Guest Reviews
- Janice (8/5): Friendly staff & very clean -
- F187WDmaryw (8/5): It was okay - We were driving home and stopped after 10 hours to get a few hours sleep. I booked a king room online through a third party. When we arrived we were given a queen room and told they were out of Kings. I asked if they would price adjust and they said no. Since it was booked through a third party they couldn't do it. The receptionist said that third parties don't know when they're sold out of specific rooms and they have no control over that. Though I understand the dilemma, I was not pleased with how it was handled. She was curt and unapologetic. The room was okay. We were only there a few hours. Everyone had to park on the grass as the driveway had just recently been blacktopped.
- F9394QErobertv (10/5): Never disappointed! - Very clean room as was the whole facility. Convenient location to get to room as well as leaving foe luggage purposes. Breakfast items selection was plentiful. My only concern was the bathroom - the tub’s bottom itself was somewhat slippery - If using soap or shampoo.
- U6665AYcarolyng (10/5): Cobblestone for the Win! - The beds were wonderful! Very clean and looked like new sheets and duvets.
Mild comment in that I wish they had softer pillows.
The entire Cobblestone Inn was clean and looked well maintained. Shower was great!
Would definitely stay at Cobblestone Inn again!
- Debra (6/5): - Good location The room smell- most likely carpet after raining lots
- Ashley (8/5): -
- Kloster (8/5): The bed was comfortable and we liked the shampoo and soap in the shower. - unfortunately for this day the motel had not received their food supply so breakfast was slight. No milk for cereals, yogurt
no bananas only unripe pears. no waffle mix etc. I understand the motel was fully booked on Saturday night. We understand this is uncommon as we have stayed here several times before without any such problems.
- danielkK6451QD (10/5): I’ll stay here again - The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable. I loved the pillows. The breakfast was good.
- Bellve (8/5): A great place to stay - The room was comfortable and clean, with ample space. The location was great, right off the highway. The hotel had a lounge and comfortable breakfast area. There was a nice area to walk our dog and there were pet waste bags provided. No complaints
- Judy (4/5): A nightmare! - Bathtub drain didn’t drain so only 1 person got to shower. TV wouldn’t work. Bedside lamp wouldn’t work. I was charged $30 more than quoted in my confirmation.
- Q2734LXmegana (8/5): Easy rest - Easy access to the interstate, nice clean room a little starchy sheets but super quiet, breakfast was limited so I skipped that.
- janinebO3305EH (10/5): Last minute booking - Clean, spacious room, good costumer service plus there is a great pizza place close by.
- Beth (7/5): Short and overpriced - Room was extremely clean. Night staff was pleasant. Breakfast was extremely minimal. Wasn't thrilled at check in that a room wasn't assigned. Tv remote was crap. Bed was a little hard and pillows flat.
- 336nedras (8/5): Convenient easy stay - Hello! I just wanted to compliment Ann who was working the evening of March 6 at the Avoca location. She was very friendly and helpful and made the experience enjoyable. She's an asset to your team.
- Trek66849099344 (10/5): A very pleasant place to stay. - My wife and I were in town for a funeral. We stayed three nights, and we were very pleased that we chose the Cobblestone Inn & Suites. Every staff member that we interacted with was friendly and helpful. The room, lobby and breakfast/lounge areas were all very clean and well maintained. I can strongly recommend this hotel if looking for a place to stay in this area. Also, very easy off and on I-80.
- Branch (7/5): - Breakfast was uninspired. Limited fresh fruit, baked goods. One rude breakfast attendant who roughly told us we "The doors are closed" when we attempted to enter the breakfast area at 6:04. Also the TV is at right angle to the king sized bed making viewing uncomfortable.
- Darlene (10/5): -
- Karen (8/5): - Both hot and cold breakfast choices. The location was close to the interstate and easy to get to. It seems to be a newer hotel so everything was in great condition. Comfortable bed. The eggs and sausage were barely warm. Could have used some gluten free choices for bread/baked items. Not much choice for restaurants nearby other than fast food. The Direct TV did not work during the thunderstorm. No elevator so don’t get a room on the second floor!
