Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean rooms, nice staff. This makes a great spot to stop.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great little place for the price. Clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No curtain over the window, so it was very hard to sleep.
- Izzy (2/5): Do not stay here!!!! - Our hotel room was dirty and we found a sex toy under the mattress. The manager refused to give us a refund, and I have yet to have my call returned from him.
- Louis (10/5): Hidden Gem indowntown Raton - What a delightful gem hidden in downtown Raton! The property is older but very clean and well maintained. We even had a steam shower in the bathroom. Bed was very comfortable. Will definitely stay here next time we stop in Raton
- Ralph (8/5): - Everything was great, except the WI-FI, and I understand that this was an area-wide problem at the time, so no hit on the hotel. Great staff, great service, great visit.
- Noel (8/5): 60's feel - Very nice. Way off the beaten path and old-school feel to it. Nice managers.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great for an overnight - This hotel crosses a street, so your stay may differ. Wi-Fi and ice are only available on one side. Staff is super friendly and breakfast is good. Rooms are clean, bed is comfy.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Old motel, musty smelling - The person, assuming owner, was not friendly at all. The bed was lumpy and sagged in the middle.
The courtyard is brighter then daylight all night long. The room overall was clean, plenty of supplies ie soap shampoo coffee prep, good.
It’s about right for a really cheap place to stay.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Hard to find and didn't feel very safe in the area - Place is in much need of update. Won't stay there again.
- Patricia J. (10/5): Great little motel - I stay at this motel every time I go through Raton. I love their Steam Showers and the management are the nicest, friendliest, accommodating people.
- Judy L (4/5): - Very basic but ok motel. LOUSY internet so not good for people who need to use their internet
- Clent225 (8/5): This is a nice old style place to stay - This place is a good place to stay. The rooms are clean, from the sheets to the bathroom. The price is very reasonable. The conditions are much better than locations I have stayed at twice the price. I would recommend the place if you are looking for a good place at a reasonable price.
- Qiaochu (8/5): - For the price I paid this is a very good place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place for the price. Thought it would be a dump but was pleasantly surprised!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Did not have my king bed room, but they managed to sort it out quickly and courteously.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - VERY COMFORTABLE AND CLEAN WITH VERY FAIR PRICE VIS A VIS OTHER OFFERINGS. WOULD DEFINITELY STAY AGAIN.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Confusion - They had no record of my reservation. Expedia said it would be $46 plus tax. They charged me $52 plus tax. I had my reservation number but no other info. Not a big deal as it was only $6 more but I was fortunate they had a room.
- Kurtis (10/5): Unexpectedly nice. - Unexpectedly nice. Clean and we'll maintained. Doesn't look that great driving up, but very nice once you get in. Everything clean and breakfast was great. Very good value.
- Cori (8/5): - Room was clean and big. Water pressure was great but shower was on the smaller side.
- Clint (10/5): - For the rate, big comfortable room
- sarah (10/5): Very unique, clean, comfy - What a unique hotel! Like a blast from the past, very quaint and preserved but CLEAN! I was traveling with my mom and we both slept very well on our beds and the room was quiet. I loved it. Try the steam shower! It's a crazy but fun experience!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Raton Budget Host - We enjoyed staying at Raton Budget Host.
- Christopher B (8/5): Basic, clean motel. - Basic, clean motel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Old! - Old, but not bad for the price.
- Lana D. (4/5): - An older hotel that is undergoing renovation. Forget their advertising a spa tub--it was a broken aperature in the bathroom.
- Kristen (8/5): Charming! - Clean as a whistle, cute as a bug. We had a nice stay. Staff was very friendly. Would not hesitate to stay here again.
- Jackie (10/5): Good bang for the buck! - The lady was very nice. Room was very clean and warm. Shower was the best part! Will visit again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Fair Place for a Low Price - For the price we didn’t expect much. The place was ok for the price but it’s very dated and our room needed a thorough cleaning. The bathroom fan had a lot of dust and mold built up in it. The drapes needed replacing. “Again, you get what you pay for.”
- Sharon (8/5): Clean and Friendly - OK room, beds were excellent and very clean, stayed 2 nights. The room was quiet and peaceful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The heat did not work in the room the room was nice. Very basic breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cleaning crew needs to start cleaning when people check out so they aren't cleaning and pushing around the noisy cart at night when customers are trying to relax. If she needs help to finish sooner then hire someone else or management could help
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
There was no toilet tissue in the room and no coffee cups. The coffee maker did not work as part of it was missing, There was mold in the corner of the shower.
