- David (7/5): Great experience in a 1900s style guest inn. Very cool place! - Very quint 1900s inn.
It is hard to give this only one rating.
If you are visiting the area for a vacation and experience this is a 10+
It is a throw back to a by-gone era of a true 1900 guest inn. Al Cooper and his wife had done an OUTSTANDING job of preserving a legacy experience that is hard to find in todays commercialized hotels and inns.
If you are visiting for a business or sporting event (I was doing a 90 mile cycling race) - rate it at 7.
This is because of the proximity to the road with traffic noise which calms down after about 12am.
All of the rooms are bed rooms - no TVs, microwaves, refrigerators...etc.
Guests can access the common generous kitchen and facilities.
Go here is you want to enjoy the experience - not if you have a demanding agenda. Close to road.
- gregory (10/5): Peaceful getaway - This is a classic old log lodge, in the style of a National Park lodge, or an old wayside inn. Lovely common room with well- loved leather armchairs and a rock fireplace. Rooms are clean, recently painted and comfortable. If you want a giant TV, there will be none on the premises. Go out on the deck and look at the redwoods and the river.
You have the run of the kitchen to cook breakfast or anything you want. Staples in the pantry, somebody always makes the coffee in the morning. Nothing, really. The owner is very laid-back, and does just about everything but clean the floors, so if that isn't your style, you might want to look elsewhere.
- Jolene (6/5): I would not recommend this place. - They did an offer breakfast. But the host advised us that there were eggs in the refrigerator if we wanted to cook them. The windows on the outside were covered with spiderwebs. There were no screens on the window. I killed about 10 bugs in the room. There was no air conditioning, but there was a fan in the room, but if you open the window more bugs would come in.

- Elaina (10/5): Love the owner! had an amazing trip! totally will come back! - The owner Al was amazing, super cool guy! The inside was decorated so well, very rustic and felt like a camping experience indoors. Love that we were able to use the kitchen and he provided eggs, bacon, and cheese!! right on the river .and there’s a campground as well fire pits, and smokers and barbecues. Al lit candles, and the fire in the main fireplace for us when it was just me and my friend on a girls trip, it really added to the ambience and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves! Nothing

- Sarah (10/5): Beautiful Rustic Lodge... A Perfect Place to Get Away and Relax. - Free Wifi, Full kitchen available- cook whatever you want. Beautiful lounge/library/sitting area with large stone fire place. It was winter so we had a nice fire going. Very intimate, cozy atmosphere. Perfect for family or friend gathering. Nothing really. It's a really lovely place. It's pretty rustic. No TV's in the place. Just a great place to relax.
- Madeline (10/5): All good at the Guernville Lodge! - Very campy and rustic but felt like home. Beautiful lodge and room! Nothing, it was all wonderful!
- Daniel (10/5): - The showerhead and the showers were extremely low, not that great for a tall person

- Ryan (8/5): Fun spot in Gurneville - Great lawn and river access, nice owner, good short walk to town Old and outdated bathroom, noisy floor from neighbors, lawn shared with tons of campers
- Adam (6/5): Some of it was cute and nice, and some of it was uncomfortable. - Great river access. Cute lodge-y ambiance. Beautiful trees. Fun library. Kinda grubby. Messy/disorganized common kitchen/pantry. Haunting portraits of indigenous people with no context
- Robert (10/5): Great place - The staff was great. Room was clean and comfortable. I plan on staying there again
- Hector (10/5): Great place to experience guerneville - The ambience during lazy bear… the best Everything is lovely
- Castonguay (10/5): -
- Suzy (10/5): - Al was great to work with, very flexible and accommodating. Sweet room, comfy bed and amazing library!
- Gabriel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lawrence (10/5): Exceptional - Right on the river. Easy parking. Beautiful lodge, and you could easily use the shared kitchen. Great deck. We liked everything.
- Hallisey (10/5): Exceptional - Location. Convenient. Could have been cleaner.
- Kritika (6/5): - The guesthouse guests share the property with Campers. There were unsafe offleash dogs that almost attacked me and my child
- Phillip (10/5): Summer camp vibes - A beautiful place with rustic charm. It was a last-minute reservation, and I am very glad to have booked two nights. It isn't modern or flashy but, it is perfect for the riverside environment it inhabits. The host is very nice and works at making the common areas feel like home. There is a fun energy around the grounds that strikes memories of summer camp. Amongst the other guest that were mostly families, my partner and I enjoyed the social energy which the facilities are set to encourage. If you are up for fun this is the place to be.
- Yossi (9/5): Wonderful stay - Al, the owner was awesome and accommodated all our request. the lodge area is HUGE and there is enough space for everyone to enjoy time on the river bank or playing volleyball, basketball or table tennis.