- Elizabeth (6/5): - room was clean & comfortable Breakfast- No fruit & no coffee
- Heidi (9/5): - Clean, good value Breakfast was marginal at best
- Orville (1/5): Reservations mean nothing! - Nothing, we booked an ADA room at Cobblestone over a month before our arrival, I can’t walk and have a mobility scooter to get around.when we arrived we were told that that the ADA rooms were booked and the only room they had available was upstairs. The problem was, I can’t do stairs and there’s no elevator. The lady at the desk was very nice and apologetic, she said somebody messed up on this. We could not stay and began looking for another motel. Everything was SOLD OUT. We drove almost 2 hours to find a motel that was not full. We are still attempting to get our money back .
- Jerry (9/5): -
- Wayne (8/5): -
- Ian (3/5): We will pick another hotel next time. The price plus what’s offered doesn’t match up. - The location being right off the highway was great. I didn’t like the musty humid smell inside the room. It smells like mold damage. I didn’t like that the carpets left dirty residue under my feet, perhaps the carpets were still damp. The breakfast was nothing fancy.
- Susan (7/5): We will stay again, but ask for a first floor room - Staff was so friendly, the room was clean, bed sheets were exceptionally soft! Shower water pressure (2nd floor room) was very poor. Would be nice to have an occasional chair in the room besides the desk chair.
- Joseph (8/5): - The shower/tub in #116 neefs some faucet work. It wsd hard to turn to adjust water temp.
Other than that, it was good.
Thank You
- Joseph (8/5): -
- Global300563 (10/5): I would definitely suggest cobblestone to any traveler. - This was the 5th hotel room on a 12 day holiday and It was The most pleasant experience. We are traveling with our two companion dogs and from the moment we walked in we were treated with dignity and respect by the desk person. She made sure sure we had easy access to walking the dogs outside and made clear the various amenities. The sheets were soft, the bed comfortable with ample pillows. The room was clean and well appointed.
- Auntiepae (8/5): Would stay again. - It was. Basic room which is all we needed. The furniture in the living area was worn and tired looking but didn’t impede our stay. The staff were very gracious and friendly and allowed us a late checkout.
- Troy (10/5): - Everything was excellent, the room, breakfast, and the staff
- Jong (10/5): -
- Tami (10/5): - It was easy access to the interstate.
- Tactical Moses (9/5): -
- afM9101HV (10/5): Nice Hotel - This is our second staying at this hotel and both times we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Rooms are clean, property is well maintained and staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast options are good and the husband really appreciates the coffee in the lobby
- Ross (8/5): A diamond in the rough. Great value! - Close to highway, clean. Great breakfast Parking lot
- georginet590 (10/5): Kudos for being a rest stop for weary traveling humans and dogs - It is a lovely, clean, accommodating hotel that is dog-friendly. Kudos for this. My dog also enjoyed his stay. Thank you for accepting him at Cobblestones.
- Rebecca (8/5): -
- Z4789HXmichaelm (6/5): Wi Fi was not good - Very clean and the staff was friendly.
One problem though was that I was unable to access the Wi-Fi with my laptop. They have something called Metered Wi-Fi that I don not know how to access and there was no information provided in room materials for it. I have never encountered this before and it was very frustrating
- Marti (5/5): Location to Walnut. - The breakfast was good, for I can't have gluten, so every place is difficult to have a large breakfast. The bed was uncomfortable, Otherwise everything else was good.
- Jacob (2/5): The hotel is nice. Location is terrible. - The staff was amazing. The facility was nearly immaculate. The breakfast was quite enjoyable. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The location is terrible. The south end of the hotel is directly next to the truck entrance/exit of the next door truck stop. There is little to no exterior noise mitigation so unless you can sleep through the parade of commercial trucks you're not likely to sleep well.