- Andrew (10/5): Clean and friendly place - Everything was just fine and very clean, very friendly at the front desk and really no complaints.
- Len (10/5): Real nice.... - We had a very heavy rain fall on our first night and a small leak came in the bathroom. Alerted the staff and they gave us another room, no problem.
- Ak (10/5): Too good for the price - Clean rooms, comfortable bed, hot breakfast and wonderful hosts! Definitely coming back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I stayed here overnight while passing through. The hotel is old but has been remodeled not too long ago. The room was comfortable but dated. The walls are thin but my neighbors turned off their TV before I was ready to sleep so it wasn't a problem. Overall though I had a pleasant experience and would stay here again.
- Cleo (2/5): - A hotel employee wad in our room going through our belongings.
- Timothy (8/5): Good place to stay - Nice and quiet, older hotel but rooms were very clean. It even had a steambath that works! I haven't seen one of those since i was a kid lol
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice managers, not fancy, but inexpensive OK - Comfortable, value priced. Nothing fancy. One of the chairs was broken. Breakfast was adequate. I have stayed here the last 3 years, because it is inexpensive and comfortable.
- Deana (6/5): Clean and reasonable cost but the beds were so unc - Beds very uncomfortable. Not many accessible plugs in room to charge phones. Room was clean. Would not stay again
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bad Experience - We did not stay because the location felt too unsafe. It was in a neighborhood away from the business district and was surrounded by many run down houses and boarded up buildings. We arrived in the evening after driving for 10 hours and the manager refused to let us cancel our reservation because it was past the deadline to cancel. It made matters worse when the manager admitted he would still be able to fill the room the same night as they always have late travelers coming through. We were charged for a room even though we did not stay there because it did not feel safe. We were very dissatisfied and have never had such a bad experience.
- Jasun (6/5): Hotel more of a motel - What could I say it's cheap thats the nice thing about it
- Verified traveler (6/5): 30 years later the same but for the price, do it - The old melody lane motel that we loved while skiing sugarite is a time warp, even the wooden slots for the key. They still actually have a few saunas in rooms-- ask if the work. Room 28. They maintain it fairly well. I don't like the old bed spreads though. Young Indian couple was very accommodating. Breakfast sparse but dated cute dining room When we drove up, my husband said Oh no, you've done it this time by your budget travelling but then relented . It's not one for a vacation but a pass through
- Verified traveler (8/5): good value - a little disappointing this stay-we have stayed here every year same time for the last 6 years and have always had a plesant experience-this time they wanted to put us in a room we did not like--took some time for them to switch us ! :( then the room wasn't ready-left for over an hour and it still wasn't done when we got back--sure missing the personal touch of Sam.
- Courtney (8/5): Clean and cheap option - Excellent place for a cheap stay during a road trip. Definitely stay for the steam shower! Quite, clean and friendly staff,
- George (10/5): - An updated retro unit. Clean and reasonable rate.
- Sandy (10/5): Clean and near historic downtown. - This motel is older, but clean. The rooms are roomy and beds are comfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was quiet, beds were fine. The A/C unit was so noisy we had to turn it off. Room very musty unpleasant smell.
- Esther (10/5): Base camp - Nice base camp to take day trips to explore the area. Simple details such as hooks to hang up cloths, coffee in room, Kleenex provided were appreciated.
- Federico (8/5): OK Inn - It was OK
- David (10/5): Best Hotel of the trip - This place is over a half a century old but very well maintained. Very quiet, very restful. My favourite place to stay in Raton.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable and accessible - Easy stay and needs well provided for. Breakfast is ok. Convenient parking right outside door.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great town and hotel - It is a quaint little hotel. Nothing fancy but comfortable, friendly staff and nice room. The view is beautiful with all of the mountains. The young lady at the front desk recommended a great place to eat K Bobs. The food was excellent.
- Taylor (6/5): Quiet sufficient lodging - The location provided a quiet nights sleep; guests were on both sides of my room and surprisingly I could not hear them and was not impacted by noise. I spent the first 10 minutes killing flies in the room otherwise the room was clean and sufficient for the price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): 4C's checked - This motel has a convenient location and is clean, comfortable, and cost effective. Will probably stay here again when staying overnight in Raton.
