• Maree (8/5): - Good price. Clean rooms. Good location. Property is run down...big pot holes in drive and needs painting and maintenance.
• Azeem (2/5): - The worst experience I ever had in staying in a hotel. Its old and things are falling apart. Broken draws, no cutlery in the room despite coffee and sugar provided. I was left wondering how would I make coffee or tea. Toilet seat was broken and also the door could not close properly. No parking was available on the site as mostly was occupied by non guests who were attending a function at the hotel.
• Suzanne (8/5): Happy Stay - The room we were checked into was not of an acceptable standard to me so on talking to the lovely receptionist we were offered a different room which was superb.

• Martin (6/5): - This is an inexpensive motel, but I would rather pay a bit more or find another option. Tired and dirty. The sheets were clean but had holes in them, suggestiing they were past their use by date. We were glad to be there only 1 night.

The rooms were worn down, they smelt of cigarette smoke. Initially we were put into the wrong room. Very poor and run down accomodation. Only positive was hot water in the shower and Wifi.

• Verified traveler (2/5): - So on the advertisement when booking it stated there was pool facilities and hot mineral spa which when we arrived were closed due to covid, but there was no notes or pre-warbibgs of this about the closure also our room wasn’t vaccumed and the buffett breakfast was a packed little breakfast. The bathroom smelt of old urination, had a cracked top and the shower had wear and tear damages which was not displayed in the photos when booking. which i believe is false advertisement!

Transferred to another room then the fridge wasn't working, this was later replaced. Not a good rest from the party going on next door... And the Cody cans left on my deck.

It is very run down, dirty and what maintenance that has been done is all done on the cheap. Not worth the $80 I paid to stay. The pool was filled with rubbish, NOT just leaves. I should have left after checking in but was too tired after a very long day.

• Stefan Sachio (4/5): Should be better - The lady at the checkin was very friendly and polite. The breakfast room is quite big and they have a basic selection for the breakfast meal. The lady in the breakfast room is lovely, she is super friendly and absolutely polite. One of the reason we like to eat here, even just for a toast bread;) There is also a little pool area, with a hot pool and one cold pool. The room was really run down, the water in the shower and the washbasin wasn’t really flown down, it was jammed. Also the switch in the bathroom was broken, so the light/fan was running 24/7. It was a bit loud so you need to close the door all the time. Best part, we informed the guy at the reception that we can’t switch off the light, so maybe he could give us an other room, that wasn’t run down in that way. But he just said, yes I know the switch in the bathroom didn’t work, so that’s it. Be careful the heater in the room is super hot, you can literally boil eggs on it;) you switch it off, it takes a while but it didn’t get cold just warm (a bit). So the room has the right temperature for sleeping, if the heater is on, you can’t it’s like sauna.

• Sharon (8/5): - Bed linen clean, bathroom looks all new and works well. Had trouble with the tv but I had a book so all was good, I explained it in the morning and it was going to be checked. There was no phone to call reception and no spoons to stir your drink in the room. Unfortunately the pool was not usable and the day was very hot.
• Eden (4/5): - Shower door was broken so a shower curtain was put in, lights broken, soap holder and towel rack broken, hole behind bathroom door. Beds were comfortable and tv was great (Sky tv). It was good to be able to park right outside our room. No fridge which I thought was pretty standard in hotels. Hotel needs some major upgrade and loving, especially the hot pools which looked disgusting due to the rust inside. Wouldn’t stay here again.

• Ad_s (2/5): - The property is in need of much maintenance. The bathroom was leaky and and water seeped in from the bathroom into the bedroom under the carpets. Some searches also show that it’s a 24 hour room service but doesn’t specify that the reception is closed and and you have to call the onsite manage from the only phone at the reception. There was no AC or a fridge. I think these 2 are very basic amenities and should be specified prominently if they aren’t included. Had I known that four canoes didn’t provide these amenities, I wouldn’t go there. Thank god I only booked for 1 night. It was so hot that we had to sleep with the doors open. This wasn’t helpful because some of the neighbours were quite noisy. The following morning I went back to the reception to check out early and complain to the guy Sitting there. He didn’t take it well and became quite defensive. I’m never going back again and I would never recommend this place to anyone.