Al provides fruits and mineral water for free on daily basis and the hot tub was available 24/7.
Awesome place for families. Noise of little children early in the morning, but i guess that's the nature of staying in a lodge that serves as camping too.
- Maccpaddler (8/5): Charming, different, relaxed stay in a vintage timber lodge - Al, the hotelier, was very charming and good to chat with. The lodge doesn't do breakfast or meals but has a well-equipped kitchen with tea, coffee, bread, bacon, milk, provided. A very relaxed vibe.
The garden is lovely. Big grassy area with volleyball net, space to frisbee, a deck by the river for swimming or boating. The lodge is adjacent to the main road from Forestville to Guerneville and on to the coast. It is a busy road, and was very, very busy on Memorial weekend. Noisy at night in the rooms closest to the road.
- Fei (1/5): We didn't stay there because it was closed. - The lodge was closed. The owner didn't live nearby. It was dirty and locked with a heavy chain and padlock. We did not stay there. We would have been the only ones there and it was scary.
- Cota (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aly (10/5): Exceptional - Cozy and comfortable. No frills . Great time hanging with owner and other guests Relaxing
- Maria (6/5): Pleasant -
- Bryan (10/5): Excellent location with clean rooms and a friendly host. - Location is a perfect walking distance to downtown gurneville but far enough away from the bustle that you can get a good night's sleep.
- Allan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (10/5): Authentic unique stay. Off the beaten path. Check it out if you're in the area! - What a unique place to stay! So old timey, and beautiful. No TV, just enjoying the location and the company. Hot tub open whenever you want to use it. Owner is so sweet and friendly, he really lets you make it your own place. You can make a fire, cook in the big shared kitchen, play music on his old hand cranked record player. There is a dock the sits river side. The rooms are all different and unique. Some have little kitchens and fridge, some have claw foot tubs. Everything is left original by the current owner and it's just very spectacular! We will be going back during the summer months. Nothing we didnt like. 12/10!
- hayley (10/5): - Wonderful spot. Grounds are beautiful
- Anita (10/5): We will be back. - It was cute and funky. The owner, Al, was nice and accommodating to all our needs. Would have liked more pillows.
- Madhuja (9/5): Charming place for a relaxing retreat - We had a really delightful and memorable time at this almost a century old riverfront property, that felt like a hybrid between a hotel and someone's home. Along with expansive grounds (including several campsites!) and a personal river access, the place has a very distinctive charm. We especially loved the deck and relaxing hot tub under the stars, as well as the cozy living room with it's huge collection of books and a fireside piano. Special thanks to the owner Al for his warmth and hospitality: he gave us access to foodstuff in his pantry and also shared a warm home-cooked breakfast. It's an old property where somethings could benefit from better maintenance, but that didn't really hamper the quality of our stay.
- Kayla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jonathan (10/5): - Loved the Lodge. Al Cooper was a pleasure of a host.
- Nikki (9/5): quaint and relaxing - very cozy and beautiful. love the common kitchen. hot tub was a great way to wake up
- Maggie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (10/5): Gem on Russian River - Wonderful stay! Nice surprise like stepping back in time with good ole fashioned wholesome atmosphere! No TV! Great place to relax and have nice conversations in the library, outside many sitting areas, walk to river or just around grounds!
- Ed (8/5): Very good -
- Travis (8/5): Very good -
- Lester (10/5): - A
- Alina A (10/5): - The Guerneville Lodge was fantastic! When we got there, our room was too small and on the street so the owner moved us to a river view suite for only $30 more! He was very kind and accommodating and the property is beautiful! Highly recommend.
- Nicholas (10/5): My stay was dreamy. - Charm, no pretense Not having a longer weekend
- Morris (8/5): Very good -
- Kathi (8/5): Relaxing - Location. Casual environment. Open kitchen. Accommodating. Would like to see pics of room choices before staying again so as to better decide room choice. Info states no dogs but a dog was staying in a room at the time we were there. Area at river unkept. Didn’t know owners don’t stay on property after 8pm . Learned from another guest.
- Stephen (10/5): Perfect vacation spot! - The owner and housekeeper were so friendly and welcoming! We literally felt like we were statimg in our own home while we were there! Such a gem location and very peaceful oasis! We are definitely going to stay there again next year!
- Morris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sara (10/5): Full of character and characters - Great property, great old building with lots of charm and beautiful grounds with easy access to the river. Easily walkable to town. If you want modern conveniences this is not the place for you. But if you prefer charm and character (including the people:) stay here.
- Kris (10/5): Neat place! - Al was amazing to work with… our room was so cozy. Loved having the river below and the huge green space behind the hotel
- Lindsay (8/5): Very good -
- Cathy (10/5): - We love it here, such a beautiful peaceful place. The grounds are amazing and I love looking at the river.