- Michael (6/5): 1 Night - For a night or 2 ..it's ok..nothing fancy but clean rooms...could use some updating and remodeling
- HUGH (6/5): - 1.could not get two beds in the room -need two beds instead of one king 2.put on 2nd floor without elevator (seems kinda dumb) other than that nice hotel
- Maja (8/5): Close to planned activities. - Was repeat stay. We're really pleased first time. Had a few snags this time. Did not clean room one day. Internet was down and was fixed after we made them aware of problem.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice place, seems recently remodeled. Clean, quiet and easy check in/out. Way beyond expectation given the low rate.
- Heather (8/5): Friendly, locally owned, clean, good value - Great little locally owned motel. The office staff was warm, personable, ans inviting. The breakfast was typical continental breakfast. The rooms were extremely clean and newly refurbished. The beds were smaller than most (doubles). Other than that, this was perfect for our road trip across the states.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was late and dark when I pulled up to the hotel, and I was a bit concerned about what the area surrounding the hotel was like because it was off the main freeway and I couldn't see much. The girl at the front desk who gave me the key to my room was friendly. I always check the room, bed covers, and mattress of a hotel room, and after thorough inspection, found that the room and matters were very clean. It was a little like staying in a cabin attached to other cabins.
- Bobbie (10/5): - Large room, good bed, great steam ahower.
- michael (2/5): Bad - The description of this place on yyour website was totally erroneous.
- Ronald (10/5): Nice surprise. - Nice, older motel in a quiet part of the city. Great service, clean and great bed, which is sometimes difficult for me to find. I would stay there again. Pet friendly.
- M R (8/5): Good while on the road - Good place to stay one night while on the road
- Mary (6/5): Central location, close to I-25 - The motel is an older building. The interior is nice, but some of the furniture is old. The second room in which we stayed needed some maintenance. Also, the second room in which we stayed did not have a complete notebook, which was to include information such as available TV stations and local restaurants and churches.
There was not always someone at the front desk. When we arrived for check-in the second time, there was no one at the desk.
The continental breakfast was OK, but the breakfast room was not tended. The floor was sticky, and the dispenser that was marked "Juice" dispensed water. The juice container was in the fridge, and the pouring spout was thick with juice. We therefore opted to skip this amenity the second time.we stayed there.
Although the price was reasonable, I don't think I would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good and quiet. Close to things in town. Easy check out system.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and decent - Furnishings are dated but room was clean and comfortable.
- ME (6/5): Clean. - The hotel room itself was clean, sheets over bleached, bed terribly uncomfortable, so many lights outside that it was to bright to sleep! The lights shown thru the bamboo/wicker(?) curtain all night! The air conditioner never did cool the room down comfortably enough to sleep well.
The staff spoke very little English. There was nothing to eat for special diets, nothing gluten free, no decaf, no breakfast choices at all for me. The shower door didn't close, but the water was very hot!
- Sheila (10/5): - Great place to stay for the value for one night just passing thru while traveling. Only complaints I had was the size of the shower and parking lot. My son is 6 ft tall and the shower was hard for him because his head was above the shower nozzle. We drive a suburban and I was blocked in the next morning. The size of the room itself is spacious.
- D G (6/5): Clean, great shower, roomy - Room was very clean. Plenty of room. Shower was wonderful. A/C really cold. Beds were just so so.
- Maria I (8/5): - This Summer we decided to go on a family vacation in Colorado. Coming in from different areas, we were looking for a meeting point to spend the night & drive into Colorado together. My brother found this place online & we decided to meet there based on the reviews. The reviews were spot on! It is an older facility but it is excellently maintained & very clean. After a good night's rest & a good continental breakfast, we went on our way! Will definitely keep this place in mind if I find myself in Raton NM again!
- D n V frm Dnvr (8/5): Clean, quiet, comfortable, - A quite location away from the highway. It is a dated throwback to Route 66, when travel was more difficult and a clean room was an exception. Our room was very clean, the bed comfortable, and the carpet looked new. The continental breakfast included a surprise waffle maker!
- Wanda (8/5): Nice retro stay! - During our 4 day trip from Louisiana to Idaho, we stayed at Budget Host in Raton, NM. Out of the 4 days of driving and Hotels/Motels, this say was the best! I got the best sleep here. Room was clean, has a mini frig, and microwave. I was able to bring my two small Poodles for a small fee.
- Brenda (8/5): Unexpected gem - An unexpected gem - clean and cheap, nothing fancy but a great overnight during a road trip
- Marilyn (4/5): Not so hot. - This was a very dark and dingy room. It was clean. It was spacious. Requested Internet service and no one ever came to hook me up. The bathtub would not drain.
Only one channel on the TV. Nice fridge and microwave.
