastic cook and they are both charming and fascinating dinner companions
- Glenys (10/5): Extended our stay - Thank you Angie and Garth for sharing your lovely surroundings with us - up to date New Zealand architecture with long views over the garden. The house is well situated into quiet private suites for sleeping and convivial lounge and dining areas for socializing. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed an extra night for the unfinished conversations. It was perfect.
- Rob (10/5): Great place to relax and unwind - We really had a fantastic time and found Garth and Angie very hospitable. The room very comfy and clean, Garth and Angie are super helpful and have lots of information of things to do around Taupo. We highly recommend staying here.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best bnb - There's a reason this place is rated so high! The real highlight was hanging out with the owners, who were only too happy to chat about everything and seem like they were born for the job.
Of course the food (mostly homemade) is excellent too, and the rooms etc etc
- Kathy (10/5): - Service: Go the extra mile; Cleanliness: Immaculate;
