• Ray (10/5): Highly recommend - Great view, quiet, hosts were true professionals. Everything you needed was supplied. Fruit, champagne, homemade cookies. Hot tub was excellent as well Parking was tricky but manageable and they were onsite to help.
• Yager (10/5): Peter and Katelina are absolutely dedicated and caring hosts who made sure our visit was great. - Peter and Katelina couldn't be friendlier. The room had everything we needed, a very comfortable bed, and plenty of room for luggage. I very nice sized bathroom as well. We enjoyed the short (but hilly!) walk back and forth from the main part of Paihia. The best part was the little thoughtful touches - fruit when we arrived, drinks in the fridge and fresh cookies! Those got us through a few hikes! The decor isn't our taste, but with the lights off, who cares! The driveway and parking is a bit tricky but the view you enjoy makes it all worthwhile.
• Jake (10/5): Lovely time and lovely stay in Bay of Islands - The family that owns this property is wonderful. The property is well maintained. They provide delicious snacks like chocolates, cookies and pringles. They are SO kind and worth spending your time swapping life stories with. House is a 2 min drive to town or 12min walk but up a steep hill. It was perfect.
• Allison (10/5): - My partner and I enjoyed this quiet and romantic spot. The views were spectacular and could be seen right from your room! The shower was great. The hosts warm and welcoming. The private hot tub though is really what puts this place over the top. Highly recommend!
• Scott (10/5): - Pete and his wife are gracious hosts and an interesting couple; we thoroughly enjoyed our stay (particularly the priceless view of the Bay of Islands from the hot tub!) and simply cannot recommend Tarlton’s Lodge highly enough. Book it if you can.

Nothing to say here because Tarlton Lodge was delightful, with a touch of luxury. I didn't use the hot tub, so that just might be rectified with another visit.😁

• Martin (8/5): Very good - The decided to stay at Paihia after a rather hectic tour of New Zealand, south and north island. This was our short rest before the trip back to the Uk. We had initially booked into a hotel in Paihia but after reflection decided to opt for the more quiet option of this accommodation. I think we made the right decision. It was just a comfortable stay with an excellent view and exactly what we needed. It was close enough to enjoy the restaurants and bars of Paihia, but far enough away to be peaceful.

I have stayed many places in paihia and this one wins it is the only one i have found with your own personal spa right outside your room. Visited on some rainy weather weekend so didn’t get to experience the ocean view so will definately need to go back another clear day/night.

Not a hotel..bnb - Upon arrival we were surprised by 4 things… three very bad and one very good. 1) the place is hard to find. 2) When you do find it the driveway is not only in terrible shape but there is a massive dip which caused our undercarriage of car to massively scrape and then the rear of car had massive drop banging rear fender… which later detatched on ride home… The proprietor witnessed this and stated that has happened before and what you need to do is come in not straight on but at a sharp angle and cut the wheel hard… there was no signage to this effect and damage already done… the driveway is not suitable for a business like this and had limited parking … if also felt like a bed and breakfast vs a hotel … the price was nearly $700 per night. on the positive side the owner is incredibly friendly, wants guests to have a good stay and has an impressive background. Peter just needs to sort out the driveway, signage, and lower his pricing… along with his advertising to reflect this is more a b and b where you can hear the other guests and walk thru a home to get to the room…. vs a proper hotel.

• David (6/5): - This property is a room in a converted basement The steep stairs going down to the room would not be good for those with mobility issues. The foliage has not been trimmed and so the view is obstructed. There is smoking allowed on the property and the smoking drifted into our room and triggered my husband’s asthma. We felt this room was overpriced and the website is misleading when it is called a “lodge.”
• David (6/5): - The host and hostess were great. It is important for guests to know these rooms are converted basement or lower floor rooms of a home. We felt the listing was misleading when it was called a “lodge.“ The bathroom lacked a few amenities as in enough shampoo and conditioner for two people and it would’ve been nice to have lotions provided. We would have appreciated an iron. An issue for us was cigarette smoking that was allowed on the property. My husband’s asthma was triggered from the cigarette smoking that was allowed in the front of the house which drifted into our room and caused us a problem. There are narrow stairs that lead down to the room and would be difficult for some who may have mobility issues. There is a trip hazard in the bathroom which the host pointed out to us. That needs to be remedied.