- Louie (8/5): I'll definitely come back - Location was good. Close enough to downtown to walk and there was a lot of traffic going into town a couple days this weekend. The owner was great. I had the place to myself on the first night. That hot tub was amazing! I originally booked for 2 nights. I extended a 3rd night and had to switch rooms. It was the last room available. It was mainly for a family and faced the street. So that 2nd room wasn't as great but the water pressure and speed at which it heated was much better.
- Lindsey (10/5): - Beautiful property right on the river! Love it here.
- Charles (10/5): Delightful - Old lodge charm and delightful views of the river. I want to book a visit for my whole family.
- Valerie (10/5): - Remote check in was a plus..
- Maria (8/5): - Quiet and peaceful surroundings. Room was clean and comfortable. Al, the manager was friendly and helpful.
- Carrie (10/5): - Great access to the Russian River with relaxing surroundings.
- Yahyaie (8/5): Very good -
- Gregory (10/5): - Beautiful grounds. Warm, inviting livingroom with wood burning fireplace. Welcome atmosphere. Would stay here again for longer!
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shawn (10/5): - I Came here with friends for my bachelor party, my groomsmen and I had an incredible experience!
- Colleen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (8/5): Not a bad place. - The hot tub was nice. It was nice and dark on the patio allowing a nice view of the stars while having a good soak.
The common area was a big lodge room with a fire going which was a nice touch on a cold night.
The room was okay. The beds were comfy but small and next to the road so we heard every vehicle that passed.
It would be a great place to buy out for a big party.
- Jamal (10/5): Owner is cool - Vibe
- Anne (4/5): - This property is very rustic and difficult to find after dark. It's a beautifully situated spot on the Russian River during the season. It's very casual with a large lawn, fire pits, BBQ, basketball. Great for family gatherings when it's warm. My only contact with the owner was on the phone. Al helped me find the property. If you don't go after dark and don't care about things like properly installed smoke detectors, then you'll probably have a good stay. Also, it was pricey even for an off season resort. I'm from Monterey, CA But Guerneville is much smaller. Check pricing carefully. Some rooms are more expensive than the advertised price.
- Charlie (1/5): Very disappointing - Nothing The room was located directly across from the lobby check in and the kitchen. Even after 11:00pm The other guest were very loud. I brought this to the attention of (Al) the the lodge owner. He apparently was non confrontational to the loud guest and allowed them to use the kitchen all during the night. I thought this would be a nice relaxing place to take my wife for her birthday but now I want to take here on a make up birthday trip to make up for this disaster. If you choose to stay at this place I would suggest that you don’t stay in room #1. It was awful.
- Teresa (6/5): Pleasant - Didn't eat breakfast there Overhead light in room did not work.
Room very cramped.
- Amber (10/5): - Amazing.
- Ahlawat (8/5): Very good -
- Kelsea (10/5): - Quaint and cozy lodge by the river and just off Guerneville’s main strip. We came to get out of the city for the weekend and the vibe of this place really makes you feel like you’re away from it all. Thanks for having us!
- Jenna (8/5): - The lodge is very conveniently located 2 minutes from downtown Guerneville. The property is easy to get to, very close to the Russian River, and though the rooms are fairly tiny, and walkway is slightly noisy and slippery, we enjoyed its rustic charm.
- Conner (8/5): Very good -
- Lorna (7/5): Good -
- Meghan (10/5): Will definitely return! - Shared kitchen, cozy library fireplace, hot tub in the morning. Wonderful!

- Joseph (10/5): Great lodge and river experience - A great location on a busy event weekend. I love the rustic charm, the hospitality, the view of the river. The furnishings were homey and lodge style. The large room with a big fire place , the large deck and green space makes this a great river experience
- Laurence (10/5): GREAT PLACE (but don't tell too many people!) - It is an amazing, unique place, with tons of character and a real feel of being in a "lodge." The location is fabulous and all the "amenities" fit exactly with what we wanted to do. We'll be back!
- Gwendolyn (1/5): Poor facility upkeep and maintenance. - Facility maintenance was deplorable and unsafe and not clean. Refrigerator non functioning, stove non functioning, bed in so-called handicap room broke, spiders, window had no screen, shower water slow to get hot. Access to 2nd floor stair railing not secure. Outdoor signage difficult to discern. No outdoor designation of building entrance.
- Caleb (10/5): - Very clean and beautiful grounds right on the river.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ninad (10/5): Riverside retreat -- amazing location - if you are looking for upscale experience this isn't place for you. If you are looking to stay in a unique lodge with its own character with an amazing location, common kitchen area, meet and greet other guests. This is an amazing lodge for families, couples and elderly. We had an amazing stay and Elvin is great!