- Jane (8/5): - Comfortable & clean
- jeanneh2017 (10/5): Clean. Quiet. Dog friendly. Nice area to walk dog - Clean, quiet. Great customer service. Decent breakfast. Convenient off the highway .................................................
- jayhL1825GD (8/5): Best on this stretch of road, hands down! - If you need a hotel on this stretch of road, this is the one to go to! We stopped at several traveling west to east, late in the evening. Slim pickings! We were very thankful to find this clean, basic, good service hotel! Thank you!
- Anna (10/5): - We checked in around 7pm and were immediately greeted and had a speedy check in. Walls were kind of thin, but the beds were comfy. Right off the highway so easy for those travelling I-80.
- Joe (6/5): - No additional info
- Paul5545 (8/5): Clean and Kudo's to Ann - Solo motorcycle ride in late September from OC California to Auburn, CA to visit friends. Then east on I-80 and on day 4, after riding all day, stopped in Avaco, Iowa to gas up. I saw the Cobblestone Inn & Suites and decided to call it a day. The outside of the hotel looked pretty nice, although motorcycles should use caution when entering the parking lot. There were two decent size pot holes. Ann checked me in and gave me room 104 on the 1st floor. Ann was very nice and accommodating. She smiled, was friendly and seemed to enjoy her job. The room was very nice and met my expectations. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 was because I thought the price was a little steep for its location and tourist season was over. The maxim that comes to mind: location, location, location! Ann's friendliness, professionalism, and overall demeanor took the sting out of the price.
- James L (8/5): - I really enjoyed the staff
- donaldgZ5166JS (6/5): Our stay at Cobblestone. - We stayed in Avoca, Ia., and the Cobblestone there was very clean. We were assigned an upstairs room and with no elevator, it was hard for us to climb the stairs and lug bags due to our age. The morning breakfast was just okay. The cost of the rooms, in my opinion, were too high for our 5 day stay.
- Thomas L. (6/5): - just a little better than motel 6
- Laura (7/5): -
- 270rickg (8/5): I slept. I ate. Not the nicest hotel we stayed in and actually the most expensive, even after discounts. - Overall, an ok experience. Hotel halls did have funny smells and lots of dehumidifiers running, makes me question what was up. Mold? Had 4 towels in our bath. Very rough, the kind of cheap towels usually found at hotel pools. 2 of the towels were stained with makeup and ????. Breakfast was OK, but no fresh fruit and juices had a chemical/plastic taste to them. AFTER using an AARP discount, it still came in mid $150s. Would have been better priced $30 or more lower for what we got.
- Jason (7/5): - Great place. We stay every year on our annual vacation. We travel yearly from the midwest on our way home to Denver. It's a long leg of our planned journey but a necessary destination as there are not a lot of other options in western Iowa. We do try to make good "time" on the road. However as a family traveling with children, despite our best efforts, we usually arrive late in the evening. This is the only hotel in all my years of traveling that will harass you about the checkout time. When checkout time comes they are knocking at the door and the front desk is calling. So just a heads up, that's how they roll. I'm not talking about laying around until 1 in the afternoon, but rather just getting a decent night's sleep and having time to shower and pack up. Seems that if you check in at 2AM you'd get a little leniency. Anyways...
On the positive side, if you do happen to arrive road-weary and tired in the middle of the night, you will be greeted by a very nice overnight desk attendant. However, be aware that the morning staff will be cracking the whip and the lobby coffee will be cut off!
- Sandra (8/5): Sufficient for short stay - Staff very friendly & check in was quick
Continental breakfast was nice. The bed was comfortable but only chair in room was broken. The body wash container in shower was empty
- I2567GRkyled (8/5): Work - Great staff was helpful and the housekeeping helped with keeping things very tidy and need breakfast was good variety.
- Mark (10/5): - Just what we needed after a long day of driving. Quick check in, clean room, what else is there?!
- poficat (6/5): Decent stop on the road - Nice spot. A lot of truck traffic all hours because of the Flying J plaza. Staff was nice. Decent area to walk the dog behind the hotel.
- Donna (10/5): - Staff was friendly and we enjoyed the breakfast.