• Paul (10/5): Idyllic setting for time out - Tarlton’s Lodge is the ideal prescription for stress management. From the tranquil water views towards Russell, the quiet interrupted only by birdsong, to the comfort of a well appointed room complete with private spa pool on the deck, the setting is just so relaxing. Add in the generosity and friendliness of the hosts and a fresh, bountiful breakfast served on your balcony every morning...it’s the perfect package. If you want to eat out, be sure to take the ferry to Russell, a 10-15 min walk from the Lodge. Compared to what is on offer at Paihia, our experience was that the fare in Russell was just so much better...try The Gables, The Duke of Marlborough, Hone’s Kitchen, you won’t be disappointed.

It is away from the main road so you have the peace and quite, but only a 10 minute walk to the major areas. Our hosts Peter and Katalina were very friendly and helpful. My husband and I highly recommend Tarltons Lodge.

The outdoor spa tub was heaven after a long day playing tourist. The breakfast on our patio was a great way to start the day especially Katalina's omelette! Lastly the view - WOW just beautiful! • Verified traveler (10/5): Great room, amazing view, walking distance - Owners were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room had an amazing view of the water. It's a short (15 minute) walk to town (but is uphill all the way back). The food was great. The room was well equipped. We only used the a/v system for displaying camera images on the TV so I can't really comment further on that. The double sliding glass door allowed us to open the room to the covered porch and enjoy the breeze and sound of the water. The private hot tub was also great!

Walking distance, although steep hill to shops, restaurants (amazing choices), didn't use my car the whole time that staying there. Breakfast provided was excellent. So many activity choices.
• Tracy (10/5): Fantastic location - Located and sort walk to Paihia, all rooms offer fantastic views. The hosts offer great suggestions for local restaurants as well as the various activities around the Bay of Islands. We had a great 2 days and are still working off the breakfasts!!
• Jerry (10/5): Beautiful view of the bay - We spent three days at Tarlton's Lodge and couldn't be happier with our choice. If you want a peaceful setting, a beautiful view of the bay, a private hot tub and breakfast on your private patio, do yourself a favor and stay here. Peter and Kathalena are wonderful and attentive hosts.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome views. Best service - I booked 2 nights to attend a work conference while my husband caught up with his paper work, in the room, during the day. The owners were great. They seemed as if they would do anything for us but were just as happy to give us our privacy. Could not have picked a better place. Awesome views, quiet and private. A real treat. The breakfast was very tasty, beautifully presented and hot! and it was served at exactly the time we requested. This property is not on the "water front" of Paihea and therefore not within walking distance of the Bars and Restaurants BUT this means it IS private, quiet and secluded.
• Brian (10/5): Excellent place to stay! - We absolutely loved this place and will for sure stay here again when we're in the area! The room was beyond comfortable and the hosts were nice, genuine people! Each room has a private hot tub on the deck!
• Thanit (10/5): Exceptional Boutique Hotel - Friendly and very helpful hosts. We had a great time, especially the spa at the end of the day to wind down. Breakfast just right outside our room overlooking the bay just topped our trip. Look forward to staying here again next time we up there again.

• JEREMY (10/5): views , tranquility and hot tubs - hidden up a small road this is a beautiful bed and breakfast run by two happy , knowledgeable and extremely helpful people, it is a 1 minute drive from bustling Pathia The views from each of the 3 rooms are stunning , lying in bed you can watch the passing fishing boats .Each room has a hot tub to relax and take in the sun sets at the end of the day and to avoid the crowds in town. Breakfast is set up on your veranda, cooked to order and served when you are ready. This is a new looking property and wonderfully run by Tash and Dan.