- Mimi (8/5): Great value - Old but very clean. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Room had fridge, microwave, and steam shower.
- Verified traveler (8/5): good stay for price - older but well kept.Friendly staff. Standard breakfast for this class hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - When I travel, I avoid the interstate franchises and prefer to stay in town. I also prefer to dine in locally owned and operated restaurants. To this end, it's nice to see "Melody Lane" returning to its former glory. I stayed here over 20 years ago when it boasted a 3 star rating from AAA. I'm so happy to report, that under new ownership, it is being restored to same quality of yesteryear. The rooms have been renewed with fresh paint, new carpet, and everything put in working order. The rooms are supplied with all the amenities of motels that charge a lot more. Plus, each room is equipped with a steam bath that worked great and was much appreciated after an eight hour drive.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic but very good - Older but very clean and comfortable room. The rooms have fairly recently been updated. It is clear that they work on a tight budget but if you don't need fancy then this place is very good.
- D (6/5): Very basic room. Basic breakfast - Just a short one night stay on our way to Taos and Santa Fe.
- Beatriz (6/5): - Ok place to stay for a rest stop on a road trip. Clean. Continental breakfast included but not great.
- Ernest (10/5): Handicapped Room Comfortable - Enjoyed our stay. Wish we could have stayed longer
- Tamra (10/5): Excellent retro hotel for a great stay! - Love this little place...it reminds me of childhood trips out west. The hotel is clean, with new paint job, carpet and even new mattresses. It is like taking a trip down memory lane...except it's "Melody Lane". The hotel owners and staff are so kind and are ready to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The little breakfast nook reminds me of going to Grandma's house and having a meal. They have muffins, cereal, even a waffle maker for you to use, with all the fixings. It is quiet, on the edge of town, and convenient to Interstate 25. Will stay here every time I am in Raton!
- Rahul (10/5): Bang for your buck! - Highlights - Family owned/maintained property, received best reception and room service, very clean and safe, decent continental breakfast (hot waffle machine, fresh fruits included), small-size motel but decent room space, parking spot in-front of your room, close proximity to I-25 and US Route 87.
Like others, I had considered this motel based on previous reviews here and after my stay I can firmly say my experience is not any different then majority have described. We simply enjoyed our stay for one night! Since I was travelling with my family I wanted a well maintained room, a good breakfast service and a safe environment and I got all at reasonable price. Thank you for not disappointing me!
- MICHELLE (8/5): Great overnite stop - This was our second time second time staying here on our way to Colorado. Nice people and very clean rooms and the rate is very good
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This motel provides a travel friendly location with clean rooms and friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value, always clean - Stayed here many times and it is always excellent value, clean and pleasant.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Stay - Only complaint I had was room was a little noisey from adjacent neighbors slamming their doors, close to places to eat and price is reasonable, just fine for the price!
- Kate (10/5): Worth the trip! - A little out of the way, but definitely the place to stay when in Raton.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Updated but dated - They have done a ton of work on this location. Rooms and furniture have been updated. Style is still stuck in the 60's. Rooms are clean and fresh and comfortable. For the price...a good deal! NOT fancy!
- lyn (8/5): - Beds could be firmer, but otherwise great room! Should show exit number and directions to hotel on website.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Inexpensive motel in a dying town - The people at the front desk were nice, but a little disorganized. The room was nicer on the inside than it would appear from the exterior, but it was still fairly basic, as one might guess from the price level. The bed seemed a bit unstable. A basic continental breakfast was provided in he morning -- not great, but adequate.
- Todd (10/5): Excellent choice - Super clean and comfortable room... new carpet, fridge, even had a STEAM BATH in the shower! Staff was really nice... Doubt you can do any better even at double the price...this is definitely the place to stay...will stay here EVERY time I come through Raton.
- Sharon (6/5): You get what you pay for - Lady who checked me in did not speak good English--difficult to understand. and she didn't understand. Next morning electricity went out due to blizzard which was not their fault. However no news was forthcoming from front desk.
- Danielle (10/5): Perfect Stop on a Road Trip. - Perfect place to stop on a road trip. Clean and quiet. Front desk was very friendly.
- Raymond (10/5): - Owner has put a lot of work into his hotel. Newly remodeled. Very clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast was great also. Great value!
- Cat (8/5): Old but not bad - The hotel is not in the best appearing area, but it was clean, roomy, quiet, and a bit out dated.
- Hairo (10/5): Great stay, great value! - Simply and easy check-in. Owner onsite. Very friendly and easy to talk to. Quiet location and lots of nature.
