Guest Reviews
- Saul (8/5): Great guesthouse, super helpful host - My host was really caring and kind. She helped me find activities every day and towards the end of my stay I got sick and her staff brought me up some eggs and toast. She showed a real interest in my experience of Cambodia and organised all my activities in Siem Reap.
They also have a laundry service and they are super speedy. Nothing. It’s fairly minimal I suppose for the price. I think some local homestays for a similar price have slightly more to offer facilities wise. HOWEVER I would choose here again every time.
- ANTOINE (8/5): - Staff, localisation Songs from street
- Lorenzo34000 (8/5): -
- KARINA (10/5): Happy, comfortable, with the best staff I have met on my travels. - When I arrived at Sam So's Guesthouse I was ill, but Mrs Soltheavy made sure I was well taken care of. My room met my expectations, and the staff were warm and friendly. I enjoyed my stay there and would definitely recommend it. N/A
- Jean-luc (9/5): Central and quiet: a great base to explore Angkor temples - This family-run, friendly guesthouse is ideally located in a quiet street. The Royal gardens, Angkor National Museum, Wat Bo temple or (if you really need it) the pub district are all within a 10-min walk. The windows have mosquito nets, so you can leave them open at night, but the air-con and fan also give you all the flexibility you need.
The host, Mrs. Sotheavy, is very kind and helpful; she will quickly make arrangements for transportation, tickets (don't miss the 'Phare' circus!), and services.
I enjoyed the breakfast, which always came with varied fresh fruits; it was a convenient start to a sightseeing day. In my room, the shower was right next to the toilet seat, with the risk of getting wet feet when you go to the toilet (use your beach slippers).
- Neil (10/5): My stay was a pleasure - The property was well maintained and clean. The staff were extremely friendly and the lady who runs it went out of her way to help me with an extension visa. To complain would be petty and a betrayal. There was nothing wrong with my accommodation
- Sean (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verity (8/5): Very good - Close to most main attractions while not being on a noisy street. Staff were happy to help with arranging laundry, tours, tuk tuks. The rooms aren't fancy, although they are spacious and clean - overall, good value for money
- Jim (10/5): A congenial place to stay that provides all the necessary services to enjoy.stay in Siem Reap. - A family run operation with excellent services. Nothing to dislike.
- Haruka (10/5): very nice - Mom booked the tour for me. She was kind and very helpful.Thank you so much for taking care of me before I got on the night bus. nothng
- David (5/5): Friendly staff but beware of the roosters! - Host helped with booking tours and planning our transportation to Phnom Penh. Friendly staff. Oh, those roosters. They start crowing well before dawn and just won't stop. OK for sound sleepers but for light sleepers (like myself) it will be a problem. I'm sure there is nothing Sam So Guesthouse can do about it (not their roosters).
- Brendan (9/5): Superb - Guesthouses like Sam So are the backbone of SE Asian travel. The staff were friendly, the room clean, shower hot, well located, but most important this place was value for money. Would not hesitate to recommend.
- Mark (6/5): Pleasant -
- Olivier (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terry (9/5): Superb -
- John (7/5): Good - Great value, excellent staff. Jot shower, cold AC Bayhroom was very Tired
- Ben (8/5): Very good -
- Wright (8/5): Very good - It's lovely to stay in a Khmer owned guesthouse. It's not fancy but has everything you need and is 10-15 min casual stroll along the river on the quiet side to Old Market/Pub Street and the area it is in is quiet at night (a huge plus in Siem Reap). We slept really well here, it has a calm energy.
Mrs. Sotheavy (on front desk) was extremely helpful and full of good, easy to understand information. Gave us great recommendations including for the small local restaurant around the corner (20m away), great recommendation for massage (also locally owned), organised bus tickets etc. She also organised a very good rental motorbike at short notice, we were pleasantly surprised (we've rented some really bad ones in Cambodia).
It was great to meet Sam So and we wish them all the best for these post COVID times.
As someone who works in tourism I've visited SR many times and stayed in many different places and this one I highly recommend for an ethical budget traveller. The breakfast was OK but would probably advise to go elsewhere. The coffee was sachet and with creama, not milk.
- Bruce (8/5): Very good -

- Jonalyn (10/5): Our first choice! Excellent guesthouse! - As always it's a wonderful experience. The owners, the staff, the guesthouse, the service - - all are excellent. They treat you like a family and they have all the information to make your stay memorable. Very near to all commodities you needed, and best location to stay for visiting the temples in Seam Reap. We highly recommend! Thank you so much Sel and Samso. We'll definitely be back!
