• 56bex (2/5): Horrible - it will ruin your stay in Reims - This place is HORRIBLE. Do not stay here - it really will taint your experience of beautiful Reims. I arrived and didn't end up staying as I felt so uncomfortable. Upon arrival, the glass entrance door was smashed in which should have indicated this place is unsavoury. I wasn't able to check in (there is no bell or phone) even though the communications had informed me this would be fine so I spent 40 minutes waiting outside. After calling off my own phone (think global roaming charges) 7 times I was let in by someone very helpful. the room was revolting - dirty and with no curtain. When I returned in the afternoon after exploring the beautiful region it took 9 attempts at turning the key to get in (the door is not fit properly) I was confronted by the romanian harvest pickers who were drunk and agro. At this point i left and booked at the Best Western across the road. Don't make the same mistake that I did - it is really not worth it :(
• 757stevew (4/5): Nice budget hotel ruined by noisy environs - Hotel adequate for overnight stay and brilliant location in city centre. Friendly staff. Ruined by the bass thump of the cafe next door and the noisy Friday-night crowd at the pavement tables until 2am. Car parking tip - use the Erlon car park with an entrance only 100 metres from hotel.
• nicademusVI (8/5): In the heart and old part of Reims - This is an inexpensive place, clean and run by a sweet young couple in an old building right in the heart of old part of Reims. It's a short walk to cathedral and train station. The walls aren't sound proof but what do you expect from and old building. We walked a lot and found some very beautiful old buildings.
• Another-Londoner (6/5): You get what you pay for! - For 48 euros a night this hotel is very much a backpacker's place - last time I stayed somewhere like this was in Paris in the 70s! - but it was clean if shabby, and very centrally located. It's in a pedestrianised street, above a cafe so not easy to find (and of course nowhere to park or unload), and is an old fashioned hotel with LOTS of stairs. Reception is up one long flight, and the bedrooms are up at least one, two or three more flights. No lift. The rooms were tiny - especially the bathrooms - though the shower had plenty of hot water. The loo was almost underneath the basin it was so cramped! The front rooms were very noisy on a Saturday night, being above the street, and one had the flashing "Hotel" sign right outside the window (it felt like we'd landed in a Micky Spillane novel). We didn't have breakfast as there was nobody there on Sunday morning (we were told to post our keys in a box!) but there's a nice cafe downstairs. Given the price, our only real complaint was that one room absolutely stank of old smoke so we had to have the window open to get rid of the smell which of course meant hearing all the Saturday night partygoers and a very loud rockband in the street below.
• mystiquephilly (4/5): Budget hotel - Fantastic location...walk from the train station. right on the pedestrian mall with tons of cafes, stores, fountains, etc. Small , old hotel, no elevator, but don't stay here if you want the Ritz. Good value, but really it's best virtue is location and price. Nice, helpful staff. Don't look for any frills, there are none.
• Samara84 (2/5): TERRIBLE - The only good thing to say about this hotel is It was in an excellent location. Everything else about this hotel is awful- It was supposed to be a non smoking hotel yet the reception staff smoked in the reception/breakfast area, as well as many guests- French men stood outside our room smoking and talking extremely loudly at 11:30 at night. The hotel only provided 2 small hand towels as our bath towels (so small) and they did not even provide any others to use as the hand towel and floor mat, so we had to use the TINY towels as our bath towels and the hand towels and the floor was extremely wet. I would never stay here again, it is terrible!
• nsb4 (8/5): Good Value, Warm Room, Nothing Fancy - This hotel was in the perfect location, close to many restaurants, the metro and the cathedral. The room was warm and clean, the water was hot and the staff was friendly. The room was cleaned everyday.This hotel was nothing fancy, the carpet is old, there is no decor. I stil found it charming and felt safe. It's Europe, so you can't expect much from a 1 star hotel. You should be out enjoying the city and the great food! My only complaint was that that WiFi was spotty and kept going on and off.
• AshleyWO (10/5): Great value and location - Booked through Laterooms, no hassle, easy to find once we had figured out the one way systems! They offer parking which is good as is on a pedestrian square. Fabulous location with cafés, restuarants and bars literally on the doorstep. No frills, great price, good welcome, would book again.
• kiwi126 (8/5): Great value for money, good loacation - Very close to rheims train station, basically on the road straight ahead as you come out, the google maps location is a bit misleading. There are bars and cafes for breakfast right below.only 5 mins walk to the cathedral. Room was very clean, owner friendly. We stayed 1 night and found it good value for what we needed.
• NinosM (2/5): Shocking - Booked to stay at this hotel as me and my family were travelling through France including my 20 month old daughter. Travel to the hotel took a bit longer than expected due to a 2 hour traffic jam at Lyon so decided to call the hotel and advise as we were not going to arrive until midnight. I was advised by the hotel owner that the last check in was 11pm and if we didn't arrive by then they would give our room away and still charge me for the booking. I argued that we couldn't do anything about the traffic and his responce was that it was our tough luck and there is nothing we can do about it. So not only did he take our money but my family had to sleep in the car as it was too late to book alternative accommodation. There is also no information on their website stating no check in after 11pm. Thie hotel was booked through e-bookings.com
• Lyncroft (8/5): Good for the price - Right downtown, in the pedestrian zone, this little hotel is situated a 7-minute walk for the train station on the 2nd and 3rd floors of an old building with the traditional creaking floors. Expect narrow stairs and no elevator. At my arrival at lunch time, I was greeted politely by the owner and given my key right away but warned that the housecleaning was not quite done. However I was able to leave my luggage in my room (a single) and change, a great plus when you have just gotten off the plane. I was offered breakfast but I declined. The room itself was simple but clean. For the price I even had my own bathroom and small shower. The bed was reasonably comfortable. Soap, shampoo, towels, extra pillows were provided. The television, a flat screen, worked well. Only the carpet showed its age. No blow-dryer or clock were in sight. In summary, the room offered basic & clean comfort for a basic price. Since it was at the back of the building, it was also quiet. Wine cellars: see the tourist bureau beside the cathedral to reserve a time for visiting the cellars. Pommery has the most beautiful 'caves' but Martel has the friendliest and most interesting tour (old tools and instruments). Epernay: the capital of champagne is just a 20-minute train ride away. Stop by the town's tourist bureau to see which cellars are open and need reservations, and then plan accordingly. Moët & Chandon is the oldest and most classic. Tours are by reservation and are given in French, English & Italian by ladies in a smart black 2-piece suit. Mercier, more 'avant-gardiste' in its approach, does not require reservations. The visit of the cellars is done in a small train with an audio-guide.