- Kendra (8/5): - Ok for the price. Conveniently located next to a large gas station. Getting into the parking lot was a bit confusing, but there is plenty of space to park. We were lucky that they had some necessities that we forgot! Average hotel.
- Amy (8/5): - Pet friendly, quiet hotel. Showing signs of age. Comfy beds and room.
- Sarah (4/5): - The property smelled like an ashtray and wasn’t very clean. Won’t be going back.
- Ted (7/5): The dehumidifier in the hall should have been our first clue there was a moisture problem! - The room and hotel was clean and neat. The room carpets and towels were damp. We even noticed the sheets felt damp.
- STEPHEN (10/5): Windmill - Nice
- Carole (10/5): - Nice and clean
- Margaret (8/5): -
- N603NXcandys (10/5): A nice surprise! - Friendly, helpful staff! The motel was clean and in a good location off the interstate with eating options nearby. Would recommend this hotel to travelers.
- Marielle (8/5): - Easy stay off highway. Beds were comfortable, breakfast was good, staff was friendly. It’s an older hotel and right next to a truck stop, so it’s busy with trucks but it was quiet overnight. Not fancy but decent and good price. Fine for an overnight!
- Kate (10/5): 10 out of 10 would stay again - The staff was knowledgeable and friendly! The rooms were clean and comfortable! Comparable to what is around (mainly in Atlantic). This place was beyond exceptional! That it’s not in Atlantic
- anniebitsie (10/5): Great stay - Clean comfortable room. Super friendly staff, had a great stay! We would definitely stay here again if we're driving through!
- Julia (8/5): - Nice stop during our road trip. Small town but nice accommodations and pet friendly.
- John (8/5): - Was nice place
- Cassondra (10/5): -
- GrandTour483344 (10/5): Great place - Best absolutely pristine rooms, great service (especially the dark haired girl at night that assisted us with check in), halls quiet and clean. Rooms very comfortable! Bed was amazing! We have had to stay two weekends now and thank heavens for cobblestone!!! Didn’t want to go back to what’s in Atlantic!
- Marie (7/5): -
- Nancy (8/5): - Staff accommodated our bike storage because 2nd floor room had no elevator. Breakfast was good. Asked for quiet side if hotel but was best to stuck driveway to Truck stop. Towels thin & old. Overall a fair hotel if want to be close to DesMoines.
- Lori (7/5): Decent for one night on the road! - Clean and had a breakfast. Room was freezing and humid upon arrival. Could not sleep as it was not comfortable as far as temp, even with adjusting it, took a while to get to sleep and we arrived later in the night.
Also, the shower curtain rod is inappropriately hung, looked rigged up terribly. Otherwise very happy with the cleanliness.
- Susan (8/5): Important for a quiet stay. - Would have liked to know that there was a truck stop in the back of the building.
- vickigY3537WJ (10/5): Heading out west - What a great hotel! Very clean and updated. Really enjoyed our stay. It was nicer than some of the chain hotels that we stayed at.
- Navigate15555249321 (2/5): Probably won't return - Disappointed in the condition of the room: carpet was damp and the comforter was stained. Bathroom soap and shampoo dispensers were empty. Bathroom floor had an oily, filthy film on it. After I wiped it up, it came back and the floor seemed to pool the oily film and it was extremely slippery. This was a first floor room.
We stayed a week earlier (on the 2nd floor) and again the bathroom supplies were not fully stocked, but our room was much cleaner and more comfortable.
- kelly (10/5): Out West 2025 - Great staff, clean and easy
- 682destyh (8/5): Exceeded our overall expectations. - Our stay was during a trip with our grand children. The room was very nice, roomy, well lite and clean. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The only downside was the lack of a pool. Our granddaughter loves to swim but took it in stride.
- Terry (7/5): Good -
- Mike (7/5): Good -
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good enough place to stop off the interstate. - Would have been nice to have coffee cup lids that actually fit the coffee cups in the room.