- Chiara (9/5): simple but clean with friendly owners - The room and bathroom are very clean, Wi-Fi works well, shower is hot and has good water pressure. The owners of the guesthouse are very friendly and keen to help book tours etc. For all the Italians out there, the husband speaks Italian very well and does tours of Angkor in Italian! The bed is a little bit hard but overall comfortable.
- Lydia (8/5): Very good -
- Wemyss (9/5): Superb - Friendly helpful service from the owner/host. 8mm
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very basic hotel. In a convenient neighbourhood. Owner and daytime staff are nice and very helpful.
Good place if you only want a place to crash and sleep after a long day at the temples.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great owners and great staff room very nice and clean easy access to main town
- Jeff (8/5): - the owner can help to book tours and boats/bus ticket, about 15 mins walk to the night market
- Derrick (8/5): - It’s not your typical 5 stars hotels, but for the price is doable. Closed to pub street, owner is very nice lady, khmer lady local lady. She will help you set up for any tour arrangement.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Correct pour le prix, ideal pour les backpeper, equipe disponible.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What a little gem in Siem Reap. The staff packed me my breakfast so I could eat it dawn at Angkor Wat. I also had a late flight and Sam let me stay until 1400 in my room. I will rebook when I come back with my wife.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Service desk is great. Hey contact you before arrival to arrange the pick up. They help you to arrange visit to Angkor, just make sure you tell which temples you want to visit because price may change. You can get a small breakfast but do not expect big portions. Overall it's ok.
- David (6/5): Economical hotel in Siem Reap - The owners of the hotel are some of the nicest people you will meet. The rooms are large. My room had only a fan for cooling. Very economical. Essentially priced like a hostel. Nice small breakfast in the morning. The wifi was down roughly 20% of the time I was there. Not sure if this was a problem of the hotel or utility. Short walk to the Pub St activity area of town.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice family operation - Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
The guesthouse is generally well maintained and clean. The main downside for us was the bathroom that allows shower water to splash everywhere and the A/C was feeble in the March summer heat/humidity. Breakfast choice is very limited and not much of it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly, helpful, clean. Well worth $18/day.
- Ina (10/5): Nice place - Very friendly owner, she is very helpful and nice. Ask her help and she will try to do everything to help you.
- Alex (6/5): Location is decent - Comfortable stay. Easy to walk to central Siem Reap from.
- Srinivasan (4/5): just rest only - Hotel people were very kind and polite. But there were some mistakes in receiving us inn. Rooms were very normal just only to lowdown after exotic explorations.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Sam So - Staff are great and location good but time for an update for the building. Lack of ceiling fans and poor ventilation makes for musty smelling rooms.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Regular guesthouse - Simple, decent guesthouse, though it's a bit expensive for what it offers when you don't take the breakfast (for example, because you want to see the sunset at Angkor Wat). The rooms were ok, clean enough though certainly not spotless. The bathroom needed a bit of maintentance, the beds were hard but fine. The location is great if you like to get away from the crowded and noisy Pub Street area, and it's close enough to get to the center in 10 minutes walking.
- David James (10/5): My thoughts about the trip to Cambodia - The hotel and our room was clean, modern and very nice. The hotel staff was friendly and courteous to us. I will tell my friends about this hotel and about Hotels.com. David Troxel
- Danielle (8/5): Pleasant stay - My husband and I spent 4 nights here in Dec 14. We had a fan room. The bedding and towels were clean, although there were a few cobwebs in the corners of the room. Bathroom was clean with power shower. The complimentary breakfast was good - you chose one option from different types of egg and bread, served with some banana and watermelon, and unlimited tea and coffee. It is a family run place - everyone was friendly but some spoke English better than others. It is about 20 minute walk from Pub St and the night market area of Siem Reap, but there are plenty of restaurants, shops, travel agents etc very nearby. There were some computers you could use in the reception area. They had bicycles to rent for a very reasonable price - we used them to cycle up to Angkor Wat. We found it quite noisy in the mornings - one morning a neighbour playing loud music, and the other mornings there was some loud chanting/ music being played over a loudspeaker nearby. We enjoyed our stay until the last 5 minutes when we were leaving - the minibus was waiting outside to take us to our next destination but the staff member tried to say that we had not paid for our room (we had paid in advance via Expedia) and tried to overcharge for the bicycles. Bit of a stressful end but, other than that, a pleasant enough stay.