There was one lady that i spoke too on Saturday 25th January she was very helpful , I didn't catch her name , but thankyou for being helpful , calm and very nice. The man on friday i was on to on the phone was very disrespectful and rude and pretty much saying i was wrong even though they took money out of my account and then was saying oh do you want too cancel the room etc. I will not reccomend this hotel at all.

Even when you get a “deal” you expect basic things like these to be maintained, and to get what you pay for at least, especially when what is advertised and pics shown on websites are not what reality is. Lucky the stairs aren’t too bad of a hike with large luggage. The guy at reception was lovely though.

• Susan (4/5): Don’t stay here - Don’t stay here, the rooms are dirty, cobwebs hanging from ceiling, shower cubicle mouldy and carpet grubby. Toaster in communal didn’t work!!
• T (4/5): - Liked: convenience to city, easy to find, parking available, laundry available, 3 separate beds for family, internet. Disliked: bathroom was tiny and very smelly, toilet was not attached to the floor and was leaking something at the back all over the floor. Room was not properly cleaned or serviced, not enough towels or cups for us all. Very noisy with tour groups arriving late and leaving early.
• Jean (2/5): - This is the worst hotel I lived in New Zealand. 1. It does not have lift. 2. The room is dirty. When we entered the room, there is unpleasant smell that we believe this room is lived by the Indiaians before. And you will see the room had many bad spots and dust in the bathroom. 3. There is no air-conditioner. Only provided a fan. 4. Many things are out of order. The exhaust fan suddenly stop and didn't work then. There are 2 outlets for the taps in the bathroom. But one doesn't work and only hot water flow out. 5. The room is dark as not enough lights. The mattress depressed. I think we can only praise is the television is good and the reception staff are quick in check in and check out.

• Jeremy (4/5): Last resort option - Photos are VERY deceiving. Room design is basic and fine. Bathroom looked recently renovated and clean. The rest of the hotel is decrepit. Beds were soft and non-supportive, outside looks like it hasn't seen paint or any type of care in decades. The sulfur smell is part of the Rotorura experience, but for some reason, it's 10 times worse at this hotel. If you have no other option, this would be an acceptable option.

Also noise from people upstairs & loud talking that could be heard into the late evening. The place needs a good spruce up it's old and tired looking, the room was drabby & lighting poor. The pool needs a lot of work it looks yuk, I wouldn't get in it. I won't be going back there and I won't recommend it to anyone.

• Verified traveler (4/5): - Poor check in experience. Reception closed at 830pm and the sign and booking info said it would be open until 9pm. Took us 40mins to find someone who would check us in - even the phone number was not being answered. Had to phone Expedia customer service team for action

No microwave and no Alarm clock, no lamps on thr side of our bed.. wasn't cleaned when we asked for a full service.. The bathroom wasn't cleaned very well. The shower head was disguising.. didnt vaccum while we stayed for 3 night's. The electric jug didnt off when it was finished boiling.. You could hear the people in the next room and hear them talking and TV going. We were not happy with our stay..
• Mel (2/5): NOT GOOD ENOUGH - On arrival the toilet was faulty - would not flush. Repaired after second call out. Fridge out of action. Refurbishment of the room left a lot to be desired. Sloppy workmanship. Not befitting a 3-star status and the long weekend rate charged.

We didn't even want to take a shower. Furniture in the room was the same. Although the beds did look a bit new. We ended up not even staying there as the place was so gross. You know it's bad when you check for bedbugs right when you get in. Orbitz was great, as usual, and refunded my payment.

However, it was clean and tired. No soap holders in the shower. The taps were old and tired. Water pressure - just okay. Large communal kitchen. Sufficient parking. Restaurant on site. We were not too fussed, as we only spent 2 nights there and it was just a place to sleep. Overall, it was satisfactory.

However we found the room to be a little less clean that expected; wrappers, hair, etc in most of the draws. The walls in the bathroom really need to be washed down as there was what we thought to be dried blood. The sheer curtain and one pillow had a spot of blood on it as well. However, if the room had been properly cleaned then I would have nothing really negative to say. The hotel is in a perfect spot close to the city and besides the above the room was really nice.
• SHEB (10/5): - Rooms are a good size with plenty of room to move around. SKY included movies and sport. Staff were extremely understanding and accommodating. Ended up extending for another night. Would happily stay again and recomend.