- Christopher (10/5): Great stay! - Very clean hotel, well-run. Our room was very nice, and the beds were comfortable.
- Dan (9/5): Superb -
- nicolegS6900JF (10/5): Overnight stay, clean and affordable - Very nice! Super clean and affordable. Just needed overnight stay and the front desk lady was very nice. Had free breakfast but had to hit the road before 7am so didn’t get to have it.
- M9725OVkathleenb (8/5): Pretty good except the issues with one bed that had a broken frame. - Check in was great.
Very clean. Quiet.
But, I booked 2 rooms, one for my husband and I and one for my daughter and her family.
One of the beds in my daughter’s room had a broken frame so my daughter put the young children in that one. She told the front desk about that but was not offered another room. 😖
- Kenneth (8/5): - The property was comfortable but could not get the TV to work. Had two remotes and seemed like the remote was not working. No instructions were available. I came into the room late and used my phone instead.
- Mary L (4/5): - The staff was friendly & helpful, the room was clean but needs a little freshening. Not the most comfortable bed.
I know it wasn’t their fault but the town had problems with the tower contaminating the water. We were each given 1 bottle for drinking & tooth brushing. If we had known, we would have forged on.
We did find the town charming. The Exchange made us a very good pizza to-go even tho we came in when they were getting ready to close.
- joycetS5851JG (8/5): good accomodations - The beds were comfortable, however, one of the two beds squeaked loudly every time getting out or in. Also, I am short and the beds these days are so tall, I struggle to get in them. If I am still traveling in 10 years, I will not be able to use these beds.
- Kathy (10/5): Go to hotel when in town. - Staff was helpful and friendly!
- toddcV2280LA (10/5): Worth the stay - We have stayed here 3x during our trips from Ohio to Montana, it is exactly half way between our destinations. It is clean and well run. They also allow pets, which has worked out well for us since we have a dog.
- Noah (10/5): A nice place! - The rooms and property are clean and well maintained. The staff was always friendly and kind! The was good!
- Patrick (8/5): - It was convenient and easy to get to.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Could be a good hotel but ... - My check-in was pleasant enough, and my king suite was spacious, with a separate bedroom.
I was surprised to learn that there was no elevator, in spite of the hotel being two stories. The hotel has extended-stay rooms, so one would imagine that some guests might have considerable luggage to haul up to the second floor.
In my suite, there were no bags in the garbage cans, and in the suite’s full kitchen, there were spotty glasses and downright grimy kitchen utensils.
At the included breakfast, there was no orange juice and, more surprisingly, no coffee — even though it was still more than half an hour to go before the close of breakfast hours. A man working at the hotel made a new carafe of coffee, and I heard a woman, who also worked there, remarking that she would not have made a new carafe of coffee at that time. It was pretty annoying to hear a worker critiquing someone for actually trying do to the right thing for hotel guests.
There was an outdoor seating area adjacent to the breakfast area, but when I went out there, I realized the door automatically locked behind me. (Another guest let me back in after I knocked.)
Aside from the lack of an elevator and some outdated décor, this has the makings of a good hotel. But it seems to be held back by a lack of attention to good service among some staff.
- Patrick (6/5): - Comfy place, great service, easily accessible, breakfast was very bad.
- Edward (6/5): Ok - No comment No comment
- stephaniesN6753KO (8/5): Clean, Friendly, Conveniently Located - Staff needs Cross-Trained - Conveniently located off I'80 and clean rooms. The staff are nice but seems like not everyone is cross trained so what appear to be solvable issues like checking people into a room or switching rooms there is some anxious "phone a friend" and audible exhales hoping the next shift will arrive to help.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Just don’t - Awful. Pro: pretty clean. Cons: had to sleep on a sofabed that was missing a mattress; 1 out of 6 staffers competent, apologetic, tried unsuccessfully to help; other 5 woefully incompetent. Hotels.com keeps refusing to post this review, so suffice it to say: very bad experience on many levels. We would not return.
- Jennifer (8/5): - Nice hotel right off the highway. It was clean, affordable and staff was friendly.
